Keegangs
What are the best dinos to tame early in the game to continue advancing quickly? I've been playing for years, but haven't played online much and always had settings pretty high on single/local play. I'm playing on a Valguero server and am doing well, but want to know what I should tame to continue progressing fast. So far all I have are lvl 90-140 pachys, 160-195 dilos, and a level 174 raptor. What should I be taming for kibble, metal, etc.
flamron
Get a giga. We had one day two of Valguero opening. Makes life tremendously better. After that, get your metal farming dinos and good flyers.
WhySoParanoid
Scorpions because they are pretty easy to get Down and to tame. If you are like me and don’t have enough dedication to wait for an anky to get tamed or kentros for that matter. then scorpions are the easiest Way to optaining regular kibble IMO. Aylana314159
Trike is a great early game berry gatherer and its knockback makes it really powerful in combat. Iguanadons are another early game berry gatherer that is also great for traveling. Very fast, decently tough. Ptera first flyer. Always tame at least one backup. Then get argys. I usually aim for gathering dinos first Beaver for wood (or mammoth if your close to those) Anky metal Doedi stone. Deer thatch Theri or bear for fiber. frenchycaro
Definitely, tam a low level theri is worth just for the polyvalence of harvesting, the safety when you mount it (nearly no aggro on you from wild dinos) and his decent combat ability (even at low level ^^ ) I had one early in my ark's journey and it really helped me a lot ^^
LordHotPockets
We took the time to tame a 145 stego the first day on Valguero and that hearty gal has saved my life so many times now. It's berry collection is also the only way we've been able to tame doeds and beavers because their torpor drain is just stupid when you're low level and narcotics are scarce. I know parasaurs and trikes are good for early berry collection as well but when I'm on the stego I don't need an escort and can murder the raptors and carnos that are messing with me instead of the other way around, which is very nice. Truthfully though the tame I miss the most right now is a good Megatherium. I'm going to try for one this weekend and pray 2x actually happens this time lol
Jemcrystal
Assuming you are not some a mega tribes' pet. Assuming official settings. Opportunity tames when you are low level starting out. Anything stuck in a rock crevice away from aggressive spawn-ins. Jerboa because color event, cute, and can stuff them in a tiny base where they make funny tell you the weather noises which you'll never remember and be like "what's it cooing about now the rain or heat or does it want belly scritches?" Raptors stuck in rocks. Easy and quick. You need to tame things quickly if your are running around in your level 1 onesies. Use as mount but keep your inventory light. Get a base somewhere safe. Then you want a Doedicurus and Iguanodon. Stone is one of the most tedious gathers. A Doed is priceless. Any level will do for starters so can get a low level if you don't have time to tame. Build a surround to keep out attack tho if allosaurus'eseses are near you make those walls very high - greedy farts eat everything . Narc berries and Mej berries 2nd tedious gather. You need lots of narc to start your poison arrow factory and Igu is the way to go. It's fast. Fem eggs make blue kibble which is low tier but high enough to get beginner animals. And it can make seeds so you don't have to waste storage space saving seeds for your future garden. If you are not doing a ground only play style you will want FLYERS. Peleg, pter, argie (if to hard to catch might be able to make deals with neighbors). Dimorphodons are not mounts but I can not emphasis enough how awesome these little guys are in large numbers. You have the ultimate body guards. Just use them only if you have at least three and better if six. Put them on follow. Vicious buggers are like air piranha. They can be a bit tricky to tame tho cause you have to make absolute sure only one is in the area. Pters also make awesome body guards and are better at hunting Ichthyornis (thievin seagulls) for you on follow because speed. But with pters be prepared for them to get stuck on EVERYTHING. Unlike dims which rarely get stuck.
deedoubleu
I usually start with para to make narcs to tame ptera to tame argent.
DomiDarko
Iguanodon, because it has infinite stamina on all fours, collects berries, it can jump and convert berries into seeds, so you have a light-weight food source early on.
yekrucifixion187
I thought about this a bit and to be honest, if you get a Griffin early you can pretty much tame any land or air creature easily and solo after. You can also steal Wyvern eggs a bit better than with a Ptera. I guess if looking for a decent progression I'd go Trike/Iguanodon...Just to get narcoberries easier Ptera...a good one you can get Wyv eggs right away or use it to kite an Argy/Griff into a trap Griffin...tamed with mutton, plenty of narcotics from Trike/Iguanodon. After the Griffin you can just hover over anything to shoot and tame it, or kite it to a trap, steal Wyv eggs, track a Quetz across the map. Game, set, match at that point. DeHammer
I would say a flyer. My choice of flyer would depend on how quickly I wanted to progress. Moderate progression with ease... it would either be an Argy or Griffin, with favor going to the Griffin. Argy's are more widely available though I suspect. Honestly, Griffins are so much easier to capture than I would have thought, and very useful in taming other dinos. I use one of my Griffins to lead Spinos into a pitfall trap in the Ragnarok water canyon. Quicker progression, but with a bit more risk... get a ptera and use that to steal a wyvern's egg. Wyvern's are so useful in so many areas that landing even a lower lvl wyvern can really push you into a higher gear in terms of progress. If you get a lower lvl wyvern, you can use that to easily steal more eggs to get better wyvern's and start honing individual wyverns for specific tasks. For instance, a 'heavy lifter' wyvern for carrying resource dinos around even when they are loaded down with rock/metal. The wyvern itself is awesome at harvesting thatch and wood from trees with their wing flaps ('C'). On Ragnarok I can fly my heavy lifter wyvern into the wyvern forest beside the trench and in a matter of minutes completely 'clear cut' the forest down. NutritousBOB
I would recommend a ptera seeing they let you navigate around the map with ease and are fairly easy to tame. Im not 100% sure but I believe snow owls spawn on valguero and they are tremendously helpful for navigation.
