  1. Abortion was never a constitutional right. It was never mentioned within the constitution nor the bill of rights and the founding fathers would've rolled over in their graves at the idea that their work was used to justify 70 million murders. But at any rate, the federal government explicitly within the constitution has no powers except those which the constitution specifically gives it. All other powers are therefore state or local. The federal government never had the authority to broadly legalize abortion, and if they wanted to then they should've passed it as an Amendment. The Supreme Court merely recognized that this is a state issue and was always supposed to be, and returned it to the states to decide. If you live in California or New York, your state will probably have all abortions legalized under all circumstances no questions asked, possibly taxpayer-funded, within a week. About half the country will still have broad access to abortion. About half will have some or severe restrictions. Even in the red states, they still largely have exceptions for (doesn't let me use word for nonconsensual relations), so don't even bother bringing that up in your argument against me. If you don't like it, move to a state that still allows baby murder. And I'm not really interested in a China-owned company sounding off on American civil matters when they have zero interest in speaking out against the Uighur genocide currently going in China. Speak on all or speak on none.

  2. The crap in this response thread... Holy hell. We look like a bunch of dip-asses to the rest of the world. I know a lot of people are proud to look dumb on the international stage, but many Americans aren't. Jesus Christ. Grow up.

  3. Exactly. This is why people like Elon Musk keep saying "I didn't leave the left... the left left me." You used to be able to disagree with people and still love them, be friends, enjoy their company regardless of opposing views. Now, if a company like Wildcard doesn't virtue signal, they'll lose the support of a VERY SMALL NUMBER of VERY LOUD people (usually those with pink or blue hair). It's sad, really.

  5. Look, idk who is running wildcard now, but I'm so tired of politics. We don't play video games to hear about politics. I play video games to get away from politics, because I'm tired of hearing it, it divides the country and creates hate. Now I don't care if individuals Express their views, but as a dinosaur video game company, leave the politics out if it. You wrote a big article about political views that has nothing to do with your game but no information that people want, like summer bash details. Get your head out of politics and back in the game. We don't wanna hear it. Also, in case you haven't realized, you have fans Ann's players on both sides if the subject, catering to one side is a terrible business move. And look at thr division you have caused with all the arguing amongst ppl in the comments. Shame on you #wildcard

  6. The existence of people is not "expressing views." The existence of LGBTQA+ people is not political. The existence of people who need abortions is not political. LGBTQA+ people, people who have had abortions, so on, so forth, have always existed, even if historians erase them in your sanitized schooling. The people who want to stomp these minorities out, hide them, or are "uncomfortable" with/"offended" by them are the ones who make it political. You are the one making this a problem. Why do people existing upset you? By the way, you might want to read the ARK Explorer Notes. They've supported all this "stuff" you "find offensive" since the beginning.

  8. Today, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade regarding abortion as a constitutional right in the United States. Studio Wildcard believes that bodily autonomy and reproductive rights are fundamental human rights, and this ruling heralds the erosion of American liberties. This impacts the lives of our employees, and we are committed to supporting their right to make their own choice and we are providing them with the healthcare and resources they need to support that personal decision. In spite of the Supreme Court ruling, U.S. voters can still protect reproductive freedom at the State level, and now it is up to all of us what happens next through our voices at the polls. If you are one of the vast majority of people who support a woman's right to choose, it's time to get out and vote. We have also donated to Abortion Funds (https://abortionfunds.org/). 9. No matter the political views or favoring party of a game company's leaders, employees, and customers, and no matter the good intent for anyone involved from who's speaking out, political statement issues, such as a U.S. Supreme Court ruling stance of a company's employees or leadership, in my opinion, shouldn't be stated anywhere in video game communities. Because they can bring about political incite to customers, causing escalated hatred and aggression towards other customers and the game's company's own employees and associates, regardless of their stances. I believe in my opinion the vocalization of this political stance publicly by the studio's employees within Ark's social media (Facebook, Twitter, Steam, and the official forums) is a bad move for the reason's stated above. Edit to add more: I'm on the opinion that video game communities should be a place of respect to ensure everyone can enjoy themselves in them such as these forums and any other form of social media. It doesn't feel right to add political stance issues into them by anyone. Here's a policy quote that I agree with from another official forum site that I'm a part of regarding politics: "These forums are used by individuals of all nations, beliefs and creeds. To ensure everyone can enjoy the forums we ask that you not post any threads or content that discusses political topics as they can cause offence and upset."

  10. I never understood the idea that abortion should be permitted so as to prevent "back alley abortions"... aka the use of metal coat hangers. You don't stop unwanted actions by taking away the negative consequences of those actions. If you are so against controlling yourself sexually to the point where you're willing to endanger your own life just to kill the child within you, then I don't see why anyone should stand in your way. A few years of that and the problem will solve itself naturally. A few years of forcing pregnant women to carry to term might just be all that's needed to change how people view intercourse. It might even make it more meaningful than the mindless transaction it has become.

  11. Except that it's not just women's healthcare being discussed here and there's a significant portion of the population that also believes there's the healthcare of the human life yet to be born that should be taken into consideration as well. Wildcard effectively alienated that portion with their needless drivel about a subject that unequivocally does not fall within the purview of the products or services they provide as a company. Thus, they stand to lose a not entirely insignificant amount of sales revenue on ARK 2 plus any additional DLCs as well as any other titles they intend on releasing in the future. Moreover, they likely have alienated a number of their own employees who for their own personal reasons, religious or otherwise, may not share the same view. All because Doug and the rest of the C-level execs at Wildcard couldn't resist running their collective mouths in a public space about a highly polarizing political subject. From a corporate perspective, the only objective should be to provide a good product/service while following all established laws and regulations for whatever space that corporation does business in. All else is, or rather should be, supremely irrelevant. Instead of letting yourself get pandered to by a company that's obviously virtue signalling (and failing miserably at it, I might add), I recommend you evaluate whether or not a company's products or services are any good from a usability, quality, and practicality perspective exclusively. Exercise your political beliefs in the voting booth, where it'll actually make a real difference.

  12. They don't seem to care about the healthcare of the female inside of them they're killing. Why is it that they are all about choice except for making the right choice to prevent pregnancy in the first place? Why is the answer always have to be "clean up my mess"? You were irresponsible (99.9% of abortions are not what 99.99% of arguments in favor of abortion are about). Put the pain where it belongs.... not on the life you created inside you. And if our society is considered WHITE MALE PATRIARCHY for having that stance, then so be it... because WHITE MALE PATRIARCHY then appears to on the side of right.

  13. One of my issues with the left is the way they brand themselves. For example, in the case of abortion, they classify it as "women's health", so that way, if someone tries to argue the point, they can just reply with: All of a sudden, if you're not fully left-wing, you become the most evil person on the face of the earth. And to think, I thought their whole schtick was tolerance and acceptance. But clearly that only applies if you agree with them.

  14. It's not about women's healthcare, it's about children's health and life. And this really isn't the place for companies or people to argue about it. I want everyone to enjoy playing my favorite game of all time. WC shouldn't be chiming in on this at all driving the community apart. I said before I'd have the same issue with them if they came out in support of overturning Roe. This community isn't about politics, it's about bloody dinosaurs.

  16. The problem with Game Studios being so political is it makes players like me, who firmly disagree with their stances, not want to buy their games anymore knowing that my money is going to help fund causes I abhor. With politics, especially today, it's an "us or them" mentality. When Wildcard makes posts like this, to people like me, Wildcard is positioning themselves as my opponent. How can I financially support my opponent? The abortion debate is a long and tired one. Nobody will be convinced to change their mind, especially by a trivial thing such as a game developer. Wildcard is abusing their lines of communications to their customers/community. Now, most of us see Ark 2 as dead on arrival already anyway... this just helps seal the deal. I can't hand money over to a political rival. Good going.

  17. All the more reason we should be cheering any and all reductions in the scope of what the Federal government is involved with. They even suck at implementing a fair and reasonable tax system, yet people demand that this same organization of epic suckage also be involved in issues of marriage, the bedroom, reproduction, etc..? It's like putting toddlers in charge of building a bridge and expecting the results to be satisfactory. This is coming from someone who routinely gets shafted by the IRS annually. You wouldn't want my tax bills, trust me.

  18. Over 50% of Americans, around 54%, don't believe abortion should be legal and even more disagree with RvW. Even CNN found that a majority of people are happy about overturning. Companies have been warned to keep their opinions to themselves about the case since every time they have spoken out in support they've seen a nose-dive. I would take just as much issue if WC were to come out tomorrow and say they endorse Trump, or DeSantis or espouse any conservative view because it's not their place. A company cannot hold a political view. Individuals in a company can, but they are not a monolith. Most dissenters are going to be quiet in fear of losing their jobs or being ostracized by their coworkers and discriminated against by their employers. In the same way, women aren't a monolith too. Not even close to all women support abortion, especially all the way up to 9 months like some people seem to want when you look at the people running the party. This is not, and has never been about taking away choices. It's about protecting lives, which no matter what your opinion on the matter is, they are lives. Scientists have agreed on life at conception for years. We call single-celled organisms on mars life, but brand new DNA that determines everything from height to hair color to janky teeth, oh no, that can't be a life because that takes away my ability to end it. I understand peoples desire to protect women and their choices, but there are more than 1 choice to make, and 1 persons right to choose cannot be at the expense of another's life.

  22. Re: Abortion ruling -- I'm not from the US, but thank you for taking a strong, humanist stance in this matter. I'm grateful and feel a lot of respect for you speaking up. I'll be linking this article to friends as well. While my own country is currently taking steps to further de-mystify and decriminalize reproductive issues, it's terrifying to see what's happening over there. So again, thank you. I can assure you that this sentiment is shared by a lot of people from my circle who are not active commenters. Re: Wiki -- I'd like to help, am just not tech savvy. Can one just become an editor and improve articles here and there casually, e.g. adding spawn links when missing? Great to see so much active effort going into the wiki. I'd like to fully switch to the official wiki but so far I've had to resort to the fandom one relaitvely often.

  26. Thanks for chipping in on the reproductive rights dialog, Wildcard. It means a lot and the whiners make it really clear why it's important. To those whiners: Ark is made by people. People care about things. At a rate even higher than the already large majority of the US electorate that wants Federal protection of reproductive rights, people who make games and tech things in general want women's bodily autonomy respected. If that makes you uncomfortable and you don't want to support the game, that's fine and that's your choice — just as it's theirs to speak out. But while you're at it, be sure you aren't using a phone or the Internet, as Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and a great many others stand equally opposed to this appalling regression in women's rights (and erosion of due process that presages who knows how much more). You're quickly going to find a very scarce range of products to choose from as it turns out there aren't many people who think this is a good thing. And that's why it's important that Wildcard and everyone else do their parts to speak up. Silence is assent or at least a "no contest," and anyone with a voice needs to speak up before that's taken away, too.

  27. The Wiki: OMG this is soooo much better than that last eye sore! And horary for dark mode! Srsly, can't tell you how many times my eyeballs got burnt out of their sockets looking at the ever blaring bright white of the other one. UGH. Roe v Wade: I'm super saddened by some of these comments I'm reading about the roe v wade thing. I think some of these people need to find a new game and new community. Ark and WC have always been pretty open about their politics and what they support, especially with the united states being such a dumpster fire right now. As a Canadian, I'm sorry you guys are going 50 years back into the past, and I'm watching closely to see what rights of yours they will be taking away next because the supreme court made it very clear, they want to take away a lot more. Honestly, it shouldn't be a law in the first place. This is plan old personal health care.

  28. I honestly don't care how strong you feel about anything or that level of hysteria, nothing has really fundamentally changed other than that an overarching government has had their wings clipped in favor of state rights as it always should have been. You are a gaming company and I can guarantee you a large chunk of your customer base is on the other side politically to you, I find it interesting how willing you are to alienate them by overestimating your influence on any of your customers. I don't think more than a tiny fraction if that cares to know anything about your political leanings or affiliations. I don't care what the politics of my grocery store is or my utilities provider, my barber or any service provider including a company that makes a game I enjoy. I'm sure if a company started flaunting conservative views the "they can do what they want with their bla bla bla" guys would turn around faster than the speed of light.

  29. It's really such a shame. WC has been building their brand and reputation with the creativity and skills of everyone on the team working at the company for the past 7 years. As well as inspiring others in the community to contribute. I have been one of them. A diehard supporter since the beginning. In all those 7 years, Ark / WC has been a good place. A neutral place and there was harmony, never having to get politics involved. Not once. With the beginning of June this year, it's becoming more and more clear that there is either new management at WC, or the old bosses just don't care about community anymore since they've milked profits from Ark 1 as much as possible. So now they've decided to throw their reputation in the trash by becoming political and voicing opinions when they shouldn't have one. Individually, that's fine. People are allowed to have opinions. But publicly, as a company, no. If someone new is in charge and making their voice the companies, then I hope they get removed, before it's too late. I know I've lost a ton of respect for WC recently which is a real shame considering I believed a job there was a true dream job, just a short time ago. All this political talk, and not even a single bit of news regarding the summer bash event. It's really a shame what things are coming to.

  32. Your personal agreements and disagreements on the matter are irrelevant, what's required here is statistical data. Shooting out an incredibly disproportionate number like that comes off as ludicrous unless you have a credible and non biased source to back it. If you really want to quibble about dealing with consequences then like it or not abortion is in fact a form of dealing with a consequence, it's simply not a way of dealing with it that matches to your particular point of view. As an aside I don't think a woman that has a run in with ol' Cosby and his special sleepy time puddin pops is going to consider the aftermath of said run in as a miracle. -- Facepalming every post I make that runs counter to your belief system doesn't invalidate what I've said. Just so you know.
