First drake egg run. What's the best mount for doing it?

Put on god mode and practiced for hours in singleplayer before I attempt on official PvE server. Tried different ways and got lost several times. I don't get how you people manage to get down there, steal a drake egg or even eggs and get back up with the eggs.

I watched a video of a guy gliding down with the glide suit, gliding in a nest, gliding out the trench asap and then climbing all the way up with climbing picks on that metal structure that goes all the way down. Might try that.

I'm a solo player btw.

Or do you recommend doing your first egg run with a mount (other than a rock drake of course)? Should I even attempt solo with a mount? What should I do it with? Crab? Too many creatures run under the crab which gets the crab in fall animation, I fear for my crab. Megalo? Every predator on the way down aggros on it and purlovias can dismount you. Basilisk? Don't have. Ravager? Feels really unsafe. Ravs with zip lines? Can you zip all the way down? Because I heard you can't build structures below a certain level on official. Spino? Mine has 11k  health and 400% melee.

Can you even walk down there with a spino and get it back up? Because every way I tried there was a ledge where I had to drop down. No way a spino could get back up.

I watched the above vid but did something a little different and in my opinion easier. I went to the same spot on the bottom to get the eggs but my way down was much different.  I didnt like the idea of dropping dinos down and climbing back up so i did some exploring and found a foot path down from the blue biome all the way down to the nest site in HOD's vid.  I used a high level Karkinos, the jump lets you get to all the nests without dismounting witch i find safer than climbing with drakes everywhere.

there is a path but the drop method saves you some hazmat to do the long walk around. plus one wrong turn and you are in reaper queen area which is usually a bad day. be careful with crab, one time getting pinned which can happen fast and the pit swarm will engulf a crab. basically dont stick and fight in the pit with the crab, grab and gtfo

One thing if you plan on doing this solo: Start by kiting the drakes to you before grabbing an egg.

Things can go South real quick if you get attacked by a drake while climbing back up after getting the egg.

Just go in the red biome, follow the metal spine down. At some point there will only be one way to follow. Just follow this down until you reach the first trench.

From there:

1) Kite and kill drakes

2) Place yourself directly above a hole where you can see a nest, you probably won't see an egg until you drop in, the nest might be empty

3) go down to the nest, grab the egg and get back up real quick.

4) Repeat

YOu might want to drop a sleeping bag next to your tame with an extra hazmat suit Inside in case you die. Don't forget the radiation will hit you as soon as you spawn, you will need to equip 2nd suit in a few seconds. (YOu might want a good health stat to not die before equiping the suit)

So it seems nobody answered his question, so I'll ask it for him again (since I'd like to know as well). Can you walk a Spino down there and get him back up? Or do you have to leave the Spino behind?

You take a spino or mega down to the trench but not down the trench itself.

Leave the tame up and climb down with picks.

I got 5 spinos stuck in a pit behind the double waterfall (flat, empty space between two drake nest wall spawns) worked out pretty nice as they stayed alive on neutral for a few days. I'm going to eventually bring 10 imprinted spinos down (hopefully with good saddles) and just leave them there as swarm defense and invite allies to do the same. 20 spinos seems like it's enough, lol.

There is a section with nests (only a couple though) accessible by spino/megalo you can walk to without climbing one way into the the scar. Can park your spino right under the nest climb up to the nest, nick the egg, jump back to the spino/megalo and fight for you life and then walk back out. How we got our first 3 eggs.

Oh yes you are right. I personally keep trying those only to come up empty but I guess there should be some in there.

TO OP: To get there you have to go left when you see the first trench and go right at the next embranchment.

Havent had much luck with those since  the first trip down, but for nicking your first egg its a God send if they are in the nest. Its deffinatly worth scouting in single player. Went down with a tribe mate both on female spinos with a male on follow for the mate boost. Got out with 3 eggs but the male fell foul of pathing issues and decided to go swimming in the elemental river.

Even if you only get low levels ( our first batch was 15, 15, 20) you then use those drakes as glorified climbing picks with a spino escort to get more.

Iv'e gotten about 10 eggs so far from those nests with the crab with no issues, you definitely want to stay on path and not get lost but the crab is a great mount for the task as all the spawns save the drakes and seekers will ignore you and while they dont do amazing damage they are tanky enough to kill many drakes.  I can do the whole run in 30-45 min on one rad suit  but i have a repair station at the halfway point if needed.

Pretty sure i already said there is a path boss. There is even a path out of the pit itself for a spino

I got my first one with a 10k hp 530% meele crab. You also need a lot of luck , so you may not stuck or fell underground and get stuck .

I won't go down with my crab. Creatures pin you down and run under your crab so it gets in fall animation and can do nothing. Not saying it can not work but it's way too risky. Probably gonna take my spino down.

best mount to take is a raptor to get your first rock drake. wait till you see someone trying to tame a basilisk then run in and grab one of the trash eggs they drop trying to feed it, then... victory!

I have lost every crab i've taken into the trench. i usually use a souped up spino and arrange her so that i can shoot a grapple hook in her eye and reel myself back to her quickly.
