It also depends on what kind of gamer he is. How much challenge/difficulty does he like in games? For example, a lot of people who have played PvP in other games don't really get it when you tell them that PvP here is destructive. You can say the words, but unless you seriously hammer the point repeatedly they still don't get it until someone wrecks their stuff. Even if he's seen you lose stuff in PvP and/or heard you talk about it that's not the same as him losing his own stuff after working on it for hours. Is your goal to see if he wants to play ARK on your level, doing the things that you enjoy most, or is it to have a couples experience where you figure out what parts of ARK you both like while avoiding the parts that even one of you dislikes? My general advice would be to start on The Island, at "the beginning" of the game, so that he doesn't get spoiled by a map like Ragnarok that is much richer with higher wild levels, and so he doesn't get overwhelmed with the difficulty of Scorched Earth or Aberration. If he has any interest in the ARK story/lore this also gives him the chance to start at the beginning of the story. Then decide whether you want to do PvP or PvE based on what you think he'll enjoy to get started. No matter what kind of server you two play on (PvP, PvE, Primitive+, Official, Unofficial) you should start a brand new character with him, you to jump into a new server and truly play together to get him started. I've started multiple people in the game, and in my experience people just learn the game more effectively when they start truly from the beginning. When a player joins an existing tribe/base and there is a bunch of stuff already built/tamed/etc they take some things for granted, they don't truly experience the early survival phase of the game, they don't get that extra thrill that comes from discovering things from the beginning and, worst of all they sometimes get overwhelmed and don't want to play because there's to much to deal with at once.

Hogwash. I've played solo for years and get by just fine. Other than some of the bosses, there is nothing I need other people for.

Greetings Survivors! Zen Rowe here; for anyone that doesn’t know, I am the Mod Community Manager here at Studio Wildcard. We’re starting a new segment where we will look at the mod authors and the projects that can add so much extra life to a game. Today we’re going to be talking to Garuga123! Why don't you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about the project you are sponsored for. That's amazing, We don't have too many creators in the community that create new creature assets. If you don't mind me asking, could you tell us a bit about your background? What do you do outside of modding? Wow, so your background ties pretty heavily into what you do for your mods. It's always interesting to see how our history can impact our creations. Monster Hunter is a great game to take inspiration from as well. For anyone that wants to find you, do you have any social media channels that you are active in? That is fantastic, being able to see someone's workflow in action is an incredibly useful resource for new mod authors that might not be familiar with the particular medium they are trying to tackle. On top of that, attempting to stream while you work is incredibly difficult, there is so much trying to draw your attention. That's impressive. What originally brought you to start modding for the first time? Was it for ARK or for another game? Yeah, it's unfortunate, I know that a lot of people like seeing their favorite characters from TV and other games popping up in the world, but unfortunately that is an ever-present risk to such creations. Mods that use that content will probably get taken down at some point and copyright law is a messy thing that I don't recommend getting pulled into. I am glad that the experience did not discourage you from continuing! Let's switch gears for a moment because I'd like to talk about your creations. In particular, I'd like to look at my favorite one, the Brachiosaurus. (Credit to @UpFromTheDepths for this video) This thing is fantastic. When you showed me some videos of the working creature in development, I was awestruck. The first time I saw it rear up I was thinking "What is it going to do? Is it afraid? Is it going to fall over? Will it do a trick?", and then those legs came crashing down and it was a great moment of suspense in the design of the creature. The taming mechanic was a fantastic touch as well. Can you give me a bit of a high-level rundown on your process for creating a creature like this? Would you say you managed to capture your original vision for what these creatures would be? Did you have to make any compromises along the way? I think that's a great way to approach adding new creatures. And yours blend so well with the core game that if I didn't know better I would have a hard time identifying that they weren't. Since I've got you here... do you have any super-secret content that you are working on that you would be willing to reveal for us? That does sound interesting! Aside from balance, are there any other significant challenges you expect to face when creating it? I look forward to seeing what you manage to create with this idea! To wrap up, is there any advice you would like to give to any new mod authors that would like to make new creatures? Sound advice for anyone interested in making mods for ARK! Thank you for taking the time to talk to us today, Garuga. Until next time, Happy Modding! What's Your Experience With the Dungeons? I have been playing Ark mobile for quite some time and one of the reasons I haven't quitted or stopped is because of the challenge of the dungeons and the fact that they have such cool variants of animals otherwise known as eerie creatures. You can tame those by the way. And then there's the boss fight. Always pretty exiting! But I still to current state haven't gotten to tame the Noctis . The first time i went into the dungeons was the one in the snowy mountain and i was level 96 and had full ascendant armor along with weapons and ammo, had a bunch of soups, healing brews, extra sets of armor (of course), energy brews, and yeah. Basically all of the stuff i thought i might need. I knew nothing about the dungeons at the time other than it was like a maze with fight rooms once in a while and variants of normal creatures that where rainbow themed (eerie creatures). I didn't even know there was a boss at the end XD. So i went right in, found my map had changed, and took a few steps into the first corridor immediatley to get spiked by a trap....oof. Didn't die, but my armor took a bit of damage. So basically i got used to looking for pressure plates in the floor for traps. I almost got squashed by wall that closed and opened several times. Learned that there where chests here and there with random loot and each gave me about +1 minute in my time. And that's when i noticed that there was a time limit and kinda freaked out since i was going with such cautiousness that i moved pretty slow. So i sped up a bit. Met e few colorful (earie) creatures. All of them where passive (pteras, procoptodons, snails, dung beetles) Whenever i went into the first fight room i got startled by the song, all the exit ways where blocked, and i got swarmed by a bunch of gigantic killer dodos.....terryfieng. So yeah, i easily defeated them with my amazing ascendant pump shotgun . Then i think i had to face daedons, yep....they seriously dealed damage to my armor. THEY WHERE SO FAST!!! I think i also faced ants, dilos, and a few more that i can't remember. Oh wait....I also faced titanoboas. I had to take so much stimulants that i literally emptied my canteens after that fight. I kept looting chests that usually gave terrible loot, i didn't find any tek stuff And then i stumbled into a room where u could access the boss. So my next thought.....wait there's a BROODMOTHER IN MOBILE??!? I had heard that mobile didn't have boss fights like on other platforms so i was really surprised. So when i accessed it i found out that there was no broodmother, instead there was a huge white monkey with anger problems that really liked chugging huge boulders at innoccent survivors that might or might not have shot a few metal arrows in their face. I soon regretted having left my rocket launcher back at my base. Oh, and i was also on my second set of armor and had used more than 100 medic brews by the time. I ended up killing the monkey by shotgunning him on the buttocks and then got pummeled by ten thousand mesopithecus and mor gigantopithecus. Made easy work of them with my shotgun. I was disappointed when i saw into the huge dead monkey's inventory and found nothing in there. I expected to see something cool or rare and maybe even tek, but nothing. I hadn't gotten good loot or no tek stuff. So i just exited the dungeon with nothing good and a broken set of armor and almost no amo. So then i decided to search this up on youtube to see if everyone got the same rotten luck as i did. And EVERY SINGLE PERSON CAME OUT WITH AT LEAST ONE TEK BLUEPRINT. I was extremely pissed off and decided it was just pure luck. Plus, those dudes actually checked every chest. I didn't.....lol. So yeah, i could've played it better by actually searching every chest and if i had noticed a door that was right besides me in the beginning room. I remeber finding a key and not knowing what it was for. Now i know that it was for that room at the beginning, and that's where people found tek stuff.....i slapped myself for the rest of the day. Also, something that i didn't know was that you could tame the eerie creatures by taking their implants and reviving them and tame them. Another reason to slap myself, especially since they looked so cool and met a level 300 ptera. Basically i have entered and defeated the huge monkey quite a few times now, especially since now i got the hang of it. Also another goal i have is to tame the noctis, but i never get it . I always get the huge monkey dude. I actually check every chest (well, at least the vast majority of them) and go to every single room possible. I tamed a few eeries but stopped when i ran out of amber and didn't feel like spending money on more. Ive also found a complete set of tek armor and a tek riffle. So what is ur experience with the dungeons? Have fun playing Ark!

Just a short list of things that I'd like to see as a PVE player and admin on an unofficial server cluster. This will be edited to include more as I think of them. Fix building snap points so they don't cycle through and change on their own when placing something. Adjust creature and player hit boxes so things don't get stuck on each other or get knocked around so easily. Make all structure pieces (campfires, sleeping bags, spiked walls, pipes, cables, dino leashes, etc) that currently don't automatically demolish once their timer runs out eventually auto decay. Patch the bug where after you log out while laying down in a bed or tek pod, you either are stuck in the bed and can't move, or can move around, but can't interact with anything without relogging. Make dino leashes able to be demolished by people outside of the tribe that owns them when the decay timer runs out. Make pipes and cables able to be broken with kill commands and the creative mode gun. Fix bolas on Extinction, they don't work a lot of the time. Link to video: https://clips.twitch.tv/PleasantEnticingDelicataTTours Make all containers and structure pieces with inventory slots able to be locked. Add a server option that makes it so that only tribe members or allies can turn things like torches, generators, replicators, fabricators, turrets, etc, on or off. Fix the bug allowing anybody to access dedicated storage, even if they're locked. Make tek lights and lamps not change brightness settings after server restarts. Add an option to toggle snap points on and off. Make more things snapable, I.E. storage boxes, paint canvases, bookshelves, feeding troughs, compost bins, beer barrels, etc. Fix the glitch that causes wild beehives to spawn on top of each other, often resulting in dozens in one spot. Make it so you don't get turned a different direction when using the teleportation mode with the creative mode gun. Make it so that if an Icthyornis steals and eats narco berries or narcotics, its torpor increases. Add functionality to the Tek Cloner that allows players to change their character's appearance by making an "imperfect clone" of themselves. Add functionality to the Tek Shield that "reverses" it's use, and prevents enemies caught within from leaving. Could be used as a high tech taming pen, a trap to capture and ensnare creatures and players, or even as a Tek prison. Give admins commands to toggle weather effects like fog and rain on and off on all maps. Give admins a "Fix" command which repairs all damaged or broken gear in their inventory. Add a command that destroys all connected pieces of a single structure, similar to the GiveAllStructure command. Add a defibrillator to the game, that is a single use item that can resurrect any creature from the dead, as long as it's body is still intact and hasn't decayed or been eaten/harvested. Did your Rex die falling off a cliff? Didn't get that newborn baby fed in time? Yell "CLEAR", zap 'em, bring them back, and try again. Could also be used on dead players, as long as their body is still intact, which could be useful for PVP. Of course, any creature or player brought back in such a way should respawn with low health, and not be fully healed. Make the key/button that gathers materials, opens doors, mounts or dismounts creatures, etc, into a different key/button than the one that controls the Tek helmet. New achievements for Aberration, Extinction, and the upcoming Genesis dlc.

PVE-Official-Valguero Well after being griefed multiple times by the same tibe, I closed off my gateway that allowed them to pass through, now they either have to walk around my base, or go around a large rock formation on the opposite side to get to the flat area where the unicorn spawns and sheep. Don't think i should be nice and leave my gateway open for them to pass through if they are going to do things like that to me. Today was probably a pretty boring day to most people, I spent most of it crafting and placing parts of my base up. I expanded the courtyard on the back side, and people can still get around but gave me more room to place dino's outside, just need to get the dino leash engram off extinction now and craft a few of them to place around the inner courtyard. It also gives me more room to build utility buildings for the main base that will be protected behind our wall. in the background you can see my house thats currently surrounded with the behemoth gates my tribemate put down, this is a temporary solution for a ongoing problem. The wall there in front of the house will be coming down that separates the two courtyards after i finish building the new exit gate there on the left. as you can see there are still pieces that need to be placed but its coming along alright so far. Now if I could just get that one pillar removed thats blocking me on the other side so I can finish up the wall over there. once the two parts are done that should give us ample room for our dinos and babies we are bringing over to valguero. The little corner towers are going to be for plant species X to give some additional protection to the base, and were discussing putting some along the walls as well. Also made two clones of my heavy hitter rock golem to bring over to valguero for some additional protection inside the wall. So this side is pretty much what i got done today, tomorrow, more crafting to finish off the corner towers and the gate entrance, then perhaps heading off to a extinction server to learn a couple engrams.

on console all you need to provide is he exact gps coordinates and support can work with that
  11. 1 point
I don't believe there is an option doing that. Also keep in mind, your animals will only be uploaded for 24h. After that they will get deleted out of the "cloud"

Thank you for the reply. Currently, any device in the house that is hardwired can connect to the network. As an example, I have the hardwired computer doing nothing but hosting the server, and another hardwired computer right next to it that can see the server and connect with no issues at all. Additionally, when the server was connected to the 2.4ghz network, any device on the 2.4ghz network was able to connect without issue, but not from the 5ghz network. Currently, no differences in subnet addresses. All start with 192.168.1. If it helps, the router is a Nighthawk(R) X4S R7800. Firmware is up to date as well. The router does indeed support NAT-Loopback, with no ability to disable it as far as I can tell. And currently no static IP addresses, however there are also currently no IP address conflicts that I can find either. Each device on the network is assigned a unique IP Address. HOWEVER!!!! Reading over your reply did give me an idea, which DID help me resolve the issue. Although it's definitely one I did not think of. So I ended up checking the Remote Management section of my router, and somehow my computer got assigned a really random port that I ended up having to add to the already fairly long list of ports to forward, which ended up showing the server on my computer and appears to have resolved the issue. Thanks so much for your input!

Native Dinos only Servers Managarmr on Aberration? As a long-time player of this map on unofficial and official, they alter the way the map plays completely. - They remove the aspect of difficulty that makes that map appealing. - They allow players to circumvent the gameplay of the map by skipping a lot of it. Working your way up to a rock drake and waiting for it to mature is no longer necessary. - They are a DLC creature, giving players with that DLC a pay-to-win advantage. - The map was supposed to be no flyers. That's what makes it unique and interesting. Manas diminish that greatly. Why does new content have to make older content less enjoyable? People like me still play this map, it's just much harder to enjoy with these tames present. My suggestion is this: Since some people like using manas on AB, and some don't want them there, why not make some official servers (Especially pvp servers) native dinos only and designate them as such? This could apply to all maps, not just Aberration. That's the best way I can think of to accommodate as many players as possible. Thanks for reading.

I'm a solo pvp player I would not like solo\duo servers myself here's my 2 cents ..I enjoy attacking the larger tribes .I love to snipe\kill their tame's the thrill of being hunted would be gone on a solo server or duo server ..I can see those servers being pve at the end of the day..
  20. 1 point
that's a waste of resources, when you can play single player, non dedicated, or even make your own server. You can play solo or duo on any server that currently exists right now.
  21. 1 point
Single player and non-dedicated exist. Ark is a tribe based game, that's what official servers are intended. Solo or duo official servers wouldn't be PvP but PvOffline.

If you're on PC go into settings and click the "Import exported" tab then the "Add Export Folder" button, select the folder where ark exports dinos to, should be SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\DinoExports then there'll be another folder with your steam id which you need to select, when you want to add a dino check it's ancestor line first if it's bred then exit and hold E > Options > Export Dino, in Smart Breeding click the "Last Export" button and it'll import all the dinos stats, parents & colours If you play on console then it's not possible unless you add them manually

But if we're still going to lose connection to Ark everytime Steam loses connectivity, which has been a lot recently, it's not going to be any fun.
  24. 1 point
Well we will know because if Steam loses connectivity and ARK doesn't instantly close then we know that patch fixed the issue. However, I tested my internet connection, and when I pulled the plug I got the lost connection message on Ark and then when I clicked ok Ark closed. Although that's not really a problem compared to the instant closure when Steam loses connectivity.

I have a few Questions. If I set my Nitrado servers to “current event” will it work on Unofficial servers? As well, my servers are on Ragnarok and Valguero, will this event work on these maps? One last question, should I extend the night cycle to a longer period during this event? Thanks

  27. 1 point
Yes, and while some things in ark I find frustrating, most problems are caused by players. For instance, there have been cases where people have gone to transfer to another server, then during that transfer got disconnected, then they log back onto the previous server, no character and instantly go "my character got deleted" when their character was sitting on the server they were transferring to, or cases where the same thing has happened, and their character was sitting in the download character list, but rather then downloading their character they click that 'create new character' button and then say their character was deleted. Its not always the companies fault, an nothing is infallible when it comes to people, after all the computer is only as smart as the person sitting behind the keyboard. If official frustrates you so much, and you have the skills to do it, perhaps you should start playing unofficial and designing a mod that does the backups how you see they should be done, Once you get it fleshed out and functioning properly, submit it to the wildcard sponsored mods to get their attention drawn to it, and who knows, they may just very well do what you want them to, and use your very mod to do it. Fact of matter is, and even the moderators have said so, complaining about game core mechanics on the forum is just fruitless, there's like a 1% chance (if even that) that a Wildcard coder will even come on and read what you've written, and think 'hrm maybe that will work'. I can say in all the time I've played ark - I've lost a grand total of 5 characters sense 2015. 1 character was due to a patch snafu that effected a lot of people, and wildcard worked hard to get people restored and the game back to its normal state. The other 4 characters - due to my own mistake. So here we are in a grand total of 4 years, I've lost 1 character because of wildcard and they restored said character. Honestly, I have to say that's a pretty good track record.

I see the no timer change with breeding dinos, can sit there and stare at them and it just sits at 10-20-40% done, I walk away a little come back and look again and it jumps up. Haven't seen this happen with eggs yet though, the worst thing I have going on with them is they count to zero and then don't hatch, 1 minute... 5 minutes... nope didn't hatch. I pick the egg up no matter how long I wait, I toss it back down and it has anywhere from 30 seconds to 1m 50 s waiting on them, I figure this is something with the timer glitching and lag spikes hitting. All the servers seem to be experiencing a higher then normal lag factor lately.

If you haven't played Ark PVE on a private server, alone or with friends, you've missed the best Ark has to offer. I have several characters going on private dedicated servers now, and I also have several going on local non-dedicated private secured sessions. One of the many great things I've discovered about private servers, along with being able to tweak settings, etc, is that you can transfer items & Dinos from a private hosted (dedicated) server into a local non-dedicated game for 'archival' purposes. At any point, I can 'resurrect' any of my dinos or breeding lines that have been 'archived' and bring them forward into a new map.

The DodoRex is basically the Mother-of-all-Dodos, so makes sure you fill your base with Dodos and she'll be sure to leave the base alone.... as long as the Dodos are being well fed and looked after!

In 2017 and most of 2018, I played single player and near default settings. Then I started burning out on the game, as it was just too grindy for me; with work and commute, and other IRL stuff. Some people suggested I try UNofficial servers, with modified settings. Ever since then, I'm back to enjoying the game. I have already "earned my stripes" playing the hard way, now I can just play and have fun.

Has no one thought of the fact with taxidermy we can get Dodorex and all the other event creatures for fear evolved and keep them as a trophy in our bases? Also, i think we might be getting an underwater gun.
  36. 1 point
As long as it doesn't prevent others from playing, I think this should be safe to assume nobody would care. However, rather than managing alt tribes, etc. perhaps just basing yourself on a different map keeping the bare minimum you need on Extinction would be preferable. I mean, gates might help, but I know for a fact some of these trolls are very creative and would go as far as building a mobile ramping network just to drop dinos above your orp walls.
  37. 1 point
if your going the unoffical route you could always get your own server and only have it active when you guys want to play, that gives you the 'were really alone here' feeling while exploring everything for the story, and keep your dinos alive while your gone for a week or longer if you shut down the server. problem with many unofficial servers is they are 'here today, gone tomorrow', you may find one you like, start building, get comfortable with where you are and then... poof... server is gone, never to be seen again.
  38. 1 point
Depends. What do you play? Official? Single player? Unofficial? Get him to start with you on your chosen server type. Start new with him, teach him the ropes. Best to make him be his own tribe (for eg. Dont give him bloodlines yet if you are on official/unofficial) it will breed a better player if he struggles like we all did in the start! More info and ill be able to help more. Do not I repeat, do not start on splitscreen.. the tether (even on 2 boxes hosted together) will turn him off / reduce freedom of ARK

I tend to only check out game related online resources when I want to learn or confirm something. So I want my answers quickly. That tends to rule out most Your Tube videos as they are not geared to provide people with definitive answers, and even when they do, you have to wade through 20 minutes of crap to extract one useful tidbit. 'Nooblets' is the only one I'll watch at all these days; mostly because he doesn't speak like a freakizoid.

Over the past 2 years I've found that a large % of Ark players (all platforms) come up with the craziest "What's To Come!" or Code of Conduct rules that are not even or have never been said or posted by any Ark Dev or credible website. Some of the junk I read in global chat on official servers blows my mind. These Bobs hear something from there Bob friend and they take it as true facts and spew it all over global chat. Just stick to this website and when the Devs do a Twitch stream on the channel SurviveTheArk. There is also the Dev tracker website which is nice. Ced is pretty good about updating Twitter. Like most games it's not perfect, but damn fun. The community is just a little bonkers at times.

Don't believe anything you hear from LoadedCrysis, Neroku, or JadePlaysGames. They are clickbait channels. They toss all sorts of theories out and very rarely if at all, is what they say true.

Loadedcrysis is a sensationalist creator that makes those kind of claims to drive views, subscribers, inflate his pocket book. It is all click bait. His titles seem like it is fact until you watch them long enough and come to realize it is all his theories and what he wants to see. It took me a long time to realize that.

LoadedCrysis is never very truthful. Nothing like that has been announced, mentioned, or even hinted at from official channels.

For ceilings/foundations, 2x2, 4x4, and 16x16 would be a huge help with server FPS and base loading. Same with foundations. 2x2, 4x2,and 4x4 walls would also help. Alteratively on PvE let us merge the large sections of buildings together into 1 unit. This will help a lot with lag.

    1) Search YouTube. Lots of videos showing Quetz sky bases. One thing I often see lacking is adequate defense though. Obviously can't use turrets but I think 50 vultures/dimorphs set to follow a passive dino could work since most people try to raid those bases with Wyv's. Hopefully they can buy you enough time to get on. 2) Tek is transferable. Gear and structures. Only raw element and element shards aren't transferable. Element dust is transferable. Engrams unlocked can be used on any map as they are character specific.
