  1. Woah! We haven't seen you since last year! Cheesy jokes aside though, it's time for another edition of the Sunken Scoop! Since we last saw you, after we shook off the holiday laziness, we've been working hard on the big ASA release! While we don't have a release date (for fear of summoning the curse that haunts all ARK releases) expect to see the creature mod very soon! In addition to the update on our porting status, we've also got some new pieces of concept art for you! The lovely Liaoningosaurus has gotten a redesign, but that's not the only thing that's gotten a facelift! It's a well known fact that many aquatic vanilla creatures are in dire need of TLCs... and Sunken Plesiosaur and Pelagornis' new concept art will give them the love they deserve! If this is your first time diving into the deep end, we are a dedicated team of individuals who are looking to spruce up the ocean biome in the same way that Scorched Earth offered a unique, biome specific challenge to survival. New creatures, resources, structures, items and more, all set on a huge custom map, we're looking to give ARK's oceans the TLC they deserve! The main goal is to bridge that huge gap between early and late game ocean exploration, and make it much more viable and more fun to live a life beneath the waves! This is unofficial content and is only related to our mod. It is in no way related with the official game and its content releases. Let's dive into the scoop! WHAT'S THE PROGRESS ON ASA? We've gotten a lot of questions recently about when we'll be coming to ASA. So we thought we should report that progress is going good! Currently we're in the process of upscaling all our old models from the ASE branch to the same resolution as ASA, alongside porting over the code for our creatures. This upscaling is only needed for our previous models though, we've been making everything else with ASA in mind, so once all the older creatures have been polished up, it'll be smooth sailing! While our team is quite large, Snappin is the backbone of getting things in game, as he's our the one in charge of all the creature work in the ARK Dev Kit. He's the only coder on the team, which means the brunt of the workload has been on him. We're definitely looking for more coders to help spread out the work though, so if you know anyone who's experienced in the ADK, send them over to the applications section in our discord (links at the bottom of the scoop)! Our release plan is still the same, creatures/resources/items first, map later. In terms of progress on the map, we're currently doing tons of research on the real world counterparts to our biomes to provide a strong foundation for some massive science-fantasy worldbuilding! The Sunken World in ASA is going to be amazing! As mentioned above, expect to see TSW Additions on the mods list in the very near future! LIAONINGOSAURUS REDESIGN We took "New Year, new me" quite literally for Liaoning! We felt that the pint-sized ankylosaur needed a few tweaks to its design to really sell its semi aquatic nature! This loveable little turtle lookalike makes for the perfect bulletproof backpack, carry it around to deflect any ranged damage from behind! Despite their small size, they're incredibly feisty, so having one on your back will ward off any small thieving pests too! NISIS, the newest member of our team, is the one behind this adorable visual TLC. SUNKEN PELAGORNIS CONCEPT What would TSW be without some feathery fishing companions? The Sunken Pelagornis is the best bird to bring on your next oceanic adventure, and it's a lot less scared to get its feathers wet compared to its vanilla counterpart! You heard that right, S. Pelagornis can not only paddle on the surface, but divebomb and give chase to any piscine snacks below the waves! And any excess fish that you catch can be put on its bill, literally! A pelican-like throat pouch, alongside some very large baskets on its saddle, can store up to 4 fish at a time for easy transportation across the map! While you fish right off the back of your buoyant bird, save the prized fish for your ornamental ponds! Your troughs will be overflowing with enough fish meat to feed a whole army of picky piscivores! The feature piece above and the bonus sketches below are thanks to ZCI5250! SUNKEN PLESIOSAURUS CONCEPT Gone are the days of the plesiosaur having a face only a mother could love! In the move to ASA, we'll be giving Sunken Plesiosaurus' model a much needed visual TLC and will be improving its mechanics to make it a much less overshadowed tame! In ASE we already gave S. Plesiosaurs a much kinder temperament, only attacking players if attacked first, but we felt these aquatic giants needed a bit more love! Expect your S. Plesiosaur to be much more manoeuvrable than their vanilla counterparts, with an added dash attack and the ability to quickly turn and bite in the direction your camera is facing! Aquatic combat can get incredibly floaty at times, and giant creatures with a low turning radius make it a lot less fun to try to hit moving targets. The S. Plesiosaur will still be able to utilise a platform as well, however the added weight will prevent you from using the dash attack. Hopefully the changes we make will allow it to become a much more viable tame! Artwork thanks to ZCI5250. COMMUNITY CORNER The Corner is open! Here's some fan submissions from all you wonderful supporters of the mod! Feel free to submit something yourself! Screenshots, artwork, videos and so on are all fair game, and we'd love to feature your work in the next scoop! There's a submissions channel in our discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken with #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Artwork Tylosaurus Fan-Art by Fug1 A lovely fan rendition of Tylosaurus' old design with some ice armour to match! That's all for this issue of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! Big things coming in 2024 for TSW! We can't wait to share the excitement with you all! Have a wonderful timezone! If this is your first time seeing TSW, check out the links below to find out more! Please note that if you want to play our mod, you need both the map and creature mod active. 2. Are you using lights? Troodons flee from any and all light sources.

  3. Guys, this is plum ridiculous.... Yall have got to tone this thing down, I can't even type items that are IN GAME into filter boxes to make quick inventory adjustments.... I cant type "the" or LOL... even "Code of Conduct" is censored... Cant type COOKED MEAT or even capitalize vault names like "Fiber" or "Thatch" and most other common and completely PG and PC words... We need a way to disable it per player, make it default at log in... IDC, but allow us to disable it completely, once in game... Something has got to give on this...

  4. Please note as well. These numbers are only for Steam. There are more console players who purchased Ark than PC (Steam and Epic combined). We don't have any visibility into those statistics. Would be nice to know.

  5. Dinos in "neutral" and "attack my target" modes will not have any reaction until a Survivor or Dino of the Tribe is damaged, they will not attack even when something tries to attack you but fails to touch you (when you hear the battle music someone is trying to hit you but none of your Dinos will react until you actually get touched, so you can run away without anyone engaging in the fight). The difference between "neutral" and "attack my target: in "attack my target" your Dinos will always attack the animal that is attacking your character, if you are fighting a Carno and a Raptor where the Raptor is harming everyone they will attack the Raptor even if the Carno hits them, at the moment the Raptor runs away he will be chased but if at that moment the Carno hits you then everyone will flock towards the Carno while in "neutral" mode they would continue to chase the Raptor, so in "neutral" they will fight against whoever is hitting them without changing their objective if something hits you (this is why in Boss Arenas it is more logical to put "neutral" otherwise the army could be distracted from attacking the Boss if a minion hits you ). As for the "agro ray" it should work just as you imagine because it affects the distance between the two animals in question, I use it for example on the Argi and the Dimorphodons: if I am around with some of them as an escort I will I always keep at least 1 with minimum range and in "attack my target" to increase my defense on the character when others are already chasing something that then moves away, this is not your case but the concept is that they should only attack within the set radius and they should stop attacking when their target goes out of that range even when other Dinos continue the chase if set with greater range, and it should also apply with your Calicotherios in the turret if set with different ranges (I'm not sure about this, the the only turrets that I use/used are Yuty-Velona-CristalWyrm-Magmar but for the uses I make of them it wasn't useful for me to have differentiated distances)

  6. Yes, it seems to be normal in ASA too. The Wild Baby are an exception, I happened to see pairs of W.Baby where only one of the two scored 2 levels higher than his brother.

  7. At the end of 2016, this behemoth was added to game and to my knowledge has never received a visual overhaul. Who else would like to see it get a little bit of a visual remake, considering that we are playing on a elevated level of game with ark survival ascended? Don't get me wrong, I've had a lot of fun with the game and don't really have many gripes, but I was looking at my poor gigas today and just wondering, because they still look just so rough.

  9. Don't let them get you in the first place. Situational awareness is your friend. Troodons are supposed to be a threat, if things can't kill you then it's not much of a survival game.

  10. I would love to see Xbox/ps5 hardcore servers. but if they add pc in there I am not playing, I absolutely hate pc, it’s so unfair. Specially in hardcore servers, not to mention a majority of the hacks and abuses come from PC players. Please WC hardcore servers for consoles only

  11. That's sort of true, but not entirely. The server has to keep track of everything on the map regardless of whether it's rendered or not, so every single object on the map adds a tiny bit to the overall workload of the server. Having said that, what hits the server much harder is the work it has to do when players are logged in and moving around, causing objects to render and out in all over the map. A server with 500,000 structure items will run slower than a server with 10,000 structure items, even if only 1 person is logged in to the server at a time. How much slower? It's hard to say because there are other causes of lag (internet communications, whether other people in your house are using the internet while you're playing, the tech specs on your machine, you get the idea). And, once a server has accumulated lots and lots of structure items, like they do when a bunch of tribes have all built big bases, that server is going to run a bit slower (and have more lag spikes) that a server would that wasn't heavily built up. So you're party right, servers have to do a lot more work when there are more people logged in and moving around, but this doesn't mean that "structures are only there if they are rendered", the server still has to keep track of every single structure at all times, no matter what. For what it's worth, players who are moving around the map cause a lot more work for the server than people who are staying in a small area. So if there are 10 people running/flying around the world looking for things to tame, they cause a lot more work for the server than 30 people who are all just in their base doing base maintenance. This is why you can sometimes have a larger number of people logged in but things seem ok but other times there can be only a few people logged in and the server has a bunch of lag. The activity, or lack of activity, of the players who are logged in makes noticeable difference for server performance.

  13. Yeah however many folks are online at a time has nothing to do with it. Seen as little as 18 on with 200+ ping and rubberbanding. Im sure there are dozens of folks with countless babies out during the event and thats not helping things. BUT HEY!!! NEW UNREAL ENGINE FOR ASA MAKES IT ALL RUN BETTER, RIGHT?!
