Patch 254: TEK Tier, Purlovia, Baryonyx, Basilosaurus, Ovis, Hair, and more!

The Final Stretch Survivors! Patch 254 is a tech-focused patch introducing new armour, structures, game mechanics, and for new friends will be available to discover, tame, and train as Survivors make their way towards defeating the Ultimate Lifeform. We are excited to introduce TEK Tier Phase 1, Hairstyles & Facial Hair, Jousting, the fluffy Ovis, the piscivorous Baryonyx, the beloved Basilosaurus, and the pouncing Purlovia!

TEK Tier is the end-game technology tier in our crafting system and as of Patch 254, players will be able to get their first taste of the content. As we progress towards release, we will be introducing more features and structures based around TEK. This update is our introductory phase and includes a power armour set, the TEK Replicator, used for crafting and the TEK Transmitter, used for the CrossARK System.

    large.ARK_TekJet.jpg

TEK Tier earned & powered by defeating Bosses and collecting their Element will put players in power armour granting them advanced abilities, and add powerful TEK Saddles with mounted energy weapons to the capabilities of some of their favourite dinos, including your favourite apex predator, the T-Rex!

    large.3187498-ark-tek-tier-07.jpg

Players will be able to use the TEK armour to evolve their abilities, from how they fight:

    large.ARK_Tek.jpg

    to how they travel:

    large.ARK_TekRun.jpg

with many more additional features and structures to come! It should be noted that we will still be adding in technology and structures to other tech-tiers of the game throughout development!

Another long awaited feature for ARK will be making its debut today. We want to provide the opportunity to allow players to express themselves through their character design as much as possible!

    large.588f513b9f957_Therearenomistakesonlyhappyaccidents..jpg

As characters play on their ARKs their hair and facial hair will begin to grow over time. Using scissors, and the hairstyling knowledge they have acquired through playing the game they'll be able to dye, cut, trim and style to the appearance that they prefer!

    large.588f517145001_BarbersHateThem!.jpg

Over time we'll be introducing more hairstyles and facial hair options, as well as looking into further ways that players will be able to discover their style!

    large.DiscoverYourStyle.jpg

Patch 254 also includes a menagerie of new creatures for Survivors to get a hold of!

    large.588f5141e6988_MajesticMuttonBusting.jpg

    large.ARK_Ovis_Dossier2.jpg

    large.588f513f4c54a_Canyoujusttakealittleoffthetop.jpg

Ovis Aries, our favourite farmyard animal! Ovis stands little chance against the Island's many predators, its continued survival in the face of these severe challenges in a mystery to all. Survivors have found herds of Ovis to be useful in farm life. Their thick wool can be repeatedly sheared with the proper tools, and after raised they are often slaughtered for their mutton which is used to cook lamb chops.

    large.588f513a9d59a_SnipSnip.jpg

Despite their vulnerabilities, some survivors have humorously attempted to utilise Ovis as a mount, since it can clamber up steeper inclines than many other animals.

    large.588f5141e6988_MajesticMuttonBusting.jpg

    large.588f5181a7d7a_Doublerainbowallthewaycrossthesky!.jpg

    large.Dossier_Basilosaurus.jpg

Basilosaurus Solatiumfecit, one of the strangest creatures surrounding the island. It has proven to be a very powerful swimmer which has adapted to shallow waters quite remarkably, such that it will rapidly recover from injuries when near the water's surface. The creature is usually followed around by other predatory creatures, as its eating habit leaves scraps for scavengers to consume. Its blubber is found to be incredibly greasy so survivors often slaughter the Basilosaurus for oil.

    large.588f51474d16b_YouWontBelieveWhatHappensNext!.jpg

    large.Dossier_Purlovia.jpg

Purlovia Maxima, the carnivore which perfectly embodies the element of surprise. An incredibly patient hunter, used by tribes in staging an ambush or as a village guardian. With tamed packs of Purlovia, survivors have often assembled a minefield of deadly claws and teeth, ready to pounce their enemies and prey.

    large.588f517f1bda4_DUNDUNDUNDUNDUNNNNNDAAAAAAAAAAAAANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDN.jpg

    large.Baryonyx.jpg

Baryonyx Aquafulgur, one of the smaller of the large predators. The Baryonyx is an extremely fast swimmer who is still nimble enough to threaten most creatures on the island. Baryonyx makes an ideal choice for anyone interested in frequently moving between water and land travel with ease and valuing speed and agility over raw strength. The highly specific metabolism of Baryonyx seems to allow it to heal wounds almost preternaturally fast after feeding on nutritious fish meat.

    large.588f517cc0b2e_Andtheysaychivalryisdead....jpg

Patch 254 also introduces the highly-requested weapon, the Lance and the ability for survivors to joust one another. Ride to your nearest stadium, and compete head to head with other Survivors! Jousting requires a certain amount of skill from survivors, as the weight of the lance has made it difficult for ungifted riders to correctly control their mount, however with the right amount of practice it has proven to be a great tool to knock other survivors off of their tames!

Not to mention a number of QOL changes (Pressing the [TAB] key to switch between chat channels, and directionally jumping off your mounts plus more!) and bug fixes (Fixes to how players seep through geometry, the infamous Allosaurus 'raiding' bug, and more!) You can check out the entire patch notes here:

We are planning to release the patch today at 20:00 EST!

There's not long to go! Plus in the meantime we've also put up the notes for our next upcoming patch which you can read about here:

All looks very cool... but when do us Linux and Mac types get the update??? Can't get onto any official servers as I'm out of date now :(

*edit* I notice that it's not just version 254 out today, but 254.1 and 254.2 have hit as hotfixes already. Given that I expect the non-windows clients might be a bit of a wait. Dang, I was really looking forward to getting on tonight.

I was all excited for this patch, but then I discover little if anything is enabled on The Center servers, and even the easiest boss requires many players to complete.

Conan exiles seems a lot more enticing today after a month of hype on this patch.

When is the insane lag and ruber banding going to be fixed? It is beyond ridiculous i think you should prioritize this rather than adding more busted content Mmmmmmmkaaaay.I have a low ping to server list but when I get in game it is 200+ and it is not just me it is everyone.

Hair starts bald and grows in. After an hour you should start to see your style growing.

Sounds like it will grow out as styled though

Nah, the game looks too childish. It's made for boy men. Guys who still think like a jr. high boy. That said I like this survival genre and I'm excited to see what other games develop with this theme.

Welp, total bullcrap. The biggest thing to come to ark that's been hype-trained up for over 2 years and it finally comes here and it's so impossible to get and requires a tribe of 8 people. Our low population servers will never see it. It's literally impossible here. So much for that.

I can only pray that someone figures out the console commands to either learn the tek tier items or generate patterns for em and I can hand em out to everyone on the server so I can bypass this bullcrappery. GG ruining the game devs.

I can't say I agree. I've seen low number tribes defeat bosses on Youtube. My wife and I beat the broodmother way back before the arena (granted it was easier then because we had lots of time). However I do recognize that it is much harder because Alpha tribes can impede your prep and progress. But as a solo player, it is mostly out of my reach, but that's not new. I don't expect to be incredibly powerful. Small tribes should NOT be as strong as a large tribe. That would be bad game balance. If you work together you should be able to do things faster and easier. I personally choose to not do that, but my expectations of what I can do are balanced with that. This game is 'capitalist' rather than 'socialist' in nature. The strong get stronger, and the weak stay weak, unless the strong help out. I find that dynamic really interesting. As well, in my single player game, I like that I have huge challenges ahead of me and that it's not easy.

So.. New tier.. alot of new stuff and mechanics.. And ARK in SALE!

What about some new Servers for the returning / new players? :) (Some that you can not transfer to from all officials like cluster or ORP servers?) (I wanne come back :/:D )

Maybe fix the lag and rubberbanding ? Best solution they could implement to make sure players keep playing and don't go to some other games.

That's a good way of looking at it, though personally I'd much rather either create a rebalanced version for single-player mode, or give us the ability to do so with .ini changes.

v254 Mac and Linux is now up, sorry for delay guys. Our team passed out before setting them live last night. 😴

Thanks for making this one of the best looking Mac games (I run on full Epic!) and keeping it in sync with Windows, so I can play with my friends.

The fact that you have to beat bosses for the material makes all this garbage.

A lot of ppl play (laggy) single player to stay the heck away from the cesspool of (most) online servers.

But don't you think that the way things are now makes beating the bosses sort of pointless? I mean you do it once for the trophy, but after that, there is no end game really. This adds a nice dynamic and reason to progress.  It also diverts alpha attention and resources a bit, probably making a bit of space for some other tribes to rise up.

Anyone know how to unlock more hair styles? I only ask because one featured quite a lot in the gamespot preview was a tied back style and it doesn't seem to be available. That being said, the hair /beard system is amazing. Best I've seen in any game. Looking forward to the new styles

I got the latest patch and all the tek gear. However, some of the animations aren't working. The plasma bolts don't show from the tek rifle until they explode, the tek replicator doesn't have the power aura inside the sphere, and now i can't take out my rifle from my quickbar.

    please fix soon
