  • Introducing the Deinonychus!

    Deinonychus

    Common Name: Deinonychus
    Species: Deinonychus magna pede
    Time: Cretaceous
    Diet: Carnivore
    Temperament: Aggressive

    Wild
By the time you hear the scurrying claws of the Deinonychus, it's often too late. Superior hunters, they leap from a hiding place and pounce on their prey. The Deinonychus is an agile climber as well, jumping from wall ledge to wall ledge as it seeks high vantage points to lie in wait.

A hungry Deinonychus tends to be fearless and will hunt prey much larger than itself, latching onto a dinosaur's back with its sickle-shaped claws, then starting to feed before its victim is even dead. While it likes its meat fresh, a Deinonychus isn't above scavenging a carcass if no other food is available.

    Domesticated
Raising a Deinonychus in captivity requires an ample food supply, as they have a fast metabolism to match their high activity level. The Deinonychus is also fiercely territorial near nests with eggs, even if the eggs aren't its own. This makes breeding successive generations a hazardous process.

Unless raised from eggs, they cannot be tamed; the hunter instinct of a wild Deinonychus is so strong that it reflexively pounces on a would-be master.

When will this creature make its first appearance on the ARK?  Find out more soon!

So it's basically a troodon then

Not really no not likely that it dose torpor it has different mechanics jumping and climbing instead if running and hiding also you have to steal eggs and it probably does a bleed so it's only similar to the troodon in size (maybe) and look (not really)

I think it's cool I'd just like to know the sizing of the creature compared with the player

Wait, does this mean they are reskin-ing creatures from the Additional Creatures Mod and adding them to the game?

Hmm I wonder about this line and the picture under it. It seemed to be awake and curled in a ball but not knocked unconscious. Could these dinos have the tendency to curl up on their nests or random eggs to hide them, then attack when someone comes near? It would make egg stealing a lot more difficult, and likely harder to find. I’ve had  megalosaurus attack in such a manner, which can be hard to see some times when their sleeping in the bushes and camouflage colored, this would be a perfect tactic for a protective stealth hunter.

behold the new king of ark, the brachi. i will have these set all around my base

That baby is too OP :P I can't imagine WildCard not nerfing the guy's harvesting abilities at the very least. And that stomp, oh boy (did you know the Ark Additions Brachio can stomp underwanter... and kill the fishies around even though they are clearly not on land ? #arkphysics).
Don't get me wrong, I like the Brachio, but WildCard seems to have a tendency to think that we only deserve pain, suffering, and spending a lot of time to do things. The Brachio is too beautiful for this world.

This being said, I ADORE its taming mechanism. It's truly unique and it takes some time to master. It's a precision job (taming is rarely about precision in Ark), it requires a lot of ammo (and no tranq), it's something you can't improvise... it's not something you can do randomly just because you happened to run into one, you have to plan a bit ahead and put in some skill. The Ark Additions brachio is the epitome of adding new challenges to an aging game with just a couple of great ideas.
TL;DL : please don't change the taming method for the brachio if it's included.

So the styracosaurus is a no because the dossier says the trike is like a hybrid between the two but the rest seem great

Let's try to keep this thread about the introduction of the Deinonychus. If you guys want to suggest and discuss the addition of some other species, then please do so in the Game Suggestions section. :)

Hooray! Yet another Dino I’ll never get to experience because I was gullible enough to buy your Switch version of Ark! Thanks! For nothing!

I get the feeling "nests with eggs" would include Wyvern and Rock Drake nests as well, IDK how that would work though. 😅

Doubtful it will be the size of. A troodon. If you look it up, the skeletal remains put it just under the size of. A velociraptor, so roughly Pachy size or slightly larger. Good addition and one of my favorite Dinos! Even before Ark!
