    A Message from the Founders

    Hello Survivors,

    Jesse and Jeremy here! We know things have been a bit quiet on Genesis news for the past few weeks, even though there is much more to show you, we’ve been deeply immersed in the pre-release development process. That being said, we’re writing today to tell you that the final release date for Genesis Part 1 is now February 25th, 2020 simultaneously on all platforms.

    This additional delay will no doubt come as a disappointment to everyone who is eagerly awaiting Genesis. We’re extremely sorry to push it back an extra month, but as we have been heads-down with the rest of the team polishing, balancing and putting the final pieces together, we really felt that the extra wait will be worth it both for the quality of the base game and the ambitious new expansion.

    The live ops team is taking advantage of the scheduling change by making sure we have a really fun Valentine’s event in store for you (something we originally planned to skip because it followed so closely behind the launch of the new expansion). Plus, we’ve just deployed an initial anti-meshing patch, and next week we will be rolling out a definitive anti-meshing logic overhaul that should fundamentally address those long-standing issues. As we look forward to a successful cross-platform launch of Genesis, all of this will make ARK substantially better for everyone who plays PvP and PvE.

    Anti-Meshing Efforts

    Hey everybody! I’m WC_jellyknee, the lead Live Ops Engineer on the ARK team.
     
    I wanted to tell you about our efforts to prevent cheating in ARK in general, and our continuing efforts to defeat undermeshing specifically. We're excited to get this post out in order to address the issue of meshing with the community and, also, to share news on how we will be countering meshing more aggressively moving forward via technical solutions. I'm going to start off by quoting from a previous developer diary:

    Undermeshing refers to the ability to get to where you aren't supposed to by moving outside of the playable space. Almost every game is susceptible to undermeshing in some form. Most speed runs rely on undermeshing, for example. It's effectively impossible to solve completely, at least automatically. The approaches taken to prevent it are usually a tradeoff between how much freedom you want the player to have, how complex your world is, and how much processing time you can afford to spend on physics. Generally, when there's an instance of meshing, it's caused by bad collision setup, improper level geometry (holes), or a problem with the algorithm used to move the character through the world. In some instances, you place kill volumes in locations that you want to guarantee that the player doesn't end up, but that isn’t a global solution.

    When we lay out our levels - we construct them in the way that is interesting and optimize them for efficiency so that we can maximize quality and quantity. What that means is generally the world outside of the space you're meant to play in is empty - we spend our resources on the spaces where players are at. In addition - we reuse assets many, many times - rotating a rock different ways to make it look different before shoving it into the terrain at various depths to mask the reuse and keep it visually pleasing. Technically, the physics for these objects overlaps, and if you get past the surface of one, you'll stand on the next one down. While that sounds like it would help, it’s actually the meat of the problem. Adding more meshes doesn’t help, because once you can get past one, you can get past the next one. That said, there have been many instances where we’ve flagged the collision on an object incorrectly, or left a minute hole that we can and do address through Level Design.

    Undermeshing has been a thorn in the side of both players as well as the enforcement team, and a serious concern for the development team. To help mitigate this, we have further upgraded our anti-undermeshing system in order to help the enforcement team track down problematic map areas, as well as tracking down people who are breaking the ARK Code of Conduct.
     
    This underlying system has been in place for a while now, gathering useful data, and we have been testing it to make sure that it works reliably. We wanted to make sure that it minimizes the amount of false positives - we don't want it to flag locations where players can get to during normal play

    Now that this system has been proven to be effective, we've now built another layer on top of it to take advantage of this data. I don't want to give specific numbers here because it can only help bad actors try to find new exploits, but I'll explain how this system works:
     
    1) If we detect a player undermeshing for a certain amount of time, it will teleport them to a valid position that they were previously at. It will then monitor that player for an amount of time.
    2) If the system finds that player undermeshing again within that time, or if it's not able to teleport the player to a previous position, then the player's character will die. Any items being carried will remain at that location.
    3) The system is aware of what the character is doing, and will take certain actions into account to help prevent player frustration.
     
    The system, whilst in a state we’re confident will have an impact on limiting meshing, is in a state of ongoing development. We will continually make improvements and updates,  along with rolling out more definitive undermeshing-resolving changes in the next week.

     



    While we continue to introduce new content and experiences to fans of ARK we will remain focused on ensuring that everyone has a fair playing experience on the Official Network.

    By default, the anti meshing system will be on for the Official Network
    
    For Unofficials, these launch parameters can be used:
    -noundermeshchecking // Will turn it off the anti meshing system entirely
    -noundermeshkilling // Will turn it off the anti meshing player kills (but still allow teleporting)

    Recently introduced Ark to two of my brothers and we are currently showing them around Aberration and getting Reapers so we can make do with the delay.. Gives us more time to have babies!! Sure the wait will be worth it, I can't wait to have my own giant sea turtle!!! ?❤️

    To all newbies at ARK;

    This is how WC rolls. Since day 1. 

    Get used to it or switch to other developers, because they DO NOT give a single bit about complaints due to delayed release dates.

    Like the CoC and ticketing sytem. It's there, somewhere, but you never know when they going to use it.

    been playing ark since 2016 June  1hr short of 4200 gaming hours in ark  so i am clearly not new to the game   i have been playing this game since SE came out 

    so you must be new to this game to as you joined here or in ark as of sept 2015   so  Rotate     i am aloud to express my displeasure of how this current dlc is being  handled information wise to its player base

    Why didnt you delay the release so its not that laggy and buggy, bwaaah, bwaaah.

    Bwaaah, fix meshing its a major problem, bwaah bwaah!

    2020 be like:

    I dont mind if they delay the game, I just hope it wont be as bad as exti DLC.

    Few seconds later:

    Why did you delay my game that I preordered? Bwaaaah! I want it NOW!

    Bwaaah, WC isnt communicating, tell me NOW NOW!

    WC makes a post where they explain their new antimesh method and because of working on this, valentine event and new DLC they need another month to properly test as much aspects as they can (because the game offers so many across all platforms):

    Bwaaah, you told me so much AND I dont like what you said, bwaaaaaaaaah!

    BWAAAH my game is delayeeeed, I dont want to play it anymore, mommy I want refund so I can buy the DLC again 20 days later! That will show them!

    I dont care they will probably reduce the amount of meshing, they actualy made a progress and I cant cry about it anymore, bwaaah bwaah.

    Your crying is filling my heart with warmth and joy, thats what you deserve for preordering from a studio that wasnt reliable with dates before.

    I will just sit back and eat my popcorn while you are going to go after each others throats on the new map because of the chinese wave of pillars and claimed areas, some random rollbacks because something unexpected happens that couldnt be tested before and complaints when someone steals that juicy lvl 150 dino. After this storm is settled, I will consider buying the DLC. So go on, cry and fight!

    Sounds like a major disaster, handling undermesh in this game by killing the player...millions of innocents will be killed for getting stuck in a tree, or a rock, or teleported and got pinned in a wall. Rubberbanding and being executed by a antimesh system made by amateurs. You know the most hilarious part of this post? It's where they say that ALL GAMES are susceptible to undermeshing! And they follow that by explaining how they built the maps and meshes like if they were children learning to make a game lolololol this is good poop xD omg the nerve on these people

    Better delay it for 5 years and fix the problems with the game you are having now.

    You guys don't seem to care that some people can't play this game properly, accepted these fking huge memoryleaks and tons of bugs.

    Great having a high end PC that can't run ARK xDxDxD But lets launch another expansion!

    Man ark players cry harder then star wars "fans". I for one am just happy a studio put out such an amazing game with so much amazing content. And the fact that your still adding to it is crazy. You know EA just drops its games off like a 15 yo girl at an orphanage? We are lucky these guys try at all. I had a group of friends who really loved anthem. We could end up like those guys...

    I sincerely hope that it will not be postponed again and that dlc is really worth it and knows the worst that we all know that even with the postponements it becomes full of bugs ... ?

    So we wait another month yay...

    Kinda disappointed over here but hey we know you guys let us down every damn time..

    Heres another thing.. i bought ark and the previous dlcs on my xbox and i played and installed them on both my xbox and pc..

    Now this new dlc? Yea it cant be played on the pc when you buy it on the xbox..

    You guys letting us buy this season pass twice..

    Why do you guys do this? Dont you got enough money already from us?

    Why would someone have to pay twice only to play on both xbox and pc while the previous dlcs and the base game can be played on xbox and pc?

    (And for people asking no i dont mean the steam version, i mean the windows version)

    When abberation was released we couldn't play it for a month because of random server deletes. 

    Extinction randomly killed us, main parts of the game never worked and everything was generally messed up.

    It was months before they were playable at a decent level because they rushed the DLCs out for players on the release dates. so I'm more than happy to wait for this to get worked on properly since its adding so many unique new concepts.

    Running a business of any sort, and you're looking for the best way to lose customers or supporters? Just follow in the footsteps of Wild Card. That's right, folks. It's only 3 easy steps. Pay absolutely no attention to some of your servers (Legacy) and take away half of that communities hard work by destroying their servers in the end. Then, when you're getting ready to release something new, delay that product not once, but twice even after people paid for it. Lastly, hit the people you're losing with that "We have a surprise in store for when the next event hits" in hopes to gain some of that support back, but utterly fail because you know, you just delayed something over the course of 2-3 months. I promise you, folks. In a matter of days, and weeks, you'll see a percentage rise of how many supporters and customers you lost. Now, get out there and disappoint those supporters! We wanna see who can do it better!

    Thanks WC The new pics look great I cant wait. For the same cost as taking the wife to the movie theater I'll get a thousand hours of enjoyment..

    For the folks who are up in arms and acting irrational just step back and think about it. It's just pixels on a screen, enjoy it for what it is.
