  • Achievement Unlocked: Your first day…

Congratulations Survivors! You (and us too) survived a full day and night on the ARK! And what an eventful day it has been.

A lot’s been going on, and we thought it would be good to wrap up the day with a quick update regarding the state of the game and our plans over the days and weeks ahead.

Let’s discuss a few key topics: the first is no stranger to ARK games on Day One, and that’s client-side performance. Working from anecdotal feedback and hard data provided by players, we deployed a new client-side update released tonight that will improve your game's framerate. The update adds a number of optimizations and better settings assignments for each Graphics Quality mode, and you'll get an immediate gain upon trying out the new build.

Once you've got the update, please change your "Graphics Quality" setting to your preferred setting (Low/Medium/High/Epic) to take full advantage of the new under-the-hood settings. Tomorrow and into the weekend, we'll release further improvements to client performance, including generating a Pipeline State Object Cache to reduce/eliminate graphics stuttering & hitching and further optimizing the sky/cloud/atmosphere shaders. Thank you for bearing with us as the team works to ensure the game runs better for various configurations, including this first set of optimizations and the many still to come.

The second is a one-two combo: server-side stability and optimization. The team has been battling a number of never-before-seen crashes since the game went live (such is life — 1 hour of live play is equivalent to a month of internal QA). Honestly, the floodgates had opened, and at one point, servers were coming down faster than we could put them online! Thankfully, as of our latest server-side build, we’ve managed to get the servers in a much more stable state, eliminating over 95% of server crashes. There’s still more we plan to address, and you can expect more deployments to happen over the next few days to ensure as much uptime as possible and launch additional servers based on capacity needs!

As for how well the servers run, we’ve been collecting data over the last 24 hours to identify major server performance pain points. This will be a major focus for the engineering team, and we’ll be looking to introduce as many optimizations as possible. After a week or so, we plan to have a PTR branch of the game available to test out some of our riskier optimizations before we set them live to the public. But for now, we’ll continue operating from the main branch of the game as we’ve just launched and are in rapid patch mode!

And lastly, the ARK Devkit (for ASA) is now available! For those unfamiliar, the ARK DevKit is a custom version of the Unreal Engine 5 Editor that provides dedicated infrastructure to help you take your imagination into the game of ARK: Survival Ascended. The kit is available to download HERE, and we’ve got a quick FAQ you can check out HERE.

We’re really excited to get this out to you and cannot wait to see you build beyond boundaries in ARK: Survival Ascended!

This is only the beginning of ASA’s Early Access journey; there’s still much more we plan to do to the game as we develop it. This means working through the rough patches and introducing new features, content, and gameplay. We cannot wait to get all that and more in your hands. But for now, we’ll say thank you for all your feedback, support, and excitement. It’s been wonderful watching so many of you begin the first steps of your ASA adventures, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us!

    Good night! ❤️

I know this may be a little blunt but from what I saw of the pc gameplay on YouTube studio wildcard could have possibly put the single player offline content out for consoles. I think that may have been a possibility for them. Any thoughts on this?

Is there any way that we could have the ability to run our own private servers off of personal rigs? I have a second PC set up with the sole purpose of running servers - it seems wasteful to pay Nitrado hundreds a year when I've hosted servers for ASE for the 5 or so friends of mine that play for YEARS now. Might just be sticking to ASE if the only options are single player, official servers, or shelling out to Nitrado and not being able to change settings on the fly.

Here I was thinking that we'd get the release of the animated series alongside with ASA. We've been waiting for so long. Please, any information

When are you going to address the fact that we are unable to host our own servers with our own personal equipment. Theres no way Im paying Nitrado that much money for shotty service at best when my friends and i have been hosting our games with our own personal server rack for years now.

Steam recently removed the local currency for various countries of the south like Argentina because the inflation there is so high, the game studios cannot price the game accordingly. The price were switched to USD. Maybe that's the case why you see higher price.

No, game studios can change price for every country. I saw some games costs 1000 usd in Argentina or some Ukrainian studios that makes game cost extremely high for Russia

Will it be possible via the DEV KIT that the structures load BEFORE the animals?
Or is that anchored in the code so that this is not changeable?

While its all nice and all that, where is info about our own hosted private servers with a posibility to have a cluster of them?

And why there isnt any mention about regional price change? If it was a steam change why not make a statement? The game now cost more than 25% of monthly minimal salary in a country i live in...

When are we going to be able to play ASA on our own private servers in our homes????
You have lost a lot of revenue by cutting us all off from our favorite game.

The bug "GameThread timed out waiting for RenderThread after 120.00 secs" is not fixed.

Game freezes from the character creation screen!

If lucky we can log in sometimes => crash in less than 10s. All  the time !

    All drivers updated, rtx3060 here

Are you aware about this problem?

They still haven't fixed this?  Wow, that'd be one of the first things I'd fix as it sucks in ASE to have this, including players where you spawn in and are stuck in foundations and have to either destroy the foundation or keep trying to rejoin without being stuck.

Can you address the servers that just disappeared and never came back after they all went down 24 hours ago?

Well, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that you guys just ignored us and not mention anything about hosting our own unofficial servers. Taking 5 minutes to clarify if it's something that will come or not is too much to ask it would seem...

I am writing to express my heartfelt appreciation for the transparency and openness that you have demonstrated on the forums regarding the game's development challenges and the steps being taken to address them. It is truly commendable to witness your team's dedication to keeping the player community informed about the issues encountered, the fixes implemented, and the future plans for the game. Your willingness to openly discuss the game's progress and setbacks not only fosters trust but also strengthens the bond between the players and the development team. In an industry where transparency is often lacking, your approach stands out as a beacon of integrity. I believe I speak on behalf of many players when I say that we understand every game encounters challenges during development. What truly matters is the way developers handle these challenges and communicate with their player base. Your team's transparency instills confidence in us, the players, that you are actively working to make Ark Survival Ascended the best it can be. Thank you for your dedication, honesty, and hard work. Your efforts do not go unnoticed. We, the players, are grateful for the updates and insights you provide. Please continue to keep us informed about the game's progress, and rest assured that your commitment to transparency has won the respect and admiration of the entire community.

I'd be in a much better state if i could join servers from the actual menu, instead of having to load into single player and join via the console command to get into official servers..

Also, not sure how many people are actually looking into it, but I'm calling CAP on 70/70, there were maybe 20-30 people on my official all night, yet menu showed 70/70. I wonder if there's an issue with the server not acknowledging when people leave..

Yeah with survival games this seems to be the best practice. Both the other open world survival games I play, Rust and Dayz, employ this system.

WC is only 8 years late to the party but hey better late than never.

What do you mean? They did this with the first version of the game, too. Does no one remember the first (of only two to three or so, sadly) big wipe to official after all the major troubleshooting, QA, and duping in like 2015-2016?

I hate to be the one to bring you back to reality here but the only thing that's been transparent is the fact that studio wildcard admitted that there are a boatload of problems that they are trying to fix that's it.
