Xbox Play Anywhere

Hello!

I have been playing for quite some time now, but I would love to play with my brothers, both of whom have Xbox Ones. I only have a PC, the one from Steam, never bought an xbox in my life, but I did have an Xbox Live account for a little bit on a buddies xbox in college. After hearing about the Xbox Play Anywhere, and how I will be able to host a game on my Windows 10 PC, I was wondering what I need to do to get that started.

I am prepared to buy the game (again) if needed, and pay for Gold Membership with the Xbox.

I understand that the Xbox version is a "lesser" game, but the ability to play with my friends is totally worth it!

I have read that its available now, but when I look at purchasing it on the website it says its only available for Xbox.

I can't seem to find ANYWHERE that will give me definite information. And trying to use "Customer Support" is anything by supporting.

Thanks for any information!

The way Play Anywhere works is that you basically get a free copy of the game for Windows 10 if you buy the Xbox version.  And it will keep your save games synced across both platforms.  Cross platform functionality within the game is up to the developers.  So how Ark servers will work is up to Wildcard.

Also please bear in mind that your copy of the game attaches to your Xbox/Microsoft account.  NOT to Steam.  The Play Anywhere thing is handled through the the "Windows Store".  If you want to play the game you'll need to be logged into the Microsoft Account that bought the game.  Otherwise the game won't find a valid license and won't run.

Is it still unavailable? Because this article is very misleading if it isn't.

You'll notice that that website is just copying information it got from another website that wrote about it back in June. It's a typical site that wants to write about relevant uptodate news, so finds old content from other news sites and refreshes it, but not bothering to do any uptodate research. Yes the site is misleading, but there's no point going by those sort of sites in the first place.

I didn't think so but I've been trying to keep tabs on it and this was the first one that actually said "currently playable" so I thought I'd make sure.

I think that everyone is misunderstanding the current "Play Anywhere" concept for Ark Survival Evolved on XB1. It appears that people believe that this means that an XB1 version can play on same server as a computer version. This is not the case as of now.

What is does is let a person who has an XBox 1 and an XBox 1 game to link the XBox 1 to their computer that has windows 10 through an app causing their XBox 1 to stream to the computer. Thus, a person can use their computer to play their XBox 1 Ark game on their XBox 1 remotely.

Here is a long live stream of someone doing that. This is played on Xbox one with one friend hosting and others joining his game. Go to the linked video at the end of this post and fast forward to 1:30:00 in the video and listen for a couple of minutes. The guy says that he has his Xbox connected to his computer and using his computer to play the Xbox game. A Windows 10 app can be connected to an Xbox one but the Ark game must be a Xbox one version and running on the Xbox one while connected.

OP: This would need more investigation but I believe that the only way to play with your brothers is to get an Xbox one, Ark Survival Evolved game for Xbox one, Xbox Live account, have your brothers in your Xbox live friends list, A windows 10 OS with Xbox app (comes with windows 10) connected to your Xbox One; and then you can use your computer to play an Xbox Ark with your brothers. The controls will still function as a Xbox though so short cut keys might be limited.

All I can say is the guy in the video is doing it. There was a disruption on internet access at the hosts house so they lost their "Server" for a moment early on and had to reconnect. Times set in the videos description on yourtube.

Dude that's Game Streaming in Windows 10 via the XBOX App, not 'Play Anywhere' which is a specific term for the "buy once play anywhere" concept that will let people who buy a game for EITHER an XB1 OR a PC from the Windows Store and get a copy of the game on the other platform.

There is no other concept, for ARK or any other game. Play Anywhere is one thing, Game Streaming is another.

This is absolute madness!!! Why would you do the bit on bold? A completely unnecessary step - you'd just use the XB1... The PC offers no benefits whatsoever?!?!? There are no shortcut keys, Game Streaming is literally just that - streaming the XBOX game to the Windows 10 PC, nothing more. You need an XB1 pad plugged into the PC to play. I do this pretty much daily so I can play whilst my wife has the TV that my XB1 is connected to.

You are correct. My bad. Misinterpreted information. Thanks for the correction.

Has there been any kind of ETA for the release of Play Anywhere?  I have always played ARK on PC and being able to host our own servers is great.  Recently I have a group of friends who have Xbox and want to play and us PC players want to be able to play with them.  Dedicated Private xbox servers is needed and I'm just wondering if an ETA or progress report has been given on this?
