  • Achievement Unlocked: Your first day…

Congratulations Survivors! You (and us too) survived a full day and night on the ARK! And what an eventful day it has been.

A lot’s been going on, and we thought it would be good to wrap up the day with a quick update regarding the state of the game and our plans over the days and weeks ahead.

Let’s discuss a few key topics: the first is no stranger to ARK games on Day One, and that’s client-side performance. Working from anecdotal feedback and hard data provided by players, we deployed a new client-side update released tonight that will improve your game's framerate. The update adds a number of optimizations and better settings assignments for each Graphics Quality mode, and you'll get an immediate gain upon trying out the new build.

Once you've got the update, please change your "Graphics Quality" setting to your preferred setting (Low/Medium/High/Epic) to take full advantage of the new under-the-hood settings. Tomorrow and into the weekend, we'll release further improvements to client performance, including generating a Pipeline State Object Cache to reduce/eliminate graphics stuttering & hitching and further optimizing the sky/cloud/atmosphere shaders. Thank you for bearing with us as the team works to ensure the game runs better for various configurations, including this first set of optimizations and the many still to come.

The second is a one-two combo: server-side stability and optimization. The team has been battling a number of never-before-seen crashes since the game went live (such is life — 1 hour of live play is equivalent to a month of internal QA). Honestly, the floodgates had opened, and at one point, servers were coming down faster than we could put them online! Thankfully, as of our latest server-side build, we’ve managed to get the servers in a much more stable state, eliminating over 95% of server crashes. There’s still more we plan to address, and you can expect more deployments to happen over the next few days to ensure as much uptime as possible and launch additional servers based on capacity needs!

As for how well the servers run, we’ve been collecting data over the last 24 hours to identify major server performance pain points. This will be a major focus for the engineering team, and we’ll be looking to introduce as many optimizations as possible. After a week or so, we plan to have a PTR branch of the game available to test out some of our riskier optimizations before we set them live to the public. But for now, we’ll continue operating from the main branch of the game as we’ve just launched and are in rapid patch mode!

And lastly, the ARK Devkit (for ASA) is now available! For those unfamiliar, the ARK DevKit is a custom version of the Unreal Engine 5 Editor that provides dedicated infrastructure to help you take your imagination into the game of ARK: Survival Ascended. The kit is available to download HERE, and we’ve got a quick FAQ you can check out HERE.

We’re really excited to get this out to you and cannot wait to see you build beyond boundaries in ARK: Survival Ascended!

This is only the beginning of ASA’s Early Access journey; there’s still much more we plan to do to the game as we develop it. This means working through the rough patches and introducing new features, content, and gameplay. We cannot wait to get all that and more in your hands. But for now, we’ll say thank you for all your feedback, support, and excitement. It’s been wonderful watching so many of you begin the first steps of your ASA adventures, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us!

    Good night! ❤️

The one issue, that really sealed the deal, that I´m clearly never going to buy ASA, even if it´s on sale is the decision to give Nitrado a monolpoly on servers.
I mean... aside from the fact that it´s still just upgraded normal Ark and the game itself lost it´s appeal.
So wake me up when Ark 2 releases in maybe.. 10 years?

    what? ....too optimistic?

ALGUNA SOLUCION??

These are just words intended to explain the desire to rob people. If this company was not a monopoly, we would have the opportunity to check whether other suppliers would have a "problem with increasing load" and whether these companies would increase prices twice compared to Nitrado

I am writing to express my heartfelt appreciation for the transparency and openness that you have demonstrated on the forums regarding the game's development challenges and the steps being taken to address them. It is truly commendable to witness your team's dedication to keeping the player community informed about the issues encountered, the fixes implemented, and the future plans for the game. Your willingness to openly discuss the game's progress and setbacks not only fosters trust but also strengthens the bond between the players and the development team. In an industry where transparency is often lacking, your approach stands out as a beacon of integrity. I believe I speak on behalf of many players when I say that we understand every game encounters challenges during development. What truly matters is the way developers handle these challenges and communicate with their player base. Your team's transparency instills confidence in us, the players, that you are actively working to make Ark Survival Ascended the best it can be. Thank you for your dedication, honesty, and hard work. Your efforts do not go unnoticed. We, the players, are grateful for the updates and insights you provide. Please continue to keep us informed about the game's progress, and rest assured that your commitment to transparency has won the respect and admiration of the entire community.

Either you are on the wrong forums and don't realize you are talking about wildcard, or you work for wildcard....or want to?   Because none of that made any sense unless its opposite day or something.

Im curious hows gonna hype will be when consone launch.

We have a very interesting situation. The entire XBOX Series X console is cheaper than a PC GPU card to make it work. If the XBOX version is playable, then say goodbye to PC... on the other hand, they can't make a poor XBOX performance, because that would be a huge failure.

I can't play. It has been so rough getting kicked out of servers every half hour, having to start over because a server that went down didn't come back up, trying to get into servers is a disaster, there's just not enough of them.

    Can anything be done?

They used that same excuse before.  But is it really necessary to triple the cost?  33 bucks a month is really steep, but thats how monopolies work I guess...

I don't believe so, no. I manage a very large server infrastructure in a managed services environment much like this. Adding RAM is pennies on the dollar compared to the total cost of the server lease from the data center. In short, doubling the RAM sure as hell doesn't double the cost of the server.

I hate to be the one to bring you back to reality here but the only thing that's been transparent is the fact that studio wildcard admitted that there are a boatload of problems that they are trying to fix that's it.

I appreciate your perspective on the situation. It's true that the developers have openly acknowledged the challenges they are facing with the game. While this might seem like a small step, in an industry where many companies choose to remain silent about their issues, this level of honesty can be considered a form of transparency. Of course, it's essential for the developers not just to admit problems but also to actively work on solving them. I believe the community is hopeful that this acknowledgment is a precursor to meaningful improvements in the game.

Still no meaningful update for console? At this point just release the single player or something. It just feels crappy not having any information or ETA. I just want to play with dinosaurs dangit!

I understand that my perspective might seem unusual, but I assure you I don't work for Wildcard or have any affiliation with them. My intention is to acknowledge the developer's transparency in admitting the issues, even though they are just at the beginning stages of addressing them. I respect your viewpoint and understand that we might see this situation differently

Admitting the issues?  Transparency?  Really?   You want to know what transparency would have been?  How about not lying to everyone about the game releasing in october?  They knew from the start the game was never going to launch to pc and console in october even though they strait up said otherwise.   They knew there was no chance of it releasing by then, and they also knew about the loophole in the contract that would get them out of losing tons of money.  That is why they never gave a solid date and instead just gave a time frame.  Have you seen all the issues people are having playing right now?  Do you honestly think they didn't know about these issues when they sent it for certification?  They knew for a fact it was going to fail cert, that whole process was just a big show they were putting on.  They think like politicians, say whatever you have to to make people happy now and then ignore them and pretend everything it perfect when the truth comes out.  Kick the can down the road, deal with the fallout later.   That is how they have been from day one.

So originally they said this game would release in August, then pushed it to October, now its November.  The next few weeks we will get a lot of "transparency"  from them about how much progress they are making and how things are on track and doing great but without ever giving a release date, they wont make a peep about the date all the way until the end of November, then they come out and say they need more time to make the game perfect and bla bla bla and say Q1 2024!  Then you wont hear much until may or june, then they will finally give a release date sometime in late june.  Will they hit that date? probably not.  You know how I know all this?  Because its the past repeating itself and because they already know this is how its going to go, they just are not going to say it until they have to because they are super "transparent" and all...

Now, would you like to talk about this super deal they struck with nitrado? The one they kept going on about how great it was?  Only it was only great for them. We are getting screwed over in that deal. sell the rights to one company, create a monopoly, make some quick cash, and we get bilked out of more money, unless you think tripling the price to us is fair?

I understand your frustration, and I appreciate your detailed perspective on the situation. It's clear that you have concerns about the transparency and decision-making process of the developers. While I can empathize with your frustration, I'd like to provide a different viewpoint on a few aspects you mentioned.

Firstly, game development is a complex process, and unforeseen issues can arise even in the final stages. Stating that something went wrong with the multiplayer component right before launch isn't uncommon in the gaming industry. Developers often encounter unexpected bugs or challenges during the testing phase, which might not have been apparent earlier.

Regarding your concerns about the game's state, it's important to note that game requirements evolve over time due to advancements in technology and game complexity. As for the issues you mentioned, like the console admin problem, it's commendable that the team acted swiftly to address it. Game stability and server performance are continuous concerns, especially with a large player base. While there's room for improvement, addressing these challenges within a short timeframe demonstrates the developers' dedication.

Regarding the deal with Nitrado, I understand your frustration with the increased costs. Monopolies often lead to higher prices for consumers, and it's unfortunate that players are bearing the brunt of this situation.

It's essential to keep providing feedback and holding developers accountable. Your passion for the game's improvement is evident, and I hope that the developers will continue to address these concerns and work towards a better gaming experience for everyone.
