    Hey Survivors! Welcome to the latest edition of the Community Crunch! :Jerbhi:

    The Community Crunch is where we share important things going on with ARK, as well as host contests and showcase creations made by the community!

    Dino TLC Preview #2!

    At the end of last year, we were very excited to share with you the early progress of our Dino TLC update. We know it's something you guys have been looking forward to for a long time, so here we are with another update!

    The plan is for the Dino TLC pass to role out in multiple phases. Throughout the next few months, some creatures will receive visual changes, as well as functional/gameplay changes. We are targeting the release of Phase 1 to take place during the week of February the 18th on PC. In addition to Dino TLC Phase 1, we will also be rolling out our turret limit to all Official Servers.

    Today, we'd like to share some more screenshots and provide some insight into what we're planning for Phase 1 of the TLC pass. We've been reading all your feedback and suggestions regarding the creatures; our artists and gameplay team have found it to be beneficial in the decision-making process. Something to keep in mind is that not all creatures will receive a visual update, but we will cover ones we feel (with your feedback) need it. Sometimes there may be function gameplay changes which weaken certain aspects of creatures; however, if we take anything away, we always plan to add to it through another dimension.

    Please remember that these are still works-in-progress (especially the fur!) and are therefore subject to change before final release, which includes both visual redesigns, as well as gameplay changes. Anywho, without further ado!

    The Direbear!

    We believe the Direbear is in relatively secure place at the moment. Though, we're still planning on making a few changes to it!

    When riding a Direbear, players will be immune to bees. They won't be able to knock you off your bear, and they will target focus the bear instead of the player.

    In addition to this change, the bear will also be able to harvest honey from wild beehives without attracting bees or hurting the hive. Plus the amount of honey it receives will be 2x the standard amount.

    The Procoptodon!

    Right now, if you're using The Procoptopdon, it's primarily for transportation. We don't see it as a highly combative mount, more so a utility creature with its fantastic jump, and ability to carry a second person.

    Here's what we're planning:

    The Procotopdon will take reduced fall damage; its carry weight will be noticeably increased, and it will gain the new ability to carry baby dinos and small creatures in its pouch.

    We figure that puts the creature in a decent spot, and the suggestion of using the pouch to carry babies was excellent, thanks /r/playARK! 

    Ah, we've forgotten something...

    Oh yeah! We're going to give it a kick! It'll be a pretty tough, and even be able to knock back some significantly large creatures! 

    The Gigantopithecus A.K.A Bigfoot!

    We had quite a few ideas pop into our heads when coming up with some additional abilities for the Bigfoot. Did it need more strength and fighting abilities? What about how well it moves? Could we provide it with some new features? Ultimately, here's what we've settled on:

    The Bigfoot will receive an armour-degrading attack; this means when it fights, it'll do more damage to your armour's durability. It is important to note that the armour-degrading attack will not affect the Yeti creatures found in the game.

    Its movement needed some work! So we'll be giving it the ability to jump, which is kinda critical, considering it will need to know how to hop on and off all the zip-lines it's going to climb! Yup, that's right. It'll be able to use zip-lines!

    In addition to those changes, we'll also be improving it's throwing ability, so it's more accurate (similarly to the Crab) and providing it with the ability to carry (on its shoulder) small creatures and throw them!

    The Direwolf!

    It's a wolf.. and what are wolves good for? Hunting. Now if you're a wolf, and you're hunting, what exactly are you going to rely on the most? Your nose!

    In Phase 1 of the update, we'll be introducing a new ability, a passive buff, as well as changing how it's howl and pack buff currently work.

    First of all, the howl will activate the pack buff for a duration of time (we're thinking 5 minutes right now). This means it won't be active all the time, but to compensate, we'll be strengthing the buff to make the wolves stronger. As a little bonus is that when the Alpha Wolf howls, so will all the others! We're also planning for this mechanic play out with wild wolves too.

    As for its nose, we're doing two things. We're providing it with a passive buff which allows it to sniff out people or creatures with less than 50% health, and this will be indicated via an icon. Think of it like the hunter's instinct.

    Secondly, we'll be giving it a 'Sniff' tertiary ability to indicate nearby explorer notes, as well as detect stealth or buried creatures.

    and finally...

    The Tyrannosaurus Rex!

    It's in a pretty strong place at the moment; it's considered one of the top-tier creatures. It is used continuously to fight bosses, as well as often seen in PVP. So we didn't want to give it too many changes to avoid making it overpowered, here's what our plan is:

    We're going to improve it's movement/climbing ability so that it doesn't get stuck behind small rocks and can climb up steeper slopes.

    We're also planning to change the Roar. When targetting an enemy and using the roar, the enemy will be forced to poop. There will be a cooldown on both the Rex and people who have recently pooped, so you can't pooplock them with 10 Rexes.

    That pretty much covers it for Phase 1 of the TLC-pass, let us know what you think, whether we're missing anything glaringly obvious! We're also planning (not definite!) on carrying out more visual changes to the following creatures: Spino, Sarco, Carno, Raptor, Female Megaloceros, Plesio, and Argie. Let us know what you'd like to see improved with those, as well as any other creatures you think may need some love that we're overlooking.

    Ragnarok!

    Console Ragnarok Fans! We are expecting to deploy the 99% completed version of the map to PS4 the week of January 15th. The Xbox patch for Ragnarok is currently in the certification process. We don't have a precise date for Xbox as we're not sure on console Cert availability, but once we do we'll let you know.

    Now let’s get to the contest!

    There were 3 potential categories for survivors to enter their shots into and they were the following:

    Three Categories

    Super Resolution: These should be taken at 8x Super Resolution. Players can optionally use Depth of Field effects accessible in Spectator mode by pressing the [Delete] key.

    Panoramic 360 Stereoscopic 3D: These should be taken at 4x Super Resolution, in 360 Stereoscopic 3D mode. We will crop them to 2D for web display, while also providing the 3D version for viewing within VR display.

    Freeform: Any settings, whacky and creative use of Ansel filters are encouraged. Adding humorous titles/captions in Photoshop is also acceptable for this category!

    all those dinos and mammals look awesome ! I'd like the same to be done on ther mosasaurus, the ichtyosaurus, the dunkleosteus and at the same time change the lieuploreudon mechanic so it could be a permanent tame, more present on the map as one of the top predators of the sea. And it would be awesome if there were an ocean food chain, with some creatures being other creatures natural preys. Also anthill, and better abilities for spiders and bats would be awesome. Thanks for these awesome news.

    1. The Rex isn't on Aberration so you literally can't compare the two :P
    2. Have you ever owned a 20/20 melee and 20/20 hp Rex? Doesn't sound like it. So maybe don't comment on it in the future, buddy ;) The Rex is borderline broken with mutations. Hitting beyond 1k damage per bite if you focus melee more than hp.

    20/20 is just the start too. Wait until you get 30 or 40 mutations in to Melee.

    I made a post like this in Game Suggestions but figured this would be a better place to share :]

    Id like to see the Dire wolf look a tad more wolf like, with less of an eyebrow shape and more rounded less sunken eyes. Also the body feels a little tall in the under belly which makes the legs look short and the dire wolf look overall a little over fed, I would make it a little bit more skinny which will in return give it a more wild look and will make the legs look a more appropriate proportion.

    The Phoenix needs some more love as well, I think it should have the ability to perch on fences, logs, and maybe even tree branches and stay there once dismounted since it cant land. It should also get more accent flame colors other then the yellow to bring in more appeal to it, and should be able to have a turret mode. It would also be awesome if the Phoenix could drop an egg once killed so it gets reborn.

    Argentavis should get more feathers around the face and head, maybe even a little more slender as well. It should overall though stay away from a vulture style as that creature is already in the game.

    Quetz could also use a slight rework, it's cowlick hairstyle is a smidgen out of place to its style.

    Hyaenodon is a little roughly detailed in the face and should have more fur on the head.

    Onyc should get an ability to cling to a players back and be used like a glider suit.

    Maybe the Thylacoleo? Just the face of it, I love the way it looks but my husband thinks the faces looks like IT(Pennywise 2017). That's all..

    IDEA for TLC:

    Boost shoulder pets weight!

    Aberration shine pets have a crazy amount of weight. I think island/SE pets should get an upscale to be at least the same as the aberration pets

    I think it would be great if all of the little creatures: Otter, Dimorphodon, Compy, Monkey, etc., and especially the Dodo got an option to pet them, and do a cute little animation!

    I would love to see an ability for the Thylo to jump over tames and dismount riders from them.... How cool would that be :)

    please rework the diplo. as it stands it's a giga snack at best and minor annoyance at worst. nobody ever even has enough tribe members on average to fully utilize the 10 person saddle. all around a bad dino. also the meso and classic shoulder mounts could use a visual update.

    Spino should knuckle-crawl like it would in real life, and be like a iguanadon where it can swap from biped to quadruped, and the back fin should be extended to start at the back of the neck and end at the tip of the tail, and please show the carno some love?

    Oh wow those new dino appearance changes look amazing!!! The Chalicotherium could do with a sound change, feel like im singing along to Snoop Dogs Drop it like its hot everytime I run around on it, cluck cluck cluck

    How about incubation chambers where you place eggs or babies, when they are ready they hatch  it takes care of them. Placeing fireplaces n air conditioning needs improved. And the incubator could have a great visual look to it. I cannot wait for the improved building mechanics bevause i tried on single to create a kingdom me n my son could joustn such but things just would not place right. Also arch ways n stairs etc could be great.

    Why don't you buff stegos by making it do more damage the more it swings its tail left and right consecutively. Also right now stegos don't do damage if they attack too fast.

    I think the Giganotosaurus should get the tlc pass posibly naking it a bit smaller or if not change the model and add new abilities.

    Hi Guys from wildcard,

     

    plz show Some love to the pachycephalosaurus , Its just to weak

    and to small, just Make it just as big as a raptor

    and give it the ability to gather berries and just Make Its skull more visable 

    and add Some Horns on that puppy Maybe remove the armor on the back , change the sounds too Make it sound more like a duck or a chicken 

    and give it Some better stats plzz

     

    And the Therizino needs Some care as well Make it have a longer neck and thinner head en Maybe do something with the beack ( and it should have been a lott taller , and add Some more feathers as well ) the Claws look diffrent as well the biggest claw should bee faceing outwards ( and also plz change the sound of this thing Make it sound more like a albatros )

    thats just all that i want!

    I love the way your revisiting the old dinos and from what you've shown us it's going really really well, keep up the good work. The one thing I've always wanted in ark is for the spino to be on its back legs like in Jurassic park 3. I've spoken about this will many of my friends and one of them came up with the idea of giving it the ability to switch just like the iguanodon.

    Everything looks great, would be really awesome if the rex got an extra feature that would somehow fit in with the monstrous bite force it had. 

    Also I hope the giga is reduced in size and is more in line with other land dinos such as rex and spino in terms of damage when it's time for its tlc, they look ridiculously big.

    Hi,
    My son Rickypedia04 and his friends would like to:

    • Give to Gigantopitecus a charged jump like the Crab

    • TRex Female has to to slightly bigger than male

    • -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    • Give to Spinosaurus statistics as TRex and to stand on only 2 feet, on 4 when running (as BossDragon)

    • Give more strength to Sarcosucus (enough for a couple to kill a TRex) and better movements and animation when swimming and running (Sarco is a little ridiculous). Give him ability to be invisible under water to both tamed and wild creatures

    • More weight and stamina for Raptor, less plumage and longer-tapered snout (head). As per wolves, give him a pack buff, ability scout like Troodon, ability to jump onto big animals, grabbing onto them  and giving them much damage. Pressing right level on xbox (C key) has to "roar" and his pack replies (as Allosaurus)

    • Change for Plesiosaurus his attack animation and give him a longer neck and ability to catch fish in surroundings (as Barionix)

    • Carnotaurus - add charged attack with horns when running (like Woolly Rhino), make it taller and his back has to be more straight = less curved, with many many spikes on his back, huge horns.  Change his calls and roar, roar played through right level on xbox (C key)

    • Give better animation to Argentavis (it seems to float on air), as it's very heavy, it has to seem to use much strength when flying; give him longer neck, thinner body, ability to locate dead or dying animals and to grab animals even when not tamed

    •  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    • Give to Spyder the ability to create and use zip lines, to create great web walls (same strength as thatch walls)

    • Sabertooth and thylacoleo: roar played through right level on xbox (C key), bite with right trigger and he harvests more meet. Left trigger scratches taking more hide (skin)

    • Give to Sabertooth statistics as Wolves

    • Ankylo should be 50% bigger

    • Give to Frog the ability to pull closer to him small animals (and humans) with his tongue

    • Diplodocus needs a secondary attach with his tail, strong as Brontosaurus.

    • Brontosaurus needs a secondary attach with his legs which stomp on the ground (as Paracer)

    • Paracer needs a secondary attach: pushing with his neck (as Diplo)

    • Give to Castoroides ability to create dams with various dimensions when tamed

    • Dilo and Packy need more speed and stamina

    • Packy has to charge (attack) when wild as when tamed

    • Questzal hat to attack dinos with low health and, when being attacked, has not to run away but attack too

    • Para needs more speed under water and please no oxygen bar (no limit)

    • Liopleurodon has to be bigger, has not to disappear when tamed (after a while) and I’d like to have no Loot booster, which I think it’s not fair, it’s too easy

    • Give more health to Megalania, more strength, speed, slightly taller and longer

    • Give to Deodicuros a saddle like Roll Rat’s

    • Re-design Mesopitecus like you did to Gigantopitecus

    • Piranha has to be less strong

    • Pulminoscorpius need stronger poison

    • Add to Trike a charged attack with horns when running (like Woolly Rhino), give him a better animation when running

    • Tamed Ravagers need to provide bleeding damage through secondary attack (scratch)

    We are aware that most of these features can be activated trough mods, but for console users (like my son and his friends) they are not available.  They think that all these improvements would be very nice to be introduced in standard console game.

    I hope this gets noticed and concidered by wild card

    There are a few dinos in my mind that should have diffrent abilities...

    spino- should be able to switch inbetween quaduped and biped, it most DEFINENTLY needs a buff... ESPECIALLY in HP... i think 700hp at lvl 1 is rediculous and should not fall back much further than a rex... it should also be able to be quicker in the water, maybe a damage buff in the water?.. the model looks great.. just needs a little bit of work.. the sail looks great tho..

    megalodon- there should be atleast a variant of the megalodon that should be conciderd "the giga of the water" where it should be extreamly big, and extreamly powerful. Megalodons in general need a larger AoE and have a sent ability, but most definantly a varient that is what a megalodon should be... i didnt find the sence in changing its sientific name to "charcaradon megalodon" to "charcharadon ultramegalodon" when ya'll just made it smaller, and weaker xD

    parasaur- should have an alarm ability

    sarco- should have a larger AoE and death role,  and should have a more stealthy roll

    carno- please... PLEASE PLEASE, bring back the old carno sound... i used to love carnos... but ever since that new sound unpdate... i just quited carnos... make the carnos intimidating again :( they should also have a torpor dealing attack and a charge that should bring up more speed overtime... but i beg.. bring the old carno sound back... or atleast make a sound that makes it intimidating again...

    argent- should have somesort of a scavanger ability,... maybe as a better locator for your dead body? Sence low health creatures and dinos?

    tape- DONT DO ANYTHING TO THE TAPE PLEASE THE TAPE IS PERFECT, THE SOUND IS BEAUTIFUL AND THE MODEL IS BEAUTIFUL

    allo- bring back the origional allo roar :/

    quetz- it looks good but make it stand straight up if it does not havd a platform saddle? Also a good hp buff as its a huge animal

    giga- i have accepted that the giga is the monster of the game, but i thought ya'll should have made up ya'lls own big monster dino, and make the giga an alternative to the rex, but the giga is perfect... dont touch it, i like having something that i shouod fear in the game..

    charcharadontosaurus?...- you have the 3 most powerfull therapods to ever exist, in the game.... add the missing 4th one? Please Dx

    Baryonyx- it should be bigger... and concidered and alternative to the spino..

    Mammoth- coupd take on a more "battle" roll..

    plessy- the face man :I 

    General... i think these larger therapods (rex, spino, giga, future charchardontosaurus ;D) should have a ramming attack, and a tail attack, and they should all be able to run and roar at the same time.. 

    i find it dumb that a bronto gives only 50 meat and a heyenadon gives 60 :/ i dont play multiplayer anymore i only play sp with higher rates but i think the people in mp would like something done with meat yeilding for it makes filling troughs a nightmare..

    wild dinos should have standards.. and actually run away when they see a huge dino commin their way.. instead of getting in the way... like the heyenodons do..

    roars should have a use in ether scaring off wild dinos, or challanging wild dinos
