Gigantophis, The Constrictor and Egg Tyrant

Recommended Posts

The snake, art, giant, fantasy, luminos, green, jungle, art edit, snake, HD wallpaper | Peakpx

Gigantophis in history was the first known sea snake. However, the Titanoboa was a constrictor snake in reality, however ark turned it into a viper. Why not flip the script?

Gigantophis would be a massive snake, outgrowing the basalisk easily. They would be found around the eggs of other wild creatures where they would attempt to consume them whole, aswell as their parents. They do not bite and wait for venom to kill, Instead they wrap around creatures and choke them to death before swallowing them whole.

Gigantophis however must defend its own eggs, leading them to hold their eggs in a special throat pouch in their gullet. Killing certain wild female specimens will lead them to drop their own eggs, allowing for taming

While tamed the possibilities are many. Being able to bypass and immobilize massive health targets with a giant constrictor snake could act as a great counter to high health targets, and a reason to pump oxygen on tames. They could carry friendly eggs, Maybe even transport mass amount of players

These massive snakes have a special taste for eggs of wyverns, leading them to be found close to their nests

WE GONNA ADD SOME COMMENT IDEAS NOW

Gigantophis may include sexual dimorphism, adding traits of horned rattlesnakes to males while keeping females fairly plain in terms of protrusions but having much more varied markings

Cerastes cerastes - Wikipedia

10 Snakes That Live in the Desert—#1 is Terrifying! - AZ Animals

Oxygen drain from constricting creatures can be toggled by radial wheel, either becoming lethal and killing the creature or being more relaxed and only knocking them out. However, this would only work on creatures sufficiently sized so as to not be crushed by the weight of the massive snake. However it would be the most efficient way to knock out these creatures

A big thing with this concept for Gigantophis is that it DOES NOT HAVE VENOM. It is purely a constrictor snake and not a viper like the in game titanoboa or basalisks. If it wants to bite something to death instead of constricting or swallowing it whole, it has to do so by slowly gnawing on a target.

Gigantophis would be able to be escaped from, both wild and tamed. Similar to hacking a Strider or playing a Mammoth's war drum saddle. Hitting these checks consistently will allow the creature or player to break free from the grip of the snake. Going faster the more damage the creature can do to it. HOWEVER, if the creature fails any checks it will lose a burst of oxygen. Causing them to suffocate even faster. That and creatures that deal recoil damage when being hurt would be TERRIFYING counters to it. Such as Kentros or the KBD Ankylosaurus

Also this is an idea from a friend but the idea of making this thing able to hold its breath for a long time, allowing it to be used as a deadly aquatic creature on other maps it may be transferred to. Choking out creatures as it drags them into the depths.

IMPORTANT
For those reading this far you've likely seen or heard of the LoadedCrysis video on this suggestion. ONLY VOTE FOR IT IF YOU LIKE IT. No one should be using their community to get a creature into the game. I'm happy that people like my idea, but I don't want a following to be the reason it gets in.

The Gigantophis is a large prehistoric snake that was nearly the size of the Titanoboa. The Gigantophis was speculated to be around 9 - 11m long (29 - 36ft) but with the discovery of more recent fossils, some have been lead to believe that it could have reached even larger lengths surpassing those of the Titanoboa. While this creature is able to constrict it's victims it often relies on a "hit and run" or "stalking" approach to things.

The creature when added to the game would be longer than the Titanoboa but not as long as the Basilisk. It would appear similar to a mix between a Desert Horned Viper with the horns above it's eyes and a Rattlesnake with a rattle on the end of it's tail similar to it's descendants (modern desert snakes) as well as the more reptile, scaly esc look to it present in both the Rattlesnake and Desert Horned Viper. Although this creature, according to paleo accuracy, did not appear this way it would be able to make it appear distinct amongst other creatures and blend and fit right in with the desolate and arid desert of Scorched Earth. (Images throughout the post)

First Image is of the paleo accurate Gigantophis:

image.jpeg.2172f7a40863dd87b4eee6cd5a19b45e.jpeg

Second and Third image are what I would think best fit it since it is being introduced into Scorched Earth (Desert Horned Viper then Rattlesnake):

image.jpeg.f379d07da0e8abeafd9912d3f1559122.jpeg

Now onto the abilities and features of this ferocious desert behemoth:

#1 - Intimidation

- This creature would be able to intimidate creatures around it buy inflicting a debuff on enemies with making smaller creatures "feared" (similar to the Yuty or Mammoth)

- The snake would coil up, point it's head towards the ground showing it's horns and rattling it's tail in order to strike fear into creatures around it. (Image below)

The beauty of the Florida wild often leaves a nasty bite | Community | vieravoice.com

#2 - Venom Bite

- When basic attacking other creatures this passive ability would affect them. This passive ability poisons the affected target similar to how the Megalania poisons it's victims.

- Although similar to Megalania ferocious bite, the Gigantophis has unique traits of it's own. The poison would do less damage towards the target at first, stacking up as time goes on while it's prey's stamina decreases at an acceding rate.

#2.5 - Venom Bite Buff (For the Gigantophis only)

- When a target has been affected by the Gigantophis's venom bite and in a certain range to it, the Gigantophis will drain stamina less quickly, be quieter and become faster wanting to catch it's prey.

#3 - Constrict

- The Gigantophis's unique anatomy allow this creature to maneuver around its prey in interesting ways. When right clicking while being aimed at an opposing tame the Gigantophis will leap forward with incredible speed latching onto it. (but costs 75% of stamina once this attack has finished) While strangling the Gigantophis will take over 2x the amount of damage it normally would making it more a tracking or ambush predator.

- Once the Gigantophis is latched onto a small creature (Iguanodon or smaller) it will coil around it's prey like most constrictors do suffocating it to it's death. When a small creature is constricted it will deal a steady 12.5% of it's health per second. And then swallow it's prey whole. When a survivor is riding a small creature being constricted that player will be knocked off of their tame and concussed (similar to the microraptor) for 9 seconds.

image.jpeg.a9b807260d5445cf63c7f2d437b09b2a.jpeg

- Once the Gigantophis is latched onto a medium creature (Stegosaurus or Mammoth to anything larger than an iguanodon) it will start coiling around the body of the creature slowly suffocating it. Unlike the small creatures this creature will be able to move but significantly slower than normal. When constricting a medium creature it will drain 6% of it's health per second. When a survivor is riding a medium creature being constricted that player will be knocked off of their tame and concussed (similar to the microraptor) for 7 seconds.

image.jpeg.e52cf0b6cb51735358856cdba8b19f67.jpeg

- Once the Gigantophis is latched onto a large creature (Rex sized etc.) it will begin to coil around it's head slowly suffocating them to their death. Unlike the other creatures, while being constricted it will be able to move at a 20% decreased speed. When a large creature is being constricted the tame will be able to attack every 2.5 seconds to attempt to shove the Gigantophis off it. If a survivor is riding a large mount while latched onto they will not be dismounted and can only attack with their tame every 2.5 seconds. While the Gigantophis is constricting an opponent it will be forced off once the opposing creature has lost 35% of their health and won't be able to constrict again for another 45 seconds. When a large creature is being constricted it will be dealt a 2.5% of it's health every second.

image.jpeg.650444a89c3541cc5a563f2f087fc56f.jpeg

#4 - Bury

- If you hold ctrl while standing still with the Gigantophis it will bury itself in the ground only having it's head peaking out of the ground. If mounted the players FoV will be reduced significantly and will get "dirt or sand" all over their screen. While a Gigantophis is using it's bury ability it won't be able to be detected by turrets, spyglasses or anything similar to that. You can have your Gigantophis bury when unmounted similar to the Purlovia and Reaper but it can't attack while buried.

Cerastes cerastes, or Saharan horned viper, is easily recognised by the presence of a pair of supraocular "horns", although hornless individuals do occur. They are typically ambush predators, lying submerged in sand

Taming:

The Gigantophis could be tamed in one of 2 ways

#1 - Many giant female Gigantophis's would be protecting their nests and eggs from intruders. You would have to either kill the mothers and steal their eggs or run in and attempt to grab one before they can get to you... (like Rock Drakes and Wyverns)

Snake Nest Removal - OMNIS Pest Control

image.jpeg.ac045abd23cbeb592589a7bd52cd50c3.jpeg

or

#2 - You would have to find a lone Gigantophis and sacrifice you own creatures to it to gain it's trust and tame it. (similar to the Troodons)

And that is it for my Gigantophis Creature Submission for the ASA Scorched Earth map! I hope you enjoyed this concept and if you have any suggestion (whether it be the Gigantophis being to strong or weak or anything else) please leave it below and add your ideas for the Gigantophis below as well!

I love everything about this, but feel like a mode should be optional via the radial wheel. it would make the snake not swallow the prey, and instead of dealing dps, it would drain the oxygen. once the oxygen is at 0, the prey would become unconscious, and would start taking damage due to lack of oxygen (this would not effect tame multiplier until after 10% of health is gone). This would allow for a new method of taming and I feel like could be a great implication.

That actually is an awesome idea that could be added with it, kind if allowing it to have pve use as well.

Ya after thinking about it and I'm gonna edit it out later today, scrapping the venom is a good idea. Although the sexual dimorphism is a neat touch and having the constricted creature able to break free is cool too. Perhaps boosting its oxygen stat would make it so the constricted creature would have to struggle longer to get out.

Although in my previous suggestion I think that having a bury ability to allow it to sneak up and constrict unsuspecting prey eould be neat to incorporate. And since it would require to be buried underground (or in this case sand) it may also be a sufficeint underwater creature as well (maybe on community maps) allowing it to traverse well underwater as stated in your first idea. (But wouldn't be able to constrict underwater or at least not as powerful). But I do really love the second idea you have as it is a much improved version than my own.

*Note* I will be posting an updated and more balanced idea for the Gigantophis incorporating both of our ideas into one well though out creature making it into a more stealthy and opportunistic creature unseen in the game before and having it also have a pve part of its kit as well. And if there are any suggestions you have it would be awesome if you could let me know.

Hey LadyMiko idk if you are even paying attention to my comments but if you are then we both wanna see this creature come to the game. So I was (if u want) that we could maybe either edit the title to make it seem more appealing or could have the title at the beginning with either "New Ideas" or "Improved Ideas" or seyhing like that I guess.

Well hope this magnificent beast makes it in!

"I think I've come up with good idea for the Gigantophis. Similar to other ideas it would be able to bury underground allowing it to move at a slower rate (40% speed decrease and can aim its constrict its ability while underground) It could have a constrict ability (holding ctrl and right clicking to constrict the target) where it would target a creature and constrict it. (Could attack on the surface or when buried with a bury ability) There would be three modes to the constrict ability which could be changed by holding Ctrl and right click, these three modes are:

- Killing mode (depletes the constricted creatures oxygen doing damage)
- Immobilise mode (simply wraps around the creature stopping it from being able to move or attack for a duration allowing the survivor to kill or tranquillise it themselves.
- Knockout mode (depletes the constricted creatures oxygen until it goes unconscious and then let's go.

The way the creatures get strangled are similar to other suggestions for this creature.

I also agree with the first idea where it shouldn't have venom or poison and be a purely constrictor based creature.

I think this idea is cool but definitely adds  alot to the creature

Here's a thought have the Gigantophis's be almost like a tek strider having different heads and different tails that fan very from creature to creature

Maybe one is like a constrictor and has a suffocating attack

Maybe one is more like a viper and poisons and has a faster attack

One can be more like a rattlesnake, buries its body and uses his tail to lewers in animals, has a stealth mode

Idk there's a lot that could be implemented into a modular snake 🐍 love the tail tho 🤪

this is an amazing idea. I think it would be cool if it also had a rattle ability (similar to a roar). And have the lewer ability.

I feel as though this is a very redundant creature idea, we already have two egg eating snakes with one being rideable. As much as I think a giant constrictor would be cool I feel as though it’s better suited for a Titanoboa TLC rather than it’s own creature, Gigantophis would be better for an ocean environment as well. There’s some good ideas but I feel as though it’s too similar to creatures already in the game.
