Congratulations Survivors! You (and us too) survived a full day and night on the ARK! And what an eventful day it has been. A lot’s been going on, and we thought it would be good to wrap up the day with a quick update regarding the state of the game and our plans over the days and weeks ahead. Let’s discuss a few key topics: the first is no stranger to ARK games on Day One, and that’s client-side performance. Working from anecdotal feedback and hard data provided by players, we deployed a new client-side update released tonight that will improve your game's framerate. The update adds a number of optimizations and better settings assignments for each Graphics Quality mode, and you'll get an immediate gain upon trying out the new build. Once you've got the update, please change your "Graphics Quality" setting to your preferred setting (Low/Medium/High/Epic) to take full advantage of the new under-the-hood settings. Tomorrow and into the weekend, we'll release further improvements to client performance, including generating a Pipeline State Object Cache to reduce/eliminate graphics stuttering & hitching and further optimizing the sky/cloud/atmosphere shaders. Thank you for bearing with us as the team works to ensure the game runs better for various configurations, including this first set of optimizations and the many still to come. The second is a one-two combo: server-side stability and optimization. The team has been battling a number of never-before-seen crashes since the game went live (such is life — 1 hour of live play is equivalent to a month of internal QA). Honestly, the floodgates had opened, and at one point, servers were coming down faster than we could put them online! Thankfully, as of our latest server-side build, we’ve managed to get the servers in a much more stable state, eliminating over 95% of server crashes. There’s still more we plan to address, and you can expect more deployments to happen over the next few days to ensure as much uptime as possible and launch additional servers based on capacity needs! As for how well the servers run, we’ve been collecting data over the last 24 hours to identify major server performance pain points. This will be a major focus for the engineering team, and we’ll be looking to introduce as many optimizations as possible. After a week or so, we plan to have a PTR branch of the game available to test out some of our riskier optimizations before we set them live to the public. But for now, we’ll continue operating from the main branch of the game as we’ve just launched and are in rapid patch mode! And lastly, the ARK Devkit (for ASA) is now available! For those unfamiliar, the ARK DevKit is a custom version of the Unreal Engine 5 Editor that provides dedicated infrastructure to help you take your imagination into the game of ARK: Survival Ascended. The kit is available to download HERE, and we’ve got a quick FAQ you can check out HERE. We’re really excited to get this out to you and cannot wait to see you build beyond boundaries in ARK: Survival Ascended! This is only the beginning of ASA’s Early Access journey; there’s still much more we plan to do to the game as we develop it. This means working through the rough patches and introducing new features, content, and gameplay. We cannot wait to get all that and more in your hands. The Island is released now, with the subsequent expansion worlds to be added at no additional cost on a regular basis. Console Survivors, Last night, while continuing our internal quality assurance process for ASA, our team identified some critical issues in the multiplayer version of the game that would have had major implications for the console versions of the game. Unfortunately, due to these issues, we’ve decided to delay the launch of the Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game until November. We understand that this news is disappointing, and trust us, we’re disappointed too. The team really did aim to get everything out for all platforms in October, but we fell short just at the finish line. We’re sorry about that, as we know a lot of you have been very excited about this launch and made plans around it. Next steps? As of now, we’re working on two tracks. One track is managing the launch of PC, and the other track is preparing a patch for the game's console version with the latest content/gameplay updates and fixes. The additional time lets us resolve those specific multiplayer issues and bring the game up to the PC specification, which received a number of critical improvements as the console versions were going through certification. We’re still planning to keep crossplay between Steam and Consoles disabled until we’ve entered the quicker certification process, but that decision could change based on how things are looking with PC at the time. The added benefit of this change is that it also enables us to ensure a smoother console launch as we’ll have fought many of the initial fires with PC and have a more content-rich and stable modding experience that has been battle-tested when the game becomes available on consoles. Finally, when the console is ready to be released, a fresh set of Official Servers will go online with bonus rates (for a period of time) to allow you to catch yourself up in preparation for Crossark. We know that this news is far from ideal, however we’ll be doing our best to make the game as good as it can be when it launches in November. As we stand on the horizon between the ending of an era and the dawn of the next, we'll take a moment to reflect on the extraordinary journey we've shared. You’re the beating heart of our “little” dinosaur game. Some might consider the upcoming transition a bittersweet occasion punctuated by a sense of loss and sadness. We feel otherwise. Unofficial ASE is in great hands. Yours. But, as one chapter concludes, another unfolds – and again our stories will mix with yours to create something greater than the sum of two parts. Remember, it's not farewell, it’s “see you real soon” with more ASA news, reveals, gameplay and, ultimately, the launch of ARK: Survival Ascended near the end of October! With heartfelt gratitude and dino-sized enthusiasm, The Studio Wildcard Team Download in full resolution Species: Shastasaurus carmentellum Time: Late Triassic Diet: Carnivore Temperament: Curious This odd variant of Shastasaurus seems as curious about humans as its distant relative Ichthyosaur. It sure got my attention when one of these sea monsters swam up to have a look at me! Luckily, its bulk turns out to be worse than its bite. Shastasaurus has weaponized the ultrasonic chirps it uses for echolocation. It can focus those sounds into a tight cone that disorients prey, or widen the effect to blast apart a school of fish in a concussive wave. Taming a Shastasaurus was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I brought along some Ichthyosaur pals to entertain their larger cousin while I scraped some of its itchy barnacles off with a sickle. From then on, I had a gigantic escort in deep water. Some tribes manage to kit out their finny friend with a periscope, torpedo bays, and even a cargo hold… Those Shastasaurs end up looking like something from the old kids’ cartoon with cavemen who turned dinos into cars and submarines! Hey Survivors! We’re going to recap some of the information we’ve shared regarding ARK: Survival Ascended in this crunch, along with touching on some topics that haven’t been covered and expanding on some that have! If you’ve been following along for the last few months, you might already know some of this information, but we’ve seen a lot of questions lately, so let’s start with the basics before diving into some of the more frequently asked questions from the community. IF YOU ALREADY KNOW ABOUT ASA, FEEL FREE TO SKIP THIS BIT :-)... What is ASA? ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA) is a next-generation remake of our beloved ARK: Survival Evolved, harnessing the power of Unreal Engine 5. When is it launching? The launch is just around the corner! We’ll reveal the launch trailer screenshots and set the game live at the end of October. Where can you play it? You’ll be able to play ARK: Survival Ascended on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, and PC (Windows/Steam). Why are you doing it? There are various reasons we’ve decided to take this approach. One is to refine the development team’s skills on UE5 and how far it can be pushed for next-generation titles (ARK 2).. Another factor is for business reasons. Developing a next-generation sequel while no longer releasing paid expansion packs has proven difficult for our Studio’s long-term survival, so we need to continue generating revenue while we develop ARK 2. And finally, the ultimate reason: whereas ARK2 is being designed as a Souls-like adventure, we want to provide the community with an evergreen classic-ARK experience, one that can continue to grow over time on a cleaned-up code base, leveraging new technological advancements not only in the industry but also what we’ve been working on with the ARK Franchise as a creative whole. How are you leveraging the new technology? Another question could result in quite a mouthful of a response, so we’ll try to keep it simple. Here’s what’ll be coming with ASA: ARK’s codebase has been rewritten, and its artwork recreated by hand to take full advantage of Unreal Engine 5, including its Lumen and Nanite systems. Advanced graphics features such as dynamic water (Custom FluidNinja integration), complete interactive physical foliage, and more systems to create a beautiful, immersive, next-generation experience. Cross-platform Modding: we’re working with Overwolf to provide an industry-first cross-platform modding experience, where mods created on PC are delivered directly to your consoles from a custom modding backend and in-game user mod browser. The modding capability for creators includes using the full power of Unreal Engine 5, including Blueprint, to create anything, any kind of new content or gameplay, within ARK. Full Cross-platform Multiplayer New content, QOL improvements, balance, and gameplay changes, including but not limited to: Over time we’ll be releasing 11 Brand-new creatures (More than any previous DLC expansions) New mini-map system (pan, zoom, pings, etc.) New structures (display cases, smaller TEK Teleporters, building pieces) & major building-system overhaul New Gameplay Items Dynamic navigation mesh and creature pathfinding overhaul (AI pathfinding) Total UI Revamp Photo Mode New camera systems for players and dinos, with the option to revert to the old systems. New Player Character Assets with Revamped and Improved Customization Gamepad virtual-cursor UI input system New Dino-Manager system (view the real-time status and track-locations of all your creatures at will through one unified menu) … and much more! A key thing to remember is that ARK: Survival Ascended will include all its previously released DLCs and maps in its remastered form and will have its own content roadmap. This will include new story content for the game, its own gameplay/QOL changes, new DLC, seasonal events, and more (some things we’re not quite ready to talk about yet!) Alrighty, it’s safe to start reading again! Q: Will there be a preorder? Get access to the game early? Exclusive Content? Pre-loading? We aren’t planning on making ARK: Survival Ascended available for pre-order. You can purchase the game towards the end of October when we reveal the trailer and related media. There are no plans to allow anyone to access the game early; you will all have access to it at the same time, and no intentions to release exclusive content only available at launch. As we intend to set the game live immediately when it’s ready to purchase, you cannot preload it. Q: Tell us more about Crossplay? How will that work? Okay, so we will have a 3-phase system for rolling out crossplay. This is because it allows us to iterate more rapidly after launching a fresh title and makes managing our operations much less complicated, allowing us to deliver you a better experience. Also, we’re waiting for updates on the engine/plugin side to enhance the experience further ;). Phase 1: Launch - Time Frame: October TLDR: Crossplay will be enabled for Xbox Series X/S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5. Crossplay will not work for Steam PC at launch. Why? Frankly, when we launch the game, we’ll have to patch a lot because you’re going to find things we missed or break the game in ways we never identified, and we’d prefer to be able to patch the Steam platform very quickly to resolve these issues. Once the game has passed the launch hurdles and has entered a more stable state, certifying builds on other platforms will be much quicker, and so, at that point, we’ll look into enabling full crossplay. We’ll split Official Servers between the respective ‘crossplay’ platforms. We also intend to host some servers that are crossplay only between Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 to keep out the PC Master Race folks (namely, so you stop asking us about it on Twitter (X) :)) Phase 2: Full Crossplay - Time frame December (This is a Wildcard ETA ;)) TLDR: Crossplay is now enabled for ALL PLATFORMS. Meaning Steam can play with Xbox and vice versa. At this point, we will be at a stage where the game can fully enable crossplay for all platforms. So we'll be merging the PC Steam network with the specific "Xbox, Playstation, and Windows" network. What this means is that we’ll be aiming to patch all platforms simultaneously and keep them running on the same version, and it is at this point Steam users will be able to play on the same servers as their console friends directly. This applies to both Official and Unofficial servers, but don’t worry; we’ll still have a separate Official network online that is restricted to just Xbox and PlayStation users (without PC)! Phase 3: Cross Progression - Time frame: 2024 Cross Progression isn’t going to be enabled with Full Crossplay because we’ll need to integrate some forthcoming updates to the Epic Online Services system. We don’t have an exact timeframe for that because it’s out of our control, and the integration may take some time. Plus, we’re still working out the kinks for how we intend to enable cross-progression for existing accounts, so we’ll share more on that later. Q: What changes have been made to servers? So we’ve made a few changes to servers, first of all we’ve increased the stasis-replication range for structures (significantly) and dinos, by about +70%. This means you’ll be able to see them from further way before they “de-render”. Additionally, we’ll be making use of instanced rendering for all our structure tilesets (think building pieces), meaning bases are going to run a lot better! At the moment, we’re still keeping the servers capped at 70 players. With a lot of the other changes we’ve made, we’ve had to make some trade-offs and right now the tech (nor hardware) isn’t quite there yet to increase the slot cap much higher. We’ll be evaluating this over time and see whether we can increase it as further engine upgrades and optimizations' come through (either via Epic or us). Of course, player-run unofficial servers can increase to 100+ players, and that is highly viable if they reduce the stasis-replication range or lower the maximum dino counts. Q: What content changes have been made for Day 1? Caves, Rafts, Cryopods, TEK, Giant Squirrels…? This is a hot topic, and we wanted to clarify our intentions, but we wouldn’t be surprised if some things have slipped through the cracks. Generally, we intend to release content based on the map it launched with. It doesn’t matter WHEN it launched; for example, the Rafts will be available on Day One and the Rhyniognatha on The Island; however, TEK creature variants and Cryopods will not be available. We have done a pass on caves with some balance adjustments to choke points and improved the caves' internal appearance. We were hesitant to make dramatic changes to cave balance as, while the meta in ASE had flaws, we didn't feel a complete overhaul was wise. Between these changes and other adjustments throughout the game, we expect to see some shifts in the meta players create. We plan to monitor the impact of these moving parts in the hands of thousands of players and pivot as needed post-launch. Honestly, there are a fair number of changes on the gameplay side: Overhauled Building Disabled leveling of movement speed on creatures and players on Official Network (Unofficials can change this via config, of course) -- we see the conversations, we already did it a while back 😜 Small Dino QOLs Breeding Changes This one sounds scary, we know. Our Product and QA teams were freaking out about it, but generally, our intention hasn’t been to change the strength of creatures but to make the implementation cleaner. Previously, mutations were based on a creature's wild stat multiplier, and now we’ve given it its multiplier. This has led to some creatures receiving some buffs/nerfs in particular stats, but we intend to rebalance this over time as we evaluate their roles in the meta. We’ll want your feedback on that :). We have NOT FIXED getting more than 20 mutations, but we removed the 255 cap so that servers can specify a cap. We’ll leave it as is for our Officials (255), but it’s open to adjustments. Of course, these examples don't cover everything you can expect to see redesigned in ASA. We could wax lyrical about the environment, water, sky, and how adorable wild babies are...but we'll let the game speak a thousand words really soon! Q: Character Creation Overhaul It was paramount to our art team that we overhaul the Character Creation system for ASA so that characters looked less survival-jank. And we successfully did that….but then we decided to say screw it and allow you to mess with all the bones and scalers anyway. So yeah, you can make something that feels nice and polished, or you could choose to make a character of questionable proportions that looks like it belongs to ARK: Survival Evolved (but next-gen). Q: Is there new Gareth Coker music? Sorry, in main menu, can't hear you over the new Gareth Coker music Q: DLSS, RTXDI, and FRAMEGEN. We’re working very closely with Nvidia on all the things. They’re actually in our game code themselves, doing all the things. You can read more about these systems on their site: https://blogs.nvidia.com/, but our goal is to launch with as much as we can or have it shortly after that. Q: Unreal Engine 5.2? Why not 5.3? Unreal Engine 5.3 is a relatively recent release, and we’ve been keeping up with all the changes that Epic is working on. It’s too soon for us to integrate it thoroughly, and quite frankly, quite risky so close to launch. For now, we’ve decided to cherry-pick some things from 5.3 that we like (such as Navmesh improvements, as well as the landscape), and over time, we’ll continue to upgrade the entire engine to 5.3 and beyond. Q: GAMEPLAY WHEN? You will 100% be able to see the game via a trailer/screenshots before you purchase the game in October. Not getting any more specific than that Q: What about cheaters? We will still be working with an anti-cheat for ASA. We won’t be sharing any more information about Anti-Cheat as it doesn’t benefit anyone to do so. This anti-cheat will also work cross-platform, and we intend to create more systems to use in our live operations to battle against cheaters… which, again, we won’t talk much about because it’s better if we keep that close to our chest :). We’ll be doing another bounty program with ASA, so you can look forward to making some money while making hackers cry as they lay in bed alone, with their parents disappointed in them. Q: The Survival of the Fittest 5.0? So, we’re going back to the name SOTF. It felt easier to say than TSOTF, but more importantly, SOTF will not be available at launch. We still intend to do it, but we’re putting all our time, resources, energy, sweat, and blood into remastering the game to make it as good as possible. After launch, we’ll be tackling remastering SOTF (as an in-game downloadable Mod) for a Winter Release! Q: With no SOTF, will there still be a queue? There will not be a queue system at launch, given that we intended to have it implemented with SOTF. We’re still weighing up the technicalities of implementing this and whether it’s worth it for the game -- depends on the direction we take SOTF -- but we hear the concerns about “queue botting”, and will make sure that it’s a server-side configurable that can be disabled (and will be on our Official PvP servers) as well as implement measures to prevent this (such as blocking from the same connection, hardware, etc). Q: Events? Extra Life? ASA Content! Yes, we’ll still be doing these. The first ASA event will be Extra Life, bonus rates ‘n all dat jazz, and then we’ll be doing our first content-related event in December with the launch of Winter Wonderland! And just as mentioned above, ASA has its own content roadmap, but it’s too soon to talk about that ;). Q: Creature Submissions, what’s the plan? Honestly, it’s taken us so long to get the Shasta dossier done because of the design and tech investigation required to ensure it was viable for us to create that creature’s abilities without destroying the game. It’s a challenge, but we’re getting it done. This kind of threw a spanner in our calendar for doing creature votes. We might take a break because voter fatigue is creeping in. Plus, once ASA ships, the meta might establish a need for different types of creatures, and we want to give you some time before the next vote to think about that. Q: Developer Q&As, blogs, vlogs, streams, etc. We have intentionally been very quiet the last year as we’ve worked aggressively on shipping ASA; once the game is out the door, we intend to do a 180 and will become more directly engaged with the community (we’ve been reading and monitoring throughout, trust). This could include more Q&As, streams, etc., but the general idea is that our quiet days are ending with the launch of ASA and then you get to see directly what we’re cooking up! Survivors, After much deliberation, we’ve decided to delay the launch of ARK: Survival Ascended to later this year and ship the title on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC in October 2023. We’ve found it challenging working with Unreal Engine 5.2, but at the same time, it is incredibly exciting. We’re discovering new ways each day to push the technology to the next level; combined with the work needed to support a fully cross-platform-moddable game ecosystem on consoles and PC, it’s clear that we’ll need a bit more time. We’ve also decided to separate the release date of The Island and Scorched Earth. With what we’ve learned about remastering The Island from the ground-up, it wouldn’t be feasible to complete Scorched Earth to a standard we’re happy with. So for now, we’re going to plan that Scorched Earth will be coming to ASA in December this year, Ragnarok and Aberration will follow in Q1 2024, and the rest of the maps beyond then. Given the news: ARK: Survival Ascended will now be launching at an Early Access price point of $44.99 with a launch-discount bringing it to $39.99. We had initially planned to ship with more content on Day One, but that won’t be happening, so we’re adjusting the launch price accordingly. We know you really want to get your hands on ASA, and we appreciate that support and enthusiasm. We’re going to do our best to work hard to make sure that we can deliver a tremendous next-gen ARK experience that meets both your expectations and our own. That covers the big news; we know there’s still a fair bit of time between now and the launch, so hang in there; it’ll be worth the wait! In the meantime, here are some answers to questions we’ve seen come up over the last few weeks as well as address some new points. When will we see gameplay? We know you’re excited, curious, and skeptical; we understand. Our plan is to show gameplay close to the launch of ASA, as that’ll be when it’s completely ready and best represent the final product, so you’ll have to stay tuned until then. Is there going to be a change to the date when ARK:SE’s Official Network comes offline? We’re now planning on shutting down the Official Network on September 30th, given the slight delay in the launch of the game. When will we be able to access our save files? We’re currently working with Nitrado to make sure that the save files system works, and we’ll be providing instructions on how you can get them when they’re available. Our intention is to take multiple saves at different times, so you can choose which is most relevant to you. With Scorched Earth being delayed, will there still be server transfers? We won’t be supporting Server Transfers at the launch of ARK: Survival Ascended; this feature will become enabled when Scorched Earth releases in December. How long should we expect the title to be in ‘Early Access’? ARK: Survival Ascended will leave Early Access in late 2024 once all the content has finished its next-generation remastering. Are there going to be any changes to the release order of certain content? Generally, we will keep the canonical maps released in the same order. We may make some adjustments with some of the non-cannon maps and release them sooner, but that honestly depends more on our pipeline, so we’ll announce them accordingly. Will we be seeing more ASA concepts? Yep! We intend to keep showing you guys progress on the visual changes between ARK:SE and ASA in the lead-up to the game's launch. What about creature votes? They’ll be continuing to run! In fact, the team has been working on the design for the Gigantoraptor from a conceptual point of view, as well as the actual gameplay mechanics, and we can’t wait to show that to you in the weeks ahead! Download in full resolution Species: Dreadnoughtus recalcitrans Time: Late Cretaceous Diet: Herbivore Temperament: Territorial Dreadnoughtus was a newly-described fossil genus in my day, named for the idea that it was so large it must’ve had nothing to fear in its own time. The current species does its namesake proud, and may even be able to defy the Titans ruling our post-apocalyptic world. A big believer in picking on creatures its own size, Dreadnoughtus will ignore anything smaller than a Spinosaur to focus on larger threats. It absorbs the fury of incoming attacks to charge up its uncanny, Element-disrupting bellow. Even then, this bruiser shows extraordinary patience, waiting until the last possible moment to come roaring back. Once tamed, Dreadnoughtus will gladly shoulder your heaviest artillery and carry it -- and you -- into battle, on a platform big enough to earn that ‘dreadnought’ name. Your walking war-machine will swallow boulders (or cannonballs!) to spit back up as acid-coated ammo. If you’re going to war with Titans, it just makes sense to recruit a titanic creature with a grudge against them. We eliminated 95% of join errors for the official network on PC and Xbox this week and have a patch for Windows coming in the near future. If you historically encountered an error with 'unet' in the title and a slew of server information, rest assured that’s now solved! The client-server list is currently not always updating server population. What does this mean for you? You may be attempting to join a full server that displays at, say, 64/70, to no avail. We're working on addressing it as soon as possible. Some players have misunderstood the new Auto Join feature as a Queue system. To clarify, it is not a queue but rather a tool that allows you to automatically attempt reconnection to a server, particularly useful when the server you're on is full. It operates similarly to manually joining but aims to streamline the process and save you clicks. However, you can still opt to join manually if you prefer. As far as requests for more Official servers go, we plan to roll out some more new servers on our Official Network as we assess stability, capacity, and demand. And, of course, we will add more fresh console servers with boosted rates to help players catch up when PlayStation drops! We’ll continue to iterate on performance, crashes, bugs, exploits, etc, as we navigate early post-launch LiveOps and stay informed about our ongoing progress via the patch notes. The creativity and resourcefulness of Survivors, both old and new, as they find new homes on the Island has been truly inspiring. The content and experiences you've been sharing with us are, as always, beyond anything we could anticipate! Don’t get me wrong -- this theropod will use its sharp claws and surprising speed to defend its young when threatened. But Gigantoraptor has a soft heart for young ones -- it’ll even take in the orphaned babies of rival species. Now for the bad news: to my knowledge, no one’s been able to figure out how to tame an adult Gigantoraptor – its unique disposition seems resistant to behavioral conditioning. However, Survivors bolder than me were able to sneak into nests to win the trust of their young, and they claim that reward is well worth the risk. Once matured to adulthood, your tamed Gigantoraptor will happily look after any of your tribe’s young creatures, nurturing them and teaching them how to fight. It can even use its call to help you find orphaned baby animals out in the wild. If you bring those orphans home, then your Gigantoraptor will happily add them to its brood. Gigantoraptor forms an inseparable bond with its young charges. Bring them into a fight together and they will defend each other, and your tribe, far more effectively than when apart.

Hey survivors! We're here with a quick update on some of the top priorities keeping us busy in the trenches throughout early 2024. As always, a smooth and enjoyable ARK experience is our main goal, and we're laser-focused on tackling three key areas: 1. Server Performance: We hear you loud and clear on server performance. We're relentlessly optimizing the server infrastructure to ensure silky-smooth gameplay. Expect continued improvements throughout January, and know that we're constantly monitoring and tweaking to make the Official Network stable. 2. Exploits and Hacks: No one enjoys being disrupted by unfair play. We're actively battling exploits and hacks with a vengeance, deploying new detection and prevention measures at a frequent and regular cadence. We'll keep you posted on our progress, and remember, report any violations to the Code of Conduct to our enforcement team here. Your reports are invaluable in keeping ARK a fair and enjoyable experience for all. 3. Network Movement: Improving network movement for both characters and dinos is a top priority. Expect continued improvement throughout the month of January and going forward. Full server transfers on official servers across all platforms will be enabled on the 24th January. Once enabled, players will be able to download items and creatures onto the map without restriction. We will also launch some fresh non-transfer Official PvP servers at this time and we’ll share more info on those prior. We're thrilled to announce that a SOTF dev kit update will be released by mid next week. Craft custom arenas, create devious new battle-royale style game modes, and sculpt the ultimate battlegrounds where your fellow ARK survivors will fight to see who will be the ultimate survivor! We appreciate your patience while we worked to launch ARK: Survival Ascended on PlayStation. In our last announcement, we were expecting a launch date in Early December, but we are thrilled to announce that the launch date has been set for this Thursday, November 30th at 9:00 AM Pacific. Similar to other console launches, the new set of Official Servers will not go online until a few hours after the launch to allow ample time for downloading. This will ensure everyone has a fair chance to join the game and experience ARK: Survival Ascended. The new Official Servers will also go online with bonus rates (for a period of time) to allow for everyone to catch up. Hear the Deathworms tremble as they will no longer be the only ones dominating the sands of Scorched Earth when Fasolasuchus makes its grand entrance on ARK: Survival Ascended. This giant sand-dweller will surely change the power dynamic of Scorched Earth. Speaking of new creatures, don't forget to vote for Ragnarok's Community Creature before the vote closes on June 19th! Download in full resolution Common name: Fasolasuchus Species: Fasolasuchus sabulonatator Time: Late Triassic Diet: Carnivore Temperament: Aggressive (Ambusher) This wasteland’s full of surprises, and not exactly the good kind. There’s something out here that looks like Fasolasuchus, if those proto-crocs could swim through sand like water… These beasts might pop up suddenly to ambush you, or swim around you fast enough to catch you in a sand-whirlpool. I can't stress enough how dangerous this deathtrap can be! Plus their tails are strong enough to whip up sand to blind predators and prey alike. If you can help it, I recommend staying clear of those spikes. I think they’ve got acid glands at the base of their spiny fins, and in their mouths as well. Their caustic bite seems to melt through the thickest hide. One of these monster sand-swimmers would make a great mount, but good luck slowing down something that can shrug off most narcotics. You could try softening one up with explosives, grabbing a spike, and steering it into a rock… But you’d have to be a bit mental to try. I imagine the adrenaline junkies able to tame a Fasolasuchus would earn themselves a formidable ride through these scorching sands. They seem to have adapted to fighting larger prey, so I'd advise any faso-rider to steer clear of packs of smaller creatures that can swarm over its defenses. It's a heated race to close out the Community Creature Vote and determine which entry will be crowned the winner! You still have the weekend to vote for which creature will be added to Ragnarok for ARK: Survival Ascended! The second round of voting ends on June 19th at 4 PM Pacific. Let’s Raptor pounce right into our plans for Jan 31st that will ignite your creativity and fuel your adventures: We’re excited to announce a date for the upgraded ARK Development Kit with an eye-catching side-scroller mod example. On Jan 31st, we’ll be releasing an update to the development kit that provides more ways to bend ARK to your imagination, with features that were previously locked away now at your fingertips! Here's a work-in-progress sneak peek of our upcoming two-player side-scroller example mod. The simple game framework uses no gameplay code from ARK: Survival Ascended, and has been stripped down to the foundational Unreal classes, so anything you could do in Unreal Engine 5. You'll have the ability to create your own unique games, and they could be released on ARK, changing as much or as little as you'd like! We're introducing an upgraded cosmetics system, letting players forge their own visual masterpieces for structures, costumes, and more. Best of all, they can be used on any server without the need for the servers to download a mod. It can all happen under the hood of your client, including on Official Servers! So decorate your bases and suit up how you'd like! In a later update, these custom visuals will automatically download in the background while you explore, so get ready to discover fresh surprises on structures, items, and characters every time you venture around the ARK! Spice things up with our brand-new premium mod initiative, launching on January 31st! These high-quality mods, moderated by CurseForge and Wildcard, look to add a whole new layer of excitement to your ARK experience. ARK: Survival Ascended is now live on Xbox and Windows PC! The first set of ARK: Survival Ascended Cross-Platform Mods are ready to download, bringing a universe of new possibilities to your ARK adventure!

What a whirlwind of a week it's been for both our team and all of you. We've ridden the exhilarating highs of ASA's PC release, watching it claim the top spot on the Steam charts, and we've ridden the rollercoaster of post-launch LiveOps with its share of hitches and victories. On the flip side, there's no denying the disappointment accompanying the delay of ASA's console launch. We felt it, too. Let’s get straight into the console news: Xbox Series X/S and Windows: We’re on track for a November 14th (Tuesday) launch day! As we get closer to the launch, we’ll share more information on precisely when it should be available for you to download. The Xbox version will be up-to-spec with the latest PC functionality as of Nov 14, and will launch directly into crossplay with the PC version (along with new servers, including Xbox-only servers). Playstation: We’re hoping to have a more precise date to share with you soon as we’re currently finalizing this with Sony, but it is slated for the end of November. We know this isn’t ideal, but we’re optimistic we’ll be able to share a date very soon! Following the PC launch and the information and data we’ve gathered, we’ve decided to make some changes to our plans for the console launch. Here’s how everything is going to shake up: Xbox Launch Cross-platform with Steam will be enabled Day One. We’ll be onlining a new set of Official Servers for the respective game modes (PVP, PVE, and Small Tribes). These servers will be running boosted rates for a period of time to allow players starting on them to catch up. Our hope is to synchronize the rates by mid-December. We’ll also be onlining our first set of console-specific servers at this moment so that players who do not want to play on crossplay can play on those PlayStation Launch Cross-platform with Steam and Xbox will be enabled Day One We’ll be onlining another new set of Official Servers for the respective game modes (PVP, PVE, and Small Tribes). These servers will be running with even higher boosted rates for a period of time to allow players starting on them to catch up. Our hope is to synchronize the rates by mid-December. We’ll also be onlining an additional set of console-specific servers with higher rates that will get synchronized by mid-December Of course, there have been a few bumps along the way, and we're working hard to address any issues that players are reporting. We’ve put out a record number of patches this week, but the patches can be summarized as Bug fixes: We've fixed a number of bugs, including server crashes, dino spawn issues, and mesh exploits. Performance improvements: We've made a number of performance improvements, including optimizing the dynamic navmesh system, server code (80%+ reduction in out-of-memory issues), and foliage. We're also pleased to announce that we've significantly reduced server RAM usage. This should improve the player experience and help make servers more accessible for everyone Security improvements: We've added client-side protections to prevent players from listing unofficial servers as fake officials, and we've fixed a number of exploits. We know there is still plenty more work to be done on all of those fronts, but we're committed to making ARK: Survival Ascended the best survival game it can be. We'll continue to release patches with bug fixes and performance improvements in the coming days, along with major feature additions over the coming weeks (and introducing Public Test Realm next week – more on that soon). While we're going to wait to reveal the gameplay of ARK Survival Ascended until it's near final-form, we want to show you how we're approaching the new game artistically. ASA is much more than a complete technology overhaul, we are also going through and revising the artwork by hand for a new conception of the worlds of ARK. The modding community has always been a large part of the beating heart of ARK. We've celebrated your creativity through contests, official mods, and even abducting some of you onto our little team. We’ve always dreamt of an ARK where players and modders could unleash their creativity, not just on their own servers, but on the official stage. Where dino-riding adventures could be dynamically splashed with unlimited customization reshaped by fantastical mods. That dream is finally a reality. Player-created cosmetics have finally landed on both Official and Unofficial Servers and the Simple Game Framework is live! We know you're itching to get started , and we want to make onboarding as smooth as possible. The Custom Cosmetic Mods approved for use on Official Servers will be “Featured” on the Mods List UI. That way, everyone can more easily discover what’s allowed on the Official Network. While we're cooking up a longer-term solution to indicate which Custom Cosmetics are approved for use on Official Servers – and more will be dynamically added daily as they are submitted by creators. Currently you will need to manually install Custom Cosmetic Mods in order to see and use them (they don’t need to be manually activated – just installed), but in Phase 2 by April 1 they will automatically download them in the background whenever you encounter them during gameplay. Note: automatic downloading will be an option which servers and clients can respectively disable, and clients will also be able to selectively block individual cosmetics. Of course, we're not just going to throw tools your way and say "good luck”! We’ve included the Steamboat Willie Cosmetics, Clean Glass Wall, Party Lamp Post, Tic Tac Toe Table, and Gun Rack examples that you can download and use now on Official Servers and we’ll be releasing the source content for this so creators can see precisely how we’ve set things up! We will be releasing a ‘Custom Cosmetic Weapon Skin’ example shortly as well. Find out more by looking at the featured mods or reading more about the custom cosmetic system in our previous crunch! If you’re interested in using the Custom Cosmetics system on your own server, check out our patch notes for some helpful settings. As this system continues to advance (still to come: the ability for authors to add new hairstyles, emotes, etc), we’re looking forward to the infinite variety of visual and functional customizations that the creative authors will be adding for use on all Servers 🙂 We put some resources into building a powerful, flexible framework – the Simple Game Framework – that enables creators to build entire new games from scratch inside of ARK, using the Unreal Engine Blueprint foundational classes (without being limited to our own classes). Custom maps, game modes, even entirely new experiences within, or outside, the ARK universe! To get those gears turning, we're including a fully playable platformer built with the framework, along with the source for that in the ARK Dev Kit, and it’s just a tiny glimpse of what's possible. The resources we dedicated to this system? Worth every byte. Now, those resources are back on ARK: Survival Ascended, and we're laser-focused on getting Scorched Earth to you in April! From feathery artillery to strange diets, Yi Ling is bound to be an incredible addition to any Aberration survivor's tribe in ARK: Survival Ascended. Speaking of which, the race is coming to a close to see which community creature will roam the landscapes of The Center. Only three more days to cast your vote! Download in full resolution Species: Yi Ling Time: Late Jurassic Diet: Omnivore Temperament: Aloof This feathered fella is so much bigger than the Yi species I knew in my day! Despite its aberrant size, Yi ling is still somehow light enough to cling to walls and it can even glide short distances. It’s light on its feet as well, able to dodge attacks on the run. I’m glad Yi seems to prefer prey smaller than itself, because it can eject a spray of barbed feathers at an unhappy target before darting in to rip them back out. Its unique firepower may expose Yi in the short term, but its protective plumage regrows fast. A tamed Yi makes for an excellent -- if precarious -- hunting mount. Some tribes use them as caravan scouts, others to torment enemy forces. I’ve seen Yi scarf up the weird mushrooms, congealed gas balls, and nameless creatures scurrying around down here. Who knows what effect a diet like that would have on its feathery weaponry? Watch what your Yi eats, and you just might learn to sharpen its fighting skills!
