Presentation

Ladies and Gentlemen, here is the presentation of one of the least expected creatures of this vote with you the Calumma Benovskyi, a formidable chameleon that will help us in all our adventures in the ARK.

Wild

Among the most hidden corners of the forests they discovered Calumna Benovskyi, an unusual creature that also inhabits the most hidden caves and swamps in the area. The survivors decided to recognize it as Gigameleon because of its striking colors and large size.

Depending on the situation it is able to camouflage itself, either to hide from its enemies or to surprise its prey with its long tongue. It is usually quite solitary and has a friendly appearance, but survivors who got carried away by its appearance suffered from its great dexterity with its tail and had injuries before they could blink.

Domesticated

Despite being a solitary and hard-to-see creature, it cannot go unnoticed by anyone seeking to tame it. So it becomes a highly sought after creature by survivalists not only for its incredible tongue or large size, but for its ferocity, whether defending, attacking, exploring or harvesting.

Its ability to obtain chitin from the insects it devours can be even more grotesque than that of a megatherium, certainly a creature too resilient to withstand even the great pressure of radiation. For these and many other reasons, the Benovskyi calumma is one of the ideal mounts for any kind of survivor.

Abilities:

Our beloved Calumma Benovskyi as her life has developed or many of her abilities have been discovered throughout the ARK.
Although many of the survivors consider her a slow creature, they are fascinated by the fact that she is as tough as a tank, able to withstand heavy blows. One of its great virtues is its effective tongue that most of the time hits the target, but that's not all that our Benovskyi offers as it can also serve as a chitin collector, even being a good companion when you want to go deep and explore the deeper areas of the radiation.

Attacks (technically explained):

There is certainly a wide variety of attacks or passive abilities that the Calumma Benovskyi can offer us.

- (RC) Its powerful tongue works as an anchor capable of attracting enemies to it or dismount the riders of the creatures to be able to perform the combo of blows, it can charge dinosaurs from smaller to the size of a carnotaurus.

- (LC) The big combo hit that mainly focuses on hitting twice and finishing with a powerful bite (which can passively go into hit lethargy).

- (C) A strong tail capable of slowing mounts or applying a strong stun to survivors.

- (Q) Allows you to change the tongue mode so that you can steal items from the enemy's inventory.

- (space) Allows him to adapt to any surface whether walking on walls, trees or even zip lines.

- (CTRL) He is able to camouflage himself with his surroundings

Attacks or passive abilities (technically explained)

- One of them would be that it can turn on its own axis thanks to its eyes.

- Its eyes have been proven to see differently from ultraviolet light to infrared light.

- It can withstand high radiation temperatures.

- And it has a healing effect when it devours insects.

-Be able to put torpor the creatures that hold with the tongue

Taming:

One of the difficult tasks of the Calumma Benovskyi is its taming and you may be wondering how we managed to tame it. Well, first we must clarify that our friend Benovskyi is a solitary creature, but at the same time very territorial, it is enough for him to see you for him to grab you and start attacking you and even if he feels very intimidated he can camouflage himself. . and escape Therefore, it was thought that while you observe him for a period of time, at some point he will spit or defecate a kind of pheromone that if you spray it on your body you will be able to get closer.
Once sprayed with the pheromone you must have chitin in your inventory and the calumma with its powerful tongue will proceed to steal the chitin from your inventory, from time to time the calumma will begin to ask you for corpses of giant insects and you can drag the bodies and it will pick them up with its tongue and it will eat them, increasing its size even more.

But be careful that if the effect of the pheromone runs out, the calumma will proceed to attack you or if it is too far away it will steal some valuable item from your inventory!

Location:

It can be located in different regions of the map from swamps to forests and even in caves, it is worth noting that we can find it walking on the walls and even trees, but an advantage that has its location is that it is always located where there are insects, but it is always recommended to go with a lot of eye you never know where you can run into one.

Here is a reference to the comparative size:

Abilities better explained

The best known ability of the Calumma Benovskyi is its powerful tongue capable of holding dinos smaller than the size of a Carnotaurus, as well as dismounting survivors from their mount.

An added ability that would only work on tamed Calumma Benovskyi is the option to use their tongue as a whip, capable of having a percentage chance of obtaining some weapon, tool or resource from the enemy's inventory.

27113656_terixcamachiquito.jpg.7e7a372c0f3146e5bfa96db6c880c088.jpg

The camouflage was thought in a different way to be something new and repetitive, it consists in that the Calumma Benovskyi can choose to camouflage itself with its environment depending on the biome, either by adopting the textures of the environment, which would make it practically unrecognizable and undetectable to the cries of the Parasaur or to another type of detector.

camuflado.jpg.d680efdf4524959759fdc59e6e062b90.jpg

Its tail is a special case, because of its incredible size we decided that it could give strong blows with the tail that would be able to slow down the enemy making them unable to run or escape.

The calumma, being a poisonous reptile, can spray the arrows with its powerful poison that will give it a duration before the poison dissolves. Here I add a wikipedia link on data of the true calumma, which is already extinct https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calumma_benovskyi

Thank you very much for your attention, this work was made by 2 people who put love and attention to every detail, I hope you like it, we will accept any suggestions.

A chameleon would be a really nice addition to Ark. I made the begining of a dossier for one for a previous vote. I really like the ability to blend in with the environnement rather than invisibility, and i made similar concept, the only difference was that the chameleon appearence's could also change depending on what biome it's in, but it also shape its abilities:

-In forest if it use its camoflage, it gain better climbing speedy and can climb trees,...

-In water if it use its camoflage it gain better swimming speedy, oxygen buff,...

- In lava biome, if it use camoflage it gain immunity to heat, lava and its tongue attack can also burn

-In irradiated zone with camouflage it gain radiation immunity

-In caves gain night vision

-In desert/wasteland doesn't get negatives buffs

Etc,...

Basically the ability to blend in with the environnement is also an adaptation ability, to make it a really versatile mount

Really unique ideas, here is my ideas for it which was originally going to be my submission for Ab but this came first.

Calumna Benovskyi:

Link to the Original post made by @Zaimon (credit to him):

https://survivetheark.com/index.php?/forums/topic/676220-calumma-benovskyi-the-power-of-the-tongue/

The Calumma Benovskyi is an extinct prehistoric species of Chameleon. I had originally saw this magnificent creature in the first 2023 creature vote and had decided to take my own spin on it. But as always credit to the original art and some of the ideas goes to @Zaimon so make sure to check his stuff out. Anyways, onto the concept…

image.png.2ea288b49dee7c9e26e909c61c7cdbeb.png

The Calumma Benovskyi is (as mentioned earlier) a prehistoric species of Chameleon. It of course wasn’t as big as it is going to be in this concept but I believe this makes it fit in with the fauna all around the Arks, specifically the life of Aberration. The Calumma Benovskyi is slightly taller than a Triceratops but much longer and is a force to be reckoned with in the underground Ark of Aberration. This ferocious beast comes kitted out with many unique abilities like camouflaging into its surroundings or its large whip like tail. It would look very similar to modern day Chameleons although much bigger and stronger but also comes in many different and beautiful colours.

Here is a dossier from the original creator @Zaimon but this dossier does not reflect my ideas for the Calumma Benovskyi on Aberration, just his original ideas for it.:

Wild:

Among the most hidden corners of the forests they discovered Calumma Benovskyi, an unusual creature that also inhabits the most hidden caves and swamps in the area. The survivors decided to recognize it as Gigameleon because of its striking colours and large size.

Domesticated:

Despite being a solitary and hard-to-see creature, it cannot go unnoticed by anyone seeking to tame it. So it becomes a highly sought after creature by survivalists not only for its incredible tongue or large size, but for its ferocity, whether defending, attacking, exploring or harvesting.

Its ability to obtain chitin from the insects it devours can be even more grotesque than that of a megatherium, certainly a creature too resilient to withstand even the great pressure of radiation. For these and many other reasons, the Benovskyi calumma is one of the ideal mounts for any kind of survivor.

The Calumma Benovskyi also comes with some sexual dimorphism. Males would be slightly larger than females, have a different looking casque or head (similar to the Veiled Chameleon), have spikes on its back and be more colorful. While the females would look more like your typical Chameleon but would still be colorful but not as colorful as the males.

What Males would look like (would also have spikes on its back and be more colorful):

image.png.28328aa2b88be4897070338e63f4eb9a.png

What Females would look like:

image.png.278633b3d2e356c448f8d6f503af17bb.png

Passive Abilities:

Swift Turning:

  • When standing still the Calumma is able to turn on the spot

Adaptive Mobility

  • When standing still or walking the Calumma is able to move in all four directions without needing to look that direction.

Attacks / Offensive Abilities

image.png.ff6440ce9e8e4719dca961cad31d1a00.png

Tongue Attack (right click)

  • Hold right click to aim a cursor towards an opposing creature or player and then let go to launch your Calumma’s tongue towards it.

  • When aimed at a small creature (Anything smaller than a Carno) it will bring it closer towards the Calumma and hold it in it’s mouth being able to attack the creature inside it. Once killed the Calumma will instantly swallow the creature gaining all the resources it would from harvesting it.

  • When aimed at a large creature (Carno to Reaper size) it will stun the creature for a short duration relative to their weight. (The heavier / bigger a creature is the less stunned it is)

  • When aimed at a player it will stun the player for 4s and make them drop something at random from their inventory. (similar to the whip)

  • When used on a Rock Drake it’s saliva will temporarily disable their climbing and gliding ability. If attack while in air it will stop their current glide, fall to the ground and not be able to climb or glide for a period of time.

(This tongue attack also has a secondary form that can be changed by holding right click the secondary mode is a throw ability)

  • When holding a small creature (Iguanodon or smaller not including survivors) it can move it’s head around moving the held creature with it and if you aim ctrl while holding it will show a cursor. Left click after the cursor shows up to throw the creature that direction (similar to the Karkinos)

Tail Whip (c)

  • When a creature is hit with this ability they will be stunned for a duration relative to their size. (Raptor is 5 seconds, while a Carcharodontosaurus is 2 seconds) When hit the creature will also be knocked back a distance relative to their size. (Raptor would be 12 metres while a Carcharodontosaurus wouldn’t be knocked back at all)

  • This attack will also do torpor damage towards a target if it is a wild creature, if it is an opposing creature then this attack will still stun the creature. (This attack would stun and do torpor to wild creatures)

  • When a survivor is hit with this ability they will be hit with a large amount of torpor and knocked back a considerable distance.

Traversal / General Abilities

Camouflage (press ctrl)

  • When you press control the Calumma Benovskyi will go into a camouflage mode where it will blend into it’s surroundings.

  • When camouflaged wild creatures, turrets and anything tha dtetects creatures will not see it. As well as when being camouflaged spy glasses or HLNA will be unable to see the creature. (Stats, Level, Species etc)

Climbing / Mounting (hold ctrl + space)

  • When you hold down control and then press space you will latch onto a surface close to you allowing you to climb it and/or stay upside down for a period of time. And is able to climb on ziplines.

Tranquillising Saliva:

  • Whenever the Calumma Benovskyi attacks with either a basic attack or it’s tongue attack it will deal a small bit of torpor towards the creature / survivor.

  • Any tamed Calumma will slowly generate Calumma Saliva in their inventory being the equivalent to narcotics (similar to Achatina’s generating Achatina past). This saliva can be used as a substitute for narcotics.

Taming:

I imagine that taming could be done in one of 2 ways (I prefer the second one):

#1

  • In order to tame this creature you must wait until it is passive and is not attacking any creature. It will then hang upside down on a rock or something and can then begin the taming process. You must throw Honey beneath it and have it eat the Honey by grabbing it with it’s tongue. You then must coat yourself with a mixture of Bug Repellant, Calumma Saliva and Honey and stand under it. The Calumma will then grab you with it’s tongue and begin to eat you. While it is attempting to eat you you must feed it loads of chitin and it will then drop you. It will then go to another spot and repeat this process until it is tamed.

Or

#2

  • You must find a passive Calumma Benovskyi and coat yourself with a mixture of Bug Repellant, Calumma Saliva and Honey and come up to it. Once you come up to it interact with it by giving it bug repellant giving you an open window to mount it. Once the Calumma is mounted you must go around killing insects, Rock Drakes, Karkinos or anything else that is aggressive. (It’s favourite being in order Rock Drakes, Insects, Karkinos and then anything else aggressive) If you attack a passive creature it will buck you off and attempt to kill you. (you must finish this process in a certain amount of time similar to the Carcharodontosaurus or it will then attack you if you fail to tame it in time)

Saddle:

  • The Calumma Benovskyi’s saddle is a sleek design allowing it to a cary more food along with it. (a.k.a. Has 50% less carry weight towards chitin, meat, berries, vegetables and eggs)

Weaknesses:

  • A Calumma will take an increased 200% damage from Reapers and Nameless

  • The Calumma Benovskyi take more damage from fire and cannot go on the surface of Aberration.

  • Has a low damage stat, making more of a traversal and opportunistic hunter than a full on attacker like Rock Drakes, Reapers or even Rexs.

Other important Things:

  • The Calumma Benovskyi is neutral to other creatures until approached closely (similar to the Therizinosaurus)

  • Is great at harvesting large amounts of Chitin, Meat and Berries / Vegetables

  • When tamed their food stat drops very quickly requiring them to eat often.

  • The Calumma Benovskyi would be found in the Blue Zone of Aberration and would be seen often fighting off their sworn enemy, Rock Drakes.

  • Would be an Aberrant Variant as it’s base variant in Aberration but if incorporated in other maps would have a normal mode. The Aberrant Variant would have a large glowing crest and have its toes, part of its underbelly, tongue and also some part of it’s tail and body would glow.

  • Is a somewhat tanky tame but is severely weakened when facing any of it’s weaknesses.

  • Rock Drakes will prefer to attack Calumma’s as they both have a sort of rivalry against each other.

  • The Calumma Benovskyi has an omnivorous diet allowing it to be able to eat both: meat, kibble, chitin and berries / vegetables but prefers chitin / insects over everything else.

Other Possible Abilities (but not included for the sake of balancing):

  • A basic attack combo

  • Etc and others you guys have in mind

And that is it for my Calumma Benovskyi submission. Thank you for taking the time to read this as it had taken me a while to come up with it. And as always thank you to @Zaimon for posting the original idea for the Calumma Benovskyi. And let me know in the comments if there are any other ideas you guys think would fit the giant Chameleon. Hope you enjoyed the concept!

I really like the idea of a large, ridable chameleon. If this creature doesn't make it to the top 10, or win the poll, I can see this idea being fantastic for Aberration. It fits the overall gorgeousness of the map, fits with the other creatures having a form of mobility (with climbing), and could have mechanics directly associated with the lantern bugs and pets around the map. Maybe swallowing lantern pugs and cute little goats can give it certain charge abilities. A glowing, color changing chameleon just sounds sick as hell.

i feel this deserves to be top 10 instead of that large theropod labeling its self a chameleon.

id give it the camo, stat reading (awesome spyglass mod), and make it a shoulder tame. also eats bugs not meat.

add a lick up ability, it can be set to pick up corpses and lowers their weight so you can drag a larger body. but more usefully, drag passive living creatures into traps or to where ever you need it to be. also as a leash to tamed creatures not big enough to be ridden, using lick up u can drag them into a pen or house or just closer to the rest of the pack you want them sitting with. ALSO gives you back dropped weapons knocked out of your hands!

what about the ability to walk a zip line? jedi fallen order/survivor style. you hang on him while he walks you to the other side! or fire his tongue at a wall and zip upto and hang off the wall and spider swing to the next cliff wall up till you reach the top.

add in an auto return mode, ever thrown your shoulder pet accidently? set him to a unique auto return mode and even throwing him on a roof will have him reach out his tongue and zip right back to you. working as well when the tame is knocked off your shoulder by a threat or ragdoll.

on top of stat reading and spotting, and the camo stealth, to the lick up ability this tame becomes a versatile tool, all you need is to have him on your shoulder.

bro had a temper tantrum in my majungas replies then came here and told them to steal my ideas lmao. Btw to the chameleon poster i do really enjoy your post and would love to see it on maybe abberation if it doesn't make top 10 this vote

he didnt like my majungasaurus submission so he poop talked it in my comments and the attacked a mod who defended me. After that he started going to other submissions like this and told them to steal the ideas of my submission to gain more votes. He is now banned im pretty sure

oh I understand, I did not see the comments and it seemed strange to me I am also against that kind of people who want ideas to be stolen, good luck brother

Of course I love the idea of this creature being in Ark. But if you don't mind me asking will you be resubmitting it for the Aberration Vote if that happens and this doesn't win this vote?
