So is spawn in all at once? Producing lag hike?

There is a lag hike that happens even when servers are running at there very absolute best.  Then after it seems alphas or whatnot appear on the map.  I am thinking this is caused by massive spawn-ins all at once.  If so, this programming needs amended.  Spawns should be spread apart over time and few and less all-n-everything-all-at-once.  Any thoughts?

  • 2 weeks later...

dinos dont spawn all at once, they spawn in waves over about 30 minutes, i do 2 dino wipes weekly and it takes roughly this amount of time to see normal dino population again (also tested dino respawn rate after dino wipe using s+ tek transmitter), you make need to check that your server does not have it set so that map stasis is turned off, this will cause massive lag issues esp during spawn times as the dinos out of render range are active and not in stasis.

Most server lag is caused by slow clients. When a client requests asset data from the server, the server waits for a confirmation from that client before proceeding any server ticks. After a certain time, it'll simply time out that client if no response is given, but that time frame is definitely greater than 30 seconds.  When the client is given data for 2000ish structures at one time, it can take a significant amount of time to render those structures because of how poorly the build system is designed. This means that the client doesn't respond to the server for a long period of time, and the server stops all ticks until response. The client loading said structures will appear frozen, and the other clients will be unable to do much outside of movement. (obvious signs are fliers unable to land).  This is the most prominent source of server lag on ARK, particularly with slow clients like Xbox and ps4.  It's directly tied to loading of massive bases.
