  1. I am so impressed that you're already releasing concept art AND dino dossier for the Dinopithecus. I thought it'd take weeks, particularly in the middle of the summer Just as impressive is how you're using the parasite in the pewp of the Dinopithecus to retcon how OP Gen2 has made Ark. We'll of course have to see the balance in action but on paper, smart. What I feel compelled to say is that this whole vote showed a few things : - People are willing to be involved with what is added to the game. We already knew that, in part, from the laundry list of QoL suggestions made last year (of which many didn't make the cut, never to be mentioned again...), but the passions, for better or for worse, around this vote, should be telling you that players want to be involved. Imho such a community vote on a custom creature could (should ?) have happened way earlier during Ark1's lifespan. I hope it's not the last time ! - If it isn't the last time, hopefully we have learned a few things from this process. For instance that it's hard for people to agree on a given species AND on a given ability... so maybe those two issues should probably become two different polls. I'm not saying it'd spare us all of the toxicity some of us have witnessed and/or been the target of, but I feel it'd bring a better consensus. - With the community being involved so much in the Summer Bash event, and now in the Lost Island Creature vote, I truly hope you don't let this enthusiasm die. Please involve us in how this creature is developed, by updating us on the evolution of the 3D model, or by organizing a short livestream built around the animation of one of its actions, or by recording a behind-the-scenes of the sound design, or all of the above... Lost Island's release is still a bit far away, don't let all that interest die down. A lot of us feel like it's "our" creature, keep us in the loop please Also : please consider adding bananas as a new crop ? XD As for the 3rd creature... well, if you like chaos, pick the Sinoma, that'll keep the conversation going for sure XD More seriously though, whatever you choose, I'd be interested in knowing how and why you pick it. We have a herbivore and an omnivore coming... are you going to go the obvious route with a carnivore ?
  2. Not gonna lie, "Lost Island" is a dumb name, and I'm calling it now : noone is really ever gonna call it that because players like to avoid confusion as much as possible (you should try it sometimes). I guess most people are just gonna call it "Lost" probably ? So might as well update your art. Your description mentions new biomes but all I can see so far is biomes we've already seen half a dozen times... Jungle ? Redwoods ? Swamp ? Volcano ? Snow ? Mkay, revolutionary stuff here. Maybe it's because I was expecting Fjördur or Tiamat, which are so interesting to explore and come up with actual new biomes and even new assets... but this is not very exciting for now. Hopefully further screenshots as we get closer to release will be more exciting. This being said, the style of the ruins on your first/cover picture for this new map is really cool. Lost could be very unique if it retained that Mayans-like theme ! It'd look like its own world instead of a patchwork of Island and Ragnarok. Will it come with a new building tier ? We haven't had a new building tier since Scorched Earth. Some mod devs are creating their own, maybe they could be brought onboard like other types of mod devs have been in the past ? CKF & CKF:SF come to mind, but eco also has great structures (her Empire series is full of nice, original stuff, though it might need work to become modular...), Hulk too... I don't know, think about it. Please ? I'm also excited about THREE new REAL creatures ! The Amargasaurus looks super cool, and since it was on my wishlist for dinos, I'm excited. Once again, whoever is designing dinos these days deserve a raise, you can tell by the patterns on its neck and back that this is coming from the same person or people who worked among other things on X and R variants, which are some of the best looking creatures in the game. Give them a raise, a month off for the summer, and when they're back, a job on ARK2 ! I don't fully understand what the Amar does (and whether it'll be something useful in PvE), and not even really how it's tamed. But that'll come later, no doubt. I just hope it's not a nightmare taming mechanic, as has been the case with many Gen2 creatures. I'm fine with taming it with Amar...berries ^_^; Lastly, I want to say thank you for involving the community in deciding 1 of the 3 upcoming creatures, especially since they have to be real and not sci-fi/fantasy. That's really something I wish had happened more often during Ark1's lifespan. The most complicated part will be to pick which of the dinos on my wishlist I'll submit ! Can we submit more than one ? ^_^;
  3. Ever considered some sort of season pass that would add ONE item every few months, submitted and voted on by the community ? Players can have amazing ideas sometimes. I would pay real world money for that rhino tek saddle.
  4. Please tell me that to kill time while traveling, the Astrodelphis quizzes you or asks embarrassing questions : "What's 712x3 ?" / "What movie won an Oscar in 1973 ?" / "Survivor, where do babies come from ?".
  5. The Maewing is HUGE. I didn't expect that at all from the concept art. I'm not saying I hate it, but it really comes as a surprise. I thought it was "the cutie" of that DLC (you know there's always one ).
  6. If by "structures and items" you mean "a new building tier because we haven't added one since the Scorched Earth DLC and that was back when we were still in Early Access", then you're all forgiven. THEN AND ONLY THEN. I think I paid for this DLC about two years ago now ? What's two more months.
  7. Yesss. On the serious side : how many tickets solved ? How much downtime on officials ? How many hours played (all players combined) ? On the fun side : how many deaths overall ? How many survivors killed themselves (Darwin award of the week) ? How many C4 exploded ? How many creatures tamed ? How many creatures born/hatched ? (and what creature had more babies this week ?) Can you even see how many walls were built ? I think it'd even be fun to compare week after week, especially metrics that'll be comparable with Genesis2 (so, you know better than us if dilo deaths will be a metric or not for instance). Also : do those numbers include SP people or just officials ?
  8. I didn't say it didn't have a use at all, I said "not as much". As in, some functionalities will only benefit PvP players. At least, unless some creatures in Gen2 do have offspring in the wild, which is always a possibility for this ability to become universal.
  9. Ha ! That's fun ! Is there a way to trigger that on unofficials and/or in SP ?
  10. I'll be honest, I prefer the Maewing's design to that of the Noglin. It's in line with why the Velonasaur is one of my favorite sci-fi creatures : as imaginary as it is, there's a prehistoric feel to it. I'm afraid that for PvE players (and even more SP players, yes we exist, please remember us in your further endeavors ?) will not have as much use of it. We are a peaceful people ! Unless Gen2 creatures start having offspring in the wild (which... don't get me wrong, I'd be game for that), we don't have enemies. Unless you're not telling us the whole story just yet, of course Happy holidays to the team
  11. There's a first time for everything, I'm crying reading a Community Crunch.
  12. *looks at Community Crunch* *looks at day of the week* *looks at Community Crunch again*
  13. Whoever designed the X variants, the Tropeo and now the Stego TLC (you can't convince me one same person isn't behind these) really deserves a raise. Those look amazing, with a great use of stripes/patterns (and the Stego's are even functional !), better volumes, and incredible details. Also gotta love the S&M saddle for the Stego.
  14. *sigh* Thank God for fanarts or else those Community Crunches could look VERY empty... EDIT : I'm so tired of being teased about upcoming things in tweets ("there's a lot coming ! promise !") and every week seeing THIS in Community Crunches. Even if you have nothing to announce, here are a few ideas that could make CCs meatier : - a recap of the most important tweets posted by the WildCard team in the past week - a recap of videos posted by Ark Youtubers in the past week. Or some clips from Ark streamers of the past week. I'm sure they'd be happy to send them to Cedric for promotional purposes. I remember that used to happen along with Fanart Fridays, no ? - any recap of what was accomplished during the past week. How many tickets solved ? Or how many technical issues intervened on ? - you know, I have not even seen Community Crunches being used to link articles/reviews about the Crystal Isles release (or any DLC before it)... it'd be so easy to give people more stuff to read when it's other people writing it Free content right there, just compile links for them. Crystal Isles was just released on console, I'm sure some outlets are going to report on that, no ? - a handful of suggestions from the suggestions forums, that are already popular and/or of interest to WildCard, so that people can see if they support the idea and vote for it even more (assuming some of those suggestions will lead somewhere... because they do, right ?) - behind-the-scenes content about stuff already in the game. "Here are some designs we went through while coming up with the Tropeo" / "An interview with ISO on what it meant for her map to become official" / "Our sound designer explaining how dino sounds are made"... just use one CC to ask people for ideas and actually follow up on some of the most doable suggestions [sidenote : record. Genesis2. Behind-the-scenes. stuff. now... you'll use it to fill Crunches later] - a written Q&A with one member of the WildCard team. Each week people ask a lot of questions in the comments of the Community Crunches, why not select some of the ones you're most comfortable with, and have someone reply to a handful of them ? - an update on the mods that are/were part of the Sponsored Mod program. What is their progress now, several months later ? What is their roadmap ? Do they have new projects instead ? (I remember a time when Zen Rowe was interviewing mod devs about their work). - in general, why not have someone report on the newest and/or most popular mods on the Workshop ? New mods appear pretty much every week, but also, there are popular mods with very frequent update that could get some spotlight. Almost all the mod devs have discords where they post previews of upcoming work, too. It's a dynamic part of the community, it's related to the game... really, the mod monitoring writes itself, it just needs to be reported on in Crunches some way or another. Do SOMETHING with it. None of this requires to discuss content "in the works", by the way. But at least it'd feel informative and/or constructive. It'd feel like something is happening, instead of stalling until what is coming actually comes. It's ACTUAL content instead of a filler. I do agree it's more work (and more planning ahead, like remembering to record stuff during the development phase of some DLC) than the current Community Crunches, though. Also one project I really could see being carried through these Community Crunches would be asking people to suggest tips, in order to update the tips on the game's loading screen (I think we all "remember to eat" at this point). That would feel productive imho. Partner with Dododex' admin for this if you need help on the project, IDK ? I'll also add that I remember filling a poll posted by Cedric a while ago, and I don't remember reading about the feedback, anyone has a link to that ?
  15. It would be so cool if the Diplocaulus actually had a saddle, like in MayaPatch's drawing ! Especially since they're so fragile by nature... but also because look at this ! Look at how cool it looks ! #DiplocaulusTLC2k20
  16. Please be tameable and breedable. (either Genesis 2 is about hentai, or we're having another corruption theme XD )
  17. Whatever happened to this @Cedric ? It's one of the most popular suggestions but nothing came out of it ?
  18. Bright colors, musical emotes, new chibis (astrocetus)... man this is the kind of event I could go for all year.
  19. Oh my God whoever is working on designing dinos (and TLC-ing them) since Genesis, and now with the Tropeo and the Crystal wyverns, is doing an amazing job at coming up with great visuals. Look at this (ember ?) wyvern ! Honestly, this looks amazing. Can't wait to tame one, or two, or thousands. (I was hoping on event colors but oh well, as we've learned during the past 5 years, you have to take what you can get)
  20. Noone is fooled by this. The extreme vague language this message uses to refuse showing support one way or another -- thousands of other companies have done it, for whatever that's worth -- only leads us to think that this is just an attempt to hide that, once again, you couldn't deliver on time. The dirty little secret is that, when someone does something for a political reason (and there's little as political than the current events), they tend to, you know, make a political statement. I promise you this : Ark will never upstage any worldwide event. Or nationwide. Or local. I mean, it's not even the most important thing happening in my living room. Rest assured that meeting deadlines will offend noone.
  21. Dear WildCard employee who made the X-Dinos and now the Tropeo : you're good. You're real good. Ask for a raise.
  22. Happy anniversary, Ark. Five years of dying, respawning, dying again, taming, building, dying, exploring, dying, crashing, hating you for all the bugs that have become features... and so many of us are still here to celebrate nonetheless XD You found an untapped market of masochists to sell games to, and that was creative genius Just teasing, Ark, you know I love/hate you. I was sure the new dino would be a flyer because of Crystal Isles' floating islands, well I'm happy with my guess. I agree with the comment above that this looks a lot like a Tropeognathus (the modder Hokiroya had made a nice one at some point and this beak looks very familiar), and I like the idea of a turret on a creature. Always surprised there aren't more in the game ! Dino Riders showed the way ...And I hope you guys notice how excited people get for new "real" dinos ! Sure, all the people who have played CI as a mod wonder what's going to happen to the crystal wyverns, crystal griffins, embertross, and all the mean creatures from Eldritch Island, but there is a real excitement about getting an actual dino, in a game many of us starting playing because of the dinosaur angle. When we talk about it, that's oftentimes the first thing that comes up, along with the nostalgia of the EA phase when discovering regularly new creatures was keeping things fresh and exciting. I'd pay real life money (and possibly with my first born child) for a season pass that introduces new creatures regularly.
