Yesterday, I managed to sneak in a few hours... we had a severe snow storm here so it put work on hold for a few days. I started getting everything ready for the boss army breeding: cryo’d all the yutys in the Colosseum to make way for theris, podded most of my other less useful dinos too just to clean things up. I took out my new thyla as a baby killer in the Colosseum for all the rejects. I don’t think I told you guys about this.... when I was flying around the redwoods looking for otters, I found a medium-level thyla just chillin on the shores. I couldn’t resist flying it back to base and taming it because I’ve never owned one!

Aaaaanyway... I’ve got my two wild-tamed theris breeding at the moment. I got a Perfect F, just waiting on Perfect M to reveal himself and then the real breeding can start. I think I’m gonna collect 10 or so females after the perfect pair to increase my chances. I had 5 for the yutys and it wasn’t enough.

That’s all for now, but I’m excited to report even this minimal progress.

Its been many moons since my last post. I have a seasonal job in real life so once the season starts, I usually play sporadically whenever I can. Despite this, I finally have some news to report.

My last post was about my struggle to find otters. I had no choice, after 6 logins worth of trying I couldn’t find ANY, so I dino wiped. I managed to find some low levels after that. I got a pair this time so I never EVER have to fish for otters again. Cool colours, too! Otters are like cannon fodder when I play so I plan to breed up a bunch of spares.

After all the otter drama, it was time to finally attempt the snow cave. In typical me fashion, I was totally overprepared. I got Achilles, my imprinted and levelled Yuty and made two trips, one to clear out the first section of the cave where you can put a mini base and a second trip to bring more crap and actually run the rest of the cave. The house I made in that base is big and cozy enough to live in permanently 🤣 Oh well, I’ll be comfy when I go back to fish some of the huge salmon.

I was massively surprised by how easy it was to run the cave on a yuty. I even brought some of those valentines day chocolates that fully heal your creature, but never had to use one. Very effective creature, I’m super happy I chose that mount. I did lose my otter, though. I didn’t know that if my character was in knee-deep water that the otter would take cold damage as well. Didn’t take long for it to die.

Next up is boss army breeding and then actual boss fights! Wish me luck!

@Cordiste, Hey bud.  I totally feel your pain.  Sometimes we get so caught up in placing value in high level dinos that we forget the simplicity for which they need to be used.  I think this is one of those cases.  Don't worry about finding a 150 otter. (Ark gods seem to have a knack for taking away the one thing we are after anyway).  Besides, I never use otters for anything other than regulating temperature and carrying the extra artifact, and in my experience the level 5 otter is just as good at doing that.  So... grab the first otter you find and move on to bigger - better things.

I am waiting for you to finish the island so we can compare SE notes.  So hurry up. 🤣

You know what, you’re absolutely right man. I obviously play alone so maybe I just really needed a bit of perspective.

perhaps I’ll just get myself a low-level pair so I don’t ever have to go otter fishing ever again.

thanks for the reality check, @Penguin73. My next post should be about the snow cave 😉 believe me, I’m already sick of the island and ready to move on the SE as fast as possible!

I haven’t posted in a while but it’s not from a lack of gameplay. I literally just have nothing to share 😅. A few logins ago I decided to re-run the lava cave with a disposable saber. Lost the saber and everything in my inventory when I fell into lava (maybe one day I’ll learn 🤣).

So for the past few logins, I’ve been working to replace the things I lost but my main thing has been finding another otter. I didn’t have the forethought to get a breeding pair the first time around, so now I’m stuck flying back and forth over the river near the redwoods to find another. Only low levels at first, and now I can’t find any. I’ve put around 17 real hours into finding a good one but haven’t yet. Wondering if I’m wasting my time now but... I need it for the snow cave. If I settle for a low level, that guarantees that I wasted all that time. Ugh.

Disenchanted and discouraged, I keep on the search anyway.

After taking a much needed week off, I opened up my single player game again.  It was wonderful seeing all my old friends still parked where I left them about 8 months ago.  Since time stops in SP when not playing, many of the therizinos and a few rexes were still healing from my last adventure into the tek cave.  After healing them up and refreshing the feeding troughs I decided to advance that survivor to SE.

I packed up some basic items to help me get started (some tools, equipment, materials, etc.) and I took a couple friends with me too (therizino, rex, thyla, and argy).  I am not an expert at jumping around the arks... quite the opposite actually.  I have only done it twice in PVE, and never with gear or tames... so I didn't take anything too valuable.  All gear and tames were mid-level.

Went to the green ob on the island and stripped down to my underwear, transferred all gear and saddles into the data tab, uploaded the four dinos, them myself.  Went to main menu and selected my survivor for SE.  All good so far.

Woke up on SE and made my way to the green ob (yes I did die a few times first, lol.) But when I got to the ob console I did not have any gear in the system.  Luckily the 4 dinos downloaded ok though.  I could not ride them without saddles, so with them all on follow we managed to clear out the immediate area of any danger.  I got to work immediately on picking berries and doing all the little things to get basic tools.  I soon had enough of the right materials to make an argy saddle (which is also a smithy) and progress was pretty easy from there.  I have all 4 dinos with saddles, desert armor, and a good start on a base under the green ob.

I took a break from grinding at one point to just fly around and found a red desert loot drop.  It had a really awesome pair of ascendant fur leggings and ascendant chitin leggings!!!  Just what every desert dweller needs. lol.  I also found in another OSD an ascendant chainsaw BP.  I look forward to playing with that later, but can't justify the mats just yet.

Paused here and reflected how nice it is to play without all the lag and DC issues.

Refreshed base, flew up to the blue ob and made a bunch of cryo pods.  Then I podded ALL the dinos I have and put them into the cryo fridge.  I made a bunch of gasoline and tossed it into the generator.  Logged off.  Not sure if I will ever play PVE again with all the frustration I had... but I will refresh once a week until I decide for sure.

Nice to see you back on the thread,  looking forward to following your SP journey 👍

In my past couple logins, I’ve been busy stacking yuty mutations until I couldn’t take it anymore and had to do something else 😅. I ended up with a 3 health, 7 melee yuty. Could obviously be better, so I’m keeping an eye out on the eggs that come out in the Colosseum before they all get butchered.

I named the yuty Achilles and levelled him just under 60 times in the purpose-built colosseum. I then gave him the ceremonial cave mount face paint and took him out for a joy ride. I’ve been saving a nearby alpha carno just for this occasion.

I’m just as happy with the yuty as I am about my colosseum project. It took no time at all to level up, and the entire structure will work fantastically to breed, raise, imprint, and level the entire theri army. Basically, it was a very successful trial run. And while I was messing around with the yutys, I got better at breeding.  Win!

Now I’m doing loads of research and preparations for the snow cave, all advice is welcome.

Im not doing that bad in terms of time, either... ~560 (in-game) days. I wasted a lot of time in the beginning learning the game and didn’t consider doing boss fights until much later, so I’m actually pretty happy with the progression since I decided I was going to ascend. It feels good to be (maybe, hopefully) close to my first boss fight.

Next steps are: finish snow cave prep, run the cave, theri breeding then decide which boss to start with and begin prep for that.

I hope I’m doing this right

I have been breeding Yutys for a few  days now and have learned an incredible amount. I didn’t realize how much space this was going to take, I’ve renovated the breeding area like 3 times. No big deal, though, I like building.

After the novelty of hatching wore off, I got bored and planned and built a gladiator-style coliseum. It’s not just for show, it’s got a triple-purpose. For one, it will serve as a nice place to kill and get rid of all the unwanted yutys that are no longer needed for breeding as well as other useless dinos hanging around. Next, it’s entire floor has a basement with a generator and a/c units (obviously for hatching) and a walkway up top on which to place the last of the female yuty breeders, which brings me to my third purpose, levelling.  I can either choose to keep some good yutys that fall into the pit, but the vast majority will be used to level the keepers. The yuty you want to keep walks up the ramp to fall into the pit, slaughters however many dinos, then leaves thru the gates ready for either the snow save or boss fights. There’s even a platform on which they stand afterwards to get painted, kind of like a rite of passage... not much else to do who left waiting around for timers to go down lol.

I’ve currently got a stack of 2 health, 4 melee on my current breeders. Soo far to go, yet 😟. Current colours are green main body with a red stripe on top, pretty poopy but different I’ll admit. I won’t mind if I get something else 😅

also... I now have an UNGODLY amount of chocolates and candies. Had to make a bunch more storage and fridges 😁 Anybody else go a bit crazy on collecting the event items?

Happy times at the Hidden Lake base. I buckled down and got better at breeding for mutations. I started by messing around with some sabers, I wanted a better small caving dino so that seemed like a good place to start. I’m glad I did, because I certainly made some mistakes along the way.

While I waited around for timers from go down, I did metal and meat runs, got OSD’s and did some more renovations.

Then I got to the yutys. I was very intimidated at first, but I was smart enough to keep the original parents. I’m glad I did, too, because I made some more mistakes in that breeding line. But, I’m currently sitting at 1 Health and 3 Melee mutations on my snow cave/boss fighting yuty line. I’m pretty proud, and now that I’ve kinda got the hang of things I’m actually having some fun. It’s a good time to “get into” breeding too, with the Valentine’s event going on. I’ve been getting lots of chocolates and candies.

I experimented with the candies a bit and was really pleasantly surprised at some of the colour combos. On some of my dinos, I wish the colours were permanent.

I also built an incubation/hatching room with the a/c units under the floor, which I’m pretty proud of. I have 5 yuty females, so I collect like 10-15 eggs in the fridge then hatch em up at the same time then use one of the sabers to harvest the unwanted ones. Pretty slick! Can’t believe I waited so long to get started on this.

    PVE Island official:

Like everyone else, I have been raising babies the last couple days.

15 rexes hatched and in the juvenile stage.

I was not looking but found a 135 F yuty.  I tamed her up and then bred her with my high-health male.  Got twins, 1 M and 1 F.  Sweet.  Babies are now 20% mature. @Cordiste sorry, not trying to rub that in.  haha.

Therizinos have been slower than I wanted.  I have hatched 3 and have one more egg in the fridge.  However, the server has been so lagy that the countdown timer for breeding the female (my only female) again seems to take forever.  An 18 hour timer will actually take closer to 25-30 hours right now.  Eh, it is what it is.

I finally met up with my friend and she gave me a baby basilo.  Then a second one was born right away and she let me claim that one too. Bonus!  They are both male but I am okay with that.  And I spent most of my time at her water platform raising them this weekend.  The water platform was built with floor and walls and is closer to a fully enclosed swimming pool than anything else.  I even brought the rexes with me and had them all lined up around the perimeter of the platform at various times.  Then at one point when the basilos were about 50% mature the game crashed.  Luckily I had the rexes podded at that moment because the game was acting funny.  10 minutes later when I was able to log back in I found myself in the water (as expected) with the basilos (my two babies and the adult breeding pair belonging to my friend).  Anyway, the platform structure took an exceptionally long time to load in... and a shark that could be seen in the distance then swam towards us.  I kept thinking the pen would spawn in but it didn't.  As the shark got closer the adult breeding pair had another baby at that moment.  Of course the shark went for the newborn baby.  The baby swam away and the shark followed.  The structure finally loaded in but not before the newborn and shark fled the area.  I couldn't stand by and watch so I climbed out of the water pen and jumped into the open ocean.  I swam after the shark and baby and luckily then swam toward shallower water.  I surfaced a few times for air along the way.  When I caught up to them the baby was already bloody.  I took out my sword and started whacking on the shark.  Eventually the shark died.  And I was left with a very bloody and barely alive baby basilo... but it was alive!  I then claimed it, podded it, and took it back to the pen and fed it to help it heal.  My friend (offline at the time) later let me keep that one too.  So now I have 3 basilos in the 280-285 range with wicked awesome stats... 2 males and 1 female. 😄

    PVE Scorched Earth official:

I went to SE when island lag made the game unplayable.

Made another trip with my sabrecat to my second hut.  Took some supplies with me and built a 2x2 adobe house.  Added the basic amenities and will make it my new temporary base.  I plan to eventually transfer all my supplies to this base then leap frog north again.  I would also like to get an argy while here if possible.  I have seen a couple in the distance.  That is now on my to-do list.

Not a problem, because in the past week, I finally, FINALLY found two high(ish) levels. They aren’t anywhere near max level, but I also have yet to see anything higher, so I’ll settle.

Yesssss... finally have my boss and snow cave cave mount. I’m in the process of breeding now.

    Since losing my basilo in the cave, I felt really demoralized. I really didn’t feel like yuty or theri breeding (I’m also new to it which sucks) so I started doing feel-good tasks around the base. Things I could easily accomplish that would make my life instantly better;

    - I killed all my egg-laying dinos, destroyed the pen and made one especially for yuty egg farming. I never thought I’d be DROWNING in special eggs lol.

    - I went to slaughter some penguins and made a huge amount of really good ghillie armour.

    - I redecorated the house and made room for breeding indoors

    - I made extra cryofridges and cryopods so I can more easily separate and organize my dinos. Also cleared up the house by putting lots of dinos into cryo.

Then I started to get bored. So I made gunpowder. Still bored, so I made various types of ammo.

Then, there I am, stashing things into my caving vault, and I say SCREW IT.  WE’RE DOING A CAVE! I needed a pick-me-up after losing basil. So I picked a cave I knew I was good at, the lava cave, and crushed it. No drama 😄

One could say I was on a roll, because after getting back from the lava cave, I immediately started loading up gas masks. Yup, I was gonna try the swamp cave again. I got the artifact last time, but barely survived.

After re-supplying, I grabbed my best argy and headed south to the swamp cave. While flying over the mountain in the redwoods, I spot an alpha rex. I take him down with the argy and while I’m picking through our inventories to drop stuff, I get THYLA’D. Oh. My. God. I’m about to lose my best and only imprinted argy, I’m thinking, as I stood there stunned. I whistle furiously to my bird to attack, and together we kill the thyla. In the chaos, I hadn’t realized that a saber had also joined in. So we kill that too but at this point I’m so hurt that I can’t move. Whistle, whistle, whistle for my bird to come get me, but he keeps missing and there’s a pack of allos is headed my way. On Merlin’s 5th pass over my head I finally manage to actually mount him, and we escape.

So all in all, a pretty good series of events compared to my last post. I got 2 spare artifacts, some blueprints, a spare MC rifle which was nice and a few levels on my caving bary, Ghillie. Ghillie earned himself a painted saddle so I spent some time making it just right.

Quite literally the only thing I have left now is breeding. There is nothing else in life for me right now but getting this done. I could try a boss fight if I had an army. I could try the snow cave if I had an imprinted yuty.

It’s time to get good at breeding.

No drama this time. Went for a yuty hunt, found no high lvls. Got some OSD’s, that’s a bout it.

And now, for the first time ever...

    Xbox Official PvP 😁

The soloist joins the chaos of the servers for the first time! I was going to hold out on trying to servers until I had ascended on SP but I needed a change to keep myself interested in the game. Needed something a little less serious, I’ve been really stressed about trying to find a good yuty. I must say, I haven’t had this much fun playing in a while. I had the normal hilarious encounters that I’m sure you've all experienced a million times before me.

Someone knocked on my beach hut door late at night and left 2 golden eggs on my steps.

I got killed for using someone’s campfire.

I bola’d and killed a bob trying to sneak up on me when I had my back turned while building on my raft.

A mysterious player on a rainbow-coloured wyvern thundered in and landed in front of my door, killed everything around and left the corpses for me to harvest.

It’s been hilarious and dangerous and my only regret is not trying it sooner. I’m not taking it too seriously and don’t care if I get raided, however I don’t foresee that being an issue. My time as a soloist is really helping me out in this new world. I’ve only put a few hrs in and I’m already over lvl 40 and have a rifle and fur armour. No tames yet.

Playing solo embodies what I feel being a real survivor would be like. Very alone, and consequences are huge when you fail. Nobody is there to tell you not to attempt something or rescue you when you fail. As you can imagine, I’m feeling philosophical after losing quite badly. But first, some good news!

I got quite bored with the yuty hunt, I wasn’t finding anything good to tame after a week of playing a ridiculous amount of hours. I was in need of good BPs, so I took my caving basilo and did loops of the map, grabbing deep sea loot crates and fighting alphas. I got a few pretty good things overall, an okay assault rifle, an asc argy saddle, m/c scuba leggings, a m/c yuty saddle.... but most importantly, I got asc fur pants and mc fur hat. A few more pieces and I’ll be well-armoured for the snow cave. I just need an actually good yuty.

So flash-forward to after I got all that loot. I decide I’m ready for a challenge so I slowly venture into the Caverns of Lost Hope (artifact of the Cunning). Things were going really well, and I had done the cave already. But then... 😭 I went to take care of a relatively low-lvl tuso. Everything in the room swarmed ( which happens, nbd) but I was getting swarmed too badly and clipping into the wall that I couldn’t land any actual hits on the creatures around me. I couldn’t move around, hit or escape. I just had to sit there and watch my best-ever basilo slowly die. When it did die, I fled for my life, but in the wrong direction. I actually tanked a hit from a mosa before dying.

After all the shenanigans, I’m up a few good BPs and a good amount of black pearls and I’m down a disposable argy, nice shotgun, expensive scuba leggings  and my best and only caving basilo. Everything else that I lost I don’t care about.

Suddenly, I feel like I’d rather fly around looking for yutys.

Its actually my first time using theris. For gamma dragon I succeeded with an experimental mammoth army. I used rexes for the monkey (cause I didn't have a good breeding line for any other boss creature). Luckily didn't lose a single one on alpha :). For spider (would use sloths but don't have a good breeding line for them yet) I also used rexes and had 11 losses on alpha. Theris I like because of the comparable stats to rexes and being agile. Rexes are pretty clumsy tbh and the dragon's breath kills them fast. Theris are actually pretty underrated for the other bosses and would be a good choice. What are your thoughts about them?

Sorry for the late reply lol. I haven’t used theris at all except to get fiber, so I have no idea what they’re like in a fight. After watching an ungodly amount of boss fight videos on YouTube, I do prefer the smaller size of the theri. Controlling rexs seems to give a lot of people grief in the arenas and tek cave.  That and that they do better against the dragon.

Raised theris for beta dragon fight. Bred a total of 25, so I had some extras in case I lost any for some reason before the fight. Lost a total of 3 during raising because of starvation (Out of range from my trough :(). Now I gotta level em by killing loads of baby dinos (While raising these I kept my rexes on mating so I have 100s of rex eggs to level these with).

How do you like using theris? I just started amassing my army and I’m nervous that I haven’t made the right Dino choice. I just prefer the size vs the Rex and I have access to a grotesque amount of veggies cakes..

Finally got a medium-level yuty for the snow cave/boss mount. I think. Lol. To recap, I’ve been searching for so long, I decided to make a very well-established taming hut, with power, between the two snow mountains near the coast. I got a bunch of low lvl ones for eggs, but now it’s time to focus on yutys that can fight.

I had a few pretty funny deaths in the snow biome while on yuty hunts, but I always managed to get on another bird and find all my stuff and my original mount. All’s well that ends well.

Currently torn between settling with the  semi-crappy yuty I have and trying the snow cave or continuing on the search. I have yet to see a max level or anything near that in my entire gameplay on the island. Tough call. Maybe I’ll use Semi-Crappy to get me into the cave just so I can establish an outpost. I just feel like doing something different would be nice but getting a good yuty is the critical task needed to progress.

I love taming yutys.  And when possible I prefer to use a trap too.  I understand the nerves, but that will go away after you tame a few of them.  The key (like many animals in ark) is in the preparation.

    1) Have a plan.  And it sounds like you do.  The trap is set up in a good location and I am guessing you have already picked out the best available path for kiting it there.

    2) Use a good strong mount that can take some abuse.  I prefer using argy.

    3) Clear the area of hostile creatures.  That area up north near your trap is crawling with wolves and carnos.  Take them out first before trying to kite.  Kill the carnos with the yuty as well if you can.  But, if that is hard then just let them get trapped with the yuty in your pen and then shoot them like fish in a barrel.

    4) Respect the roar, but don't fear it.  When I am ready to kite, I first rest the argy.  Then I take the argy in low to get the yuty's attention.  If the yuty roars and scares the argy... no big deal.  It will fly out of control for a moment but that is about all.  If your argy was rested and you were not in sprint mode (and you shouldn't be for this), then the argy should have plenty of stamina to stay in flight and out of harms way.  If needed, rest the argy, then try again.  Easy peasy.

    Good luck.

Exactly what you said would happen, happened. I’ve now got 1 male and 5 females (all lowest or low level) from my original tamed pair. I figured if I want to look for a potential a boss mount, I need to tame its parents with kibble. Extraordinary kibble is surprisingly easy to make, and I’m pretty well set up to make tons of it now. How exciting getting to a new level of kibble 🤟

So after hunting the low levels I definitely got used to it, I’m using my strongest imprinted argy and the valley I’m in has a lot of snipers nests where I can dismount and get a few long range shots in with a good rifle. I’ve been following @Penguin73’s advice and watching yuty taming video on the iPad as I hunt around.

Let me tell you how I got my original 2 egg layers 😂😂 Its hilarious because I spend an ungodly amount on hours preparing, making a mobile quetz taming platform and various huts and traps. First Yuty was on terrain too steep to build on so I just tranq’d it while dismounted from the argy then surrounded it with spiked walls. It was a hell of a fight and I almost lost it, but I managed to keep the nasties as bay by shooting and argy-ing (lol). Cryopoded and stored at volcano forge.

The second one makes me laugh the most... I was trying to kite it down the river to my trap when it got stuck underneath the ice. I was so heartbroken because it had been quite a struggle to get to that point. I thought maybe tranqing it and letting it wake up might dislodge it (when it stood up maybe? Who knows, worth a shot, it s a low level so it’s cheap on tranqs and food). It goes down, it’s completely submerged and I think it’s gonna drown. Cautiously, I approach and swim over to find that it’s not losing health or oxygen!  Interesting... pop a few pieces of meat in, it tames up, I cryo and store it at home at hidden lake. UN-real, this game. I spent hours and hours over several weeks preparing and I tamed the keystone to my kibble tier project underneath the ice.

Also, first time trying a screenshot. Let me know if it works 😉 Kinda makes me feel like I should start colouring my stuff! (P.s, for those looking, that’s not the rifle I used to tranq it, I like to store it as soon as it’s not needed).

Havent posted in a while, let alone play. I haven’t had a lot of time lately and I like to focus when I’m playing, so I’ve just put it off entirely until I can commit myself fully to it. Maybe tonight I’ll get a few hours in. Too many times in the past I wanted to play a quick hour or half hour before work, just to end up making a stupid mistake because I was rushed. I’m sure many of you have experienced this as well

But anyway, I wanted to mention this before I forget on my next post. It’s nothing exciting, but I started building a yuty trap on the coast between the two snow mountains. I noticed most high levels spawn in that valley, so I can kite them towards the water then into my trap. I built it next to a large ice feature, a pillar of sorts from which to shoot down from. I hope to tame my boss mount this way. My first yuty was a lvl 1 female just for eggs. I can finally make exceptional kibble!

im not sure why, but hunting yutys really makes me nervous. My heart rate is always high when I’m doing this and I need to take breaks to relax. Anyone else experience this? Maybe it’s cause of their fear roar and other bad things always spawn nearby...

sorry for the less interesting post, but it’s nice for me to be back!

Things are slow, but moving forward. My cautious approach to taming yutys has paid off and is actually hella fun. I’ve got a disposable argy on a quetz platform saddle which is also nice because I can keep my taming food from spoiling. As I don’t has a pair yet, I can’t make kibble but I got myself a low level yuty to start.

    The hunt continues

  17. @d1nk Thanks! I’ll reach out when I’m done this SP playthrough 😁

And put them to good use I did. I am now swimming in quetzals! I’ve got so many my base is bursting at the seams 😄 I’m keeping a few low lvl ones for egg-laying while I breed the best ones for a good workhorse. I kept myself a “safe” quetzal to lose, one that I can learn and make mistakes on without caring if it dies. While I was keeping an eye on the main breeding pair, I went to work on a platform saddle build. I made a quaint little hunting/taming deck, just large enough to land another flyer and not fall off the platform while dismounting 😅🤣 yup, I did try this out and failed multiple times before getting it right. ☠️

That’s my recent past, my future will likely see me trying to kill a giga While shooting from the platform. I know I need a heart for the dragon boss and it’s a good test to see if I’m confident enough with the quetz to then go tame a yutty using the same method.

    wish me luck!

Thanks for any tips I got on my recent posts, guys. I really take any advice to heart. I’m so excited to share with you what’s happened in the past few logins I can hardly contain myself. Before I do, I’d like to just vent my frustrations about some of the single player bugs; I attempted to do the caverns of lost faith (easy water cave) in order to farm loot drops.... the cave had no dinos, no loot drops but DID have the artifact. Dino wipe, wait, try again and nothing. Also, totally separate gripe, I had a storage box with all my spare artifacts (all collected legitimately with an otter from every cave I’ve been to) and it disappeared after the last major update. The whole storage box and its contents, I don’t understand why just that would disappear and nothing else. I’d understand more if the artifacts were spawned in but that’s not the case. 😢

I’ll try to summarize the good news:

    - I’m max level and just now have I found for the first time... a master craft longneck bp! Lots of you will be laughing but you try using Ramshackle and journeyman rifle to tame and kill things 😂🤣. I’ve been waiting soooo long for a longneck blueprint of ANY kind. I’m very happy with this for now.

    - I live at hidden lake on the north side of the island, the reasons being safety and scenery. Hands down the biggest thing I love about this spot is the variety  of (Usually safe) dinos that spawn there. Yesterday a low-lvl equus appeared and I just HAD to. I’ve always wanted to tame one but just never had the need, still don’t. It tamed up with one piece of kibble lol. His name is Eddie and I’m absolutely in LOVE with this creature!!! It’s not very useful at this point in my playthrough but I will for sure be going to try to tame this as a new survivor on the next maps after I ascend. A bittersweet victory, that one.

    - You guys should be happy with this one... tamed my first ever QUETZAL! yeah! I know. it’s a pretty big deal, try not to to get too jealous about it. In all seriousness, I never thought I’d be able to. My play style is being very cautious and focusing on preparedness. The idea of jumping off my argy and grappling it just made me cringe. I tried it a few times, but the whistle commands on Xbox are quite hard to do smoothly and I couldn’t trust that I’d be able to do it in the heat of the moment. I finally managed it using my Tapejara, switching to the front seat somewhere below the quetz and whistling on and off the bird. What a thrill! I haven’t had so much fun taming something in a very long time and unlike the horse, this one’s useful towards my end goal. We passed over the swamp, the redwoods, rivers... I was SURE I’d be losing it when it fell. I must’ve pleased the Ark gods at some point because it fell conveniently near a cliff where I was able to easily make a semi-circle of spiked walls around it. I never thought I’d be able to get one solo, but I did it. Soooo freakin happy. I’ll put it to good use, guys, I promise you that!

I don't have a bassilo yet on this play through but I loved them in my last game.  Had two, Nemo and Moby. lol.  I miss them.  Anyway, level the normal stuff (health, stamina, melee) and they will tank anything that comes your way.  Good times await you my friend.  Enjoy and good luck with the loot.  There is some good stuff in those caves.

Thanks for the tips! Basil and I faired just fine, thanks to this community for all your constant suggestions and support. Had I read that quote earlier, I would’ve named him Nemo! Lol. We cleared both water caves 😁 At one point in the harder cave we got swarmed by an alpha Megalodon, alpha mosa, all the fish in the room plus a large handful of dunklees. That was the largest battle of all the water fights and I think we only lost 7k health. I didn’t know there was a portion on land inside, and when I hopped off Basil to run around and have a look, I got chased by a bunch of spiders!! I definitely would’ve brought guns had I known there was dry land and other creatures. Huge fail, I’m sure there’s a drop up there that I had to leave behind. Oh well! Basil can handle things even better now, I can try to go see what’s there. To my dismay, the wiki has most cave maps, but not the water ones.

Coming down off the high from doing those two water caves, I wasn’t about to just sit around breeding. I’m an accomplished caver, after all. At this point, there was only two artifacts left to collect - swamp cave and snow cave.

Obviously the swamp cave was next. I had absorbent substrate from fishing, so I was able to make gas masks instead  of just using scuba. Took my caving bary, Ghillie (likely for the last time 😢), my best guns and Ghillie armour, and headed out. Our first encounter left us with less than half health, which shook my confidence. Alright, mass healing after each fight, got it. Being VERY careful at every step, I push thru the cave, always looking over at my iPad with the cave’s map on the screen so I don’t get lost. We got a few drops, mostly good Ghillie gear (which I won’t need anymore lol). Right before the artifact room we got swarmed again and an arthro broke all my armour. Threw on my contingency set and pushed on, but now this meant I had to leave the cave after getting the artifact instead of roaming around farming the drops. Oh well, definitely could have been worse and I did get the artifact and a drop or two.

I’m not sure what to work on next, really. It’s coming down to boss army breeding, choosing a Dino to use in the snow cave and breeding it, boss fight prep, farming deep sea loot cates ... my head is just spinning at this point. Life is so simple when all you have to do is caves😂

I’ll certainly take suggestions on what I should do next!

This last bit made Ark feel really grindy. I’ve been avoiding and putting off any type of real breeding but I’m at the point where it’s a must, or else I can’t progress. So, past 2 logins I’ve build a kibble farm outbuilding to keep those eggs separate from my boss eggs, made an ungodly amount of gunpowder, sparkpowder, narcotics and some various types of kibble. Basically, keeping myself busy with the suggestions you guys mentioned before while breeding basilos for a caving whale. I didn’t want to go crazy, but I went 2 generations past the parents just to get a few points into melee and health. Called him Basil (very original, I know). I also set up my 2 high-level boss theri tames in a corner so I’m ready to start breeding my boss fighters. I’m not using S+ but on my next play through I’m not gonna do any breeding without a hatchery and nanny. I’m just not a fan of waiting around for multiple types of timers to count down. Thinking about cranking my rates some more so it goes quicker.

I’m on Basil at the moment, my first time truly riding on a whale other than just moving them around for breeding. It feels clunky and awkward to steer around, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I DID recently come from riding a bary, after all, which is super nimble in comparison. Basil and I are off with some supplies, gonna go hunt down deep sea loot crates for the first time and get some levels on this new caver! Haven’t been this excited to play in a few weeks! 😁 Hopefully I can find some good loot, I play on reduced difficulty so crates and drops aren’t usually that good, although it’s my understanding that the deep sea loot crates generally have higher-tier items. I could fill a vault with all the water jar, metal dino gate and Gali saddle blueprints I get on the surface.

Ive been taking a break from taming and breeding the required dinos for my boss army to just chill on Herbi island and upgrade my outpost there while I hunted for basilos. I’ve probably put 5-6  real hours into trying to find good levels and just yesterday I found a max level female and an almost max level male. Not bad! After a bit of breeding, I’ll keep the parents in cryopods and use the offspring as my caving basilo so I have redundancies if I die.

I gotta figure out how to take screenshots on Xbox.. my little cabin looks pretty nice now, it’s a great place to hang out at night when you’re waiting for the daytime. Very scenic. I built a bridge across the bay so I’ve basically got a water taming pen now 😬
