The top comment concept provides the ability to climb vertically more like a Thylacoleo due to its size

Yes and this concept also make it an apex predator (scare + swallow) so no need to worry about the danger of Aberration and the spawn.

But this same concept makes the amphibian at least 2.5 times the size of a rockdrake. Even if you can climb, it will be too large to climb on mushrooms or some surfaces and will have difficulties moving in the caves, forests or near cliffs.

If it becomes a pain to play with on Aberration like the basilisk, it will be sad 😑

I find this creature very unique and cool and while I can agree it somewhat fits with the feel of aberration, there just isn't enough water to make this creature useful to the player. I've only read some of the dossiers (considering there are a few) but having a water based creature on a map that doesn't have an ocean and is a massive cave just doesn't make this creature feel right imo.

I am so glad to see this creature in the vote because Koolasuchus should have been added to the game by the devs from the beginning. I really hope it wins or gets second or third place in the creature rankings.

People want to see this creature in the game, so we should add this famous prehistoric amphibian.

Let's go, Koola, we believe in you !!! ❤️❤️❤️
You will become the best addition to Diplocaulus and Beelzebufo (ARK`s toad) !!! 😎

I like the ideas of aquatic and semi aquatic creatures in Ab a lot as we've hardly had the opportunity to get ones that are thematically fitting to the maps let alone just another creature that can swim. I especially think we need something capable of jumping at least small or medium height waterfalls in order to traverse the rivers and waterways that are in the maps better. Unfortunately the devs are truly not the best as designing good areas that play well with aquatic based creatures and they frequently delegate water to either hidden reaches of the maps that are hardly ever visited and never prominent enough to be used as a primary mode of transportation or they're only at the edges of the map like many of the island shaped map designs that are so common.

Maps that have water restricted to the borders mostly - The Island, Ragnarok, Lost Island.

Maps that have water but it is very shallow or intermittent and hardly substantial enough to be used by any truly big or major aquatic creature - Aberration

Maps that have water in enough of a concentrated volume but they are so out of the way and hidden in a section of the map that separates it from the rest of it too much - Valguero, Genesis 1 & 2, Extinction,

Maps with pretty much no water - Scorched Earth

Maps that actually do water semi okay - The Center, Crystal Isles, Fjordur.

Something I have wanted for a very long time is a sort of next edition Aberration Map or a DLC fully in the theme and setting of it, bringing new things and polishing the design of the map to give it new life and more flexibility to be used as an actual map people would want to base on and not just feel like they went down a pit just to scavenge what is there and leave. Another part of it I've wanted was for there to be an actual underwater cave system within it that is actually big enough and varied enough that someone who uses it could use it to travel to other parts of the map entirely, and the rivers and bodies of water big and significant enough to actually be something you don't just avoid.

Unfortunately this brings me to the point that Koolasuchus, while certainly an amazing and fitting choice for this map I'd love to see, as well as many other strange marine based creatures I also realize the tragedy that this maps waterways are way too shallow and choked with huge predators to actually use. Have you ever tried running on foot through the green zone rivers? In the western half its a nightmare because if it's not a huge crab in the way, a spino is charging into your face and your tripping over Mantas or getting stuck in jitter dances on top of Sarcos cause apparently they still won't fix that so we can't get picked up and pushed for no reason when we touch their back pixels.

I'd very much love this creature but is it really feasible to even use it? I have no problem supporting people's ideas for these guys but I worry, also another thing is Aggro. Medium class creatures truly have to go through Tartarus when traveling through Ab. The Basilisk still not having a large creature class and making it a target of everything under the sun. Will this creature be big enough to warrant that and will they ever update the Aggro tables and mechanics? What about Baryonyx attacks and shocks? The waters are filled with these creatures and what's stopping them from simply becoming an even greater threat than the hordes of things that fill the rivers in the green zone once you escape it?

Common Name: Koolasuchus

Species: Koolasuchus lumen

Time: Late Cretaceous

Diet: Carnivore

Temperament: Neutral

Wild

“Koolasuchus lumen is by far the largest amphibian I've ever stumbled upon. Its most noticeable feature is a bioluminescent tongue it uses as bait for fish, as well as glowing patterns on its body to scare off predators.

When threatened, this swamp dweller prefers not to attack. Instead, it will emanate red light from its mouth as an intimidation display. Also, its skin mimicks algae wiggling underwater, allowing Koolasuchus to hide perfectly in the dark bogs.

Koolasuchus does have something scary to it, though: its elastic jaws and digestive tract allow it to swallow its prey whole, even animals larger than it! Definitely a disturbing show.”

Domesticated

“Even though it's downright gross, Koolasuchus' digestion can be turned into a chemical weapon: once the creatures it swallowed are digested, it's able to spit out acidic bolus to defend itself, since the additional weight makes it rather sluggish.

All it takes to tame one is to hang around it and let it get used to your presence. At that point, it will stop trying to intimidate you and will gladly swallow any carcass you offer it. Just make sure not to get too close to that glowing, bottomless pit of a mouth.

It's a good mount to explore deeper caverns, for its ability to prevent radiation. Additionally, the pigments it secretes make some pretty paint.”

Introduction:

Greetings, survivors! I introduce to you the aberrant amphibian; the Koolasuchus!

IMG_3883.jpg

The foundational ideas and selling points for this temnospondyl include:

  • Role as a PvP brute thats powers its way through enemies

  • Red light green light taming method

  • Ability to eat and vomit enemy creatures

  • Chemistry bench saddle

  • General utility for traversing the map

Amphibian representation in ARK is severely lacking. The inclusion of one of the most iconic prehistoric amphibians with its exposure through Walking with Dinosaurs would make it a great addition and spice up the roster. It also fits Aberration incredibly well, as a big, hungry amphibian stalking the map’s waterways would make it a fairly great member of the subterranean swamps.

Wild:

The Koolasuchus is found in the green and blue zones of the derelict ARK, either swimming about in the waterways or hobbling across the land. They don't actively go after most creatures until they’re attacked or threatened. Survivors put them at unease, but won’t immediately go for a lunge.

Taming Process:

You need to approach a Koolasuchus cautiously. You’ll startle it, causing its mouth to glow red as a warning. When it is green, you will need to drag a corpse into its mouth similarly to an Otter or Hesperornis but for a wider variety of prey. If not fed in time, it will go about and ignore you until you approach it again. Once its appetite has been satisfied, it will be tamed!

Tamed:

Congratulations! You’ve successfully tamed a Koolasuchus! This bioluminescent behemoth will serve a variety of purposes and has tools to assist you with your life down in the caverns.

Actions:

  • Primary Attack (0x67jur7YSnkpbK9ebv8ju9RJ3BVOpB8CF0VASXIqCunTi7XbF3t6_7cmI7UYd1efKYe7U1YDPAPXJ4Vv-E9UEZEpdqR51HuHibNTGWWdP2k74Sx_JbODCXWciYuKYsuVrkWMEFXWYghfeoepijYc1s, qJOq1gFUxwDAiXuPFVTITjd7LZm_FjLihiFiUak1IbqAkFvH73OmbqOW5D5Zqb7BtxNScc7e1kDHqzSr7g3Si7zP3GrEDhNsfkmN-CNt1SD-pxf-1uEXMEY1fh3IBEaU5Kn3aQpiHZZbXphh2M_Omak, gd8OeO_oQo6VlFOX06xC3zrZ4IjS8O__EzIMf7z4W59oxSI-kKw1oRVMx5HpH9LYS8pKWCvPXXl85FoxsaroIPh0TLFRXON_OWKPWkMglzxJ50GRnLoH5TQyOpPkoOJQHa2Y2A-TmAArg3MpyzfBlyA): Pressing this attack once will open its mouth, draining from its charge reserves as it emits chargelight into the area around it. Press a second time to perform a basic bite attack. Performing this attack quickly will allow you to attack as normal.

  • Secondary Attack (3Q09q1vqMHioiiK4FElpWRQDDTDdIIMXVPY9A3rz5lsW2p6oictjyNaR45guT6St4X6FZ6S_ZNwUD2ST_i5yPZc5EPZF3113KHlCLqMSeWHMxXA--uiCy2teCv_xCyi9hVgcCXNYT7FkbMeZyU-AdVA, KJqu574vwXnLU_14G_AJsOi3gzIuPEmGZMvNVwmAuMjlCOliaOChFrukcZhcw8nh-DcOmkaGdJxJWHJFJYq8yrVm-XtWQ33N8iFbbeCZ5Eo5VR-mzRqYph5alkyFlQROo3Eoqvwis2dfDfgAW5md_9o, 9dpe7yDA9qTLmXGy-3QXUWN_TxK-Yy3Oqr96rRnLWJzh51TT9oKUGgi4x8XiuajKHjJlodJp2uPuMEDR7iaXUFXI299dv9RXlQUz2q6jZNnsyRhvI6F-ClrCfmUP-J8E44rmVNNzRFlIMhKXnETxT_w ):

    • Click: The Koolasuchus will lunge forward and gobble up any creature the size of a Wooly Rhino or under. Multiple creatures can be stored in its stomach, affecting its weight stat. The higher the total weight of the victims in its gut, the greater damage resistance it obtains. Said victims will also be affected by acidic damage over time, and must escape by attacking the beast’s insides. Increasing the Koola’s weight stat will increase its carrying capacity.

    • Hold: Similar to a Velonasaur, a reticle will appear and the Koolasuchus will be granted dynamic movement. Releasing the button will fire a target, using them as ammo. The target and any creatures, survivors, or structures will be hit by a big blast of stomach acid. The smaller the creature, the farther they travel when barfed up. This acid melts through even TEK structures.

  • Roar (Click C, pKzSUCSGAeqp3yZ6HJXkk41JD4WPUnBXEBZHEzjTnAglevYWJ995RtoSIzpad0AAEQ8qex8Rea2Pwql8wlQMdVzoFBMC276hKB_LCmeQoc7iU2770M5IQLCI12bVoxuRyW1b0ksHEphXnHiQddNpmGA, 2PLPVcYEz9A741gkZbwq4ra273PZ0APpb4rQE8Tnt9DWfDyI6_XNqqrwv10XbKTtp4f2AC0fhmZKIaXaEpGf5xp8hCOrDewTcWLq9-RT-TE_Ej8_aro4OyUr5bXnz0pRcoBBRzxK5ez95wWl-J--URM): A purely cosmetic roar.

  • Climb (Press Space, mMmLoPvOCer-iLHaIo9Jd52lX1pi51kDUnq_dxDewZa-j9Adey_6nqjygZix3XTMrEKFAKJV8I9ZBu7Ec8Pu0C1PvQHyWzkJCVERhCbwRjcR0iq8AbFBLH0-9bWAGL8xFSubrXP6slM4eQb3NSM3DWY, 7fkLQ0K9pcTC7oE-zcAdOdUOqCibTWGKe02W8azIzuTuyNPnUBRWlsXcADii_XspzmEZxynZopHaSyUivfG5SLYanDiw-O4vRUfF6_Vy3uPDgyQy5BQzF9eceW9H_PXsnbCSSkjp6jqpwhBTFnfUi8Y): When near a wall, the Koolasuchus will climb up it. It’s closer to a Thylacoleo’s climbing, being strictly vertical and non-dynamic. It also cannot climb while victims are in its stomach.

Passive Abilities:

  • Chargelight Reserves: Like a Morellatops, the Koolasuchus has a “tank”, though instead of water, its chargelight. Charge must be restored by killing other creatures like Glowbugs and glow pets, and is drained when the beast’s mouth is open.

  • Danger Glow: The inside of the Koolasuchus’ mouth will glow when near Max-Level Creatures, Enemy Survivors & Tames, and Nameless & Reapers with the respective colors.

  • Hydrated: The Koolasuchus gains the Hydrated status near bodies of water like Spinos, Shadowmanes, and Tropical Crystal Wyverns.

  • Toxic Skin: Mucus on the Koolasuchus’s body is toxic, and will induce torpor to enemies that hit them.

  • Immunities: The Koolasuchus is immune to radiation.

  • Koolasuchus Mucus: The Koolasuchus passively generates a substance called “Koolasuchus Mucus”. Said mucus grants radiation immunity to the wearer of affected armor. Creature saddles are not affected by this benefit.

  • Unique Saddle: The Koolasuchus’s saddle acts as a natural Chemistry Bench, though it does require gasoline to work. It also has enough seating for 4 people, and every rider is granted radiation immunity.

  • Great Loot (Wild Only): Wild Koolasuchus have a high chance to drop loot such as rare resources, dinosaur trophies, equipment, and blueprints due to their instinct to devour everything.

Utility & Scenarios:

PvE: Koolasuchus are great for general traversal of the map. Radiation resistance, chargelight, and climbing makes them exceptional when going to the lower reaches of the cavern system. Mucus produced by Koolasuchus also helps survivors themselves survive the irradiated depths without the necessity of Hazard or TEK armor. A built-in chemistry bench for portable crafting of precious substances is something every survivor will find great usage for. Untamed wild Koolas will also provide immense utility, through the loot they drop and being a good creature to grind.

PvP: Eating enemies alive is a very powerful ability. Shoving creatures into its stomach to deal damage-over-time is a great way to eliminate threats, and at the same time boosts the Koolasuchus’ defenses. It can be used for soaking if it has enough prey in its belly and general fighting, with severe damage resistance increases. Acidic vomit that melts through even TEK has strength that cannot be understated. This overall combination of these makes it an excellent raiding beast, at the front lines for sieges. With how slow it is while its stomach is full, certain faster creatures can take advantage of it. An increased hitbox also leaves it vulnerable to gunners and ranged attackers who have an easier time hitting it.

Conclusion:

Beelzebufo and Diplocaulus are the only amphibians in the entirety of ARK, which is incredibly sad. The introduction of Koolasuchus gives this family of animals more time in the spotlight, and will make life on Aberration all the more interesting and complex!

Have fun, survivors! #TooKool4School

Koola

Koola

Name: Koolasuchus macrognathus

Time: Early Cretaceous

Diet: Meat

Temperament: Watchful

33dPwaY.jpg

Wild

Watching the shore from the waterways of aberration is the largest amphibian I have ever encountered. Koolasuchus macrognathus rivals the sarco in terms of size and in some ways exceeds it in terms of power. Mainly found in the large lakes and swamps of the bioluminescent regions, Koolasuchus uses the glowing lining inside of its mouth to mesmerize prey-before lunging out of the water and delivering a massive, bone-crushing bite. Its skin also secretes a mild toxin that causes blurred vision in would-be predators. Interestingly, Koolasuchus is very resistant to radiation, meaning it can also be found in the element rivers of the cavernous depths.

While Koolasuchus is very powerful in water, its small legs and flabby body mean that it is rather slow on land. One should make a concerted effort to avoid combat with it in water. Out of water and away from the shoreline it quickly becomes less aggressive.

Taming

Koolasuchus’ saggy skin and bony head make it resistant to most conventional methods of delivering torpor such as arrows or darts. However, one can turn its vaunted lunge against it-by lobbing blunt-force or explosive projectiles into its mouth while it struggles about on land to get into position for a lunge, enough torpor can be delivered to knock it out.

Domesticated

Koolasuchus’ powerful bite and speed in water make it a very effective tame for traversing the waterways of aberration, as it can defend itself against some of the most terrifying creatures in the caves. However, many tribes have tamed Koolasuchus for another reason: the shed skin of the animal can be used to repair and craft HAZMAT suits, and the toxin secreted by the animal over time can be used to feed baby rock drakes, like nameless venom. Indeed, I have even seen some saddles that acted as a radiation-resistant ‘cockpit’, allowing the rider to explore the depths astride their amphibian friend even without a HAZMAT suit!

Sz57hdO.jpg

Features and Abilities

Koolasuchus is designed as an animal inbetween the Karkinos and Spino in terms of firepower, weight and HP.  As such it is useful for combat and for freighthauling.

. Koolasuchus is radiation resistant, meaning it can be used to explore the deeper caverns of aberration. It features a saddle that acts as a submersible cockpit that resists radiation, AoE poisons, and the grabbing ability of creatures like the mammoth, karkinos, flyers etc. However, be careful-while you are safe from radiation and these other issues while mounted, if you get off in an unsafe area without HAZMAT or the necessary precautions you will be vulnerable, so don't forget!

.  Koolasuchus produces 2 useful materials-Koola toxin and Koola skin. Koolasuchus, like a toad, secretes a milky venom from its skin. This slowly builds up in its inventory into a stack of 5. If you are unable to collect nameless venom Koola venom can be used as a substitute when rearing baby rock drakes. However it does not have the healing properties that nameless venom provides to rock drakes when force fed. Like all amphibians, Koolasuchus sheds its skin in large sloughing patches. shedding Koola skin is collected with scissors, much like wool from an Ovis, and can be used to repair HAZMAT suits as an alternative to Polymer. You will know when the maximum amount of skin can be harvested when it starts to sag on the creature.

. Used defensively, koolasuchus venom is mild, and when attacked the vision of the attacker will be blurred and slowed for a few seconds. It is only released as a defense mechanism when the creature is below half HP, hopefully buying it time to enter the water and swim away quickly.

. Koolasuchus has a sledgehammer bite that can cripple creatures it targets. Uppon a successful lunge the target is slowed and a large amount of damage is applied-however unlike the bite of the Allosaurus, which also slows its target, Damage Over Time is not applied and the only damage is applied with the initial strike. This will allow Koolasuchus to slow targets for other tames to pile onto in PVP. This attack must be charged for 3 seconds to be used and must be charged for 6 or 7 seconds to apply full damage, during which the Koola will be very slow. When wild, doing this on land can be turned against the Koolasuchus by firing stuff such into its mouth to apply torpor.

. Other attacks include a normal bite and a tail whip to lash at enemies to its rear. Like the sarco the Koola can also lunge around itself.

. Finally, because it's Kool: Koolasuchus is highly luminescent, and when swimming its mouth will gape open, acting as a high-power lantern! This does not apply charge to the area, so be sure to bring a charge pet along if you venture into the depths.
