This is yesterday, not today as sadly I can't play much during the week:
First I put up 4 S+ item collectors around our egg farm. Sadly we're not currently able to generate large quantities of propellant but I had enough for the day mainly to test it out. Very convenient, will be happy to have those doing all the annoying egg pickup work, especially around the small animals. I rarely use mod items, but given that none of my 4-man tribe has a lot of daily play time anymore, I'm doing my best to upgrade the utility of what we already have so we spend less time maintaining the city and more time doing whatever it is we want to do.
I then continued my hunt for the elusive unicorn and/or high level horse. I tamed one level 10 equus on Saturday just to test it out and I decided I really like them. They have a fair amount of utility and can travel long distances swiftly. Kicking annoying things in the face is always fun too.
I saw someone trying to tame a 130 rex and having a hard time of it, so I lured it down the volcano river to the server's public hatchery and taming pen and got him in there. It took awhile, but we got it done.
And off again to look for horses. It took quite a long time but I eventually came across a 145 male equus. The only problem was it was pretty far out from home base, none of my tribemates were on, and there were a lot of problematic animals in the area. I took down as many as I could and while doing so, the horse got himself stuck between a couple of small trees. My lucky day! After waffling for awhile I took the chance, jumped on his back and started shoving kibble in his mouth. He did get unstuck and ran wild, but thank the Arks for large mounts with low ground clearance. He kept getting stuck under my spino Korotangi's belly. She was unimpressed with the whole affair, but waited patiently until the successful tame.
So thankful you don't need the saddle to mount, it was an easy ride home. Ride the horse, put the spino on follow and let her dispatch anything in the way. We made it home safely. I never name a fresh tame until its safely inside the walls. Named him Talal, after a character in a book I recently read.
Threw a saddle on Talal, left Korotangi at home and went off to go exploring a bit. Sadly, a stupid bird stole the rest of my kibble (enough for 2 more max level equus) so I went back to the public hatchery to restock, as it has a few small groups of rare/annoying to tame animals for anyone to collect eggs from. Got enough for a 150 and was heading home when disaster struck. Microraptors ambushed us in that one small strip of river by the volcano where they spawn. The commotion attracted dilos and troodons. Being stunned, all I could do was watch my new horse get attacked, didn't even have any level points invested in him yet. Crap.
Eventually I died, respawned in the city and grabbed the closest spino I could find--my tribemates' Rogue. Sprinted all the way back to the river from Weathertop and saved Talal, but only just barely. Whew. Gave him a few minutes to regen a little bit while I collected my gear, started home and got hit by microraptors a second time. Thankfully Rogue was having none of that and got rid of the little buggers. I almost lost Talal a second time when passing between the edge of the redwood and the swamp, when we got attacked again but Rogue was just a little too far away to "see" the attack and help, had to go ride back to him. That was scary.
By the time we made it back into the safety of the city gates again, I was done for the day. It was too close to an event from the patch when gallis were first released. I tamed one, took it out for a test ride and it got stuck in some rocks/trees and was hit in the crossfire of a wild rex vs. bronto, died before I could even chop down the tree she was stuck on. And unlike the galli, the horse is actually useful, so I want to hold onto Talal. He doesn't have any standout stats but he'll do well enough as he is. Just far away from micoraptors.
