Gigas have been in ARK since back in 2015, when the game first released. Back then, there wasn’t much that could contest them. With the release of wyverns, reapers, and other powerful carnivores I feel like they’ve been a little more balanced out. However, with the somewhat recent release of carchars, there is virtually no reason to tame a giga now. They (arguably) require more effort to tame, do less damage ridden due to carchars “berserk” meter, lack any patterns or cool design (excluding the r-giga) on them, and have the “rage meter” penalty. The only reason to pick a giga over a carchar is for their higher base damage. But what if gigas got a rework?
My suggestion:
Gigas should get new and polished attacks. Currently, they only have the generic bite attack, and a roar that does absolutely nothing aside from sounding cool. I suggest that they keep their bite attack, but also get a thrash attack. How would it work? Well, they could target and pick up any dino that’s allo-sized or smaller with their mouths, and then thrash them until either the Dino breaks free (similar to how you can break free from a blood stalker hold) or dies. This would also apply a few seconds of bleed damage upon escaping. However, if the Dino happens to be too large for the giga to pick up, then it would simply be a lunge forward & bite attack that can apply a few seconds of bleed to a big dino. But that’s not all! Since the carchar’s roar gives it a boost that increases its speed, I’m also suggesting that the giga roar decreases it’s stamina consumption. Since stamina is something that they struggle with, I think this would be a nice change.
The giga model should get reworked. It doesn’t have to look too different to the current giga, but maybe just making it look polished and newer could work. If the devs would be willing, maybe they could give the regular, dull-looking gigas a striped or spotted pattern, too. I feel like they deserve at least getting polished/remodeled. I’m not proposing a size change or anything like that— after all, that’d totally change them and it wouldn’t be fun at all.
