  1. That's very true, but in my experience, the code is super small compared to the assets. From reading up about it it sounded like it was not the disk space but the RAM used and I can see that being the case - but only for the candies! For instance, in each container, if you're storing 1000 metal, you only need to save the ID for "metal" and the number 1000 -> two numbers. For candies though, it's much different. Since each candy changes different colours, each candy needs to be saved separately and with the colour IDs for each of the 5 colour slots it changes. That means the ID for the
  2. I just want them to bring back allowing us to run the events for longer. I don't understand why they have to remove the assets - they can't take up that much space on disk? Compared to the full size of the game and DLCs, what's a few reskins of dinos and a couple of extra assets (like Raptor Claus, but not cosmetics - all skins will still need to exist as they can be used after the event). Why can't they let us running our own servers decide for ourselves? Especially when they used to allow it...
  3. Yeah, I know. I don't understand why they do it though. I keep hoping that they won't remove all the assets! But more than that, I wish they would just tell us!! I mean - there's no way they don't know already whether they'll forcefully remove all the assets. So why not be upfront about it? I really don't understand the reason for avoiding it. It's so frustrating! Also, I find it so stressful to have to play during a set time, so much that I can't enjoy the event at all. This is my favourite event and I'm avoiding it because it makes me feel too bad to try to join in. After this year, I
  4. Sounds really cool! Thanks for that But... will unofficials be able to have it? And please - can you confirm whether ActiveEvent=WinterWonderland will work after you end the event on official servers?
  5. So, the event starts at 1am my time. Anyone know how long the event usually lasts? If it's several hours, it's not worth staying up But I'd really like to if it's somewhat near that time... I've never caught them before, anyone that's watched previous years who knows how long the event usually lasts for?
  6. I don't believe this is true. I haven't looked into the code so bear with me that the knowledge I'm about to share is purely anecdotal. I'm on PC and for PC there is a program that reads the save file for dino locations. With that I can search specifically for Unicorns and find out exactly where they are on the map, if one exists. I'm running a private dedicated server that's set to Multiplayer and I play on The Island. What I found with testing using the program mentioned above and the destroyallwilddinos command (used at strartup for the server) is that when my tamed unicorns were
  7. @d1nk I just saw someone who tweeted to them. Was that you? Really tempted to create a Twitter account just to start tweeting them about making events run for longer!
  8. Really nice posting this here as well for information I've seen on some posts that a moderator has "recommended" another post for viewing, and that appeared right on top of the original post (iirc). Maybe that would be even better to make sure people clicking in on this post sees it right away, especially if it happens that it gets a lot or replies so this gets buried in an earlier page.
  9. The thing most important to me in all of ARK: Please would you kindly confirm whether the event will be possible to extend on unofficials or if it will be force-ended on December 8th? I would so very much appreciate a confirmation on what will happen, rather than it being a nasty surprise. Having that said, I can't stress how important it is for me to enjoy the events, that I can extend them at my leisure. Would you please consider making all events extensible? I don't care if you have to remove event stuff when the event ends, but please let them stay in the game for as long as the event
  10. Especially since I can't see the reason for it. I found a suggestion about it (linked it so feel free to share it around and get as many as possible to vote for it ) and there several people quoted that the official reason for it was performance and specifically memory on devices. But I fail to see that there isn't a way around that without having to force-end events. If they're not going to respect the -ActiveEvent argument, they should remove it! Edit: They quoted the guy who kept asking about Onyc breeding on Twitter, so maybe we should all start requesting it (respectfull
  11. Do I understand you correctly that it's not a problem that the assets are on disk, but that the assets exist in game increasing the size of the save file on disk, i.e. the memory used? In that case - I would still be fine with them removing the items when the event was over, but as long as we run the event, through the -ActiveEvent argument, it wouldn't remove it! I would be fine with them only keeping the latest version. Usually, I just want to make them last longer, which I assumed was the most common use case. Even when bringing them back later the same year, I don't see a prob
  12. Yeah, it really breaks my heart. I've barely played this whole year since last Winter Wonderland when it was introduced because it just makes the game feel like a job and not fun (since I have to conform to a schedule). I think when they introduced it, they said it was due to performance reasons. But why not make them perishables instead? The chocolate hearts were... Or, I would even be fine with it being removed once the event is over if they would just leave it for as long as -ActiveEvent was set! Like, even if they stop having the event on Official, if it's set on my unofficial - don't
  13. You're right! I could've sworn I had some eggs left from the Easter event (didn't play during summer). I just logged in to check, while using -ActiveEvent=FearEvolved, and you're right - no more candy corn spawn, no more candy corn and I can't find the eggs anywhere. I'll hold off on playing this save until Turkey Trials start - maybe during an event, they don't remove stuff? It's worth a try. Either way - it means they took away the possibility of extending events. That sucks so bad, I lost all will to play Too stressful to feel forced to play when they want me to.
  14. I think everybody got the Noglin Chibis regardless of what expansion packs we have or whether we donated. I assumed it's to generate hype/advertise Genesis: Part 2 and not a reward.
  15. I don't think that's the case anymore. I'm still running the Thanksgiving event on my server and have been running the other events longer. I think the removing of event items was a one time thing for the Valentine's event to fix the event items because I still have event items from previous events (even events I no longer have active), specifically the candy. Well, maybe two time thing as they first removed the ability to run events longer for the last Winter Wonderland. OMG I really hope they don't plan to prevent us from running this year's Winter Wonderland for as long as we want.
