Zalophus japonicus, Your Under The Sea Healer
ApocalypseGal posted a suggestion in Creature Submissions
Name: Japanese sea lion Species: Zalophus japonicus Time: 1970’s Diet: Carnivore/Piscivore Temperament: Friendly, Playful Sea lions are known by their exterior ear flaps, their long fore flippers, and a big chest and belly. They have a thick layer of short fur that covers a thick layer of blubber which keeps them warm in the sea. Wild: You will be able to spot these aquatic mammals spending there day relaxing on the ark’s beaches/coasts or swimming through the sea hunting for their desired food, they these versatile hunters can be found hunting alone or in packs, they are able to catch fish and other small marine creatures at ease. They are very playful social animals you may even see them playing with each other, you might even spot them swimming and playing with the dolphins. I have heard from other tribes that they are so friendly that they would even swim right up and try to befriend you. I also heard stories about how these creatures have been spotted saving those at sea. These sealions have adapted to be agile, not only are they able to navigate the sea at great speed just like the Ichthyosaurus, but they too can move decently on land also. Domesticated: Once you have tamed one, they become a valuable companion, there swimming abilities make them an excellent water exploration mount. They seem to be able to sense when people are in danger and are quick to notify and aid those in need. over time they create oil just like the basilo/tuso. Abilities and features these are just some of the idea’s I had imagined for some features of Zalophus. Lifeguard: this would be a sense allowing them to detect when a survivor is in low in oxygen and in danger. Breath of fresh air: Zalophus can blow bubbles which will replenish survivor’s oxygen, giving them that extra time to make it to the surface. Air/healing bubbles: a separate ability when they spin/splash about in the sea creating air bubbles with a range around Zalophus, these air bubbles could act providing air to multiple survivors/tames for a period of time within the bubble range, it could also have a healing affect within that range and only for this ability. Insulation: Since their body is made up of thick blubber with an added layer of short fur to keep them warm, I think they should be able to provide a insulation to keep survivors warmer in the cold sea Shock resistant: since they have thick blubber it could make them resistant to the shocks of eels and jellyfish. Oil supply: naturally generates oil after a period of time. agile swimmers: are incredibly fast and can navigate the sea very well. pack boost: with other sealions/Ichthyosaurus. Perform: They are able to preform a clapping animation that gives passive xp to nearby dinosaurs. Behavior: The sea lions are not aggressive until they are attacked, they are super friendly and will even approach survivors. If attacked, they can fight back by biting or with a fin/tail thump. Drops: Raw Meat Raw Prime Meat Oil Blubber Taming: Many of you may be wondering how to tame your own Zalo. To do so, you must first offer its desired food passively (fish or kibble later game) to it. After doing so, it will then allow you to hold onto it and swim along with it. While swimming along with the Zalo, you will need to feed it more of its preferred food. It will pop up notifying you when to feed it, failing to feed it on time will cause you not only to lose taming effectiveness but it will also dismount you and stun you by slapping you with its tail. You will be able to re-approach and continue taming by offering them their preferred food and repeating the process. (Note. Getting knocked off doesn't reset your taming progress however it does lower your taming effectiveness) You can learn more about Japanese sea lions from these sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_sea_lion , https://www.today.com/pets/dolphin-seal-are-underwater-bffs-flna878362 -
Josephoartigasia - The Giant Amphibious Capybara
roy3100 posted a suggestion in Creature Submissions
Josephoartigasia was a species of giant rodent that was native to South America during the Pliocene. With upper estimates putting its size near that of an American Bison, it was a massive animal. This size gives it the title of the largest rodent that has ever lived. It is thought to have lived a life similar to modern Capybaras, and this is seen on full display in Ark. These giant, sem-aquatic rodents are valuable tames that make traversing Valgueros biomes easy and exciting! Abilities: Bite: A basic bite that can deal damage and collect resources. Pacify: Modern Capybaras are renowned for their relaxed demeanor and ability to coexist peacefully with a wide number of species. As a direct result of coexisting with so many predators, Josephoartigasia has taken this a step further. Like their modern relatives, their fur is oily. This oil, which covers most of their dense fur, secretes a serum that pacifies nearby creatures. Both wild and tamed Josephoartigasia will be ignored by the majority of carnivores. Oil/Serum: The aforementioned oil is passively secreted by both wild and tamed rodents. Once tamed, this oil can be collected from Josephoartigasia. Once collected, it can be refined into a new form of darts that act as the opposite of those created from Ammonite bile. Instead of enraging creatures, these darts pacify them. This can make taming normally aggressive creatures much easier. If one does not wish to make darts, they can simply rub the oil on themselves. This will make any survivor much more tolerable to nearby creatures. Water Buff: Like the Spino, these rodents receive a speed and damage buff after coming into contact with water. Oxygen: The oil in their fur is able to absorb oxygen. When ridden, this oxygen can be transmitted to the rider. This means you can do deep water exploration without scuba gear while riding. This acts as a lower-tier step leading up to the submarine. Chomp and Gnaw: Rodents have some of the most durable teeth in nature, and Josephoartigasia is no different. They can wear down and break all structures below metal and tek very quickly by gnawing on them. Damage Sponge: The thick coating of oil on their fur gives them an added layer of protection. While still felt, direct hits from other creatures and melee weapons do less damage as they slide right through the fur without fully hitting the animal itself. This means they can take more damage then one would expect, and can stay in combat for longer periods of time. All Terrain: These rodents are just as fast in the water as they are on land. They lack an oxygen stat, meaning you won’t have to worry about them drawing during deep water explorations. Behavior: Josephoartigasia are passive creatures, and are content with survivors approaching them. While not completely tied to the water, they are most comfortable around it. They spend most of the day in the water, with brief trips to the land to graze. At night, they’re more terrestrial and spend more time grazing on land. When attacked, they will fight back but will flee if their health is too low. Before fleeing, they’ll attempt to pacify their attacker. If that fails, they continue to flee back to the water. Taming Method: Josephoartigasia can be passively tamed. While mainly feeding on berries and aquatic foliage, they like to gnaw and wood to maintain the condition of their teeth. In order to tame these massive rodents, you’ll need to place thatch or wooden structures near them. Eventually they’ll approach the structure and begin gnawing on it. The bigger the structure, the more effective the process will be. While they’re preoccupied, you can passively feed them their preferred food, honey. Repeat until tamed! Saddle: Josephoartigasia needs a saddle to be ridden, and survivors can equip them with two saddles. The first is a basic saddle that can be unlocked at level 40. The next saddle can be unlocked at level 70, and is a basic submarine saddle. Keep in mind that the submarine is limited in space as the Josephoartigasia is essentially the same size as a Trike, but it’s still big enough for two survivors. The saddle can be equipped with grapplers and harpoons for added defense. As long as you’re riding the creature, you’ll have oxygen from inside the submarine. Image Description: Basic idea of the look of the submarine. In game, it would rest on the creature's back. Additional Notes/Information: Size similar to that of a Trike. Visual inspiration is taken mainly from a capybara, but with a longer stockier tail. When wild Josephoartigasia are submerged in water, they’ll stick the top of their heads out like a hippo. Color patterns should be similar to that of a Pacarana, a rodent species pictured below.-

I'd love a prehistoric leopard seal esque creature that while limited on lands will still give a survivors a run for their money, and in water is like a fighter jet under the seas I'd love for it to excel in gathering organic polymer (more so than the clubs you mad men and women) Insulation bonus A type of electric receptors to hunt in the murky waters that works similar to the bats echolocation Perhaps a move to immediately U-turn in the water and gain a movement speed buff and more Perhaps a slipstream buff when nearing other water creatures similar to the Troph And maybe give them a grab for small creatures that makes the bite attack just a brutal thrash and slam the poor thing into a ground to really sell the savagery :3 and a cute land flop to sell the cuteness ^-^ Maybes - those chompers a bleed or level of armor penetration when tamed or wild and tamed just to make them more threatening ;3 Maybes - The streamline idea or a type of "lateral line" pressure sense that makes invisible imaginative non-existent water currents to buff it's speed Maybes - have ability to jump from the water to body slam or grab flyers straight from the air to drown them (Sorry Pelagornis, not sorry Icthyornis)
