I've been looking at that creature too, and it seems to be the megalania or giant komodo dragon. Considering komodo dragons irl are found in arid environs, they are hinting at the desert biome even more.

As for the bottom left picture, i'll take another look This afternoon, its the morning atm.

Also, this afternoon, i'll probably post my name ideas.

No whyyy, whyyy did they do this to my poor Megalania

Also on the edges of the picture of the megalania it looks like maybe those are the ant lions mouth peices

    Post a link when finished

well...... your preception of my post made you feel the need to respond... that says a lot about your character..

I was pointing out the facts as politely as i could i agree with you and i have high hopes for this game. I find it laughable and sad that you precieved me as saying

Team WC is "godly" but they never once did i say that and i don,t feel like i need to rejustify my post. your responce is honest and you have a right to say how you feel about it. but dont for a second think that you "told me off" all you did is reinforce my last sentence. and for that i sincerly thank you Scorpio.

Well don't you seem like a hypocrit as you felt the need respond to my comment because it obviously annoyed you to some extent that I defended the people who disagree with you

Hmmmm it seems you don't understand what a simile is

Let me explain to you what a simile is: a simile is when you compare something to something by using "like"

That being said I never said you said the devs we're godly, but you're response to that part of my post which was not even close to my main point (it was just a light joke) proves that I must of struck a nerve

And just like you said I never said anywhere that I so called "told you off" but just the fact that you felt the need to respond with that says a lot about your character

By the way thanks for the interesting conversation it's also interesting to see we actually agreed with each other over some of are points yet you couldn't disprove any of mine

Hope you have a good day sir and Goodluck with your flood issue I hope it gets solved and Ark keeps helping you ignore that issue

I get what he is saying to a point but there is the option to move out of Louisiana. I mean it's a great state and all, the food, not to mention Marti Gras,  but if you are an adult you have the choice to move and you chose to live there knowing that most, if not all of the state is below sea level and the risk of major, catastrophic flooding is real. If you cannot move for one reason or another I feel for you but knowing there is other options and still choosing to stay in the path of possible destruction is IMO ridiculous.  Call me cold hearted, but I would bet I'm not the only one to think this

Very true that is another option to ease the situation and possibly he's staying there for the sentimental value of his childhood but either way his real life problem is no one elses, furthermore everyone else already has their on problems which is why  you don't bring your real life problems into a gaming forum in the first place

Hope I don't sound to cold or harsh either but sadly it's are reality (ok now I sound emo lol)

    Visual Break down

So into the detailed and worded break down:

The creature itself is an insect or arthropod or [insert correct class].

It is quite large compared too us humans, we are somewhere between a 1/3 - 1/6 of its size.

The egg and collar symbols, which mean tameability and the egg i assume means it either does/doesn't lay eggs and/or if it can be bred. Both have crosses next to them, so they aren't tameable and either don't lay eggs and/or can't be bred.

The colour scheme displayed in the picture strongly suggests that it lives in the desert, which makes sense in correspondence to the next bit.

It has a bear trap symbol as well, it doesn't display a tick or cross for it though so it isn't certain that this actually a part of it, but why include it when it is going to br crossed (thats my logic anyway). The symbol if ticked most likely means that the creature can grap and pin dinosaurs where they are, similar to bear traps And is probably why it has the picture of its teeth or claws sticking out of the sand with the rest buried. So living in the desert makes burrowing easier because of the sand.

If you believe me to be wrong in parts of this, then please do tell. Also if you think i missed something tell me, I like to hear others thoughts and opinions.

I think your theory is pretty much flawless

But even though I don't like this one, there has been one thing bothering me when I analyzed it

For example the bottom left  picture looks nothing like the above illustrated creature since it has almost more dinosaur features instead of bug ones

Lastly it looks more like  [insert dinosaur name] is trapped by the giant antlion larvae and the people are trying to free there trusted and faithful pet from its grasp as its being pulled down into its imminent death

I feel it is important to adress the consistant whining going on about the mysterious mysteries and the updates.

Please allow me to remind everyone of some key points you miss when complaining. Wild Card had the kindness to care about its fans to not only release it early but to let us have a say in how the game is made. you all act like this entitles you to have final say on the game when in reality you do not.

secondly my obversation on the mysteries...... I am in THE Mother of all floods in Walker LA right now but by the grace of God find myself one of the lucky people with internet. so imagine me waking up just to see if there is something new teased about this amazing game just to have it ruined by a bunch of self entitled cry babies. I am Overjoyed by the mysteries it keeps my mind of the literal hell my family is stuck in. so count yourselves lucky.

Finally a apology to GP and moderators and ARK devs for this rant at my fellow survivors. They honestly don,t deserve such a wonderful amazing game let alone early acsses. I cpme froma day where i had to stick a quarter in a machine to get 5 minutes of enjoyment on a space invaders game and now we live in a time where i can get on ARK and keep my familys mind off the fact that downtown is under 12 feet of water!

so to those of you upset and dissapointed at Wildcard......you have the right but look in the mirror and ask. yourself. "how does this make me look to people with REAL problems".

Hmm you have quite a few strong opinions there, however just as you are are entitled to a opinion so is everyone else, moreover just incase you we're addressing me along with some other so called "whiners" I'm going to give my 2 cents on what you claim and others like you may

First off let me start by saying ark is probably my most preferred and favorite game of all time which is part of the reason for my greater disappointment

Secondly stop making them sound godly lol even if they did make most likely everyone's favorite game who's most likely here and you contradict yourself by saying wildcard allowed us to give our opinions out of the "kindness" of there hearts yet you want us not to give an opinion, pretty ironic. Although this is pretty kind of the devs to allow us so much involvement, the main reason for that is because it's early access is so devs can not only make money to make the game better it's also to get opinions from the players before release so some of the bad features are out on release and more good ones are added

So on that note the good opinions are just as good as the bad ones as long as they are constructive and not just a nonsensical rant

Also what are you even talking about?the reason people play games is to escape bad problems in reality for even just a brief moment or for fun, you even stated so yourself so why would you tell people to deal with others with problems? When there are already many associations if donated to, to help with those situations and even insurance for those who can afford it. So why are you trying to put a false since of guiltiness on people who are also trying to escape reality, that you also have no true relization of the other people (including my) real life situation.

lastly I am sorry for you and your family being in a bad flood right now however just because you're in a bad situation doesn't mean anybody else on this forum in it or make your opinion any hire valued.

That thing in the community crunch, yeah this isn't it. If you check both the xbox and pc patch notes they both say "something else big" or something like that.

This is just the art team trying give us all nightmares, his one of which was inspired by the great pit of carkoon. RIP Boba Fett, I hope you don't play ark.

Oh ok well I guess that's a relief, besides the fact it's no longer Monday, so it's impossible for them to surprise us this Monday now

It's okay to be disappointed. These mysterious mystery dossiers are nice and all, but we are definitely at the "you were allowed to help us shape the game, but now it's time to get super secret!" phase again. It's tough to back to that since we were treated with weekly patches with 1-2 creatures in the beginning.
Currently the next patch with nothing special in it is taking a month to release. 2 creatures and items already present in the game(Obelisks worked just fine) or in mods(hangar doors).
They are of course crunching away at all their little secrets behind the curtain and I hope they're on schedule. Hopefully we'll get something a little more exciting at PAX Prime and not just a couple of dossiers, another image tease or a mod going official. We really don't need more of that when they already got their hands full. Having to support more is just a death sentence for the release date

Ikr I missed those days with all the updates, new dinosaurs, and all the hype in general :(

  8. I'm disappointed

1st Why do all (most) of the giant bugs have to be untameable

2nd why do they all have to be just a nuisance

Finally yesterday in the community crunch you made it sound like we we're going to get something truly amazing, like a cool tameable new creature like maybe daeodon or Koolasuchus but instead we got a untameable worm catapillar thing

However I'm not saying people won't like this mysterious mystery because I'm sure people will and I'm happy for those people but I'm just disappointed in this creature, maybe it's just because I'm picky

@J Now that I look at mine agian, I like @Scorpio didn't say it wasn't prehistoric, atleast not in plain sight, as I may have done in between the lines. Like I said before I don't recall what was going through my head at the time. Still... I didn't make any acknowledgement of the fact so I'll still say that I did miss it indeed.

This argument should have been long dead anyways, but hopefully now it's officially laid to rest.

Now for more important matters, will we get another mysterious mystery or an actual dossier lol

  10. 24 minutes ago, J said:

See that's where your're both missing the point. I never said it was prehistoric. I know it's made up. But that definitely doesn't make it modern

That's true you didn't, but I also never accused you, I was more or less addressing everyone who thought they we're just because they happened to be in a mostly prehistoric animal game

And you're right they are technically a purely fantasy creature with the exact same name and enlarged bodyly features of the current extant species

  11. 20 hours ago, DaEndGame said:

I must wonder, what do you think the chances of the devs actually naming it that or making it part of the name.

Also, slight expansion on the name: Gloriaquasi lumenflospedibussex

Gloriaquasi is laten for butterfly like with the space removed.

Also considering we have a suggested latin name down we could get some suggestions for a common name.

Here's my suggestions some far for common names:

    • Lumen
    • Desert Locust

I doubt it would get that name considering we are all still unsure of what even it is (I think it's a firefly) and we don't even know if the devs read the mysterious mystery comments

But there is a chance considering they named the ape boss Megapithicus after it was suggested by blackfish

im one of those.. im not getting the hype like i used to for this one,, the volture or the other one. A mantis?

idk but im 100% sure im not the only one that dont like the fact that they are adding "modern" creatures

I feel you, I'm not really getting hype vibes from these mystery dossiers as I got from the more complete dossiers either, mainly because I feel like these are half done and not knowing what it does for sure doesn't help

I was also hoping for some more prehistoric favorites like daeodon and Koolasuchus but if we keep getting "these" dossiers I feel like that might not happen. But don't get me wrong these dossiers are okay but I just wished they gave them a real prehistoric species name eventually, I mean how hard would it be to find a prehistoric firefly on the internet?

  12. 3 hours ago, DaEndGame said:

    Perhaps lumenflospedibussex.

It's the latin words for six legged torch flower without any spaces in between.

It has six legs right? I can't tell myself! Please do correct me if I'm wrong so that I can correct it.

    Edited: Lumen for short?

That's actually the perfect name and it fits it's design

    4 hours ago, DaEndGame said:

On that note, please do tell where on earth butterfly's got their name, in what universe do they have anything to do with butter!?

(thats rhetorical, don't answer that as it clearly has something to do with butter, hence the name butterfly)

Well again, ARK is a science fiction game. It's not meant to be accurate, and I actually like Castoroides as it is now more than the dossier. It's much more useful. Titanosaur, I also completely understand. That thing would be overpowered, and I think the devs realized that.

People need to stop griping on ark for a lot of things, but it probably won't happen.

True they still have some accurate ones as well, also I just think people may be more irritated about negative changes in the dossiers like the megapiranna not being tameable, the manta being aggressive and requiring a saddle, the plesiosaurus being aggressive, and of course you mentioned the Titanosaur

But yeah the people that whine don't help, but the people who give  constructive criticism do

Also I hope they bring back normal dossiers

  14. 4 minutes ago, Zadira said:

Ohh... I think the lightening bug idea has some merit!  Maybe they are like the angler fish and we can use their oil to light our torches!!!

That's an actually pretty neat Idea. Maybe it could also be a good beginner tame that can keep up with you and light the way

  15. 4 minutes ago, Bluenitemare said:

I'm just gonna say this, it's a prehistoric butterfly

I thought that too but look closely at the first pair of wings which look like the protective shell like wings a beetle or a lightning bug may have, however it also looks like a butterfly so maybe it's a hybrid?

  16. 1 minute ago, Shadlos said:

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, partner. Interesting concept, anyway. Loving these mysterious mysteries, but i'd like a good ol fashioned normal dossier reveal, ya know?

Same these are starting to get repetitive

I think the reason the devs are doing these is so they don't get any backlash from people that only like prehistoric animals and so they can change anything about an animal before it's release without community backlash saying that's not what the dossier said

  17. So I'm going to go ahead and take a guess and say that the green one produces water because there's a arrow pointing to the water container and I'm guessing the red one produces oil because of the oil barrel pointing to it

I'm also going to guess that they are tameable because it looks like the guy is milking ones legs? And its back pouch?

Or that you hunt them because of the guy pouring something out of the pouch thing that was on the butterfly/lightning bugs back

It also seems relatively big judging by the picture and I also think that the male might be red and the female may be green

It's also possible that they collect water and oil or produce it or maybe both

I don't recall ever seeing a dung Beatle or snail the size of dogs

And I don't recall them giving it a known prehistoric giant snail or giant dung beetle scientific name like all the other prehistoric creatures ingame have but instead they have kept their extant scientific name

And also that's because ark took creative freedom and mutated the modern versions, so don't act like just because "things are bigger or you haven't seen it so that means they must be prehistoric" because that's simply not true

But don't get me wrong there's still a huge chance there was a snail or dung beetle that big because of the fact the fossil record only has a small fraction of the prehistoric creatures on earth but that also means that our chances of finding a fossil is slim since we haven't found one already

  19. 14 hours ago, DaEndGame said:

Oh, didn't realise as my knowledge on the actual names is not that large. Also you wouldn't believe how hard my friends try to correct me, it quote funny actually how hard most of them try...   Then fail once I point out their invalid logic or that what they corrected me one was correct.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I always try to make it at detailed as possible and accurate as I can manage.

No problem I should also not expect everyone knows or looks at their scientific name

Also my bad if I came off as a ***hole lol

  20. 7 hours ago, ranger1presents said:

Scorpio, not to put too fine a point on it, but none of the creatures you mentioned are modern.  All are purely fictional, and loosely based on a combination of (usually) fossil evidence and/or combined traits.

All of the creatures differ significantly from any modern creature, even the lowly Coelacanths (in ARK they provide flesh fit to eat).  They were all given unique scientific names to make this clear, and silly game mechanics each creature possesses aside, tend to differ from "modern" creatures significantly in other ways as well... most often by a dramatic difference in size.

Using your rather liberal (and inaccurate) definition of a "modern animal" you could also say that a Sarco is just a large modern croc, a Kairuku is just a oversized modern penguin, and a Dire Wolf is just a modern wolf blown up to pony size... none of which is correct.

Now if they put, say, a horse in game... gave it a silly ability (which is a given)... and labeled it Equus Ferus Caballus... then you would be correct.  However if they put in a Eohippus, or a Tarpan, those are not modern creatures (they are all extinct, some fairly recently).

Not that it matters really, ARK is not a game about prehistoric creatures.  it is a game filled with either extinct creatures (usually fantasy variations that are only loosely based on actual extinct creatures), or purely fantasy creatures.  So the only guideline that matters is that (aside from humans) if you find it in ARK, you won't find it still alive today.

If you would have read any of the comments I posted after that, then even you would be able to understand what I'm saying but just because it's your lucky day let me elaborate just for you

First off the creatures I mentioned, along with every other creature in ark are fictional however they are still based on (some more loosely based on) there real world counterparts in there dossiers scientific name, which is what the prehistoric animals have

Secondly the ones I mentioned use there extant scientific name or family not a prehistoric one and have no clear fossil evidence shown in there dossiers or any special prehistoric spider traits besides the norm, so don't say the devs based it off a prehistoric one

And what do you mean by my logic? Not once did I name a prehistoric creature whether it was basically a giant croc or not and if I did, prove it and while you're at it prove that one of those creatures are prehistoric or based on a prehistoric species, and a Dire Wolf was never even giant it was slightly bigger than a grey wolf and I actually like the devs creative freedom on making it bigger

And who said anything about prehistoric horses? If it's prehistoric I could care less if it's added or not I just wouldn't like it if it looked to much like an extant horse or was literally an extant horse

That is very true however the creatures I mentioned are still based one real world counterparts and even though they are all technically fictional species the only true fictional ones are the bosses and first two mysterious mystery creatures  (or maybe I'm wrong because they are mysteries after all)

Like i mentioned above, the leech in ark is an extinc ancestor of modern leeches, as for the coelacanths they are prehistoric.  creatures and were believed to be extinct till one was pulled up dynamite fishermen in (i think) south african waters. Now a days marine biologists (im prety sure its marine biologists) go on diving expeditions to find them, though due to how rare they are very few of these expeditions end up encountering one.

Nothing in the leeches dossier including its name points to it being prehistoric

Also thanks for reminding me this is another modern animal that was added

And no I don't hate all the modern creatures that we're added because I like the way they implemented the manta and eel but I do prefer arks creatures to be prehistoric I was also mainly just correcting you
