Monolophosaurus
Species name: Monolophosaurus micorus
Time period: Jurassic
Diet: Carnivore
Temperament: Territorial
Wild
Monolophosaurus is quite possibly one of the most bizzare dinosaurs I've encountered on the ARKs. So perfectly adapted for life in a subterranean world, if I had discovered it on the island, I'd have realised these animals were genetically edited straight away!
This cunning predator has a unique adaptation to surviving the horrors of these caverns... crests and frills filled to the brim with light producing organs! A quick flash is enough to stun prey or predator alike, giving them an easy meal or an opportunity to escape. An especially useful adaptation for combat against light-sensitive cave dwellers like Megalosaurus!
Domesticated
To fuel their light producing displays, Monolophosaurus run hot, meaning conventional tranquilisers seem to have no effect. Instead, survivors have taken to using reflective metal objects to momentarily stun the creature with its own flashes, then stuffing as much food into its mouth as possible before it recovers. Quite risky, especially without your own protective eyewear, but well worth the rewards! These dinosaurs are more than willing to aid their rider with a dazzling gleam to deter Reapers and Nameless! However, in this food chain, light is a delicacy, and these dinosaurs are practically a magnet for Seekers.
Monolophosaurus has a crest and frills that are filled with charge light. It can utilize these to create a blinding flash that temporarily stuns creatures, giving it the option of fight or flight. This flash also temporarily makes Reapers and Nameless retreat.
To tame one, the player must have a metal object in front of them, such as a shield, a wall, or even a sword. The Monolophosaurus gets stunned by its own reflection, giving it a chance to be fed.
Monolophosaurus has a radiation immunity. Though it can spawn just about anywhere underground, it becomes more common the deeper into the cave you go.
