The silence has me wondering if it has a hidden weakness or something... Like shooting it in the eye with an arrow. Or it insta- rages when eating penguins.

It'll insta-rage when shot with a rocket. Also if you stress the server out, Giga's damage doesn't appear to register so they hit like a wet sponge. We had a raid recently where so many people and dinos were in one spot that a tribe on the other side of the island had to put their Giga back because they were struggling to kill wild dinos with it.

Giga's usefulness at endgame is questionable in it's current state. When everyone has access to a rocket launcher, you'll never be able to keep a rider on its back and with a lot of turrets around, it's hp lasts just as long as most rexs do. The difference is I can transport 6+ Rexs per landing raft down to where ever I'm raiding as long as it isn't too far inland, whereas Gigas need to follow on foot. Endgame (online) raids are heavily reliant around managing dino hp and logistics. Being able to send as much down as possible and making it last long enough to win.

Gigas are more of a noob stomping dino than the tame one and win kind of dino that a lot of people make them out to be. Problem is, that's usually all the experience they have with them as end game raids between large tribes are so infrequent (ours last week was the first one since August).

After having our stone base (which we were living in after having our metal base destroyed in a server war about 3 weeks prior...) completely destroyed by an Alpha tribe's Gigan, we've focused our rebuilding efforts toward making our base "Gigan-proof" and it's exhausting...and futile...the resources needed to make a metal wall high enough that a Gigan can't just lean in and eat everything right inside is ridiculous, as if Ark wasn't enough of a grind fest before...

To put it simply, having to plan your whole game around a single dinosaur is just bad design, and toxic to the meta game.

Before, the choice between the 2 top land predators, Rex and Spino, was interesting, because both had pros and cons, and good in different situations, and most big raids included both. Now, there is no point at all, Gigan beats both, no contest, and it puts rexes and spinos in the egg farms with the carnos...

So go get your own Giga then, lmao

not gonna argue but I think possibly the best approach might be to extend the power scale in a grand compromise rather bring back the giga fully.  I've thought about this a lot.

so you have 4 basic approaches:

1. leave it alone, it's fine as it is.  Personally i think you'd have to be a lobotomy patient to think this but there it is.

2. Hit the giga with a nerf bat to balance it to the existing power scale, basically slice the gigas stats by 80%, take away the tame nerf and fix it's leveling scaling.  It's still the nastiest thing on the island by a wide margin but not freaking Godzilla anymore.

3.  Full power to the power creep!... increase all the stats on everything in the game so that the folks dead terrified of balancing get to keep all thier big numbers and get more big numbers but the ultimate result is identical to 2. only with a lot more work.

4. re-kajigger the powerscale.  This is not unlike 3 except rather than a blanket increase of everythign you bring the giga down a bit (because it is really unreasonable as it is) but not a whole lot... then you starting with the rex and working down buff the creatures to spread them out on the powerscale so it's once again a proper curve... mainly the rex would get the biggest buff proportionally and the dilo would get the smallest.  Then you adjust player weaponry and tools to reflect the new power curve top end (basically increasing damage of the weapon tiers in a similar manner to the dino power curve)

I clearly prefer 4.

Option 4 would be indeed the best solution.

And:

There was some miscommunication early on about how player and dino stat scaling was supposed to work, and by the time we'd realized that the numbers coming out weren't what we wanted, it was quite a bit of work and a lot of agony to redo everything.
Tamed and wild dino stats thus became outrageously dumb and inflated beyond all reason, and so each creature to fit in the hierarchy as they were released had to be scaled to the existing stat progression.
In order to be the literal apex predator on the island, the Giganoto had to be a mess of stupidly outrageously scaled stats into the stratosphere.
We'll be re-doing all of it later in one large, retroactively applied patch. Essentially it'll scale all tamed dino vs wild dino interactions to be a lot less crazy (no more 1 raptor max level kills 15 max level wild brontos) but all tamed dino vs tamed dino interactions will remain similar to what they currently are with respect to each other.
It's gonna be a bit of work.
