I love the idea of a way for it to spit its venom at prey... or like, a really really sticky (element-infused?) saliva (maybe it eats element and projectile vomits it back up to get to critters juuuust out of reach). Not entirely sure I love the idea of it firing it from a tek saddle though. I feel like all this lil guy's weirdness should come directly from him.

Good idea!!!

Ozimek volans is an early Triassic reptile with special adaptations for gliding flight.

It is also carnivorous, maniacally insane, and somewhat of an idiot.

(All artwork by me)

Wild: According to the ARK Database that I found in the city’s terminals, Ozimek insanum was created for the desert ARK to fulfil the role of a dangerous airborne threat. But the Wyvern ended up being picked for that role instead, so the Ozimek was left abandoned on Earth. It’s quite a shame that happened, because this leaping lizard is a fascinating predator, utilizing both vicious athleticism and deadly accuracy to bring down its favorite food: flying prey.

Ozimount.png

Domesticated: This is one of the most effective aerial predators you could ever own. The secret lies in its specialized venom which quickly drains its targets' stamina. Even the bombastic Managarmr is driven to exhaustion from a few drops of its venom. Other than that, the Ozimek is a great travel buddy and a surprisingly loyal hunting partner that’s more than willing to keep your feeding troughs full of fresh meat while you’re away. Just try not to challenge it to a staring contest.

Perfectly adapted... not

Gameplay Summary:

Flyers are among the most versatile creatures in ARK, but they don’t have many counters. Thylacoleos, Reapers and Net Guns are capable of pinning them down, but otherwise, that seems to be it. All those three options are prone to missing their shot as well.

The Ozimek seeks to be a new addition to the arsenal of anti-flyers.

This reptile may look strange; perhaps even silly. And sure - it can’t fly. But it can run and jump at profound speeds, and it certainly won’t hesitate to attack airborne prey with a gliding ambush! The Ozimek doesn’t care if its target is a giant Rhyniognatha or a little Lymantria. Its intrusive thoughts dictate that as long as something flies, its food.

With a big leap from the ground, it lands atop its airborne prey and injects dangerous doses of venom that quickly remove its victims’ stamina, forcing them to land. Once grounded, they’re easy pickings!

This creature is a big PvP counter to anyone on the wing, but it also has a strong purpose on PvE too. Let it guard your base, and it’ll make sure to supply your feeding trough with meat whenever it makes a kill on a wild creature. Additionally, you can keep it on guard during an OSB or Corrupted Vein battle and it'll quickly shred apart any approaching corrupted Pteranodons or Wyverns. And lastly, it’s a fantastic travel mount with a gliding gimmick that’s unlike the Rock Drake or Maewing.

Abilities:

[Mouse1]: Bite

A venomous bite. This attack will steal the stamina of its bitten victim. The potency of the stamina-stealing venom works its way faster with each bite.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

[Spacebar]: Leaping Lizard

Hold [Spacebar] on the ground to begin charging up a super massive jump. An arrow icon will show you exactly where you will land, allowing the player to accurately judge their arrival point.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

[Shift]: Glide & Dive

The Ozimek can glide, but it needs to build up some speed before doing so. Begin to ramp up momentum with its fast running speed, then jump into the air and transition into gliding.

Gliding downwards will increase its speed. If you glide down and transition back to running, all of the stored momentum will be carried over as bonus running speed. You can then use that bonus running speed to jump back into the air again, and vice versa.

Repeat this momentous pattern and you’ll be able to generate some serious speed!

[Mouse2]: Soaring Strike

Leap onto flying prey from afar! Aim your target reticle at a flying creature to lock onto them. You’ll launch into the air at high speeds and home into your target, hooking onto them like a Deinonychus. The Ozimek will then gnaw at their body with its stamina-draining bites.

Players that find themselves grappled by an Ozimek must struggle to shake it off, not indifferent to escaping a Bloodstalker or Desmodus. Whipping it off won't work: it is uniquely immune to the Whip.

This pounce can also lock onto mounts that are similar to flyers, such as Mangarmrs, Bloodstalkers, Rock Drakes, and even other Ozimeks - the latter of which will result in a comedic aerial scratch fight.

Soaring Strike will fail to lock onto anything that’s on the ground.

[Radial Menu Option]: Sentry Mode

The Ozimek will remain stationary in one spot and constantly scan its surroundings. When it spots a flying creature near or far, it will attack it with its Soaring Strike. After the target has been killed, the Ozimek will return back to its exact starting position, ready to rinse and repeat.

If there is a feeding trough nearby, the Ozimek will transfer raw meat from its inventory into the feeding trough.

Taming:

The Ozimek has an EXTREMELY fast torpor drain, alongside a stupidly large torpor bar. You'll struggle to knock it out through standard tranquilizers. However, there is a way around this.

Firstly, you’ll need a flying mount. Secondly, force feed your flying mount with lots of narcotics, but keep it awake. Lastly, deliberately approach a wild Ozimek and let it use its Soaring Strike to grapple onto your mount. The Ozimek will take one bite and instantly ingest all the torpor out of your mount, likely knocking the Ozimek out in the process. Now be ready to feed it as fast as you can, because its hunger bar will drop like crazy. If you have some raw mutton or kibble on you beforehand, it should be tamed in no time.

Congratulations if you noticed quickly! I am the creator of the Miracinonyx, Ornimegalonyx and Armadillosuchus - and now the Ozimek! This is now my sixth time in the top ten. From now on, I will prioritize making new creatures ideas over resubmitting old ones. You can still expect to see some old creations return to the votes, but it won't happen often anymore.

The Ozimek isn't the only new creature idea I made for Extinction. I'm doing a double submission! My other creature is the Sauroposeidon.

Sauroposeidon.png

My last double submission was during the Aberration votes, but I pulled one of them down. This time, however, I'd like to keep both up and see where they go.

As always, thanks for reading. Feel free to leave any suggestions.

I have a question. How do you fit so many photos in one submission, when I can only fit one or 2? I would love to start submitting ideas like this but I need a little help. If anyone knows please tell me

Upload your image anywhere else on the internet, then copy the link and paste it into the submission.

There is just something about this I like. I would add the ability to climb vertical terrain and structure like a megalania. This would allow it to climb up to great heights, glide around, and then climb back up.
The stamina drain is a nice counter to flyers. Nice job.

I was tempted to give it a climbing ability, but that would make it feel too similar to the Rock Drake. So I gave it the super jump instead. You'll be using the super jump for the same purpose as climbing: to get up higher cliffs.

I love this goofy guy, it looks so... Prehistoric. Why not give it a tek saddle that shots its venom via Element force? I know that it will be a good anti-flyer even with a normal saddle, but still it as its issues. Imagine that you spot a Pteranodon higth up in the sky, you cannot do anything because you don't have any way to reach up there with your Ozimek. But with that Tek saddle, you could shoot basicly Tek rifle projectiles that deals less damage, but injects that stamina draining venom, with the cost of one Element Shard. Also, I swear a good if Ozimek or Sauroposeidon don't win this contest, I will cry for weeks straight.

The Ozimek isn't meant to counter flyers at any elevation. It is meant to punish them if they get too close to the ground or other surfaces. Flyers will be safe if they can stay outside its Soaring Strike range. But this isn't as easy as it sounds, as the Soaring Strike attack range is some hundred meters in distance. Think of it like threatening aera denial.

Ozimek is too dumb to think of using safe-ranged weaponry. It dashes into opponents for close range like an idiot.

And another banger from you (will you stop someday to be that prolific), having a wild counter to flyers is something that is necessary (it's for this reason that Aberration is a banger DLC) so i hope that one of your project will finally be added to ARK. A big up to your artworks they are amazing with a lot of humor in it

I love that he's the dumbest little murder derp. 🥺🥺🥺
I want an armyyyy.

Edit: I also want to say I agree that he should be able to scale vertically. What if the little dummy jumps off a cliff after a flyer?! And then he's so far away from home and if he can't climb, he won't be able to return to your base. The poor babyyyy.
