Mononykus: The Valuables Scavenger

FlamingJack8

Suggestion

Common name: Mononykus

Family: Alvarezsaurid

Time Period: Late Cretaceous

Diet: Carnivore

Temperament: Active (skittish)

Wild:

The Mononykus is a very small theropod that spends its time hunting insects and small animals, and collecting shiny objects to ornament their burrows and nests. The name of this dinosaur, which means simply "one claw", eludes to their limitations of abilities, although they are still experts at foraging through termite mounds, as well as climbing trees to evade potential predators. Due to its small frame, it can outrun most creatures on the Ark's, and while carrying any goodies that it snagged in the process with ease. Due to the Mononykus being easily spooked, it will tend to steer clear of anything creature or human larger than itself, although it cannot resist any shiny metals or gemstones.

Domesticated:

A unique ability of the Mononykus is its uncanny sense of direction towards valuables, including crystals, obsidian, and other gemstones. Once tamed, this nimble creature will be able to sit on your shoulder and sniff out any and every precious and shiny material nearby, sometimes even digging up materials straight from the ground. Its sense of smell is so attuned,  it can tell the valuables within crate and supply drops, (including other players boxes). While the Mononykus will shy away from any unnecessary encounter in the wild, once tamed it will try its best to aid you with a bite from its small, sharp teeth and slashes from its two claws.  It has been found that the Mononykus possesses an unexpected ability to carry heavy loads, and even being stronger at carrying valuables.

Taming:

To tame the Mononykus, you will need to first find one and slowly crouch or crawl up to it, as walking or running will spook it if you are too close. Once you are within range of it, drop any shiny or valuable object for it to inspect, the shinier the better. Once approved, it will take the item into its inventory and continue on until distracted by another shiny object. If the Mononykus becomes scared during the taming process, it will run away to a burrow until the threat is negated, then it will exit from the burrow and will be allowed to be tamed again. Luckily, once tamed, the Mononykus will return your shiny objects back to you, as well as a hefty reward from its unknown stash (which could include a high level item/blueprint).

Abilities:

Simple Bite: A bite attack that deals a moderate amount of damage.

Claw Swipe: Occasionally it will lash out with its two claws, dealing a relatively large amount of damage for its size.

Valuable Detection: Mononykus can detect valuables either from the shoulder mount or on the ground, and will lead you via audio and visual cues towards their locations, and once you have the Mononykus for a long enough time, you will be able to distinguish the meanings of its multitude of calls as a language for what valuable is ahead.

Digging for Gold: The Mononykus will sometimes dig up sections of the ground in search of precious materials, and will almost certainly find some valuable materials, such as metal, crystals, obsidian, and other gemstones.

Weight Reduction: This small creature has a hidden knack for being able to hold certain heavy materials with ease, as long as it likes the shininess of the object.

Wild
As a small insectivore, the Mononykus Abditusmissus' presence in the caves initially got me confused, as its small size can make it easily torn apart by the ferocious residents in the caverns. Apparently, this small dinosaur has the trickiest skills to survive; It seems that the Mononykus can generate some kind of pheromone or chemicals from the food it consumes, and diffuse it from the glands between its feathers. And these chemicals can confuse most predators, especially the giant bugs in the cave, making them lose the desire to attack. With this ability, the Mononykus can even feed on the eggs of those giant bugs!
Domesticate
For survivors, the Mononykus provides two utilities once tamed: One, is that the chemical they give off serves as natural bug repellent, keeping most predators, especially bugs calm. This allows the survivors free from the aggressions of many predators, especially giant bugs. The other is that survivors can take advantage of Mononykus's feed behavior of cracking plant material to find insects to gather resources like thatch, sap, and silk

In-game
present in the caverns, as common as Dung beetles
Taming: KO, favorite food to be bug repellent and rare flowers, common meat is also useful.
Roles: Press E to select options to let the Mononykus start generating smells, and it will give the player a buff that is similar to bug repellent with a ghillie suit. The player can also activate the bug-repellent mod in the same way to activate a lantern creature. The bug-repellent mod will consume Mononykus's stamina, and the buff will end once it runs out of stamina.
When it is enabled to "wander", the dinosaur will gather plant resources like thatch, fiber, silk, sap, and cactus sap in bulks.

WILD
Mononykus olecranus is a passive creature that favors a sweet substance called honey. When dropping honey by this creature it will come up to the honey and eat it. Once consumed, it will find the person that dropped the honey and start an action called "begging." Begging is an action that happens once fed honey. Once begging starts, every 10 mins it will ask for a random item. The 7 items that it could ask for are wyvern milk, rare flower, raw mutton, raw prime meat, chitin, cooked meat, and cooked prime meat.

TAMED
Once domesticated, this furry little friend can shield you from the burning sun. This Dinosaur can let out an ear-piercing shriek that will stun any dino for 10 seconds. This guy can also protect you from those nasty pegos. When on a survivor's shoulder, mononykus enables the ability "pegocamo," as stated a second ago hides you from pegos.

Species: Mononykus olecranus
Time: Cretaceous
Diet: Lizards and insects
Tempermant: Passive

Sorry if there are some mistakes this is my first time participating in a creature vote.
Hope u guys like my dino!

I've got one for the Mono:

Species: Mononykus
Time: Late Cretaceous
Diet: Insectivore
Temperament: Skittish

WILD

Mononykus is, in my humblest opinion, almost as adorable as the Jerboa. This small dinosaur can be found dashing around the desert, searching for any invertebrate it deems safe to hunt. When it does find it's prey, it will dash up to it and tackle it with its singular hand claw. If it doesn't impale the exoskeleton, it will let go and run, but if they do, they'll relentlessly tear it apart until only the inedible parts are left. Quite to contrast to it's unsuspecting appearance! They run at the sight of almost any creature, so you can't just walk up to one. If you follow one, though, it's search for food might lead you to a jug bug if you're lucky, or a hive of Titanomyra if not.

TAMED

Now to tame a Mononykus, that's a challenge. You need to bring it any invertebrate, though I recommend jug bugs, and back away. They'll eat it right away, though chances are it will need infinitely more. Once you do tame this little guy, he can accompany you basically anywhere on your shoulder. They'll be especially helpful when fighting swarms of bugs and can even locate many invertebrates easily! This has a very helpful side effect: one thing it can detect are death worms, which makes it key to travelling the sands of these dangerous beasts.

😆 someone's been peggoed one to many times.

Though some critique.

This little guy seems like a cross between a sino and some early game substitute for desert cloth and ghilee combined.

Screech critique:

Let's balance that screech out. Everything is alot and kinda brokenly OP when you think about it. So how about medium sized creatures? There are lots of annoying ones on scorched. Daedons, kapros, terror birds, etc. So it would be useful.

How about range and cool downs? How far does the screech effect reach? And how long does the stun last? How much time before it can do it again?

Passive ability critique:

Part 1: heat resistance:

This is a little broad as it could simply a fortitude buff to mitigate the effects of superheat and slow down the drain of water/food. Or it could be something as large as a heavy damage resistance to fire. I assume you mean the first option though. This is a good idea.

Part 2: pegocamo:

We already have the stun screech to deter them why do we need to hide?

I think a better idea with this could one of 3 options.

1 - stealth pet - having this guy on your shoulder while crouching or prone could turn you invisible. Maybe these guys have a sleeping or sitting stance like megatherium and shadowmanes that allows wild ones to hide from predators.

2 - organic poly source or substitute - One idea with this is that they simply drop organic poly allowing players to aquire ghille earlier without needing to killi mantis or deathworms. The better idea (in my opinion) is that the fur like picnofibers that appear to be covering this critter could be cut like wool on ovis with scissors this "Monon fur" could be an organic poly substitute.

3 - the final idea is that the player craft a cloak or hood or even a full armor set inside this things inventory. That could be like a makeshift version of ghilee without all the benefits.

Out of all 3 of these ideas I feel like the first idea works the best. But maybe you can think of something better. Be creative and don't be scared to apply some magic and unnatural abilities to a creature. But also keep it relatively grounded.

Taming critique:

I like the idea that honey is needed to lure them in and start the process keep that.

Honestly the only thing I'd say is to either change wyvern milk to a different resource or make it super rare.

Then again maybe using something like cactus sap as a starter works better. Since in general honey is kinda hard to get.

General:

Honestly really good concept. This may be your first entry but is it your first creature concept?

Good luck getting some votes and if you make it to stage 2 good luck. If you don't get this guy to stage 2 you can try again. All the story maps and possibly some community maps are gonna have votes like this.

Now that you have a scorched earth entry you could try to make an abberation creature. That'll be the next vote.

Palaeosinwa council member signing off.
