Introducing the Pteranodon! The wandering diver of the skies!

Common Name: Pteranodon
Species Name: Pteranodon occidentalis (Western Toothless Wing)
Time: Late Cretaceous
Diet: Piscivore
Temperament:
Skittish

Tameable: Yes
Rideable: Yes
Utilities:
Scout, Aerial Fighter, High-Speed Diver

Wild:

Pteranodon occidentalis is one of the most common creatures on the Island, alongside with Argentavis. Unlike its scavenger counterpart however, this large pterosaur is a predator, as it constantly preys upon fish. Being a piscivore, it has several feeding methods in which to catch both saltwater and freshwater fish. It can often scoop up fish with its mouth while in the air or on the ground. However, the most visually impressive method is when it dives into the ocean at high speeds to catch fish. This always creates a massive spectacle with survivors whenever Pteranodons feed on the high seas. Seeing them dive into the water and rise back up in a mystical veil of water is always awe-inspiring to all who see it.

Domesticated:

This creature's amazing speed and immense versatility allow it to take on many roles. It can be used as a scout in order to survey enemy territory and fortifications. In addition, it is a very capable fighter, as it can often outrun fleeing opponents or actively engage against enemies in aerial combat. It is especially effective in massive packs, where they use their numbers and agility to decimate enemy tribes. Many survivors even use its diving method in creative ways, as it can be used to survey the oceans or to quickly descend back to the surface, although it is quite risky. Some have even used Pteranodons as flying missiles, using its dive in order to ram Quetzals and other large creatures with the help of an attachment that adds a large blade to their crest. However, it is even more risky as the Pteranodon could actually die if it rammed into a sufficiently hard object or the ground.

Additional Info:

The appearance of the Pteranodon also has some kind of mystique to it. Being a sexually dimorphic species, males and females look very different from each other, despite being part of the same species. Males are brightly colored with their own unique head crest that is used to attract multiple females. Females are slightly smaller and have a dull coloring to them. This makes them easier to identify which is which and allows tribes to easily breed many Pteranodons for their own use.

Author's Notes:

It's for a new dossier, and this time it is the Pteranodon, the wandering diver of the skies!

Being an extremely common creature, Pteranodon occidentalis feeds on the many kinds of fish that exist throughout the island, from ones in the rivers to ones that swim in the open seas. It has many hunting methods in which it uses to hunt prey, such as being able to scoop up fish with its mouth or pluck them from the shores. However, its most impressive feat is when it dives straight into the water in order to catch fish. This always creates a very mystical effect around Pteranodon occidentalis and causes an awe-inspiring effect over those who witness this majestic creature.

Although very skittish, it is susceptible to narcotics and can be easily tamed. It is very versatile due to its traits, as it is extremely fast and very powerful for such a frail creature. Its speed allows it to be the Gallimimus of the skies, outspeeding anything that tries to flee from it. This makes them excellent scouts and recon flyers in order to survey enemy territories and locations. In addition, they can be trained to be very capable combatants, more so than the Argentavis, as they can pursue opponents in short-ranged flight or engage them in direct combat. They are especially effective in packs where they can overwhelm enemies in sheer numbers.

Despite this, its unique trait is its dive, a trait in which survivors exploit to the fullest extent. Being able to swim in water for a short time allows a rider to scout for potential threats under the water, as well as to catch surfacing creatures off guard. In addition, they can be used to quickly descend from high altitudes, although hitting the ground is very catastrophic to a diving Pteranodon. Some have even used them as living missiles against large animals like the Bronto and the Quetzal, using a bladed helmet in order to deal damage to them in a high speed dive, as well as to enhance their performance in combat. However, it is even more risky, as it always takes damage whenever it hits them, and some actually die from the sheer impact of this dive, especially if it hits a hard surface.

Thanks for reading!
