bulbdog attacks when in gas areas?? damage in Hazmatt suit from standing ground

So I was just playing around testing my server with god mode etc. I didn't want to set up a base in the beginners areas as had my heart set on the glowing bioluminesent area. However the area I choose I worked out it needed a hazard suit (am nowhere near it but just spawned it to test) And discovered the gases seem to affect my Bulbdog too?? As it goes crazy when on your shoulder and attacks you! is this normal or to be expected??

Or is it a bug guess I was just wondering. As just walked back and the bulbdog didn't attack me then.
Worked out why it didn't attack me cause I had god mode on. But the Bulbdog attacks you when those gases are around even if you are in a hazmat suit. Is this intended?? As it hasn't lost health or anything.

Also taking damage just standing on the ground. Which is odd as am in the Hazmat suit. (was on foundations when this happened! Stone ones)
