Currently, the only way to host and play on an xbox ark server is to have two xboxs. They've mentioned bringing in the cross platforms feature but an exact timeframe seems to still be unclear.

So I guess you just have to have one xbox running all of the time? Also I've heard of people spawning in things on their private server, is that something an admin does or does the actual host do it? Also am I right in saying that the host isn't allowed to actually play on the server? Sorry I'm asking so many questions, i've been considering trying to start one but have no clue how to do it.

To start your own xbox player dedicated server follow these steps:

  1. Ensure you have gold and ark purchased on your xbox (we'll call it xbox A)
  2. Now turn on the host xbox (xbox B) and sign into your account.
  3. Create a second account on xbox B
  4. Now launch ark on xbox B with the new account you made.
  5. On xbox B select the 'host' option on the main screen
  6. Configure the stats to your liking. This will be the server settings.
  7. Now in the top right corner select 'Host Dedicated Session'
    1. Make sure Xbox B has a wired connection and NAT type 'open'
  8. On xbox A, add the new gamertag you created for the server and 'join game'
  9. On xbox B under 'Connected Players', select your GT and press 'Add Admin'.
  10. On xbox A log out of the server and log back in for the admin permissions to take effect.
  11. Advertise your server! You can do that on this forum under the xbox player dedicated section. Be sure to read the rules and guidelines of the forum before making an advertisement. Most forums have rules on how often you may bump your post. On this forum it is once every 24 hours. Do not make more than one thread for your server. You could get a warning for spamming.

Admins can use the console commands. So be careful on who you make admins on your server. They will have almost the same amount of power as you.

Admins can(via console commands):

  • Spawn in resources/dinos
  • Change time of day
  • Shut the server down
  • Spectate the server
  • Delete structures/dinos
  • Paint dinos
  • Ghost through structures
  • View connected players
  • View administrator players
  • View banned players
  • Ban/kick players
  • Change the message of the day
  • And much more

The Host can:

  • View connected players
  • View administrator players
  • View banned players
  • View Chat
  • Ban/kick players
  • Add admins (Only host can do this)
  • Remove admins (Only host can do this)
  • Change the message of the day
  • Change the server settings (Only host can do this)

Hope some of his info helped out. If you need more help, shoot me a message. Good luck & happy hosting!
