Longisquama obscurum - The Shoulder Mounted Pincushion Turret
Interface5 posted a suggestion in Creature Submissions
The idea, dossier, and concept included in this post were all created by me, I welcome feedback, thoughts and suggestions. (Also if you notice any glaring flaws in the dossier be sure to let me know and I'll fix 'em) Longisquama is a unique reptile that is most notable for the fossils of its frond-like feathers sticking straight out of its back. This specific depiction of longisquama is a love-letter to the inaccuracies for the sake of design seen in so many of arks other dinosaurs, in that it directly references one of the more outlandish reconstructions of longisquama, bare in mind I'm no paleontologist I'm only repeating a few things I've heard over the years. Pitch: ● Early Game Tame, Late Game viability - Everyone loves tames accessible from the start, especially when they are able to maintain relevancy later into the game. I imagine the Longi could be tamed early on, simply get a leach attached to you and have it eat it off you to contribute about a third of the taming bar. The kicker is that to get maximum effectiveness you will have to find a diseased one (The Aberrant variant would simply use lampreys and still gain the full taming effectiveness but not contribute as much to the taming progress). So we've established that it's easy to tame early on but requires late game or at least a lot of effort to get max effectiveness, why put such an emphasis on its potential use in this way? Well I think the benefits the longisquama provides will allow it to be useful into late game just as much as early game. ● Spear Generation: Passively generates quills in its inventory, attempting to fire without any quills in your inventory will quickly generate 10 quills at a heafty cost of stamina stacking beyond ten occurs at a lower rate without consuming stamina and would cap around 50 for a level 30 at 150 for a level 80 and around 250 for a 150 just to get a basic idea. By holding attack with an empty hand and a longi on your shoulder you reach behind you and snatch a quill off its body, this quill will now act as a spear that scales damage based on the longi's mele. Quills cannot actually be taken out of a longi's inventory. With high mele I could see this being comparable to a high quality pike, though I would love some PvP players input on this as I only have an idea of how my ideas will effect balancing from a PvE perspective. ● Low Range Turret - One of the main draws to the Longi is the fact that its essentially a machine gun, In many ways it will function similarly to a shoulder-mounted velonosaur, when manually firing you would use it much, in the same way, gaining a target reticle moving slower and expending stamina to shoot though not nearly to the degree of the velonosaur as in this case you also need to wait for the quills to appear in its inventory again. I would imagine that when it shoots its quills it does additional damage, I see its role as being a last resort type of thing, you are only given so many quills and you want to manage them carefully. (However to make this a versatile tame I think by increasing oxygen you could increase the maximum number of quills in its inventory and would change its role from last resort to a more standard attacker at the cost of some damage output) ● Last Resort - To compound on its role as something that you want to save for dire situations the Longi could receive a decent damage boost when your health dips below a certain point, this would hopefully allow it to make that difference between life and death in deadly situations. ● Reflective armor - This ability could be two-fold: for one after shooting a target it could take some of the damage it deals *its biting and the quills are getting pushed deeper* additionally if a survivor is wearing a longisquama they could also cause damage to be reflected upon taking it from an outside source, I think this could scale with a stat such as just health. ● Watchdog: - The final role of the longi is the auto turret part of it, essentially you set its aggression level and the range before it chooses a target, and it just acts as a turret on your should, if you had a decent level one this would be good enough to give you peace of mind that your not going to be snuck up on by a raptor and killed, even in situations were you havent brought your top teir tames with you, because you already have a pretty decent one on your shoulder. ● Additional details: I could also see the Longi providing insolation buffs and a fall damage reduction for obvious reasons. I also think that it could detect buried creatures like purlovia and reapers to add to their connection to rock drakes eluded to in the dossier and with the implication of them being the source of dna for rock drakes; however I don't think these are necessary for the concept to work, if the longi was feeling too bloated with features these would be the first I would drop, though I dont think anyone would complain from these being included. My main defense of these features being reasonable and not power creep or bloat is they don't majorly detract from other creatures' roles and instead just add a bit of depth to the longi, a dire wolf is still better for finding purlovia, a rockdrake can detect reapers and actually fight them, and archypterx / sino are better gliders. Implementation: So how does the Longi feel in game? I imagine it would be common to forested areas rich in bugs as well as swamps. I think Longisquama would work really well on other maps such as Abberation and Scorched earth, and Extinction's sunken forest, I would love to see these maps get some love. I personally think Aberration especially could benefit from the longisquama, I referenced the rock drake a lot while making the dossier and I can even see the longisquama being a source for the rock drake. Longisquama would be a great source of keratin if you can manage to kill one, which shouldn't be too difficult if you shoot it with arrows after bolaing it, just be sure you don't use a mele weapon. To add a greater threat to messing with this creature i could see it doing a quill burst when attacked at close range, this could also be an ability used by mounted longisquma. Feel free to leave your thoughts and suggestions in the comments, especially if you want to offer a perspective to PvP balancing because I have no idea how to start on that. As for my suggestions towards ensuring this is balanced, It would probably be good to investigate the spawn rate of diseased leaches, to ensure taming one of these at max efficiency is possible. Additionally, I would like to use this post to soapbox about velonosaur receiving a buff to cement its position at the turret mvp as the longisquama is intrinsically meant to be lighter weight and more multifaceted so therefor not quite as good as the dino that is literally genetically engineered by element to be a turret.- 9 replies

Dsungaripterus is a exceptionally vile pterosaur. Larger than their counterparts in the fossil record, Dsung is nearly as large as an Argentavis on the Arks. Fond of eating corpses too far gone for any other creature, it seems that Dsungs subsists almost entirely on rotten meat and bone, which it eagerly devours to excess. Despite being a pterosaur, Dsung is a very poor flier and spends the majority of it's time on the ground. When provoked, they are capable of vomiting their stomach contents with a horrific amount of force, blinding attackers before flying off to safety. As a tame, if you can tolerate the nauseating stench, Dsung can actually be quite useful. It's bite is bone shattering, and while not inflicting a bleeding effect to cause damage over time, it will slow a target down. While it can't fly nearly as well as any other flier, it's much more useful on the ground than they are and can still use it's flight to get to safety when needed in an emergency. It's gluttonous appetite for rot allows it to harvest spoiled meat and keratin in droves, but it's main utility is it's vomit. By default, it will regurgitate it's stomach contents to blind and slow it's foes, similar to a Dilophosaur but with far greater force. However, it can be trained to swallow and vomit either stone or flint to function as either a more powerful slingshot or bow respectively. It's not as effective, but it's cheap and dirty, fitting for such a beast. There are even rumors of them being trained to swallow and vomit forth cannonballs, though not as efficiently as an actual cannon. Maybe with some training and selective breeding, they could prove more effective... Slight rework of the original concept, adding the cannon shot and the bonebreaking bite to give it a bit more oomph. By default, while capable of firing cannonballs from it's gullet, it's not nearly as powerful as an actual cannon. However, unlike a cannon, it can be leveled and selectively bred to bring it to a real terror. A draw back is that cannonballs actually weigh 3 times more in it's inventory, to indicate the strain it puts on the animal.

My tribe and I are very into avatar, so I was wondering what looks like an Ikran/Banshee from the movie. There is nothing like it, I just thought of this while raising my reaper so I dont have any dossier or anything but I have ideas. Taming: You have to search for a mountain they are inhabiting and go on foot, then you have to prove your worth by either falling from a height or fight it hand to claw, the creature will target you, this is indicated by a red line connecting both of you. Once you tame it you can ride it without a saddle but you want to make a saddle. Riding with no saddle: This will be like flying a fast pteranodon, like really fast. Nothing special. Riding with saddle: This is where the specialties come in, with the saddle you can dive and swoop. With the saddle you will be more mobile than anything else in the game, you will be able to outrun anything in the game. Breeding and Raising: They will not be able to breed because they are supposed to be special and one at a time tames. Tamed Abilities: Like said in the riding section you will be super agile with a saddle but not that special without the saddle. Another ability it has is a roar that increases speed, this can only be used with a pack of them, with the roar it also makes others of this creature friendly to you and help you attack creatures, when this runs out you better fly fast. Wild Abilities: These creatures will make the sky dangerous, the sky in Ark has always been passive and never really dangerous. These will try to swoop down and pluck you from you mount and with target the player rather than the mount, but only if you are in their territory, once out of their territory they will be neutral and not attack you unless there. Eggs: When you are in their territory they will have nests, the eggs in these are very nutritious and can hatch baby versions of these creatures that can be used as sentries to protect your base, but be careful because as you get closer to the nest more will be aggressive. Sentry Mode: When you take an egg and successfully make it to base you can hatch it, when hatched they will need to grow like any other tame, then when they are fully grown they will act as guards for their assigned area. You can set a location for them to patrol or protect and they will attack any creature in that area.

I know that in the ark there is a great chance of finding a great variety of extinct phauma but it never crossed my mind thearchaeoindris, larger as is to be expected in ark creatures but now I can study how they lived, their kinship with gorillas and sloths. With the gorillas and sloths of central South America, unlike the lemurs I knew, small, slippery and their funny way of fighting of who smells like the archaeoindris imposes respect with its size and violence if necessary. despite being a hervibore he will occasionally eat insects because like all lemurs indris loves his hygiene more than I do mine and uses some insects as repellent. This causes a symbiotic relationship with megatheriums as when there in the same area the megatheriem would find insects then would find a archaeoindris to make insect repellent for the archaeoindris. In return the archaeoindris would use insects so they can mash it to a substance. When a megatherium consumes this it goes into a more powerful form than just killing bugs without the archaeoindris. It is also not tameable in this state and will kill everything except the archaeoindris and it's group. Apparently this giant lemur is unique because they are not that good of climbers, I guess because of its large size and its evolution to adapt in living on the ground. but i've seen some indris manage to leap from tree to tree without the need to climb, not forgetting that they have very strong legs, like all lemurs, and that they have very strong legs. Commonly they are seen leaping on to thylas and causing them to fall out of trees. You will normally find groups of archaeoindris of 1 male and several females in jungle or forest biomes, if you come across a group of them the male is usually decisive. If he sees you as a threat, nuisance, or you don't offer food or play. he will not hesitate to attack you to protect the females as they are excellent wet nurses for his species. besides these lemurs have a gripping force that can grab you and your tame depanding on there size. Instant death from what i have been told (look on the bright side, only the male is the only one that will attack you) but if you stand still without looking him in the eyes he will allow you to walk through his territory, apparently it is a kind of respect between them. (I don't recommend you try to put him to sleep with narcotic arrows or darts because by ingesting a lot of insects they have developed immunity to any kind of narcotic. Tamed: Apparently only the males are the first to take the step to be tamed because if you try to tame a female she will ignore you as she only obeys her male alpha. Once the archaeoindris has allowed you to be close to his group by destroying stone structures, very carefully approach him and offer him dung beetle carcasses. With also using bug repellent as if you don't it takes that as a insult to it's hygiene and will attack you, if doing whats said he will take them and rub his body with them, enjoying it and thanking you. Once you tame him, the group of females that are with him will attack him as they no longer recognize him as the alpha. To tame the females you have to arrive with another group of archaeoindris and kill their male with your archaeoindris, by doing so you will not just 1 tamed female, but more than 2! (watch out when you have that duel the other male will have a 30% damage reduction buff). Apparently in this ark there was a cell of Gaius Nerva's legion that made a small army of archeoindris, I can tell by the armored mount they made and the flag (fortunately I got the blueprint of it), who would say that giant lemurs were excellent in combat, you know what they say: we are good at things we didn't know. well I don't have words to describe what I saw when another hostile tribe attacked them, but I'm sure it reminds me of a fantasy troll movie.the archaeoindris is unstoppable because it has a brutal gripping force that killed the enemies in an instant when it took the enemies in an instant by grabbing it with his hand. not to mention how brutal he is with the mangual he uses in his other hand. He is capable of destroying metal structures as if they were paper! and the most terrifying thing is his roar that makes the other allied creatures ignore the pain and keep on fighting, simply this lemur is incredible and brutal. *skills: - deadly grapple: the archaeoindris has a grappling force capable of taking out small enemies instantly like the noglin when it leaves a host, including survivors but it will be a very concentrated move that will need a little more time than normal (we know how hard it is to move a corpse so the archaeoindris will never let go of the enemy until you ask it to). - normal grab: it will be able to grab small creatures and survivors with its hand to capture. - throw it: it will be able to throw allies or enemies with its grip causing them to die from the fall. - flail brutality: it will swing the enemie or there tame and also slam them rapidly on the ground till death. he has his mangual, a deadly war weapon with 3 levels of power, when you raise a bar like shadowmane he will move you to the next level with another set of moves. to the next level with another set of brutal moves, at level 3 it does damage to metal structures and tek giving you the feeling of using a small mek. level 1: solid and direct but slow hits level 2: faster blows and intense combinations level 3: the adrenaline of the archaeindris is at its peak, metal structures and tek are bulnerable, every 3rd hit is a stun hit, dismount automatically. - flail grab: use the flail as a bolas and catch medium creatures (including flying ones) (but you can't use the flail while doing that). - forget the pain, keep fighting: possesses a great war cry that cancels all disadvantages caused by enemies to nearby allies and also buffs them (like fear, bleeding, etc). -great jumps: jumps from wall to wall or tree to tree to reach a target. passive: - the more damage he receives from bleeding, the more damage he will do. - attach a banner to your mount and it will offer a 20% xp increase. - when you face another archaeoindris the resistance increases by 15%. - resistance to poison, narcotics, toxins(bio toxin) of 60%. - if you get shot by weapons the stamina will be reduced slowly - when you have l50% health, they will not be able to dismount you. male skills: -bigalow: the male is the only one able to tame other females. -Consumer: this is when a male swallows any firearm ammo and when needed it will shoot the ammo of choice that will inflict torpor you can even double the torpor of a tranq dart if swallowed. female abilities: big mama: offer her food and she will atomatically take care of the offspring (only of her species) by carrying them on her back (it is necessary to remove the mount). super big mama: offer her superior kibble and she will automatically imprint her offspring (but the time will be longer). The armor of the archaeoindris can be made in the blacksmith shop. They are able the full set of flake armor with their saddle. You are also able to shoot off there back. pvp/pve utility: - they may have a reliable amount of health but the damage they have is devastating, take them on quests or even to the boss! Also has a berserker mode when it gets low you can't control them when in this state but you are not dismounted and they will fight till death. - make the role playing game of your dreams! lord of the rings style use the archaeoindris in battle! - use the archaeoindris to tame grypon, tropeo and others by trapping them with his weapon. The weapons they are able to use are: Chain bolas, bear trap and large bear trap, grenades, spear bolts, cannon balls, wood club, sword, and metal and riot shield. - finish off your enemies and take his body to a safe place to take everything he has!
