Brachypelma gigas, The giant tarantula taming assistant.
Jothung posted a suggestion in Creature Submissions
Common Name: Giant redknee Species: Brachypelma Gigas Time: Unknown Diet: Carnivore Temperament: Defensive Wild Brachypelma Gigas closely resembles modern day tarantulas of the Brachypelma genus. More specifically B. hamorii or B. smithi, save for the fact that it's enormous, being around the size of the islands Carnotaurus. As long as you don't get too close though it isn't overly dangerous, since like modern day tarantulas the Brachypelma Gigas prefers to sit on a bed of silk and wait for suitable prey to come within striking range. As which point the tarantula will pounce on it and pin it down. So as long as you don't get too close you shouldn't have a problem. Brachypelma gigas can most commonly be found within caves but can occasionaly be seen above ground as well. It generally makes it's home in dry, desert type environments. Domesticated In order to tame Brachypelma gigas one must gather up some sacrificial tames, preferably giant insects as tarantulas are generally insectivores, and throw or whistle them into the tarantulas striking range. Once it's pinned down the prey you can simply walk up and pet it while it's distracted with it's food, slowly getting it used to you. Once tamed Brachypelma gigas makes for a fantastic helper when it comes to taming other animals. It's able to lay down silk mats on the ground which function like bear traps, stopping small to medium sized animals in their tracks. Unlike metal bear traps though it's silk is biodegradable and will dissolve after a few minutes even if nothing steps on it. It also injects torpor inducing venom with every bite and can flick urticating hairs from it's abdomen which slow and temporarily blind smaller creatures. It does take a while for the hair to grow back though so it can't be relied on constantly. Brachypelma gigas is also capable of climbing walls and cliffs. Although being a heavy bodied, terrestrial species it's not very good at it. Making it a somewhat slow climber and it certainly can't cling on to ceilings or the roof of caves. Tameable: Yes Rideable: Yes Breedable: Yes Extra notes (Not part of dossier) I know this isn't an extinct animal so maybe it doesn't qualify for this but since Ark has mythical creatures I figured I'd submit it anyway. I always thought a giant tarantula would be really cool ever since scorched earth came out and I'd really love to see this in Ark. And having a creature dedicated to helping tame other animals as well as being a decent all-around mount would be nice. I imagine this to be on the higher end of mid level as far as the saddle goes. And I think it's be cool if instead of a normal saddle your character just sat on top of the carapace and held onto reins that were affixed around the base of the pedipalps where they connect to the cephalothorax. I also think it'd be really neat if the abdomen changed size depending on how well fed it is. When it's hunger is full the abdomen would be somewhat bigger compared to the cephalothorax. When it's food is almost or completely empty the abdomen would be noticeably small compared to the cephalothorax. I have no idea how hard that'd be to do though so it's just kinda a spitball idea. If it's unrealistic I'd totally understand. So yeah, this is my idea for an animal to add. I've played and loved Ark for over 7,600 hours, which I'm pretty sure is longer than every other game I've played in my life combined. So to see one of my favorite animals added to the game would just be absolutely amazing. But I also understand most people don't like spiders/tarantulas so I can't imagine my suggestion will be very popular. But one can always dream. And although I think a tarantula in the Brachypelma genus would be best I'd be happy to see any species of tarantula in the game. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brachypelma_hamorii -
Aptenoperissus, The Giant Parasitic Nightmare Wasp.
Jtiderencel17 posted a suggestion in Creature Submissions
Aptenoperissus is a four foot long insect that resembles a mix between a wasp, a grasshopper and an ant. They are fast, mobile and highly aggressive with long stingers filled with paralyzing venom. Their jaws are serrated mandibles that can shred through many hard substances and the have long strong forelimbs that they use for digging burrows in the ground. The Giant wasp has an unusual sexual dimorphism wherein the females are wingless instead possessing strong grasshopper-like back legs enabling them to leap great distances as well as pounce upon and pin potential prey. The males possess wings and are more docile than the females and generally spends its time flying about searching for a potential mate. When a male wasp enters the close proximity of the female, she will release a pheromone into the air which drives the male wasp into a vicious frenzy. Aptenoperissus was the largest wasp in history but from casually looking at it you might think that it is more like a giant grasshopper. This would be a mistake because the wingless females are highly aggressive, diving upon and viciously stinging smaller creatures into paralysis. After the creature is paralyzed, the female injects it with eggs that incubate within the host. When the eggs hatch, the baby wasps begin to eat the host from the inside out, slowly killing it. The males have wings and are often found searching for a female to mate with, while still able to sting, the males are passive until they find a female to mate with. Upon finding a mate the male wasp becomes highly aggressive, attacking creatures near the female, attempting to aid the female in paralyzing nearby prey. The male will then mate with the female and upon completion, the female will kill and devour the male. If no paralyzed prey is nearby, she will instead paralyze the male and lay her eggs inside of him. Perhaps a strange choice, a giant wasp, however a flying or jumping mount with high maneuverability (Like the Desmodus or Tapejara) that can snatch up smaller creatures in its front claws and sting them into paralysis would be really useful. Tamed Wasps would only enter the mating frenzy when mating is activated and the fact that you would have to sacrifice a male wasp (or another tame) would be a drawback, however after gestation you would be guaranteed at least two baby wasps if you sacrificed a decent sized creature. Instead of taming wasps, you would have to kill the female after her eggs have been laid in a creature, then protect the wild creature until the babies are born at which time you can claim them. Invertebrate Arthropods are underused and underappreciated in Ark. There are no decent insects. Most are either cave dangers or just pests that plague Bob on the Beach. Giant Bees are tamed to become beehives. A fast nasty maneuverable mount that's useful for taming, PVP and exploring, the Giant Wasp is just what ARK needs! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aptenoperissus-

While tiny in real life, I would say this ancient stag beetle could be a really interesting creature if added to ARK, as we don't have many insects we can ride on: Name: Syndesus ambericus Diet: Herbivore Temperament: Defensive (will fight back if provoked) Like most insects in ARK, this one would be significantly larger then it actually is so it can be a mount, but would be far more bulky and have these traits: Can deal heavy damage to armor with their large mandibles, carry heavy loads (with a 30% weight reduction on wood, stone and flint), great at harvesting wood and flint, can maybe fly, can carry creatures with a drag weight up to 200 in it's jaws. Strengths: HP, Melee damage, Weight Weaknesses: Poor speed and Stamina favorite food: Sap Taming method: Knockout (but Passive can also work)

The giant horsefly is found in the jungles of the island. Upon seeing a survivor, they attack, and deal damage and drain stamina. They’re also very loud to provide an early warning. Additionally, they can target the survivor on top of a mount. To stop them, you can make a blue hat with some sort of sticky substance on them, and they will get stuck to the hat when they attack, without actually striking. Horse flies can create medical brews in their inventory, from the blood they ingest, and upon killing or feeding them, you can obtain these brews. they are tamable, and upon domestication, they can be given blood packs to produce the aforementioned medical brews.

General: Alright here is my idea for a new giant dragonfly, while there were never any dragonflies as big as I am suggesting ARK has moved away from reality a little over the last few years, so I think that wouldn't be a problem anymore. I'm still not sure on the name, so I used the scientific name of dragonflies as a placeholder for now since the Meganeura already exists in the game. But now onto the creature: I would see its size to be one of the larger flyers in the game being somewhat smaller than a Wyvern. The Dragonfly is all about flying and aerial combat. They are fast and have a lot of stamina, they have ok damage and rather low health for their size since they are very streamlined for fast flying. Because of their focus on lang fast flying they are alson unable to carry large weights giving them only a low weight stat for their size. Since they are insects they do have an exoskeleton which provides them with a small amount of armor. They are also very vulnerable to fire. Wild: They can be found close to large lakes or rivers. There they behave very territorial. They have very clear flying patterns always flying in circles or on almost straight lines occasionally stopping and hovering in place. Dragonflies are aerial predators therefore they only attack flying creatures, this also applies to the player who is only attacked while flying. If they attack a smaller creature they will grab it and land on any large enough surface to eat it. They will also rarely land by themselves to warm up in the sun. It is important to note that like real Dragonflies they can not walk, while on the ground they can't move at all. Tamed: A tamed giant Dragonfly can be very useful for traveling as well as for aerial combat. They have 3 different flying modes: Counter stroking: in this mode the Dragonflies Front and hindwings move 180° out of phase, they can only move slowly while in this mode however they can move in every direction (Front, back, left, right, up, down) their movements are very precise, and they can of course hover in place. While in this mode flying consumes no stamina however they do not regain any stamina either. Fast flying: for simplification I combined to different modes of flying in real dragonflies for this one, here they move all four wings at the same time in order to achieve great speeds. Still they remain very agile and can turn around very quickly. This mode consumes a high amount of stamina Glide: This mode is very self-explanatory, the dragonfly glides. This mode does not consume stamina, or it might even allow the dragonfly to regain small amounts of stamina depending on balancing. Dragonfly vision: Dragonflies have extremely good eyesight. Their eyes are specifically adapted to detecting movement. When active all moving creatures are highlighted including cloaked ones like Rockdrakes or shadowmanes, flying creatures are also highlight while in flight even when not moving. Lock on attack: real Dragonflies have a success rate of over 90% in their hunts, this is due to their ability to predict their preys movements, allowing them to not chase their prey from behind but intercept their preys flight path. In the game this will be translated into a lock on attack which can be used on any target but is most effective against flying targets. When this attack is performed the dragonfly will do a quick dash towards the target, smaller flying targets will be grabbed by this, targets on the ground as well as larger flyers will receive a high amount of damage. This attack may or may not be able to dismount and grab players from their mounts again depending on balancing. Bite: the name says it all it's a bite. Damage is increased towards grabbed creatures. Cold-blooded: due to their lifestyle Dragonflies are very sensitive to temperature, in cold temperatures a Dragonfly's flight speed is decreased. More importantly its stamina consumption is greatly increased as well as stamina regeneration being slower. Real dragonflies can also overheat however the effects of overheating don't translate to gameplay as easily, but it might still be included Breeding: In this area I'm Still not quite sure how it can be done best but here are my thoughts on how to breed dragonflies Eggs need to be laid in water. The eggs hatch into larval dragonflies which also live entirely aquatic. When the dragonfly matures it changes into its adult form which is able to live on land. Taming: Now the big question, how to tame a Dragonfly. While a Dragonfly sits down a player can feed it meat and mount it, the dragonfly will then start to fly again making its taming similar to an Equus. After a certain time the player gets thrown of again. Since dragonflies will always land upon grabbing a flying creature players can sacrifice tames like Pteranodons to land Dragonflies, this could also be used to increase taming effectiveness. While the Dragonfly can be ridden without a saddle due to their anatomy a person sitting directly on its back may interfere with wing movements making it harder for dragonflies to fly, therefore a dragonfly can only achieve full flight capabilities while ridden if a saddle is applied that allows it to freely move its wings. So now that I have explained all of my ideas I want to note that this may or may not work well. So most likely a lot would need to be changed for this creature to actually work within the game. But I think this could be used as a foundation, and i really just want more bugs in the game as they have a lot of potential but have been greatly overlooked in the past. Feel free to add ideas or comment on my ideas.

I’d love to see wildcard to add some more useful/ imposing insects to the game. My most wanted would be a giant tarantula hawk. Rather than a standard knockout or passive tame I think it would be cool if they were tamed somewhat like a reaper king but instead of the player being impregnated, a tamed creature would have to be the host for the baby. And then breeding would be the same. Would be really cool if they were the only flyer to be able to climb like a rock drake too. It could have a paralysing sting which can stop the biggest beasts like rexes and brontos. it would also be cool to see a giant spider of some kind like a wolf spider or huntsman. An upgrade to the Araneo. This one would be much much bigger, maybe half the size of a karkinos? I feel like it should be able to climb like a rock drake, spin webs that could trap/ slow down enemies And also suspend from single webs like the blood stalker but keep the web slinging exclusively to the stalkers. To get them you’d have to venture in to swamp/ boggy caves and collect the eggs from egg sacs. would love to hear some more suggestions!
