Welcome back sunken survivors! And a belated Happy New Year to you all! Time for me to dust off the old keyboard and start writing the first of many Sunken Scoops for 2025! So lets kick off the year with a little celebration of all things Sunken! We'll start this year off with some reworked concept art! ZCI has been back in the kitchen once again, and has cooked up an absolutely stunning redesign of Sunken Liopleurodon! Snappin has also been hard at work implementing all the lovely icons from Scoop 30 and 31 into the game in the latest update to the mod. Go check it out if you haven't already! If this is your first time diving into the deep end, the Sunken World project is a dedicated team of individuals who are looking to spruce up the seas in the same way that Scorched Earth offered a unique, biome specific challenge to survival! New creatures, resources, structures, items and more, all set on a huge custom map, we're looking to give ARK's oceans the TLC they deserve! The main goal is to bridge that huge gap between early and late game ocean exploration, and make it much more viable and more fun to live a life beneath the waves. This is unofficial content and is only related to our mod. It is in no way related with the official game and its content releases. Let's dive into the scoop! NEW CONCEPT ART Sunken Liopleurodon Redraw In ZCI's words, "this may be one of my favourite designs I've done for the project ever". Let's face it, while vanilla Liopleurodon is a cute reference, its actual niche in the game leaves much to be desired. So, in TSW's theme of giving some love to the oceans, we've transformed Liopleurodon from a late game trophy tame to an early game torpor tame! Sunken Liopleurodon knows how to throw its weight around, and with its hard pseudo-shell, its smacks have some serious concussive force! In addition, the tough scales provide a decent amount of natural armour! Also, it's a permanent tame now! Massive thanks go to ZCI for this incredible piece, but that's not all! We also have some extra colour concepts alongside a feature of the glow regions on this beautiful beastie! COMMUNITY CORNER New Year, new Community Corner! While we have nothing to show off from all of you lovely people this time around, we're excited to see all the new TSW content you cook up this year! If you have anything you want us to show off to us, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between to the submissions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! We hope you're just as excited about TSW in 2025 as we are! There's so much cool stuff in store, and if you want to join in the fun, or just chat, the best place to do so is our discord! Have a wonderful timezone! If this is your first time seeing TSW, check out the links below to find out more! Please note that if you want to play our mod, you need both the map and creature mod active. Welcome back sunken survivors! 2024 has been quite the year for TSW! Since we ported at the beginning of the year (did that seriously all happen this year?), we've TLC'd some of our beloved creatures, released a whole library of amazing concept art and models, released a fair number of Sunken Scoops, teased a new project (more on that later) and a bunch more things that would make this list way too long! It's been another incredible year of TSW content for sure, but the most important thing of note is that we've had so much fun making stuff for all of you! So let's send off the year with a bang, shall we? In this edition of the scoop, we'll be going over our new sister project, Fabled Dominion, just in case you missed it, as well as sharing some final bits of concept art for the year. Read on to find out more! WHAT IS FABLED DOMINION? Fabled Dominion will be an ARK like no other (because it's technically two)! FD is set on a fantastical ARK still recovering from a cataclysmic event: the navigational systems of two ARKs failing and causing them to collide. The impact, currently still under repair by the ARK's systems, drastically altered the environment, damaged the DNA banks and corrupted and combined the AI of the Overseers of the separate ARKs. With its damaged databases, this new Overseer began pulling from the only bits and pieces of information available to it, causing it to believe that creatures from human mythologies and legend were real animals! Using bits and pieces of DNA available to it, it repopulated this amalgamated ARK with all manner of beasts from tales long past! This project is being worked on alongside TSW! This means that progress for TSW will not be affected in the slightest, and both mods will be developed at the same time! However, FD is going to be partially made up of premium content. As we've stated multiple times, we are entirely commited on making sure all of TSW remains free, however that means generating funding to continue to make TSW is quite difficult (though our incredible Patrons help out a ton!). And on the topic of the Patreon, while we don't advertise it much, we do have one! Links are available in our Discord if you'd like to support the project! So what's going to be premium? TSW will always be free The FD Additions mod (all the creatures, resources, etc) will be free The FD Map mod will be premium While we know that premium mods can be a touchy subject for some, we hope that we've made our reasons for creating premium content more than clear. We really think that FD will help both projects as a whole... and speaking of help! Help Wanted! We're looking for more team members to help work on specifically Fabled Dominion! This doesn't mean that they will be unable to work on TSW though, it just means we really need people to help out more on FD for now! The roles we're looking to fill at the moment are: Dev Kit Developer Animators/Riggers Hard Surface Modelers Creature Modelers Composer If you're interested, DM Sireoptera! More information can be found in the announcements channel of our Discord as well! Also, you can join the Fabled Dominion Discord here! NEW CONCEPT ART Tyrant Shrimp Redraw You mean to tell me a tie ranted this shrimp... wait did I make this joke already? ZCI has revisited Tyrant Shrimp's old feature piece and given it a fresh coat of paint! Now this shrimp can really show off its big meaty claws! Once in game, the Tyrant Shrimp will be like an undersea Velonasaur/Tapejara hybrid, able to move in any direction while peppering enemies with shots from its claws at a distance! Acrophyseter Ping Icon "Acrophyseter with long macaroni around head" as ZCI so eloquently put it! This icon was missed in the last scoop, and is our response to the feedback we've been getting that it can be hard to see what Acrophyseter has detected with all the haze and colour shifting underwater. This icon will replace the current ping icon in game. And again, massive thanks go to ZCI for all his work on this and the other icons! COMMUNITY CORNER One of the biggest miracles of 2024 is that the community corner has survived the whole year! I guess gaining more popularity in the modding community means more community content! If you have anything you want us to show off next year, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between to the submissions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Artwork Happy Holidays by solid steel SEA YOU IN 2025 Time to wave goodbye to 2024 (almost)! 🌊 Tongue and cheek aside though, on behalf of the TSW team I'd like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas if you celebrate! And for those that don't, we hope you thoroughly enjoy the holidays! Our little project has grown so much over 2024, and it's been a real privilege to see all the love for our little ocean ARK coming from the community! We definitely feel really lucky to have such a tight knit (and well behaved, looking at you official discord :p) little server, and we're just as excited as you are for all the new shenanigans we'll be getting up to in 2025! That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop! Instead of our usual ending statements, all I want to say today is that we hope you'll all stay happy and safe in the last few weeks of 2024, and we'll see you in the new year! If this is your first time seeing TSW, check out the links below to find out more! Please note that if you want to play our mod, you need both the map and creature mod active. Welcome back sunken survivors! We're back once again with another edition of the Sunken Scoop, we know you missed these regular updates from your favourite ocean-themed mod (and the irregularly bad title puns :p)! In this edition, we'll be sharing some very exciting pieces of artwork! For the eagle eyed survivors who noticed the sneak peek in last Scoop's Cartorhynchus feature art, you may have an idea of what's in store... It's time to show off the structures that will make up your first humble home beneath the waves! The Coral tier has gotten some lovely concept art courtesy of RexMyPet! And to complete the other half of the horrid title pun, ZCI has been drawing up some buff icons to give our creatures' abilities a more official feel! Read on to find out more! IT'S SEA REAL ESTATE Your first home beneath the waves is finally here (some assembly required)! Below is a selection of pieces from the upcoming Coral structure set, an Adobe/Stone-tier alternative to pricey Vacuum Compartments. The Coral tier will be made up of pre-fabricated structure pieces that can snap to one another. We decided to shift to pre-fabricated rooms quite early, both to save on mod file space and coding strains. Trying to get the game to figure out if a bunch of individual walls, floors and ceilings actually formed a closed airtight box would be highly challenging when a much easier alternative is available. Also, you'd be surprised how much file space the vanilla structure sets take up in the game! Don't worry console players, we've got you and your mod file space limits (mostly) covered! And of course, we can't talk about the Coral tier without mentioning how RexMyPet graduated from concept artist to head chef with how hard he cooked on these concepts! Massive thanks go to him and his incredible work! Standard Room The humble beginnings of a mighty undersea castle! The standard room is your basic building block, and you should be able to fit a healthy amount of essentials for survival in one... or just cram a bunch of tames in there for no good reason! Moonpool Why is it a moonpool if it's not moon shaped... Name semantics aside though, if you need a quick access point to the outside ocean, just dive right into the opening in the middle of this structure! The cross section is still a WIP, and we'll share some more pictures once it's ready. Observatory The perfect place for some R&R below the waves! This piece was the one that was teased in the previous scoop, and its use in game will be similar to what you saw in the artwork. This beautiful shell-shaped viewing platform will provide a spacious place to admire either your undersea tames or the majestic environments below the waves! More Pieces? While we may add some more pieces, we're currently still testing what does and doesn't work within the kit! Concept art is all well and good, but for something as ambitious and essential as the Coral tier, we want to make sure everything works as intended so we don't overpromise what we can deliver. We do have some ideas floating around on what other pieces we could add, and we'll be sure to share once we're sure they'll work in game! ICONIC ICONS Are you (sea)sick of that pun yet? Well for those of you who didn't close the forum out of disgust at my sense of humour, check out these beautiful buff icons made by ZCI! He's really captured the official style of the buff icons perfectly, and these icons will be added to the mod in a future update to give our creatures just that little extra custom flair! In the first row, from left to right, we have Acrophyseter's Rally Call, Ambulocetus' Metabolic Rush and Edestus' Impale. The second row, also from left to right, has Henodus' Buried Buff and Protoceratops' Sugar Rush. COMMUNITY CORNER Another Scoop, another community corner! Let's continue this streak, we love seeing the things you guys create! If you have TSW related adventures, art or anything in between you want to show off, feel free to send it over in the submissions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Clips and Videos Creator: DarkEdgeTV It's not a "Clips and Videos" section without a DarkEdgeTV TSW video! In this mod showcase, she's checking out the latest additions to TSW, the Acrophyseter and Floating Weave structures. We had a whale of a time watching it, and hope you do too! That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! We hope you're just as excited to live in the new coral structures as we are! And if you're looking for the best place to talk about the excitement, why not join our discord? Have a wonderful timezone! Welcome back sunken survivors! THE SUNKEN SCOOP IS BACK (and I'm all done with uni)!!! It has been far too long, and man is it good to be back (and now we are back, it'll be back to our regular 2-4 week posting schedule)! I'll save my normal waffling for later on, because there's tons of wonderful content to get through! In the time we've been away, we've released a brand new update and chipping away at all the concept art that still needs doing, all while doing a ton of other projects behind the scences. And in regards to that final point, we have an important announcement to share (which is down below)! Then it's back to your regularly scheduled TSW content, starting with a breakdown of the new update, then moving to some redraws of feature pieces! Read on to find out more! AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT To reiterate what was said in our discord, we've had to make the difficult decision to change some of the priorities of our workload. We'll temporarily be moving focus to some exciting new projects to generate some funding that will go directly back to help development of TSW. As we've stated many times before, everything to do with TSW will continue to be developed and released for free. However, the downside that comes with this is that modding takes time and money, so progress for TSW has slowed down a little bit. To put it simply, for the meantime we're focusing on a bit more than just TSW. The workflow of the TSW: Additions mod will continue at the same pace, but progress on the map (which is still a WIP) will slow down for the near future. We're still working on the map, it's just that we're working on it in addition to other things. While we can't reveal the things we're working on behind the scenes at the moment, we can share this teaser for now! Big things coming very soon... THE WEAVES AND WHALES UPDATE Snappin has cooked once again! In the most recent content update to TSW: Additions, Acrophyseter has made the move to ASA, we've added some new structures and features, and of course squashed quite a few bugs! We'll cover everything of note down below, so save your questions for later 😛 Acrophyseter This pod sure packs a punch! Acrophyseter has ascended, bringing a powerful pack creature to the seas of ASA! These sperm whale relatives are an excellent way for you to fight your way into deeper waters. Their powerful bites (and headbutts of the alpha of the pod) and ability to rally their wild relatives to temporarily aid you in combat can make short work of surprisingly tough predators! And if you want to stay out of danger, your Acrophyseters can detect any hostile threats nearby to keep you out of harm's reach. Friendly and intelligent, as long as you don't provoke an Acrophyseter they're relatively easy to tame! Adults can be passively fed, taking food from your hand, preferring Superior Kibble and Raw Prime Fish, while babies simply want someone to play with them! Floating Weave What a lovely start to a life on the waves! During development of the update, we made the decision to update the Bivouac tier to a more cohesive structure set. While we're still intending to make a floating tent structure, the Floating Weave tier is the best way to start your adventures into the deep. The entire structure set floats on water, providing you with a foundation to build a safe place to return to after your adventures beneath the sea! Model Upscales In addition to new features, some old friends got some love too! Henodus and Protoceratops received some model upscaling! We once again have Snappin to thank for these amazing glow ups! CARTORHYNCHUS FEATURE ART REDRAW Honey, I shrunk the Ichthyosaur! Cartorhynchus has gotten a fresh coat of paint thanks to ZCI! These cute basal ichthyosaurs will quite literally light up your life! Pop one on your shoulder and they'll be sure to brighten even the deepest, darkest seas. And when you're not bringing them to your next adventure, they'll be more than happy to tend to your underwater fields of seaweed, saving you the trouble of collecting crops from their plots! On an unrelated note, that structure that the survivor is watching them from sure looks interesting... OMNIDENS FEATURE ART REDRAW NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE! I mean, what else needs to be said regarding the ultimate terror of the deep sea. ZCI decided to revisit Omnidens' feature piece and take another shot at portraying it in all its horrifying glory! If it wasn't obvious from the sheer size of the thing, Omnidens will be your go to tame for ruling the deep. Boasting some impressive natural armour, the ability to burrow beneath the seafloor and a pair of jaws that dwarfs even the largest oceanic predators, nothing short of another Omnidens can stand up to this leviathan! Keen eyed survivors may notice the unique saddle on the Sunken Plesiosaur! We're planning for Sunken Plesiosaur to receive a new default saddle that will provide the rider with oxygen! COMMUNITY CORNER Turns out going on hiatus for so long means we get a backlog of community submissions! Let's celebrate all the lovely art, screenshots and so on you've created! If you have anything you want to show off, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submissions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Screenshots Poor Proto by KingRiley Turtle Pals! by Sireoptera Artwork Untitled Halszkaraptor Game by solid steel That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! Man is it good to be back doing the Scoop for you all! If you want to discuss anything shared in this returning edition of the Sunken Scoop, why not come hang out in our Discord! Welcome back deep-water denizens! It's that time again! And just because it's the holiday season (for some of you, Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate!) doesn't mean we can't do some scooping! In this edition we've got sneak peeks at new friends of all shapes and sizes! In the concept art department, Tyrant Shrimp (now in technicolor) and Magma Turtle make their debut, and Orthacanthus leaps to centre stage! Henodus also gets a new portrait to match its in-game look! We've also been hard at work on some draconic friends for quite some time now, and it's finally time for the Wyrms to rear their scaly heads! If this is your first time diving into the deep end, we are a dedicated team of individuals who are looking to spruce up the ocean biome in the same way that Scorched Earth offered a unique, biome specific challenge to survival. New creatures, resources, structures, items and more, all set on a huge custom map, we're looking to give ARK's oceans the TLC they deserve! The main goal is to bridge that huge gap between early and late game ocean exploration, and make it much more viable and more fun to live a life beneath the waves! This is unofficial content and is only related to our mod. It is in no way related with the official game and its content releases. Let's dive into the scoop! THE EARLY WYRM GETS THE SURVIVOR It's about time we properly showcased the draconic creatures that inhabit The Sunken World! Introducing the Tidal, Thermite and Brine Wyrms! These oceanic giants will fill the same role as Wyverns on Scorched Earth: enormous scaled reptiles that terrify the locals, or lead the helm of your armies! These beasts are one of the apexes of the map, and with their impressive array of elemental attacks, there's only a few opponents that can stand up to them! There's even rumours that particulary powerful Wyrms can execute devastating finishing moves... And if you're brave enough to hunt all three, you could make a mean noodle soup! Massive thanks go to Scorching Kami for all the hard work she did to bring these fellows to life! Tidal Wyrm Meet the king of the ocean currents! The Tidal Wyrm inhabits the Glow Reef, and with its ability to shoot concentrated beams of freezing water, there are few predators foolish enough to challenge it on its home turf! And as if this sea serpent wasn't dangerous enough, a skilled rider can train their Tidal Wyrm to create a powerful whirlpool that draws enemies into a concussive maelstrom of water! For lovers of Lightning Wyverns, this Wyrm is for you! Thermite Wyrm Behold the emperor of fire! Thermite Wyrms inhabit the superheated Thermal Reef and can be rarely found in the Molten Range. This Wyrm produces intense fireballs that continue burning even underwater! This is thanks to the large quantity of thermite found in these projectiles, allowing them to ignite below the waves. It's also what gives these draconic serpents their name. Undersea explorers have told tales of these deep sea firecrackers quite literally boiling the sea around them in a terrifying display of their power! Those that love to lob the toxic spit of the Poison Wyvern and Basilisk at their enemies will be a perfect match for this conflagrant companion! Brine Wyrm An undead undertaker rises from the toxic depths of the brine! Brine Wyrms inhabit the Brine Pools, some of the lowest reaches of the ARK, and with their ghastly appearance it's hard to imagine them living anywhere else! These serpents secrete a noxious cloud of brine that will engulf your enemies in a deadly cloud of super salty water! And should a Brine Wyrm require the upper hand in battle, it will exude a large cloud of damaging miasma that saps their opponent's strength and shatters their armour! People who love to pilot the Fire Wyvern will feel right at home on the back of a Brine Wyrm! A DYNAMIC, MAGMATIC DUO Tyrant Shrimp Don't disturb the wasp nest that is the shell of a Magma Turtle! An angry swarm of Tyrant Shrimp is sure to get you to buzz off for disturbing their home! These formidable crustaceans are most common in the Molten Range, and their claws are used for more than just their intimidating eyespots! The great deal of power behind their clubber claws smash apart minerals with ease, and they use the surprising dexterity in their cannon claws to load up a rocky payload in their bubbly bullets! Different mineral resources loaded into the claws of a Tyrant Shrimp will give different effects to their projectiles! These claws also fold up neatly when not in use, meaning this shrimp is as nimble as it is deadly! ZCI found that this creature was quite shrimple to draw, and did an amazing job on its artwork! As shown in Z's mock-up, eyespots can really confuse potential predators! Magma Turtle This undersea titan puts the "power" in turtle power! As we've said many times before, this hero in a hot shell is a mobile home for colonies of Tyrant Shrimp, and in ZCI's incredible feature piece, we see it defend its resident Tyrant Shrimp from a pair of hunting Thermite Wyrms! Its enormous size and powerful beak could make short work of the marauding serpents, if only it was quick enough to catch them! Its impressive firepower is best harnessed by the most daring of survivors, as its shell will power any structures placed onto it through geothermal energy! In addition, Tyrant Shrimp can be stationed along its flank, creating one of the most powerful organic strongholds on the map! Due to their symbiotic relationship, all a Magma Turtle needs to do is release a black smoke to get its crustacean armada on the offensive, and a survivor can easily command it to do so! NEW CONCEPT ART Orthacanthus Meet your new best slimy shark/catfish/mudskipper/hagfish friend! Orthacanthus dwells in the Mangrove Swamps, stalking the waters between the roots of trees... or leaping across the land to chase down its prey! That's right, this shark can walk on land, and can even jump a considerable distance to catch a meal! A thick coat of slime keeps it from drying out on land, and aids it in moving out of the water. In addition, Orthacanthus slime is so thick that it can really gunk up the mouths, limbs and claws of any aggressors, meaning there's a chance that an attacker will miss its strike! However, the velocity of a ranged projectile will still pierce right through the gooey armour, and it takes time for it to regenerate its coat after sustaining enough damage. Shoot to kill, or just keep on slashing away if you want to slay this beast! Thanks to RexMyPet for the artwork! Henodus You should all recognise this turtle look-alike by now! Henodus has been out on the ASE branch for 7 months now (which makes us feel quite old), but for those who don't know what this fellow does, this shelled reptile is the perfect early game mobile home! You can build right on its back, and it won't draw attention from the raft-hating Leedsichthys, and it can burrow into the seafloor to produce an oxygenated area below the waves! Perfect for a quick and dirty underwater base, or for helping to keep that KO tame that just had to run into the sea from drowning! Thanks to RexMyPet for Henodus' much needed artwork update! COMMUNITY CORNER We are still quite a small community, so we haven't received any submissions for this two weeks' Sunken Scoop. However, please feel free to submit something yourself! Anything from screenshots, artwork, videos and the so on, and we can featured your work in the next scoop! The submissions channel in our Discord is always open, or you can tag us @ARKSunken with #sunkenscoop on Twitter! That's all for this issue of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! From Tyrant Shrimp to Thermite Wyrms, there's certainly a lot of new faces that have been revealed today! Come to our discord talk about your favourite new tame-to-be, or just to hang out! Have a wonderful timezone! If this is your first time seeing TSW, check out the links below to find out more! Welcome back sunken survivors! Wow, that was a really good nap! But now I'm awake, it's about time we had another Sunken Scoop! It's been quite a while since our last update (being sick and unable to write really isn't fun), and our work has been dragging on... because we've been working on getting the draconic creatures of the project working in the kit! (Be honest, you've missed my bad jokes :p). That's right, Wyrms are currently in development! We've also been working on quite a lot of other things in the past 4 weeks, but they're not ready to be shown off just yet, but we'll be sharing some very awesome things soon! (and if you want a sneak peek check out the links to our Patreon on our Discord for some behind the scenes access). WYRMS ARE IN THE KIT I dont think these Wyrms will take too kindly to being put on a string! Sireoptera has been working hard getting these oceanic beauties ready for their debut in ASA, and I think the results speak for themselves! For those who haven't seen these beauties before, the Wyrms are our Wyvern-equivalents in TSW. On the actual map, they'll be found nearby the trenches in their respective biomes: Glow Reef for Tidal Wyrms, Thermal Reef for Thermite Wyrms and Brine Pools for Brine Wyrms. If you want more information on these beasties, check out Sunken Scoop 9! And if you've had enough of my yapping, check out the beautiful gif below showcasing the Brine Wyrm in action in ASA's Kit! (please excuse how crunchy and pixelated it is, it's real hard to upload stuff like this to the forums haha) COMMUNITY CORNER We've been seeing so many lovely submissions to the corner while we've been away! Here's a selection of some of the wonderful things our community has made over the past 4 weeks! If you have anything you want to show off, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submissions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Screenshots Hangin' with The Boys by NavyTheDodo Anomalocaris Ascension by NavyTheDodo Artwork "Better Late Than Never" Aquilolamna by Dinobros2000 Team Up by solid steel That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! Welcome back sunken survivors! Hey hey, its ya boi ashZCI here, one and only writer for the Sunken Scoop! our good ol' pal ashgcy is too busy doing kickflips with wild dolphins in Antarctica to write this edition of the scoop, so I will be your host for this edition of the Sunken Scoop once again! Well, I've been helping to proofread and edit ash's absurd grammar since day one, so I guess i've been here the whole time! In this scoop, we have sharks, and... more sharks. The Edestus and Aquilolamna have gotten brand new, updated feature pieces courtesy of yours truly! Besides this, we will also be revealing the winners of the Emote Contest we held in our Discord! We loved seeing your submissions, and while not all of them made it in this time, they hold a special place in our hearts! If this is your first time diving into the deep end, we are a dedicated team of individuals who are looking to spruce up the ocean biome in the same way that Scorched Earth offered a unique, biome specific challenge to survival. With new creatures, resources, structures, items and more, all set on a huge custom map, we're looking to give ARK's oceans the TLC they deserve! The main goal is to bridge that huge gap between early and late game ocean exploration, and make it much more viable and more fun to live a life beneath the waves! This is unofficial content and is only related to our mod. It is in no way related to the official game and its content releases. Let's dive into the scoop! EDESTUS FEATURE ART REDRAW Lava Jaws! Er... Jaw? Saws? What do you even call that? With Edestus being ported over to ASA, I saw it fitting to redraw its feature art! This Lava-covered Lancer of a shark uses Thermite to heat up its body, allowing it to burn its targets even underwater! While they may be tough to get, an Edestus is an excellent exploration mount, due to their bulk and airtight saddle! AQUILOLAMNA FEATURE ART REDRAW It may have flashy patterns, but it's all shark and no bite! Sailing through the shallows is Aquilolamna, our resident oddball shark! Once again, I decided to revisit this piece and freshen up its patterns a little bit! This gracile underwater glider sails across open waters on its massive wing-fins, and can take off with shocking speed when threatened! Not only that, but other underwater creatures can also hitch a ride in the slipstream that an Aquilolamna creates when swimming, boosting their speed! EMOTE CONTEST WINNERS For those of you who are unaware, we recently held a community emote contest on our Discord, with categories for our community and for the TSW team! We loved seeing your submissions, and after discussing amongst the team, we have chosen 5 (technically 7) emotes in total! Without further ado, and in no particular order, lets get into the winners! Community category (emote) clownomalocaris by occasionallymalicious (emote) Smol Ambolo by bluewhale989 (sticker) Protoceratops is à player by helene7559 Team category (emotes) ple/sio/saur by zci5250 (emote) Sad Steth by sireoptera & alkazair COMMUNITY CORNER Big surprise, the community corner is still alive!, We're certainly keeping an eye out for anything you want to send us! In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to us yourself! Send us anything from screenshots, artwork, videos and the so on, and we can feature your work in the next scoop! The submissions channel in our Discord is always open, or you can tag us @ARKSunken with #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Clips and Videos Creator: Deadeyes and Dead Guys Gaming This is part 3 of Deadeyes' showcase of TSW, which covers equipment/structures, Passive Production critters (lepi, bothri, urchin), resources and consumables! Welcome back sunken survivors! I hope you brought your party hats, because today is a very special day! In two days, the Sunken Scoop will turn 1! It's been really humbling that our little community has enjoyed them so much. Not to get sentimental, but writing the scoops is definitely a highlight of my fortnightly schedule! It's been really awesome sharing the excitement for our project with these little updates. Here's to the next year of the Sunken Scoop! To celebrate, our beloved logo is ascending! Notice anything different about that banner? But you're not here for me to get sappy, you're here for TSW content! These past two weeks, ZCI has been working on some absolutely beautiful pieces of concept art. He's made some new art for the Sunken Electrophorus (which has been missing custom concept art for a long while!) and has updated the Cameroceras' art so that it has a proper feature piece! In addition, our Discord emote competition has been receiving some wonderful submissions and the contest is still going if you want to get your submissions in. Read on to find out more! CAMEROCERAS CONCEPT ART Quick! Someone call Nigel Marven! This monster of a mollusc has received a wonderful new feature piece thanks to ZCI! This squid lookalike is a living siege engine, as its hard, sleek shell allows it to build up speed and smash through structures! And if wild creatures are more of a problem than your enemy's base? The same battering ram attacks are great at dispatching swarms of pesky aquatic life, much like the Wooly Rhino's charge on land! SUNKEN ELECTROPHORUS CONCEPT ART When an eel has a maw with an electrical jaw, that's a moray! Don't be alarmed by its toothy grin though! Despite appearances the Sunken Electrophorus is much friendlier than its vanilla counterpart. For the most part they will ignore survivors, only attacking back if provoked, or they are near a corpse. In addition, they will only use their electrical attacks as a last resort to flee from a threat too strong to fight head on. Unlike vanilla eels, Sunken Electrophorus will spawn in with size variation! The largest eels will be able to be ridden bareback... just take care not to get shocked! TSW EMOTE CONTEST There's just shy of two weeks left on the TSW Emote contest! That's plenty of time to get your submissions in, so head on over to our Discord if you'd like to participate. Below is a reminder of the rules for the contest: All emotes/stickers must be TSW related Digital art is preferred, but all mediums of art will be accepted! Absolutely no use of AI Generated Images is permitted. You will be disqualified immediately if you are found to be using these, don't even try it Keep emote image sizes to a file size of no more than 256kB Square shaped image files are preferred! We look forward to seeing your submissions! COMMUNITY CORNER The community corner still lives! The streak of back-to-back features of content from our community continues! If you have anything you want to show off, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submissions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Clips and Videos Creator: DarkEdgeTV DarkEdgeTV has another showcase! There's a certain ceratopsian with quite the attitude prancing around the beaches, and she's checking out the abilities of this adorable little character. For everything you need to know about Protoceratops, watch this video! Creator: Deadeyes and Dead Guys Gaming Part 2 of Deadeyes' showcase of the current creatures in TSW! Watch this if you're curious about how to tame Saurichthys, Edestus and Protoceratops! Screenshots Protoceratops by mangostars That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! I suppose we should wish ourselves an early happy birthday! We don't want much for the Sunken Scoop's birthday presents, but if you came to hang out in our awesome Discord that would be very cool! Have a wonderful timezone! If this is your first time seeing TSW, check out the links below to find out more! Welcome back sunken survivors! Happy Scoop Day! But some of you may be wondering what a Scoop Day even is... For all the new people joining our discord, the Sunken Scoop is our unofficial version of the Community Crunch that releases every 2-4 weeks where we show off what we've been working on! This time around, we've got some artwork and a promotional video to share! We'll also be addressing the question of "what's coming next" for the mod, though really all we're thinking about is giving snappin a well deserved break after the work he put into the update we released a few weeks ago. In addition, we're also going to be hosting an event on our discord server, the details of which will be down below! Read on to find out more! TSW PROMO VIDEO NISIS has put together an amazing showcase of the kind of work we do for TSW. If you want a bit of a sneak peek at what goes on behind the scenes (and what might be coming to the mod next 👀) give it a watch. The video shows a large portion of the work that goes into our creatures! ROTISSERIE CONCEPT ART While the new creatures we released last update certainly stole the show, there was also a huge amount of equipment that arrived to TSW on ASA as well! RexMyPet was the one behind the design of one of these pieces of equipment, the rotisserie! This structure acts as a stepping stone between the campfire and the industrial grill, allowing you to cook meat a little bit faster in the early game. But for those wanting a more primal look to their meal prep, you're in luck! While we weren't able to get it ready for release in time with the update, we're working on a bone-skin set for the rotisserie. Nothing says cooking your food in style like having a BBQ in the skull of a giant apex predator! WHAT'S NEXT? After such a massive update, there's always one question on everyone's minds... What's next! As stated previously, we're balancing working on TLCs to our older creatures and implementing entirely new ones. We don't have any set plans for what will come out before the rest, but we do intend to upscale or visually TLC every creature that was released on our ASE branch! We've got quite a lot on our list in that regard. The best way to have a general idea of what might be coming soon is if you've seen any model teasers in the Scoops, or if it is marked with the WIP symbol for its development progress in our discord. TSW EMOTE/STICKER CONTEST Over the next few weeks, we'll be hosting a community art contest for some more custom emotes and stickers over on our Discord server! If you'd like to participate, please abide by the rules below: All emotes/stickers must be TSW related Digital art is preferred, but all mediums of art will be accepted! Absolutely no use of AI Generated Images is permitted. You will be disqualified immediately if you are found to be using these, don't even try it Keep emote image sizes to 128x128 pixels, with a file size of no more than 256kB Sticker sizes should be kept to 320x320 pixels For more information, and to join in the fun, head on over to our Discord! COMMUNITY CORNER The size of the community corner is the reason why the title of this scoop is "Everyone Can Cook"! After the last massive update, we've absolutely loved seeing all the TSW related content you've been making! If you have anything you want to show off, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submssions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Clips and Videos Creator: DarkEdgeTV DarkEdgeTV is back with another amazing showcase, and this time she's checking out Edestus! If you want to know how to wrangle one of these hot-headed beasts, this is the guide for you! Creator: Freyn Freyn's also in on the action with the new update! He's going in depth on all the new creatures we added in the update, alongside some of the new items and equipment! Creator: Deadeyes and Dead Guys Gaming Part of a longer series of spotlights we'll continue to share, this one showcases Anomalocaris, Ambulocetus and Henodus! Check it out! Artwork "Supposed to be Protoceratops" by Dinobros2000 That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! There's so much more coming in the future of TSW, thanks for continuing to support our little project! And again, if you want to join in the art contest, or you just want to hang out in an awesome community, join our discord! Have a wonderful timezone! If this is your first time seeing TSW, check out the links below to find out more! Please note that if you want to play our mod, you need both the map and creature mod active. Welcome back sunken survivors! It's that time again! Sunken Scoop Day is upon us once more! But what is a Sunken Scoop? To give some context to all the new people who've joined our motley crew since our massive update, the Scoop is our unofficial version of the Community Crunch that releases every 2-4 weeks (though we've been really good at keeping it at a fortnightly pace!) where we show off what we've been working on! A few days ago, we released a massive update to the ASA branch of the mod! Snappin has been hard at work for the past week, porting over an absolute truckload of content from ASE. But ports aren't all that's in this update, how can we not talk about Protoceratops, Edestus and the two TLCs, not to mention a slew of new equipment, resources and the like! There's an enormous amount of content to talk about, so keep reading to find out more! TSW'S BIGGEST ASA UPDATE (so far) If the video above isn't obvious enough, there is a LOT to talk about when it comes to this update! First off, we have a Youtube channel now! We'll be posting teasers and other TSW-related content over there, so why not sub-scribe. Our first video showcases most of the new content we've added in this update! And speaking of said update, lets get into all the new stuff you can play with! As this update is just so massive, we'll be organising information about the new content into smaller sub-sections. Not everything will be covered in the Scoop though, we want you all to be able to experience some things for the first time yourself! We're just covering the essential, need to know information about the new releases! TLCs This update contains the Ambulocetus and Sphyrna TLCs! As you've seen in previous scoops, NISIS and Scorching_Kami have been cooking up a storm when it comes to these two loveable mascots of TSW. These TLCs are purely visual, meaning that the looks and some animations of the creatures have changed, but mechanics and abilities have remained the same. Ambulocetus will be receiving an update to its saddle design in the near future, courtesy of NISIS! New Creatures In addition to the TLCs, there's also three brand new creatures to check out! Edestus and Protoceratops have arrived to the mod, and Diadema (sea urchin) has ascended from ASE! We've seen a lot of love for these new additions, and an equal amount of questions on how to tame them, so we'll give a short summary below. Edestus These hot-headed sharks are excellent at cutting your foes down to size. Feed them sparkpowder, gasoline or thermite to get them fired up, literally! Feeding your Edestus the aforementioned resources will cause it to build heat, which will cause its attacks to do more damage! It also cooks and smelts resources while heated up. Edestus is a KO tame. In preferential order, it eats Thermite, Gasoline and Sparkpowder, and will eat raw meat when tamed. Thermite can only be gathered from the corpses of wild Edestus for the time being, there will be proper nodes to gather from on the TSW map when it releases. Protoceratops This adorable little dinosaur has quite the sweet tooth! Protoceratops is perfectly adapted to tracking down its favourite food, fruit! Harvesting trees with these ceratopsians will yield fruit instead of the normal wood and thatch. This fruit can be used as a substitute for crops, or can be eaten to provide buffs to players! In addition, if you feed your Protoceratops fruit, it will go on a sugar rush, increasing its movement speed and damage. Finally, Protoceratops are able to warn you of inclement weather, giving a series of chirps and squeaks when a storm approaches! Protoceratops is a passive tame. Feed the little fellows Simple Kibble, Fruit, or Berries. Diadema Look but don't touch! The Diadema, or Sea Urchin, is a spiky little invertebrate that lives on the seafloor. Their long spines can be used as a substitute for Spear Bolts! These can be harvested from their corpses, or produced in the inventory of tamed urchins over time. Sea Urchins are passive tames. They'll only accept Kelp as taming food, but will eat berries when tamed. New Equipment There's so much new equipment, if we explained all of it, we'd be here all day! So, we'll just be covering a few of the bigger additions we've made to the equipment/structure roster. Discovering the rest is up to you (or you can just check the roster channels on our Discord :p)! Sea Scale Armour Also known as: your best friend in the underwater early game! Sea Scale is the hide equivalent to SCUBA, providing a bonus to your swim speed with the full set. In addition, the helmet provides a small decrease to the rate of oxygen drain. Sea Scale Armour is crafted with sea scales (duh) and seagrass. Sea scales can be harvested from TSW's fish, or vanilla fish using the stone/diving knife. Seagrass can be harvested from underwater plants with the same knives. Stone/Diving Knife Some of you may remember the TSW Converter from the ASE branch, and these items are the ASA alternative! The Stone/Diving Knives can be used on certain vanilla resource nodes/creatures to yield TSW resources from them. Currently they can be used to harvest sea scales from Coelacanths and Megapiranha, and seagrass from underwater plants. Rotisserie Chuck a fish on the campfire! This structure serves as a far earlier game alternative to the industrial grill. It's essentially a faster campfire with more slots, but if you need to cook up a hefty fish dinner fast, this is the structure for you. Thermite Scope Struggling to see your enemies in the gloom of the night, or the depths of the ocean? Why not try the Thermite Scope! This weapon attachment has a thermal vision effect, allowing you to see even the stealthiest of enemies! Weapon not included... The Thermite Scope, unsurprisingly, requires thermite to craft. COMMUNITY CORNER The corner is still alive and kicking! And with the new update, we can't wait to see what adventures you get up to in TSW! If you have anything you want to show off, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submssions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Artwork Spearfishing by Dinobros2000 That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! After all that reading, why don't you go play with all the new features in the update! Also, if you're looking for an amazing community to talk about TSW with, why not come hang out in our discord! Have a wonderful timezone! Welcome back ascended aquatics! Who ordered the three consecutive weeks special? It's certainly been a very exciting past week for the TSW team! To all the new faces, welcome to the Sunken Scoop! This our unofficial version of the Community Crunch, releasing every 2-4 weeks (though we've been really good at keeping it at a fortnightly pace!), where we show off what we've been working on! So what have we been working on? Well, remember the WIP of the cute little anky-turtle in Scoop 14? Because thanks to NISIS, Liaoningosaurus' model is complete! Read on to see the loveable lug in all its glory! We have even more content in the works, but we've been so busy following our release on Ascended it's not ready for showcase just yet. Stay tuned for the next scoop because things are really scaling up to be something awesome! LIAONINGOSAURUS MODEL REVEAL I LOVE HIM GIVE ME 100 PLEASE! As mentioned above, this absolutely incredible model is all thanks to NISIS! We can't stress enough how much applause you should give this absolute wizard! Liaoningosaurus is planned to be a defensive shoulder pet! With one of these tiny ankylosaurs on your shoulder, you'll receive no ranged damage from behind! In addition, their feisty attitudes keep pesky thieves at bay. That's right, your new best friend scares off Ichthyornis and Pegomastax! You'll be able to tame one of these by dragging it some delicious fish corpses! And don't worry, it won't be as painful as Hesperornis taming! COMMUNITY CORNER After the big release last week, we have quite a few exciting things to share with you from our community! We love seeing what you get up to while playing TSW, so please feel free to share! We totally aren't narcissitic or anything. We accept screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos and anything in between! There's a submissions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Clips and Videos Creator: DarkEdgeTV DarkEdgeTV has given Ambulocetus and Anomalocaris (our favourite problem child) excellent showcases in these two videos. Taming, abilities, utility and more are shown off in the videos. Be sure to keep an eye out for her Henodus showcase when that releases! Creator: PlayiNkZ Hopping over to our Spanish community with this feature! PlayiNkZ gives a brief rundown of each creature currently in the mod! There's also some sneak peeks at the WIP creatures hiding in the mod's files! Definitely worth a watch, even if you have to turn on translated subtitles like I did! Creator: Freyn If you're looking for more mods to try in ASA, this video is for you! Freyn shows off some excellent creations made by fellow modders, and also recommends a somewhat unknown one called "The Sunken World"... I wonder what content that one has to offer? That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop! We hope you're just as excited about seeing Liaoningosaurus in game as we are! We genuinely can't wait to tame ourselves an adorable ankylosaur. Welcome back sunken survivors! Another two weeks, another Sunken Scoop! But what is a Sunken Scoop? To give some context to all the new folks we've had joining the discord server,, it's our unofficial version of the Community Crunch, that releases every 2-4 weeks (though we've been really good at keeping it at a fortnightly pace!), where we show off what we've been working on! These past two weeks, TLCs have been a big thing on our mind! For those who aren't aware already, all our creatures in the ASE branch of the mod will be receiving model upscaling and touchups over time, to bring them up to speed with the level of detail ASA demands. Thanks to Kami's hard work, Sphyrna has a nice and shiny new model! In addition, we're following in WildCard's footsteps and doing a tree reveal of our own! Our fruit trees have gotten a lovely custom look thanks to RexMyPet. And sticking to the theme of TLCs, Shonisaurus has received a visual touch up thanks to ZCI! Read on to find out more! SPHYRNA TLC Here comes my shark in shining armour! Thanks to Kami's wizardry, Sphyrna's remastered model is complete! As stated previously, this TLC is completely visual, as we feel Sphyrna's niche is strong enough as it is. Its ability to detect metal will be especially important once the TSW map comes out... no resource maps for you on our custom map! Kami is currently doing some slight touch ups on Sphyrna's animations and saddle, but once those are finished... it's hammer time! If you're looking for a comparison to Sphyrna's old model, check out Sunken Scoop 17! Look at that wear and tear on the head plates of our ore-smashing shark! Kami has really put a ton of the LC into this TLC SOMETHING FRUITY Happy Pride Month! We heard about this month being fruity so we decided to join in the fun! Back in ASE, our fruits were harvestable from trees that looked exactly the same as those in vanilla. While this worked well for the Crabnuts, for every other fruit it was a bit out of place. Bananas from a palm tree anyone? We decided very early on that we wanted some nice custom models for the trees in ASA! This will make them easy to spot at a glance, in addition to breathing a bit more life into the surface areas of the map. While TSW is primarily an aquatic experience, getting that tropical island feel is very important to us! And hey, they'll make excellent decorations if you put them in some plant pots too! Again, thanks go to RexMyPet for providing us with these precious palms and beautiful bananas! We're also considering making these fruits farmable in crop plots! We're still deciding how and what they'll require to grow, so we'll keep you posted when we have some more details. SHONISAURUS FEATURE PIECE UPDATE Shastasaurus? Never heard of her! ZCI felt that his older Shonisaurus feature piece needed a bit of a touch up, so he went and gave the big ichthyosaur a fresh coat of paint! This new piece shows off a lot more of Shoni's unique characteristics, like its love for eating invertebrates and its ability to create vortexes to hunt! There's also a small teaser of Abyssal Saurichthys' pod saddle! COMMUNITY CORNER Three is most certainly quite the charm! That's three scoops in a row we've gotten some amazing content from our community to share! We're absolutely loving all the stuff you've been sharing with us! If you have anything you want to show off, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submssions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Clips and Videos Creator: DarkEdgeTV DarkEdgeTV is back at it again with another excellent showcase of TSW's creatures! Welcome back sunken survivors! The past two weeks have really flown by for us! No, seriously, why is 2024 moving so quickly? I swear it was just January last week. Unfortunately, the speed of the past fortnight has caused most of the TSW team to be caught up in a ton of real life stuff. There's still plenty to share with you, just no fancy new pictures to show off. However, we've got a ton of fun stuff coming soon! Read on to find out what's coming next to the ASA branch of the mod, learn about the AMA we're hosting and see the behind the scenes development of Henodus! WHAT'S NEXT? More creatures. No, seriously. Jokes aside though, the release of Scorched Earth may lead you to believe that the prospect of new TSW creatures is looking a bit dry at the moment, but it's quite the contrary! Snappin is currently working on porting all of our lovely fish from ASE to ASA. Bothriolepis, Lepidotes, Materpiscis and the mean annoying one Saurichthys are coming soon to a body of water near you! And if you're on a desert ARK with barely a drop of water in sight, after the fish have settled into the sea, Protoceratops will be making its debut on Scorched! In less cryptic terms, we're working on porting over the fish first, and once those are done, Protoceratops will be coming to Scorched Earth! Below is an old teaser of the fruit-addicted ceratopsian from ASE's devkit! TSW TEAM'S AMA What's that meant to stand for? Abnormally Massive Anomalocaris? No! That's an Ask Me Anything! Over in our Discord, we've been getting a ton of really engaging questions from the community over the past few weeks, which have been super enjoyable for us to answer! It really means a lot to us seeing how everyone is just as excited as we are for the future of TSW! So, we thought we should open the floor to any burning questions that people have about all the factors that go into TSW. There's a new temporary channel in our discord to ask us about anything from our creature design process to modelling and more! We'll answer everything we can, except for things like ETAs and release dates. Those aren't fun and interesting questions, and come with the curse of ARK release dates. COMMUNITY CORNER In a solar eclipse, people get the chance to witness two planetary bodies align, in an incredibly rare and beautiful event. But a Sunken Scoop with a Community Corner is even rarer! Go check out the fun submissions we've gotten these past two weeks! In addition to the AMA we're hosting, if you have anything else TSW related you'd like to share, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submssions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Clips and Videos Creator: DarkEdgeTV DarkEdgeTV is back with another feature, and this time everyone's favourite pancake is getting its time in the spotlight! Make sure to give her Henodus stacking challenge an attempt! That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! Lots more to come in the next few weeks, and please do come over to our discord to ask us those questions! Have a wonderful timezone! Welcome back sunken survivors! Here's an o-fish-shoal statement from the TSW team, there's been a lot of fishy business these past two weeks! As always the terrible jokes are all part of the theme because we're revealing another TLC we've got in the works, Sphyrna! Our very own undersea Anky is getting a massive visual touch up for ASA courtesy of Scorching Kami. In addition, we're also giving everyone's (least) favourite scourge of the sea, Saurichthys, some love too! We've got some concept art of the visual touch ups the "lizard fish" will be receiving to match the theming of other creatures on TSW. In addition, it's also getting a brand new Abyssal variant! Read on to find out more! SPHYRNA TLC Our "hammer" might turn into a pan after all the cooking Kami did on its model! Sphyrna is currently in the process of upscaling, and man is this shark looking beautiful! Sphyrna was actually one of the first creatures added to the mod, so it's certainly very exciting to see it be brought up to ASA's quality and level of detail! Much like Ambulocetus' TLC, the attention that Sphyrna is being given is purely visual. Sphyrna's abilities will be remaining unchanged, its niche is perfect as is! ONE FISH, TWO FISH... Old fish, new fish! As mentioned earlier, Saurichthys is receiving a fresh coat of paint and a terrifying bigger cousin! If you haven't heard already, we're in the process of porting over all our fish to Ascended, and when we got to Saurichthys, we realised it was missing a much needed glow! A big part of the theming in TSW's roster is that every creature has a healthy shine to them, both as a reference to real world marine biology and due to some very important lore... Enough teasing though, you're here for the art! ZCI has gone above and beyond in his rendering of backgrounds and lighting, so go check out Saurichthys' new groove! Reef Saurichthys Native to the surface waters, the Reef Saurichthys (just your stock standard Saur' in game) patrols the sunlit reaches of the sea. While it's much more suited to chasing down smaller prey, these nimble fish have been known to snatch survivors right off their mounts! While too small to ride, they make for excellent early game guard dogs! Abyssal Saurichthys Nope. The deep sea is a hostile environment, so the life down there had to get even more hostile! Abyssal Saurichthys is the far larger, far more menacing cousin of those that live in the surface waters. These giants are a lot more indiscriminate in what they eat, with food being so scarce in the deep sea... so you're on the menu! Stronger, larger and maybe just a bit faster, the Abyssal Saurichthys is a formidable foe... or mount! Due to their increased size, these fish are rideable! COMMUNITY CORNER Seems you guys heard our plea to feature your content, because we got some submissions over the past two weeks! We love seeing the community sharing their love for our little project, so if you have anything you want to show off, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submssions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Artwork An 'artist's' rendition of Ambulocetus by occasionallymalicious Inside the mind of a Sphyrna by Pyroha That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! Hope you're just as excited as we are to see more of Sphyrna's TLC/ready to make a run for it the moment Abyssal Saurichthys is in game! If you want even more TSW, why not come hang out in our discord! Have a wonderful timezone! If this is your first time seeing TSW, check out the links below to find out more! Welcome back sunken survivors! It's time for another edition of the Sunken Scoop! What is a Sunken Scoop though? Well, for all the new denizens of our discord, it's our unofficial version of the Community Crunch, releasing every 2-4 weeks (though we've been really good at keeping it at a fortnightly pace!), where we show off what we've been working on! So what's in the scoop this time around? Well, last week we released 4 new fish into the seas of the ARK network! We'll be giving those new creatures a nice spotlight below! In addition, we're bringing back an old sunken variant with a fresh coat of paint. Let's give Sunken Liopleurodon a warm welcome back! We've also got a new piece of feature art for Sunken Plesiosaurus! Finally, we'll go over some size changes to a variety of creatures in our mod. Read on to find out more! NEW FISH Saurichthys That's a mean set of teeth! Saurichthys is a medium sized predator that patrols the waves, ready to snatch up an unaware survivor in a similar fashion to the Kaprosuchus of the swamps! These lean, mean, fish-killing machines deal bonus damage to smaller fish! If you want to add one to your school, you'll have to knock one out and feed it Regular Kibble or Prime Fish. While they may not recieve a pack bonus, having a small pack of these living torpedos is an excellent method to dismount enemy survivors! Materpiscis This placoderm makes for the perfect parent! Materpiscis is one of the best nannies in the sea, taking excellent care of any young aquatic creatures. They'll happily feed babies, no matter the size, until they are old enough to feed from a trough! Despite its rough exterior, its jaws are delicate enough to pick up the eggs of other sea creatures. In addition, this won't anger the parents, as Materpiscis has a symbiotic relationship with many species where they will guard other creatures' eggs as if they were their own! To tame one of these fosterly fish, simply passively feed them Simple Kibble or Prime Fish. Bothriolepis and Lepidotes Step aside Coelacanth, there's two new fish in town! Bothriolepis and Lepidotes may be a lot more ambient than the other new additions, but that doesn't mean they don't have their uses! Currently, these fish are untameable, but we are working on a unique taming method for our smaller sea life! Bothriolepis can be harvested for a surplus of chitin, alongside trace amounts of black pearls. On the other hand, harvesting Lepidotes yields an abundance of sea scales and raw fish meat. Sea scales are a substitute for hide, and will become more useful as we add more features from the ASE branch to ASA. NEW SUNKEN VARIANT CONCEPT ART Sunken Liopleurodon It's a Sunken Liopleurodon Charlie! (does that reference make me look old?) After being archived due to a lack of a unique niche, this pliosaur is back and more stunning that ever (literally)! While not as magical as its vanilla counterpart, this creature certainly has some tricks up its sleeve! With a hard pseudo-shell, it receives enough natural armour that survivors have taken to just riding it bareback! Furthermore, it can use these hardened scales like a battering ram, swimming alongside creatures and throwing its weight against them in a concussive shove! A lot of its design inspiration comes from the leatherback turtle, a deep diving, jellyfish eating giant from the modern day! While Sunken Liopleurodon may not have an affinity for harvesting biotoxin, it does share a resistance to stings and the deep diving nature of its real world source material! Thanks to ZCI for this beautiful feature piece. Sunken Plesiosaur Why the long(er) face? We've shown off Sunken Plesiosaurus before, but it's about time this big lad got a feature piece! To recap, S. Plesiosaurs have gotten a much needed facelift, and now have a dash attack! In addition, unless you're a fish, these giants are a lot more gentle than their vanilla relatives! They won't attack you unless you hit them first. Again, thank you to ZCI for the artwork! GO BIG OR GO SMALL? Did you want that creature small, medium or large? Our creature roster has seen a lot of changes over the years, but you've probably never seen one of this scale. While we do love our supersized creatures, we found ourselves thinking "how in the ARK's blue seas are people going to be able to keep these animals in their bases??" Water pens have the added difficulty of having to consider 3D space to keep your creatures safe from harm. On land, you only need to consider walls, but in the sea you might need both a ceiling AND a floor to protect your tames! For that reason, alongside the fact it would get downright silly trying to breed or display these creatures in your average base, we decided to shuffle some sizes around! The best way we came up with to make our creatures seem larger was to reduce the sizes of some sunken variants. Making the "vanilla" creatures feel smaller that meant that even with the downsizes, our own creatures would still be feel larger by comparison and have that "ocean kaiju" feel we want for the mod. Not everything is smaller though, we've increased the size of a few creatures to make their sizes match their new strength! People have asked us many times about how big <insert creature> is over the years, so hopefully this size comparison is just the thing you've all been waiting for! Thanks again to ZCI for organising this amazing artwork, which also contains some images made by Lowkey, RRG and Nitrin the Dead! COMMUNITY CORNER Christmas has come early, we've gotten two scoops in a row with a community corner! Can we make that a hat trick? Jokes aside we really do love seeing the community sharing their love for our little project, so if you have anything you want to show off, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submssions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Artwork Turtle Castle by dinobros2000 Close One by dinobros2000 Screenshots Anomalocaris by mangostars That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! With the new fish, Sunken Liopleurodon and the new sizes, there's plenty in store when it comes to the future of TSW! If you want even more TSW content, why not come hang out in our discord! Welcome back sunken survivors! There was a lot of quizzical activity in the past two weeks, literally! The TSW AMA was full of some amazing questions, and we thoroughly enjoyed answering everything you asked us! We've organised all the questions and answers we gave into this scoop, so you can (maybe) find out something new you didn't know about the project. In addition, NISIS is back casting his magic spells on Ambulocetus, and we've got an amazing WIP of its saddle design to show off! Keep reading to find out more! AMBULOCETUS TLC PROGRESS That water puppy is looking very well dressed! NISIS has started work on Ambulocetus' saddle design, and it's well and truly shaping up to be something magnificent! We decided early on (as you can tell from the concept art) that this saddle should have a bit more life to it than your average vanilla saddle. The days of plain brown leather straps and seats are gone, say hello to the new hotness! ANSWERS FROM THE AMA After 2 weeks of time, and 22 questions worth of answers, it seems there's a lot of things that you want to know about TSW! Below you can find all the answers to your burning questions, organised neatly into related topic sections! Protoceratops! What does it do, where does it spawn, etc. Our loveable little ceratopsian will most likely be spawning on Scorched Earth/maps with deserts until the TSW map drops. Protoceratops' main niche on the TSW map will be gathering fruit from trees (these fruits provide Aberration mushroom style buffs when eaten). They're also excellent at using their animalistic instincts to predict the weather! However, to give them functionality off of their native map, they'll function like truffle pigs, gathering increased amounts of rare flowers and rare mushrooms. We also got a few questions about combat ability on the little guys. Protoceratops is intended to be an early game mount, so expect more early game damage output and tankiness. While it's still very early in development, it will most likely be like a more agile, less tanky Trike! What went into creating the TSW Team? How do you decide who gets into the team? How would I make a modding team myself? This was a fun question! For the most part, a lot of the people in the TSW team got in thanks to "right place, right time", including me! However, when it comes to adding more team members, that tends to stem from what the project needs most. As we've said many a time, we desperately need some animators and devkit coders, so right now that's what we're looking for. When it comes to making your own team, it's important to consider what you can do yourself, then get someone to help fill in the gaps! For example, if you can do art and 3D modelling, you'd want someone who can animate and code. It's less about team size and more about diversity of skills, though we do have quite a large team to make sure we're covering all our bases when it comes to modding for ARK! However, the most important part of making a team is to make sure everyone gets along! In the TSW team, everyone hates each other! Seriously though, behind the scenes we're basically like a big weird family. All of us are super passionate about the project and just generally really enjoy each other's company, and that makes creating this mod even more enjoyable What creatures are next? How do you decide what's coming next? As mentioned previously, our current plans are to port over the fish from ASE, then start work on Proto. In addition, we have Ambulocetus' TLC coming up too! When it comes to deciding what creatures we add next, it's down to "mysterious brain goblins". Unironically though, we do have a more loosey goosey approach to what comes out next. Since snappin is our one man army when it comes to coding, the most important thing for us to consider is to avoid burnout for him and the rest of the team. It's also why we don't say too many release dates in regards to updates and new content. At the end of the day, we're just a dedicated team of ARK fans, so we try to keep things more fun and casual so we don't stress ourselves out. While we can't make any promises for what's coming next, expect creatures from ASE to be more likely than entirely new ones. As we've been saying half to death, our need for animators is a massive bottleneck, so we really need those before we can start work on the new creatures coming to ASA. How will <insert upcoming creature here> work? What're its stats, abilities and so on? With the way we design creatures, we don't tend to know exact stats until later in the development process. We also don't want to make promises on super specific mechanics in case we are unable to code them in due to limitations in the devkit. However, we tend to base power levels around similarly strong vanilla creatures, tuned up or down depending on their niches. However, all of our upcoming creatures will be tameable! We always found that being unable to tame some creatures in vanilla was really sad. Everything on the roster will function like a proper pet/mount/war-beast! What's the map going to be like on ASA? Will there be ruins? How will building work? Etc etc. First off, how big is it going to be? Simple question, simple answer. Most likely, it'll be a bit larger than The Island. In ASE, the map was comparable in size to a deeper version of The Center. The ocean won't just be a border to the map, it'll be an interconnected habitat full of life, far more interesting than the 100,000 Megalodons of most other maps! Another change from the ASE branch will be redesigning how Scurvy works. We may even end up removing it. Another exciting part of TSW for us is sharing the story behind the map! We are working on this behind the scenes, and can't wait to use ruined structures, like the Sunken City, to do a bit of environmental storytelling! In most cases, much like vanilla ARK, these ruins be able to be built and lived in, allowing for some fun RP opportunities. We aren't ready to show anything involving this story, as it's still heavy in development, but we're very excited to see you uncover the mysteries of TSW! In terms of building, it'd be dumb to have you guys wait all the way until vacuum compartments before you can live under the waves. Henodus is an excellent early game option, but for a more permanent residence Coral tier structures are going to be your go to! These living buildings will be oxygenated by our native Plant Species O, a giant alien kelp that produces fruits filled with air. Again, we're not entirely sure how the mechanics will work in game, but we are planning to have a singular Species O function like an oxygen generator for your whole base. We may end up having to make it more of an AOE like the Henodus though. We want Plant Species O to spawn in the wild like Z does. You'll be able to collect seeds from them to grow your own, or even build directly on top of a wild one for a quick and dirty home in the deep blue! There's also a bit of pressure to your way of aquatic life thanks to... uhh... the pressure! As you go deeper, the crushing darkness of the deep sea can kill! These zones will function like the radiation zones on Aberration, meaning you'll need to be well equipped to explore them, but you won't be punished for starting to dip your toes into the depths. Also, just like Ab, some creatures will be immune to the effects of these areas. Originally, we wanted pressure to be a slowly increasing debuff that restricted creatures to mostly their native depth levels, but decided against it. Realism is great and all, but when it gets in the way of a fun experience exploring a map, that's not worth it! Finally, no map would be complete without bosses! We've got <redacted>, <redacted> and <redacted> planned as our big bosses! Sorry folks, the bosses are going to be staying secret for now. We're still deciding on if they'll be world or arena bosses, but we do know that we want players to be able to bring almost anything to fight them! A lot of the team agrees, it really sucks breeding up a cool creature, only to be barred from using it in a boss fight because the game said so. What about ASE? We've said this one before, and we'll say it again. We'd love to keep both versions of the mod updated, but with snappin as our only coder that's just not possible. We're focusing our efforts purely on the ASA branch, as that's a lot more promising for modding. What about the future of TSW? Any new creatures planned? ARK 2? Other projects? As it stands, there will be no more unique creature additions to the creature roster. Our project is super ambitious already, so we can't fit more creatures in the pipeline. In terms of other projects similar to TSW, there's nothing planned at the moment, but that's not to say that it isn't out of the question. Same goes for ARK 2, we'd much prefer to finish everything we need to get done for TSW in ASA than jump ship another time, especially since we know so little about it. COMMUNITY CORNER We should start calling this the community chasm, because most of the time it's a big hole with nothing in it! Only joking around of course, but if you do have anything you'd like to share, please feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submssions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! Hope you're excited to see more of Ambulocetus, and thank you for submitting so many questions to the AMA! Come vibe in our discord if you want to see more TSW! Have a wonderful timezone! Seems the alien invasion is over! And since we're free from ZeepZorp's influence, we can drop the April foolishness and get serious again! We've been slowly chipping away at the Ambulocetus TLC over the past two weeks, and we've taught Ambulo that it's okay to be an individual! What do we mean by this? We've added in a system that adds randomised individual variation to the loveable whale-dog, meaning no two Ambulocetus are the same! In addition, we've also further developed our very old Wyrm egg concept art. BUFF, FAT AND GRUFF Here's a teaser of Ambulocetus' newfound individuality! Snappin has once again blessed us with his devkit wizardry, and added "Buff", "Fat' and "Gruff" variation to our blubbery boy. Buff gives a bit more mass to the arms and legs, Fat rounds out the belly, cheeks and tail, and Gruff gives more definition to the chin and eyebrows. These variables are randomised for every single Ambulocetus, and are intended to be retained even when cryo'ing them up, so your pet water puppies are even more special! The differences are purely visual, and aim to make TSW's wildlife feel just that bit more unique. We're currently experimenting and ideating on what other creatures could get these unique attributes! Once the TLC'd Ambulocetus model is complete, it will receive the same variation that is pictured above in our old model! HAPPY EASTER! (TAKE THESE EGGS AT YOUR OWN RISK) There's a little guy wriggling around in there! With so many draconic creatures in ARK, we thought it'd be a great idea to give our Wyrms a little something to separate them from the rest! Wyrm eggs will have a translucent section of shell that allows you to see the little bundle of joy growing inside. Thanks to ZCI5250 for refining our old concept for the sea serpent spawn! COMMUNITY CORNER Nothing to show off from the past few weeks this time around! However, if you have anything you'd like to share, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submssions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! Snappin's devkit magic is really making Ambulocetus' TLC something special! Lots more in store for TSW in the near future, so why not come chat about it all in our discord! Have a wonderful timezone! Welcome back coastal critters! These past two weeks, we accidentally left the oven on... but thankfully snappin and NISIS decided to use it to really cook! Sphyrna splashed-landed into ASA's oceans, alongside some reworked animations for Ambulocetus. But that's not the only thing we're reworking on the blubbery puppy, Ambulocetus is receiving a complete visual overhaul/TLC! We also have new concept art to share: reworked Blue Whale and Pterygotus feature pieces and a new Sunken variant: the Sunken Karkinos! Enough hyping though, keep reading to see all the amazing things we have to share! If you're new to our little community, this paragraph is for you! You're probably wondering what this "Sunken Scoop" thing even is! It's essentially our fun way of sharing updates on modding progress, in a community-crunch style format. We try to release one every two weeks! SPHYRNA HAS ASCENDED! Stop! Hammer time! Sphyrna was released in ASA last week, so it's the perfect time for a creature feature! With its literal hammer-head, it can smash clean through any rocky resources beneath the waves, all while swimming laps around the sluggish Dunkleosteus! While it has less weight reduction than the giant placoderm, an additional ability to detect oil and metal nodes with electroreception makes it an excellent undersea gatherer! In addition, its rough skin is the perfect texture for filing down materials, leading most survivors to turn its saddle into a mobile smithy! Sphyrna are simple KO tames. Just fire some tranq arrows into them, then feed them meat or Regular kibble. They much prefer a nice cut of fish meat over prime from a land creature though! TSW'S FIRST TLC I'm not the first, nor will I be the last to say this. NISIS cooked so hard on this thing. After TSW released to ASA, we received a lot of feedback about our loveable land whale that encouraged us to revisit its design. After adjusting its mechanics so that they weren't so powerful, we decided to update its visuals to be more in line with ASA! We've given Ambulocetus way more features that link it to its real world counterpart, while still keeping some of its more adorable ARK-ified traits like its blowhole-nose. Honestly though, there isn't much to say about the blubbery puppy when a picture paints a thousand words! Look at NISIS' amazing modelling work! In addition to the updated look, Ambulocetus is also getting a brand new saddle! Why not bring some ARK II inspired saddle designs to ASA, with some hollow-bone storage compartments and prehistoric-themed decals! While all these features are only visual, they sure are awesome to look at! Ambulocetus' New Groove This part of the TLC deserves its own section! Alongside Sphyrna releasing, snappin also worked on overhauled animations! Below are some comparisons between the old and the new. While usually it's bad to have too many cooks in the kitchen, snappin and NISIS working together for this TLC is truly something amazing! In order of appearance, we have the reworked Level Up and Metabolic Rush animations, then the brand new eating animation! There's also a few more for you to discover in game! NEW CONCEPT ART Blue Whale Now that is one big boy! ZCI has reworked the Blue Whale's feature piece to really sell the absolute enormity of the lad! It's not everyday you can see a creature that dwarfs a Leedsichthys. In addition, you can even see growths of algae and barnacles on the giant whale, which are part of its organic-Tek-Stryder-like mechanics! Pterygotus You'll have to get your forklift/Pterygotus certification to ride this beast! Once again, ZCI has delivered another incredible piece of invertebrate art! The reworked feature piece serves to showcase Pterygotus with much more detail and personality! But who's that in the corner fighting this giant eurypterid... Sunken Karkinos HOLY CRAB! After a very convincing presentation from ZCI, we decided it would be in our best interests to give the Karkinos a classic TSW themed rework! Sunken Karkinos will be able to jump far better than its cavernous cousin while underwater, and can switch up its style of fighting by alternating between a pair of slashing or crushing claws! And with some inspiration from Kraken's Better Dinos, we're giving it a small platform saddle as well! In addition, we're going to try our hardest to allow it to grab aquatic creatures! COMMUNITY CORNER There still seems to be quite a lot of buzz in the ARK community regarding TSW! It's been really awesome seeing how much love has been coming our way! If you have anything you'd like to share, feel free to send over some screenshots, artwork/fanart, videos or anything in between! There's a submissions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! Clips and Videos Creator: PANDA_WZ A wonderful video from the French side of our community that showcases the taming and abilities of the first three creatures in the mod! That's all for this edition of the Sunken Scoop! Certainly lots to be excited about in TSW's future. We can't wait to release the visual part of Ambulocetus' TLC! Hang on, today isn't a Wednesday... Welcome to a very special edition of the Sunken Scoop! Let's cut right to the chase, we're out on ASA on all platforms! You can find us here: https://legacy.curseforge.com/ark-survival-ascended/mods/the-sunken-world-additions! Read on to find out what's included in the mod's initial release! RELEASED CONTENT First things first, a massive thank you to snappin for all the work he's done getting TSW Additions ready for release! The guy has been a one man army when it comes to coding for the mod, so he deserves all the praise. The TSW Team wouldn't be the same without you dude! Onto the creatures though! As we've been teasing over the past few weeks, the current version of the mod contains Ambulocetus, Anomalocaris and Henodus! Until the TSW map releases, all our creatures will spawn in temporary areas on the Island. We've made a couple changes to some of the mechanics of these creatures compared to ASE, so read on to find out more! Ambulocetus Talk about a whale with a pep in its step! This blubbery boy can commonly be found lounging around, but it's not as lazy as it appears! Its unique metabolism allows it to kick its systems into overdrive, moving at greater speeds at the cost of its food reserves! And much like any other dog with a dolphin tail, they love a bit of affection from their owners! Petting this loveable lug gives your nearby creatures a bonus to their experience gain, and it's able to keep up with your pack far better than a Lystrosaurus! We're planning on adding an oxygen stat to Ambulocetus later down the line. We have a lot of speedsters in the mod, and we want to have a way to ensure each has their own pros and cons. Think Andrewsarchus/Casteroides base level of oxygen. Enough to last them a good amount of time underwater at high levels, but they'll still have to come up for air every now and then. To get yourself your own whale-wolf, knock it out and feed it meat! They're quite partial to Regular Kibble too. Ambulocetus can be found all over the snow biome! Anomalocaris SCUBA stands for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Anomalocaris, right? This little parasite is more than just a nuisance, as its unique choice of a blood based diet means it has some adaptations a survivor can exploit! Humans are well known for their inability to breathe underwater, but with an Anomalocaris on your back, you'll find that you'll never run out of O2! These Cambrian-era predators seem to have an uncanny ability to regulate blood oxygen levels as they feed, making them the perfect primitive SCUBA tanks! In addition, these adorable little bugs have the perfect sized heads to wear man made hats. This, coupled with the lifesteal that their attacks have, makes a swarm of Anomalocaris a decently powerful addition to your underwater arsenal! Anomalocaris' taming mechanic is temporarily changed from its ASE version. Previously, to tame yourself a scuba shrimp, you'd have to weaken it to the point where it would latch onto you, put narcotics in your last hotbar slot, then allow it to slurp up your torpor-laced blood to get it to knock itself out. In ASA, the latching and unique KO mechanics worked completely fine in testing, but after the fact Anomalocaris would become completely unable to be interacted with. This certainly made feeding it difficult, in addition to the fact that they'd just exist in stasis forever. For now, Anomalocaris is a conventional KO tame until a fix can be found. They love to eat anything blood-based! Ammonite Bile, Leech Blood and Blood Packs are their preferred food, in that order. Anomalocaris can be found in the ocean. Henodus Now that's what I call a houseboat! Henodus is more than just a giant pancake, this early game creature is the perfect way to explore the waves from the comfort of your own home! Functioning just like a raft that doesn't draw the attention of the boat-munching Leedsichthys, you can safely sail the seas on this turtle-lookalike's shell. In addition, it can use its giant flippers for more than just swimming, as it's also very proficient at digging! By burrowing into the ground, your Henodus takes drastically reduced damage and produces air bubbles in an area around itself if underwater! This allows you and your tames to breathe in your house below the waves. Even more useful is the fact that this property also extends to any tames-to-be that decided to wander into the water in the middle of getting KO'd! This peaceful plesiosaur relative is an herbivorous passive tame, feed it any kind of berry to convince it to be your friend. I've heard that they really flip out for Regular Kibble too! Henodus can be found in rivers and lakes. Henodus was perfect as it was, no balance changes to this loveable placodont! As we are still a heavy WIP, please make sure to report any bugs you might find! We did our best to stomp out all the ones we could find, but this is ARK. Some are bound to pop up when we least expect! COMING SOON So, what's next? We still need to upscale the models for all our ASE creatures, including these 3, but after that it's time for some new creatures! You've seen our WIPs of what we have in store, so we hope you're just as excited as we are for the future of TSW in ASA! During the upscaling process, we are planning on having some small visual TLCs as well! We'll keep you posted as things develop! YEAHHH WE'RE FINALLY OUT ON ASA!!! Thanks for all your support and understanding as we've worked on the port! Have fun with the newly released creatures, we've got a ton more planned (as you can probably tell by all the previous scoops) so keep sticking around to see what's in store! Also, come to our discord to share in the ASA experience of TSW. We want to see what you guys get up to with our creatures (and maybe feature it in our community corner too)! Have a wonderful timezone! If this is your first time seeing TSW, check out the links below to find out more! Welcome back aquatic a-fish-ionados! After a long two weeks out at sea, we've reeled in a monster... a giant edition of the Sunken Scoop! So let's catch you up on what we've been working on for the past fortnight (and why we're saying more fishing puns than usual). We've added 8 new custom creatures to our roster! While such a huge number sounds ambitious, the new additions aim to tackle something that is lacking in ARKs oceans, ambient life! While oceanic giants are spectacular in their own right, a lot of feedback and requests we've gotten have asked us to add more of the little guys. There's no sense to a ocean TLC without adding wildlife that makes the waters feel less like a deadzone no matter where you go. These new additions are all going to be their own animals, unlike the many fish schools we have on ASE (and will bring to the map in ASA), and will all have their own roles to play when tamed! Read on to find out more! I THOUGHT THE ROSTER WAS FULL... You've probably heard us say many a time that our roster of over 40 custom creatures is full to the brim, and we aren't able to add in community requested creatures... so what gives adding in a boatload of fish? The answer is quite simple. Adding in a fish is a lot less resource intensive than our more ambitious creatures like the Wyrms, Omnidens and so on! They tend to have only a handful of animations, are generally easier to model, and are relatively easier to code! In addition, they make for excellent ambience that makes the ocean feel more alive! With that explanation out of the way, let's move on to the hook of this scoop, what do all them fish do? CATCH OF THE DAY As said above, each of these fish will be separate "entities", like the Coelacanth or Lepidotes. In addition to their individuality though, each will have a simple niche that they fill! For ease of workload, the abilities these fish have will either be underwater-ified existing mechanics or simple, but interesting ideas. The thought process is that these little guys will be fun/useful additions to your school, but won't steal the show from the main mascots of the mod! Also, please note that the ideas we're proposing aren't set in stone, and could be subject to change. We've had you waiting with baited breath for long enough, let's introduce the first fish! Calamostoma Excuse this fella's cold attitude, it's been asked "why the long face" way too many times! Meet Calamostoma, the arctic-dwelling, brine-blasting pipefish! These prehistoric seahorse relatives live in the cold waters around the Ice Caps, protecting themselves from predators with an icy-blast of superchilled water. Tamed ones make for perfect guard dogs to slow the flow of enemies through your defenses. Brinewing who? Artwork by ZCI5250. Doryaspis That fish is looking sharp! The point of adding Doryaspis was to add a bit more danger to the map! These spikey little scavengers live deep in the trenches of the map. Be warned, their serrated chin-spike and pectoral fins are more than just for show, a "swim-by" from one of these fish will really leave a nasty mark! Tamed Doryaspsis are like undersea Dimorphodons, directly attacking the rider instead of the creature! In addition, wild Doryaspis have a small chance to drop a very awesome sword skin! Artwork by ZCI5250. Haikouichthys Fish for the brine pools. An ancient, transparent friend. The Haiku-ichthys! Pretty much everything you need to know about the Haikou is in the opening line, but something that was missed is that these ghostly fellows will passively produce bio-toxin over time! With Cnidaria being so much rarer on ASA, perhaps a school of these Cambrian-era fish will solve your Shocking Tranq Dart deficiency! Artwork by RexMyPet. Oceanic Sunfish No thoughts, fish empty. A unique fish from the modern era, the Oceanic Sunfish is here to brighten up TSW's seas! Functioning like a fun-sized Leedsichthys, a sizeable school of these will allow you to scrape enough fish meat to feed a whole village! All you'll need to round them up from the open ocean is their favourite food, bio toxin! Artwork by ZCI5250. Stenoprotome We've been trying to reach you about your Steno's extended warranty. The headgear on these fellows is more than just for show, as they make for the perfect handlebars to have them ferry you around! Slightly smaller than the average survivor, these colourful reef-dwellers are strong enough to drag the weight of a person and still keep swimming at full speed. Great for moving around your base with ease! Seaglide who? Artwork by WaterWitch. Tek Coelacanth An old vanilla staple gets a major version update! And unlike a Tek Parasaur these guys don't need to breathe, making them the perfect underwater element dust farms! We would like their sizes to be inheritable so that you can breed some absolutely colossal fish! However, please note that this role could be subject to change due to the fickle nature of ARK's code! We do have some other ideas for a replacement niche, which we will reveal if ARK decides to... well, ARK us :p. Artwork by ZCI5250. Tek Gebrayelichthys Gibby fish. I ain't writing that long ass name again. The nosejob isn't just for show either! These fish will use their squeegee attachments to good use, cleaning up and repairing structures for you! Artwork by RexMyPet. Tek Trilobite Man this roomba looks kinda weird... A robotic clean up crew of these fellows will do more than keep your base tidy, because they can convert your random garbage into valuable resources! While less powerful than the producing powers of a Gacha, a constant flow of valuables isn't something to scoff at! Artwork by ZCI5250. WHERE'S THE ASA NEWS? We are super close to the ASA release! There isn't much to report compared to the last scoop, just more really annoying, game breaking bugs that we are trying to stomp out. Almost unsurprisingly, the culprit is the loveable problem child, Anomalocaris. We hate to be those guys just spamming "soon", but we're working on alternatives if the major bugs aren't able to be fixed! COMMUNITY CORNER While we have plenty of content to share, we'd love to be able to share some things from our community! We accept screenshots, artwork, videos and anything in between, and we'd love to feature your work in the next scoop! There's a submissions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! That's all for this issue of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! Welcome back sunken survivors! Another two weeks has passed, which means it's Sunken Scoop time! With all the work we've been doing to get the ASA release out, alongside work for brand new creatures, January has really flown by! While we've been working, we've received quite a few recurring questions about ASA, so we'll answer the most common ones and share off how work is going too! In addition, we've also got a brand new model (WIP) to share off. Read on to see the model reveal of the amazingly loveable Liaoningosaurus! PREPPING FOR ASA SoonTM. No seriously, we mean it! In the past week we've been hard at work identifying all the current bugs with the test branch, and are now in the process of getting everything fixed up for the public release! You best believe we're going to squash every single one... buuuut knowing ARK you may run into some when we do release (and if you do, please report them)! As the public release is getting closer and closer, we've been asked quite a few common questions, so we thought we should confirm our plans through the scoop so everyone is on the same page! Will TSW be free to play? Very early on, we decided we'd always be free to play. The premium mod program seems very promising, however we aren't about to go and make our mod, which we've offered free of charge since the beginning, suddenly locked behind a paywall. If we do end up making paid content it will never impact the main mods, and will most likely be side content or completely unrelated to TSW. No plans for that currently though! Will TSW be cross-platform? Yes! We want everyone to be able to play our mod, however file size may end up being an issue later down the line. Currently in ASE we only have two mods, the map and an all encompassing additions mod that contains all the resources, creatures, etc. However, cross-platform mods have an upper size limit for each mod, as consoles don't have the same storage space as PCs. We may have to subdivide the mod further on for ASA depending on those constraints. What kinds of biomes will be on the map? We went in depth on some of the biomes you can expect to see in Sunken Scoop 8, but to summarise; you can expect to see almost everything from real world and science fantasy ocean habitats! From natural areas like coral reefs, hydrothermal vents and seagrass meadows, to more fictional biomes inspired by other media like the Seagrass Island and the Shroom Glades, the ocean is going to be a lot more interesting to explore! You may also encounter the remnants of an ancient civilisation that used to dwell on the ARK... What creatures are coming next after Ambulo/Anomalo/Henodus? As mentioned in previous scoops, we're currently in the process of upgrading and upscaling the models of creatures previously in the ASE branch. This is in addition to the new models we're making for yet-to-be-revealed creatures! Our current plans for creatures after the three releasing in the first wave of the public branch are on a "release them as they're ready" basis. We may do "pack" releases like how we did back in ASE, or you may just see a slow trickle as we complete their coding, animations and so on. However, snappin is our only ADK coder, so we are heavily bottlenecked in that regard. If you know anyone experienced in the ARK Dev Kit, let them know TSW is looking for em! LIAONINGOSAURUS MODEL TEASER Is... is this what love feels like? NISIS has truly gone above and beyond for this little ankylosaur turtle, and we can't wait to see it in game! These adorable little dinosaurs will function as a protective shoulder pet! Just give them a little harness and Liaoningosaurus can piggyback on your survivor, protecting you from thieving creatures and ranged damage to your backside! (Side note, if you know of any amazing animators please send them our way, we really want to make sure this guy feels alive when it comes to ASA) COMMUNITY CORNER In a surprising turn of events... nah just kidding still empty over here! Please feel free to submit something yourself (we're so desperate please submit something for us to share)! Screenshots, artwork, videos and so on are all fair game, and we'd love to feature your work in the next scoop! There's a submissions channel in our Discord, or you can tag us @ARKSunken or with the hashtag #sunkenscoop on Twitter! That's all for this issue of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! Liaoningosaurus is adorable. That's all this end text needs to say. Come to our discord to talk about your obligatory new favourite TSW creature, or just to hang out! Have a wonderful timezone! If this is your first time seeing TSW, check out the links below to find out more! Please note that if you want to play our mod, you need both the map and creature mod active. "And then he turned himself into a remaster, funniest thing I've ever seen!" Heyo, ZCI5250 here! You may recognise me as one of the artists for The Sunken World. Our beloved amphibious writer ashgcy is off on vacation at the moment, so I will be your host for this edition of the Sunken Scoop! In this scoop, we will be showing off some sneaky screenshots of our delightful aquatic friends frolicking about in ASA! These were taken on our private testing branch, and some things may change with the official release! As mentioned in the previous scoop, we do not have a planned release date. However, we have gotten past the major hurdles that came with porting, so all that's left to do is playtesting and bug fixing. As long as the creatures dont come up with another escape plan, you can expect to see TSW Additions on the in-game Mods tab very soonTM! ASA SCREENSHOTS While it isn't ready to be played just yet, we do have a couple of teasers for what to expect in the TSW Additions mod's ASA debut! From the living SCUBA tank Anomalocaris to the gentle giant Henodus, we mainly focused on porting over creatures which would be greatly beneficial to aquatic gameplay. Oh, the chunky proto-whale Ambulocetus managed to sneak its way in too, but we decided to let it stay. I mean, how could you say no to those puppy dog eyes? Anomalocaris What would TSW be without these iconic and (oddly) adorable arthropods? While feisty in the wild, tamed Anomalocaris will gladly provide survivors with oxygen while underwater... at the cost of slurping up some of your blood! Just be prepared to repair your chestpiece every now and then, their graspers are mighty strong for their size! Henodus Paddling gracefully through the billowing bogs, one can find the charismatic Henodus! These odd sauropterygians are an incredibly important tame for a life beneath the waves. When submerged, a Henodus will release air bubbles from its back, which you can build on to create an early game underwater home! Ambulocetus And last (for now) but not least, we have the Ambulocetus! Found up north in frigid waters, these peculiar mammals are a perfect exploratory mount! Not only are they able to traverse land and sea, but they can even invigorate themselves with a metabolic rush that makes them move and attack faster! You can even pet them, which is not only abso-friggin-lutely adorable, but will also give allied tames a boost in XP gain! COMMUNITY CORNER We haven't received any submissions for the community corner this week, but we're certainly keeping an eye out for anything you want to send us! That's all for this issue of the Sunken Scoop, thanks for tuning in! We hope you're just as excited to play with TSW on ASA as we are, and we will have more to share in the next one! Come to our discord to share in the excitement, or just to hang out!
