The Dinoponera Matriavastus, The All-terrain Forklift Ant!
Dynomyster posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
Disclaimer: I am no artist so visual representation won't be super great, but hopefully my written descriptions will suffice! Also The species might not fit the time period qualifications for submission, but it does not need to be this ant species specifically. But in my head since this is extinction I figured the element corruption grew an ant on earth to a massive size, if that is not acceptable then just imagine it is a cousin species of the titanomyrma that underwent the same corruption process! Specific species isn't super important to me, I just think a ride-able ant in ark would be dope! Wild Spawn The Dinoponera Matriavastus is a creature you will never find on it's own. Because of this, they benefit from a pack bonus that gives a substantial damage reduction buff. When killed the Dinoponera drops a large amount of chitin and a small amount of meat. The Dinoponera workers spawn in the vicinity of a nest, which looks like a man sized anthill sticking out of the ground. Inside the nest is the Dinoponera queen, who will occasionally leave the nest to wander before returning into the tunnels. The Dinoponera is not aggressive to humans unless they get close to the nest and the queen. They share the same temperament to wild creatures except small creatures like dodos, lystros, etc, and they will consume corpses. Because the Dinoponera reproduces asexually, the species only contains females and all of the workers will be an identical level to their queen, so if you see mis-matched levels of workers it means another nest is nearby. The nest will act as a structure and is destroyable, when destroyed it forces the queen out and aggros her and all of the workers. Once the nest is destroyed all Dinoponera will stop spawning in the area and any existing Dinoponera will slowly despawn when out of render, so you can clear nests in the hopes of finding a higher level nest nearby in the future. Taming You first have to reach the nest without being detected by the workers. The queen can be coaxed out of the nest by dropping honey just outside of the nest, or you can wait for her to naturally emerge. Once the queen is out of the nest you must feed her bug repellent without drawing aggression. This will cause her to lose health quickly until she dies. Killing the queen this way will not aggro the workers. Once the queen is dead, access her inventory and remove her pheromone. Then apply the pheromone to yourself. If you currently are affected by bug repellent yourself, you must wait for the effects to wear off. Be careful of how long you wait, as the pheromone will spoil within a few minutes outside of her inventory. When you are affected by the pheromone, if you are attacked by any creature, nearby workers will come to your aid. This could help save your life, or get the workers killed by accident, so watch your surroundings. Once covered in the pheromone, approach a worker and it will give you a request for some kind of resource. It could be a basic material or a basic food, ie wood, stone, berries, raw meat, etc... Put this item in your last inventory slot and give it to the worker. The more of that item you have in a stack, the more tame progress will be made. So giving it a full stack of 100 wood will give it more tame progress than giving it a stack of 5. Continue filling the requests of the worker until the tame is complete and you have a Dinoponera! You can technically tame as many Dinoponera as there are in the area, but because you only have 30 minutes of pheromone you have to manage your time properly. Once the pheromone wears off, any wild Dinoponera in the area will instantly aggro on you. Breeding Unfortunately since you cannot tame the queen they would not breedable. But I have been debating whether or not they should be. Maybe a decent idea would be the ability to feed a worker certain items and it will transform into a queen, giving you the ability to have one that lays eggs. Possibly feeding a worker 1-5 queen pheromones will turn it into a queen? I'm still split on this part simply because I love breeding and getting mutations. Saddle Upon reaching level 35 you unlock the Dinoponera saddle, which is crafted in the smithy and costs: metal, hide, fiber, and chitin/keratin. This saddle would provide the usual 25 armor and visually would have slight armor plating and saddlebags all over it. It's saddle acts as a crafter, but not a smithy or mortar+pestle. This saddle is able to craft unlocked primitive engrams that would normally need to be crafted in your inventory. So primitive structures, certain saddles, and much more could be crafted on the move without the need for a blueprint. Utility Weight Reduction Once tamed, it is an exceptional beast of burden, capable of reducing the carry weight of wood, thatch, fiber, hide by -40% while reducing the carry weight of stone, metal, flint, obsidian, crystal by -35%! On top of that it reduces the carry weight of all structures by -50%! This makes it extremely useful when moving large quantities of supplies or setting up/moving to a new base location. It can gather wood, thatch, meat, hide, berries, and fiber, albeit at a relatively inefficient rate. Not the best for gathering, but will do in a pinch. Traversal & Mandibles It is able to climb walls and uneven terrain fairly quickly. Pressing the crouch key while riding a Dinoponera allows you to use it's mandibles to pick up certain things. It is capable of picking up and carrying storage boxes, similar to how the rhynio can carry structures. But the Dinoponera can only carry small storage boxes, large storage boxes, and vaults (vaults will act as a drag that I will talk about shortly). It's mandibles are also able to pick up and carry creatures. Anything with a drag weight of 100 or below can be picked up and carried. Not only that, but creatures that fit the weight can also be picked up and carried if they are dead or unconscious! The Dinoponera is also capable of dragging creatures with a drag weight of 101-300! The drag is quite different from the carry. With dragging, the Dinoponera can move heavier objects, but because of the weight, must focus all of it's strength moving it. Therefore when dragging heavier creatures and metal vaults, the Dinoponera can only walk backwards. But have no fear! The Dinoponera is capable of climbing up surfaces backwards, so you can still drag that unconscious Ankylo up a cliff! This can be quite useful to move knocked out creatures to a safer area for taming. It also has use as the ability can drag corpses, making you able to bring a corpse to a tame with better gathering efficiency or even transporting bodies to assist in Carchar taming! Although you would still need to drag the body closer to the Carchar yourself, the Dinoponera can move the corpse quickly from a further distance. Dinoponera Nectar Lastly, when 1 honey and 20 berries are placed into the inventory of a Dinoponera, it will convert the honey into a sweet and nutritious nectar that will provide +40 food as well as a 15% bonus to movement speed, stamina, and stamina regeneration for 15 minutes! The Dinoponera love this nectar and it can be fed to them as well, doubling the effectiveness of the nectar but for only half the time. -
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Introduncing... THE HELL ANT! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CUSTOM DOSSIER! 3D MODEL CONCEPT! DOSSIER ART AND 3D HELL ANT MODEL BY ME ( SURVIVOR MODEL BY WildCard ) LISTED CONTENT : 1 - Custom Dossier 2 - Dossier Text 3 - Nature 4 - Taming & Tamed 5 - Breeding & Mutations 6 - Special Abilities 7 - Stats & Spawn Suggestions 8 - Feeding 9 - Appearence of the Colony 10 - Note 11 - Summary ----------------------------------------------------------------- -DOSSIER : WILD : If you ever bump into a Haidomyrmecinae, also known as Hell Ants, don't freak out, they're likely to be doing what they always do, collecting resources and food for their colony and Queen. But don't ever try to mess with them, because when these big Ants notice that something is threatening their Queen, all of them, i mean ALL OF THEM will hunt that threat down quickly and give them a very slow and painful death, since they can impale their prey and eat them alive, and somehow this can heal them, like if they were sucking the blood out of their prey. Even with all of that, they still don't seem to be the strongest or toughest giant insect around these lands, but they're extremely useful in other situations, for example: With their ability to carry things that are 5.000 times it's own weight, combined with their extremely strong mandibles, these Ants can rotate said mandibles up to pick up and carry raw resources, heavy boxes, dinos and even eggs with ease! It's even better combined with their other ability to climb walls, something they are really fast at, faster than any other living creature I've seen around here. So a survivor could mount into one of the Ants, quickly grab wild eggs and run, or even redecorate their surroundings by picking up trees, rocks, or crystals and moving them to other places without destroying them! DOMESTICATED : Taming these Ants is not easy, even more when considering that you won't tame the worker Ants, but their Queen! To do that, the survivor will need to get rid of the workers Ants and then "blend in" as a worker with Chitin Gear, then feed the Queen with her needs to gain her thrust! After that, you will be able to use the Queen to give life to workers Hell Ants that will follow your orders as long as the Queen is alive. So keep her safe! Still, on that topic, did you ever see a bunch of Ants carrying Cockroaches or Lizards around? Well, now, since they're giants, they seem to do the same, but with enormous creatures! I've seen them carrying corpses of a Rex, Spino, and even Giganotosaurus! One survivor also reported to me that his tribe managed to teach these Ants to carry giant dinos that were being domesticated! I imagine this skill would be very useful for moving creatures that are being tamed around in a danger zone to safer places! ----------------------------------------------------------------- -NATURE : Haidomyrmecinae or Hell Ants are neutral creatures, they won't attack you unless you attack them... Or get too close to their colony, so watch your surroundings, if you see a Hell Ant there's probably a colony around, and if they get angry at you... Everyone will attack you to protect their queen and colony. While collecting resources for the colony and Queen, the Ant's will destroy the nature and a few dinos around you, so it's NOT the best decision to build close to the colony or you'll be running out of resources or even your life very soon. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -TAMING : To tame the Hell Ants you can't tame the Hell Ants themselves (workers), but rather the Queen. You'll need to kill all of the Ants around the colony but leave one alive, then equip the Chitin armor and go to the colony entrance to "apply for work". After that, you'll need to mount on the last Ant and use it's ability to pick up corpes and carry RAW resources with its strong mandibles to bring what the Queen is asking for, then drop it on the colony's entrance. After the bar is filled up, you'll tame the queen and she'll get out the colony to follow you, plus a guaranteed male for breeding! -TAMED : Once the Queen is tamed, you'll have the Queen following you to a safer place, once you're there, you'll need to make her stop following, then press the option for her to dig underground and start building the colony. ( There are theories that say the Queen of the Hell Ants actually participated in their actions, such as killing things and perhaps in building the colony, so I'm applying it here. Why, you ask? Well, making the player go through another minigame of collecting resources sounds painful, but it could be nice since she'll basically turn into a machine of endless Ants, so it's a long process for big reward. ) But be sure to protect the Queen, because if she's gone, your Hell Ants will go against you. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -BREEDING AND STATS ( GETTING MORE ANTS ) : When you tame the Queen, not only the Queen will get out of the colony, but you'll also be quaranteed a male Ant too so the breeding can be done. To do the breeding, you'll need to make the Queen build the "colony" and hide inside, then make the male hide inside it too, after that you'll simply need to do a small minigame to bring raw resources or corpses for the Queen while mounted on an Ant and when the bar is full, the breeding will keep happening and new Ants will keep being born until the bar is empty, with the need to be filled again with resources and food. The offspring will always come in multiple amounts at a time and each one will carry differents stats and different mutations from each other ( Perhaps between 3-5 or more ). The offspring will always carry mutations from the Male. To replace the male, the player will need to take the one that is inside the colony, then put the new one in. -HOW MUTATIONS WORK : When the Queen gives life to the Hell Ants, each one will have a high chance to come with mutations and each one will have different mutations. When a female comes out, there's not much to do with them when it comes to breeding, but when a male comes out, you can replace the other male with this one and be almost quaranteed to get these mutations into the offspring. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -SPECIAL ABILITIES : •CLIMB WALLS• Hell Ants are really good to climb walls, maintaining it's high speed and are able to carry and steal eggs, carry dinos, boxes, object and structures while doing it too! •PICK UP STORAGES• With it's ability to pick up things 5.000 times it's own weight, these Giant Ants are able to lift smithys, furnaces, boxes, storages vaults and many other objects with stuff inside them, with a guarenteed weight reduction! •PICK UP CREATURES AND CORPSES• Once again, these Ants use that big strength to lift and carry around way bigger wild and tamed creatures around, even while climbing walls! Something never seen before in Ark! •PICK UP CREATURES IN THE TAMING PROCESS• By using multiple Hell Ants, the player can make each one attach themselves to a creature being tamed, then use the follow command while mounted on another Ant, this will make the Ants follow you while they carry the creature being tamed. This would be extremely useful to help players move taming dinos to a safer place easily and not get them killed. The size of creatures could go up to a Rex, since they can carry close to 5.000x they weight, bigger than that would be a bit too much ( At least it's what I think ). •PICK UP EGGS• With the click of the right mouse button or C, the player can do the "grabbing" animation and pick up eggs! This is a very useful way to do this since the Ants are REALLY fast on ground, when climbing walls and take little to no fall damage! ( But as a nerf, the Eggs could receive damage WITH the Ant when it's attacked ) •TRAP MANDIBLES AND STEAL HEALTH• Hell Ants evolved in a different way than your average Ants, these big insects evolved with mandibles that points upward instead to sideways, not only that but it can be rotated quickly up and down to impale their prey. So with these mandibles, they can swing them up and trap creatures, and when you got them impaled, you can do damage and steal health, healing your Ant. ( I'm not sure how this skill would apply when it comes to sizes of creatures it's able to pick up, 'cause being able to repeatedly trap bigger dinos would feel broken, so maybe it can only trap small-medium size dinos? But then how does it makes sense if it can pick up things 5.000 it's weight? Maybe a cooldown between these could help. ) •STICK TO BIGGER CREATURES• Tamed Ants have the ability to "stick" to BIGGER creatures for a ride, even the flying ones, just like the Deino, but without the insane damage. ( As a nerf, this could only be allowed on tamed creatures, but i'll say that it could be intersting to glue into enemy dinos and start shooting from it while the enemy can't do much. ) •CARRY RAW RESOURCES• Did you ever feel like redecorating your surroundings with natural objects such as Trees, Rocks, Crystals, Mushrooms, etc..? Now you can! With the Hell Ant's ability to pick up raw resources, you can pick Trees and line them up around your house, or you can pick up colored Cyrstals and put them inside your house, or even hide your home with Mushrooms! The possibilities are endless! ( There could be a way to block these resources from getting destroyed, maybe only the Ants could pick them up and destroy after being moved. ) The Ant also can destroy these raw resources they're carrying, but can't collect all of them. •WEIGHT REDUCTION• Hell Ants have incredible weight reduction on basic materials such as Rock, Wood, Stone and Fiber. •GROUP BUFF• When you have at least 3 Ants with you, your Ants will get a buff that increases weight reduction, speed and damage. ----------------------------------------------------------------- STATS AND SPAWN SUGGESTION : -Not much Health; -Almost endless Stamina; -Very fast ( Even when climbing walls ); -Little to no fall damage; -Really big weight amount; -Weight reduction with basic resources; -Damage isn't very good; -Very slow on water. SPAWN : The Hell Ants and the colony would always spawn on "easier" areas of the map with less carnivores and more Trees or Mushrooms around. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -FEEDING : Berries and Meat ( Mainly Herbivore ). ----------------------------------------------------------------- -APPEARENCE OF THE COLONY: The colony won't be this giant thing, 'cause i'm sure it would result in many colonies flying around the map 'cause they spawned above rocks, so it coul rather be just a big entrance to it, like when the Roll Rat digs underground. Something that would 'cause the least bugs possible but still noticeable so the player won't miss it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -NOTE : Some of you could be asking about the other "jobs" of ants, like the soldier and the drone, well... I simply think that this creature has enough as it's, adding another "type" of Hell Ant could be too much, and I don't think there are "Soldier Hell Ants", simply... Hell Ants. About the drone, well, we already have the Rhyniognatha and this is Aberration, so... no flyers. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -SUMMARY : The Hell Ants may not be the strongest, but they are extremely versitile creatures! They can pick up dinos of many sizes from wild, domesticated AND being domesticated and move them around, they are perfect for stealing eggs and are extremely useful to movee bases with the ability to pick up storages, and decorate your bases with the ability to move raw resources without destroying them! ... And they can climb walls while doing all of that!
