Antarctotrechus Balli (The Bastion Beetle)
Doseishy posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
This is another Bastion Beetle submission. I get people want it to die, but to me I genuinely love bugs and wanted bastion beetle to win. I have been giving Bastion Beetle some thought and I am still working out a solid idea! I do not expect Bastion Beetle to even come close to the top this time because of how late it is, but I wanted to try anyways and get some opinions and thoughts of the new bastion beetle idea. Even if there is hate here that will not deter me from reposting it when it is completely ready. Without further ado, Here is my new idea for bastion beetle! Antarctotrechus Balli Aka The Bastion Beetle Antarctotrechus Balli is a large and very rare creature found in the underground jungle (redwood biomes or bog biomes on maps without underground jungles) to which it seems well adapted. This unusually large beetle resembles a Rhinoceros beetle but on a much more massive scale. Aside from their unusual size, these creatures seem to have a strange implant made of purified element. Males have this implant on the horns and the females on their bellies. The males of this species are extremely territorial and will become aggressive and will attack anything that they think is challenging them. They will use their large frontal horn to try and flip their opponents over or knock them off of what they are standing on. It is suggested to never to and approach a male near a cliff because of this. Females of this species are usually quite docile and will not attack unless necessary. They are so docile that a survivor can walk up to them and pet them without any issues. I have seen one tribe that was able to tame an Antractotrechus Balli. They claim to have an area covered in red extinction sap which lured multiple Antarctotrechus Balli to the area to feed. Eating the sap seemed to cause the Antarctotrechus Balli to release certain pheromones' that started a mating ritual to begin. The males and females of the species began fighting each other until only one female and male was left. This pair then mated and laid an egg in the ground nearby. The pair was seen dead a few days after mating but death was not caused by the injuries, it seems this is simply how the Antarctotrechus Balli life cycle progresses. After the egg was laid and the parents had left, the tribe walked over to it and found that the egg was getting cold very quickly. They brought a creature that produced the right amount of heat and began incubating it right away (If you use a creature that is not warm enough the level will not be as high.) The young of the Antarctotrechus Ballis favorite foods are in order, Red Sap, Blue Sap, Element, Sap, Crops, Berries. Once the larva has hacthed it can be carried on the shoulder. Male Bastion Beetles duking it out for a mate. (I am aware these are Rhino Beetles.) Art done by TheActualAngel There is more art to come! With the abilities, I wanted the bastion beetle to feel completely different between the female and the male. Sorta almost like shadowmanes, but to a more noticeable degree. This is more pushed with a tek saddle, though I have gotten feedback that maybe the tek saddle just isn't right for this creature. I am messing around with it still. It is just a idea atm, and hey maybe wildcard will see this post in future votes and think the tek saddle was a good idea but the execution needs to be different. I am a firm believer of showing more potential abilities is better because it gives more of a idea of what a creature can do, even if the abilities are not 1 to 1 in the final product. ABILITIES: Male Abilities: Males have a large horn that is used to knock enemies back. They can carry creatures in their horn that is Carno size or smaller and can use this ability to either transport aggressive creatures safely or thrash them around to deal damage. Their horn is sharp so they can cause impaling when they grab a creature and thrash around or headbutt them. Males also have the ability to fly long distances if necessary thought somewhat slow. The longer the male the runs the more damage it does (it does not increase in speed as it runs). Although not capable in the wild, tamed males can get the fuzz around their horn covered in sap. If covered in blue sap, they can hold creatures slightly larger than a carno, but no bigger than a Allo. If they have red sap, it causes the impale to bleed out faster due to the red sap opening their wounds more. Purple sap can be made in their inventory. If they have purple sap on their fuzz, then they gain a good attack stat bonus for a short time. The purple sap will also allow it to use both red and blue sap properties. Tek saddles allow them to imbue their horn implant with increased damage and has an energy field around it as the element resonates with the power from the saddle. The energy field changes properties when exposed to different types of sap. Blue sap increases armor and gives them better healing (around armor.0. Red sap gives the horn armor piercing and and increased attack (like a tek sword but around the horn). Female Abilities: Females can run and can fly slightly faster than the males. Females have the ability to gently push things out of their way as they move. This includes pushing away creatures without angering them. Females also have a headbutt attack that does decent damage. They can body slam things under themselves. Females have higher natural resistance, but lower damage overall than males given the fact they do not have as many abilities. The females tek saddle prevents them from flying due to it's placement. The saddle does not slow the beetle down however and in fact increases their speed. The beetle has a large tek cannon on it's saddle that can fire normal cannon balls as well as blue, red, and purple artillary shells made in it's inventory with sap. Blue shells are crafted with blue sap, element, and gunpowder and cause a plasma explosion which stuns creatures (especially tek creatures) and disables electronic devices for a short time like an EMP. Red shells are made with red sap, gunpowder, and element and create gravity fluxtations that drag creatures closer and afflict burning for 2 seconds. Purple shells is a 5 second energy wave that freezes enemies in place and burns them. To make purple sap you must have red and blue sap and element. Difference between male and females. If you do not like the suggestion then you dont have to vote for it! Please let us be civil and not argue over it. I would love suggestions to make it a even better idea! Thank you for reading what I have. -
Protochelydra, the anti-flier swamp savage!
LagiSG posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
Common name: Protochelydra Species: Protochelydra zangerli Time: Late Paleocene Diet: Carnivore Temperament: Aggressive Breedable: Yes Rideable: Yes Wild: Protochelydra zangerli is a creature I've had the displeasure of encountering in the waters of the ARK multiple times in the past. It resembles an alligator snapping turtle, except if it was the size of a Diplodocus with the aggression of an allosaurus. Protochelydra usually hunts as an ambush predator, using its worm-like tongue to lure in smaller prey and eat them, much like its modern-day counterpart. Unlike the alligator snapping turtle, however, if the Protochelydra fails, it will immediately charge at its prey, ramming into them to stun them, and finishing them off with its incredibly powerful bite. It's surprisingly quick despite the obvious factor of it being a turtle, though it seems to only be capable of short bursts of speed on land. In the water, it's quite quick, making escaping it in the water unlikely. One's best bet in terms of combatting this titanic turtle is to wear it down from a range. I've observed Protochelydra displaying high levels of aggression towards Spinosaurus, usually immediately upon spotting one. The two commonly fight, but on most occasions both creatures will come out alive, merely wounded. Protochelydra seems to enjoy preying on Sarcosuchus and other semi-aquatic predators, as well as Paraceratherium, DIplodocus, and toher large herbivores. It's recommended to keep these creatures away from an area with Protochelydra present. Domesticated: From what I've seen, Protochelydra is an excellent choice for one to tame. It's heavy defenses and powerful jaws allow to menace foes, and many that haven't seen it don't expect it to charge at them. A very technologically advanced tribe I've met attached cannons to its shell, allowing it to deal with flying enemies with ease. Combined with its defenses, it's able to combat threats on land, sea, and in the sky! Taming: Protochelydra would be given bait by the player, which it would use to lure and eat other creatures. Perhaps one could even sacrifice their own tames in this process. Larger creatures would yield higher taming effectiveness and progress on the taming bar. Saddle: The Protochelydra saddle would have anti-air cannons on its back, and be unlocked around level 70 or so. The rider would be in an enclosed seat, protected from harm and provided with infinite oxygen. It would have a corvus at the top front of the shell that could be used to board enemy platform saddles and rafts, as well as get on buildings. Spawns: Protochelydra would spawn in basically any in-land body of water on the map, as well as in the swamps and marshes. ----------------------------------------------------Abilities and uses -------------------------------------------------------------- -Bite: The left click attack of the Protochelydra. Hold left click to charge the bite up for a high damage attack that only has it's damage reduced by half the normal amount that the enemy's armor would normally reduce. -Rushdown: The right click attack of the Protochelydra. Short burst of speed that deals decent damage to multiple enemies. Applies a slowing and bleed debuff and activates the corvus (roman naval boarding device, it would merely extend, not lock Protochelydra in place). -Shell Armor: It's shell reduces damage taken by 20%. Protochelydra can retreat into its shell, bringing the resistance up to 50%. While in this state, Protochelydra can use two more abilities. This makes it excellent for tanking, especially in bossfights. -----Cannons: Protochelydra's rider can control its cannons, which deal decent damage on their own, but either have a 50% damage boost towards fliers or knock them out of the air. It's important to note that other tribemates can control the cannons while its not in its shell, but the rider gains the ability to do so. -----Shell Spin: Protochelydra can spin while retreated in its shell. It cannot move while spinning. While spinning, it removes any debuff it has and if it's being grabbed by anything large enough to pick it up (Rhyniognatha and Tek Skiff), the spin releases it from its grasp. If on the ground, it spawns a temporary shrapnel hazard that deals average damage to grounded creatures but high damage to flyers and bulky creatures, further making it a threat to them. The Shell Spin would also knock enemies back, acting as a "Get off!" attack. -Lure: Protochelydra can have bait placed on its tongue, acting as a more effective fishing rod. On top of this, it would also be capable of attracting creatures without triggering their aggression. -Aquatic Affinity: Protochelydra does not need oxygen, and it moves quite fast underwater. It would also gain the hydrated buff. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I decided to submit Protochelydra as I'd love to have a giant snapping turtle in the game. I think they're pretty interesting and underappreciated animals. Ark only has 2 turtles in the game, one of which is a fantasy creature, and the other merely exists as a soaker and sacrifice creature. I would like to note that while yes, a giant turtle with cannons on its back is similar to a certain monster from a successful franchise, no, I didn't base it off that. I was like halfway through making this thing when I realized the similarity. Please consider voting for Protochelydra, as it would be a wonderful addition to the game. Though my post obviously isn't as well made as some other posts I've seen, I do think it deserves a chance. Image source: https://twitter.com/TomHoltzPaleo/status/1312001720940138503-
