Maevia Eureka-The Fluffy Jumping-Spider Tranq Bola
Doseishy posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
This is another one of my favorite submissions done by someone else. Sovira made the dossier themselves and came up with the original submission. If they do post I would like this post to be subbed off of their post. [Artwork done by Sovira.] Sovira:Hello allies of the Ark! My submission here is a jumping spider species that is said to have lived once between 23 and 15 million years ago, and the excitement of that discovery led to its last name, eureka! I genuinely hope to see Maevia eureka find its way to Ark some day, any support for it is infinitely appreciated, please take a moment to toss it a vote if you would like to see it around in Ark! (This art is from Sovira) These are my thoughts on how Maevia eureka could fit into the world we play in, in a way that reflects real life jumping spiders combined with genetic modifications from other spiders, and how they might fit into Ark in a fun and meaningful way that reflects other creatures of Ark and how important each and every one of these creatures is. I felt that, as Maevia is more of a taming companion, this gives us a different way to tame creatures using a non-harmful method! As it is on just about any map, there are many risks you take while engaging with your targets due to the fact that the Ark can be quite chaotic so having to be weary of your surroundings at all times is one thing, but the larger the creature, the weaker the bola... You may find yourself having to maneuver around an area and keep your targets attention while allowing for your jumper to gather enough venom to ensnare it once again. Habitat - This is a creature that is capable of being added to any map in the game due to its likeliness of living in caves, but also as jumping spiders can be found in so many different environments, there particularly are no limits to where they could be found! Ability - Prey Lure You're out roaming around on your two equus when one of them begins to pick up an irresistible scent coming from a nearby cave wall. Your equus is nibbling on a suspended droplet when you notice the faint glinting coming off the web it's attached to, within an instant a jumper has lunged at your equus covering it with its bola and is quickly wrapping it up in its webbing, but in order to free your companion you need to tear at the webbing, as a few good kicks will send that jumper scurrying up the wall to hide! Ability - Tranq Bola The thought is that jumpers could take the droplets they store and work them into their webbing to create venom-coated webs that could be thrown like a bola. The webs would have a tranquilizing effect whenever touched, thus causing their target to build up torpor and eventually go unconscious. Ability - Latching As a jumping spider, they have outstanding agility and the ability to crawl on walls, but at a more rapid pace, maybe even with the cost of stamina drain for balance! An optional thing I had given thought to was the ability to fully latch onto smaller prey in order to accurately cover the target with their readied net. Ability - Locking On This is the single feature that would make this creature so invaluable, and even possibly make it require a very difficult feat for taming it due to that power, as with the spiders extreme accuracy, it could 'lock onto' a target, and the net cast would be immediate, rendering even jumping managarmrs unable to jump, though I do feel that stamina might be a way to balance this out! Trait - Scary Face This spider was designed in thought with evolving to be able to terrify larger than normal predators, making it an incredibly useful tame for bases, keeping your creatures better protected when having to move them around the map, I imagined it could come with an extra ability to raise its back legs with its abdomen to stay in this stance on the ground, or you could enable an option within the radial menu allowing it to find and hang down from a nearby pole, perhaps even a new item for the spiders and flyers alike, akin to a perch? Trait/Ability - Dance! Jumping spiders in the real world have very little differentiation on sizes between male and female. The idea was that the males would be the ones that allow you to get close enough to tame them, while females will try to kill you if you do this, and when you find a male companion, he has the ability to dance when you find a female, you can engage in this dance, maybe a left/right/up/down type of button combination you have to get right in order for her to find your boy worthy of her prescence, and in the meantime you can shower her with presents of food until she wants your boy to dance for her again, gradually gaining her trust. When a movement is not corrected quickly enough, she would become hostile and attack, and you may have to wait for her to cool off before you can attempt this ritual again! Dossier! If there's one thing I can say about Maevia eureka, you do not want to be caught in its sights! I once witnessed a jumper locking onto its prey with the most incredible accuracy, lunging at it with lightning speed and within the blink of an eye, its prey was being saved as a snack for later. They seem to have the genes of a few other spiders like that of the ogre spider, as it can cast a gathering of its webbing along with a little dab of the venom droplet it keeps stored on its head, working that into its web to create paralytic bolas that seem to render its prey unconscious. I have reason to believe the hairs that grow on its back legs came from the peacock spider, but due to its need for protection, it also uses these 'feathers' as a menacing face that can scare off large predators, I've seen some tribes set up posts that they can hang from around the fronts of their bases. I will say one thing is for certain, though they are nearly the size of a dire bear, they are quite the cuties, especially for being a spider, there is a certain intelligence you can see when you look into their eyes, I just can't place it, but they truly make remarkable companions with the ability to rapidly scale walls, caves, cliffsides and such. By no means are they a beast of burden, however they make up for this with their abilities to constrict or assassinate their targets. Maevia eureka can take down much larger prey with its torpor inducing bola, the net cast, and this makes them remarkable allies for taming other creatures. Though I haven't been able to get close enough to befriend one of the females, the males don't seem to mind me being in a remote vicinity with them as much -
This is pretty much the same ol Bastion beetle we know and love. the original idea will be posted below as well as my take on the bastion beetle. In the end I don't thing the abilities will make its true identity since we know wild card will change it up to their liking. My Suggestion The bastion beetle is a neutral creature. The bastion beetle can be found in the Scotland biome or the meadows biome. (Image taken by Lord_Folan) (Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I understand Antarctica wasn't a cold desert wastland when Antarctotrechus Balli lived). They have natural armor, making it pretty much a walking tank. The only way to tame a bastion beetle is to find its nest of grubs. You must then passive feed the grubs. In this case we could possibly switch coffee grounds with Long grass seeds. Feeding them will not be a easy task though. You have really tanky parents protecting their young. If you go near their nests they will get enraged and try and kill you. During this state they deal more damage. Imagine trying to fight a walking tank, that doesnt sound too fun. To make sure the adults are dealt with you can either bring a arthroplura or you can throw oil jars at them. Arthroplura spit shreds their armor and makes them more tolerable to deal with. The beetles don't really like oil too much. Some well placed oil jars will for sure keep them at bay for a minute or two. Bastion Beetles abilities Bastion beetles are quite fast predators. Once they start charging at you, it will be hard for them to stop. (I read one article saying they were probably a fast runner, I think it would be funny, scary and cool seeing a giant beetle charging at you). If the charge is done by a male beetle and hits you, it will impale you causing bleed damage for a short time and slow you down. If the charge is done by a female beetle then you may be fine assuming no other beetles are charging at you that is. The female beetle will stun you or your creature (Up to rex tier). They can even fly albeit not very fast. The beetles have a powerful bite (Both males and females). This bone crushing bite will most likely prevent you from running away if it gets a hold of you. (They do not bleed, just cause slowness) The females can carry creatures while flying. The Males can actually carry koed creatures while walking to a better area. The creatures they can carry up to can be as big as a trike. I honestly do like the custom saddle idea, but I would say the female would be the one getting any of the offensive gear. I feel like the males horn would get in the way too much, thus making it difficult to weaponize. Male saddle could look like this. I think it would also be cute if the beetles had some little fuzz like this. Just a personal opinion. These are ideas me and some others have came up with. Original suggestion Wild: Of neutral temperament, with its almost 4 meters long by 2 meters high and 3 meters in diameter, this creature can be found in the redwoods biome. Its domestication will be passive looking for its larvae in the big redwoods tree of the map, (you will find them in different sizes like the kairuku) but be careful that in their larval state they secrete a substance that attracts ants using them as their guardians, and not only that, if there is an adult bastion nearby it will not hesitate to attack you because for the bastion the larvae are the most important thing to protect in the big tree, and let's say that nobody wants to fall on top of the redwood tree. if you manage to evade the adults, offer tree sap to the larvae, funca wood, cactus, honey or vegetable cake for better taming. once it is yours it will be the first creature as a baby that you can put on your shoulder immediately (only temporary because its growth will be slow) it will be an insect repellent, which will help you in caves and tame insects, when it reaches its pupal stage it will ask you to give it attention and leave it in a wide space because at this stage it will start to grow a lot and at this stage you will see the sexual diformism. also once again I tell you partner, the bastion is the creature with the longest maturation time to be an adult, surpassing the time it takes with a giganotosaurus. Tamed: When it finally becomes a beetle, it will be able to eat fruit and meat, as well as use it unmounted and mounted. You will be able to use it on land although somewhat slow but with an excellent weight reduction, water is its worst enemy, you already saw a non-aquatic beetle in the water? very clumsy and its wings get wet being impossible to fly, but in the air it will be one of the most maneuverable flyers since like the griffin it can fly backwards but in a better way, wherever you want your bastion to fly, there it will stay. General abilities: flapping: on the ground he will fling all small enemies around him by spreading his wings like the wyvern. walk like god: Both can climb and stick to any kind of surface. PASSIVES: -reduction to ballistic damage 40%(except tek). -30% weight reduction on everything -radiation resistance. weaknesses: - extra fire damage 30%. - vulnerable to net projectile - extra damage to tek turrets 20% male's abilities: -brutal strength: he will be able to charge and throw enemies with his powerful chitin horn. -canelo hits: with his basic hits he will slightly push enemies away like the diplodocus but with additional damage. -progressive damage: the longer it holds a creature, the more damage it will do. -Duel: between males there will be a fighting system with its horns, the strongest one will defeat the other one by charging it. (perfect for tournaments) male passive: 15% faster. the bastion is a beetle that can carry more than 100 times its own weight, although the female is stronger than the male. abilities of the female: -hard-biting: the female will have no horns but will have a pair of powerful jaws capable of taking small to medium-sized creatures (although she can also take large creatures with her jaws like a bulldozer she will be able to drag her victim as she grabs it. -Rock-hard: the female will have extra damage resistance against carnivores. female passives: 20% more energy. The bastion. Your mount will be manufactured in the fabricator, here gentlemen your bastion will become a war machine:

Giant Looper Moth: Neutral giant moth that flies fast. Spawns around volcano beach area. Taming To tame a looper moth you have to make sure it is night. Bring a moth lantern with you and place it down. When the looper moth gets close to the lantern sneak up to it and pet it. It will then either turn around and look at you or fly away and spore you. If it looks at you feed it tasty treats! If it gets startled and flies away, try again next time. You can tell if it will be startled if the wings are in flying position or relaxed. It will only eat sweet veggie cakes. Normal leg attack Spore bomb: Similar to lymantria spores, The spores effects depends on what it has eaten. It takes what it has eaten as ammunition. (It can be cycled through with reload). Narco Berry- Does tranq damage Azula Berry- Slows the target and brittles armor (Causing the target to take slightly increased damage) Tinto Berry- Overheats the enemy causing them to take small amount of damage. If the enemy stays in the spores for too long then it will engulfs the enemy in flames Ama Berry- Constantly stuns the target within. Crops- Does decent DoT (Has a bigger AoE than nearly all other spore) Sweet Veggie Cakes- Heals allies and reduces healing for enemies. (Has the biggest AoE) Silk Bola: Sticky string like substance that fixes enemy in place for a short amount of time similar to the effects of a bola. Can bola up to rex tier. Wing Slice: Its wings flaps with such force that it causes the air around it to turn into projectiles and hurt enemies. Barrel Roll: Has a barrel roll that can spur it forward giving it a burst of movement speed after. When using the barrel roll, its wings also let off some spores. Can go side to side. Night Vision. Strengths Having a light Source such as a torch or light pet around will cause it to be more bulky and have additional spore effects. Narco-Wider area of effect Azula Berry-Freezes and freeze immunity. Tinto Berry-It is immune to fire damage as well Ama Berry-Spore strikes down like lightning dealing additional 1 time damage Crops-Roulette(Takes an additional effect from the other berries) Cake-Gives resistance buffs to allies in the area for a time. Prevents healing entirely to any enemies in the area. Weaknesses Not that tanky It gets sad if it had light around but it disappears causing it to become slower Extremely vulnerable to being feared. Takes increased fire damage To breed the moth there must be light a special type of light around them called Moth Lantern. The moths will not only get buffed around this lantern, but they will start a mating ritual that takes several minutes to complete. Dossier Kona Giant Looper Moth (Scotorythra megalophylla) Is a enormously large moth found mainly fluttering gently along the coastline. of volcanically active regions. While it is not actively aggressive, when provoked Scotorythra megalophylla will use a variety of attacks to protect itself. Scotorythra megalophylla will use a variety of spore attack's that seem very similar to Lymatria (Lymantria dispar) attacks. Scotorythra megalophylla spores have a variety of affects including stunning, slowing, overheating, and tranquilizing. It also has the ability to capture enemies in a sticky silk string that stops them from moving until it disintegrates. The effect is very similar to that of a chain bola, though it cannot be removed. Although not a common companion, I have seen bigger tribes go into battle and come out alive. They seem to not only have the ability to heal, but also stop opponents healing as well. This moth is very attracted to light and can be tamed by using light to lure it close enough to be pet and then fed. This is best done using a special moth lantern which is also used in breeding these moths causing them to begin a special, and quite adorable, mating ritual. (Not the best at making dossiers sorry.)=
