Would be awesome if this had like a tracking ability, you give it either a specimen I'd or something crafted by a specific player, then it can lead you to where that player is roughly in the map.

Or tell it to find specific creature of specific level etc.

This is actually one of the abilities we have suggested for Desmodus draculae, which is one of the creatures in the voting for Fjordur. If you like it don't forget to vote ☺️

This concept has really got me hyped! I really hope this makes it into the game because I most definitely need this in my life. Although I have a few suggestions.

    1) If it's going to have the ability to latch onto flyers mid air and ground them I'd highly recommend that this creature take no fall damage otherwise I'd imagine it would die on impact with the ground also I think the latch should be an all terrain attack, similar to how deinonychus can latch onto the sides of larger creatures and pin down the smaller ones, the bat should be able to the same with the addition of the ability to do it mid air and it would just be the same button lastly I think it should be able to pin survivors in a similar manor to the raptor

    2) I actually respectfully disagree with whoever suggested it only deal bleed damage when latched onto something, seeing as Desmodus draculae's  modern day descendants (Desmodus rotundus AKA the common vampire bat) have been proven to have a sort of anticoagulant venom which prevents blood from clotting so that it will continue to poor out from the bite the bat inflicts, I'd say it wouldn't be OP for its primary attack to deal bleed damage, in fact I'd say it'd be kinda illogical if it didn't seeing as this an animal that lived off the blood of other creature (plus other creatures like thyla and carno got bleed damage from their respective TLC's so why not give it to a literal flying leech)

    3) I think the taming method should be similar to that of a blood stalker in that you can allow it to latch onto you and it'll take blood packs from your inventory if you have them, if not it'll drain you of your health which will still increase taming progress but also kill you

    4) I think the screech should stun and dismount instead of disorienting and deafening, I feel like that'd be way more useful in combat and in general, obviously the stun wouldn't be long but maybe like 3-5 seconds during which the player is dismounted and stunned, the tame doesn't respond to whistles and is stunned, if it's a flyer it would indeed fall the duration of that time, it'd essentially be similar to the void wyrm breath effect

    5) I'd also suggest a new ability option I call blood vision, it'd basically be like snow owl thermal vison, I think it'd work because the real creature and it's descendants do indeed have the ability to detect body heat, they used it to pinpoint veins and arteries closest to the surface of the skin

    6) I was also thinking maybe the ability to cloak itself in a similar fashion to the rockdrake, I think that would totally add to the stealthy aspect

    7) lastly I completely agree with the idea of it gaining a buff at night, maybe said buff would give it increased damage, increased damage resistance, increased stamina/health regen but on the flip side it would need a light debuff which could be inflicted by light pets, charge lanterns, flashlight attachments, plant z, basically the reaper kryptonite stuff would have a similar effect on this guy causing the exact opposite of what the night buff would do

but those are just a few suggestions, either way this creature has my vote and full support. This is definitely the one I want in game.

    1) Big yes on no fall damage, even if just when latched onto fliers. The bat would fall on them, so it makes sense

    2) I added the idea of it only inflicting bleeding when latched on my post, but it was suggested from someone else in another platform to me. I agree with you, it makes sense to always inflict bleeding. But I added it anyway as an idea to balance it if needed

    3) Agreed

    4) I prefer the disorientation and deafening/not listening to whistles, I think stuns and desmounting are already plenty in the game and people tend to really hate that... but if it were to be added with your suggestion, I personally wouldn't mind.

Everything else I also agree :) thanks for contributing!

This would be awesome! Bats are some really cool creatures, and the idea that I could ride a giant one is amazing. I love the flight path idea especially, considering bats are some of the most maneuverable creatures in the air due to their wings being so much like our hands.

Yeah that's exactly what I had in mind! If it does get in the game it should have different flying mechanics from what we already have when it comes to flyers, not only it makes sense when it comes to the creature but it would make it more unique. Faster turning, good at dodging...

We already have a bat but you know what? The more animals ahead of Charcharadontosaurus, the better!

Well, the bat we have isn't rideable or even able to be used as a shoulder pet... This one is pretty different. We also have many theropods, many birds... Of different species, like the two bats are.

But other than that, I like your way of thinking 😁 I hope we can keep the placement we are in right now!

And yet, there are people that do care.

It is a fantasy game, and yet most (but not all) creatures that are in the fossil record are somewhat in the same order of magnitude of size in Ark.  Yes, some Ark creatures are bigger than what we have evidence of, but rarely magnitudes bigger (with exceptions).

Many submissions have been locked for being fantasy ideas, but many seemingly have passed the test merely by having a name that is in the fossil record even though the idea is pure fantasy.

Since what is proposed here is 20 times the size of the real creature, then I think it is a valid question of whether or not it passes the real test.  It does by the moderators standards, so I guess that is all that really matters, but how far can the envelope be pushed?  Is the name really the only metric for whether an idea is real or fantasy?  We have seen the ideas for the tiniest of insects pass when proposed as being colossal kaiju.  What about if the same was done with microscopic creatures like water-bears?  We could ride around on saddled tardigrades.

I'm going to be brief since the size question has been discussed here a couple of times, but I think there is a difference between a mere size change and and completely making up a creature but giving them a real animal species name. The size for the bat isn't a big stretch when the design is pretty similar to the real counterpart and abilities make sense for the animal it is inspired on, in my opinion. They already gave you the Gasbags example that yeah, seems more fantasy than real although it shares the same genus of real life tardigrades, but if you want a better example of a real life creature that has a huge size difference in ark, look at the lymantria.

This looks absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for contributing to the submission🤩

  6. Someone gave me idea to only allow Desmodus to inflict bleeding if he latched onto the target (and not just with a normal bite attack), to make it more balanced. I really like it

Additionally, no need to have a separate ability to pin flyers down, when we latch onto a flying target and use the screech ability it should be enough to make the flyer fall down from the scare/being disoriented

Already added those details to my original post but wanted to update it here too :)

Come to think of it while we're at it we could probably make bat guano another fertilizer alternative

That would make sense. Owls are only available in Extinction, so anyone without that DLC can't use owl pellets, in the meanwhile if Desmodus were added with guano as fertilizer we could give that to Onycs as well and make it a more accessible fertilizer alternative

hooooooly hell that updated dossier looks amazing
I'm assuming the ability to hang upside down is strictly without a rider on and is only for "parking" your dino? if so, that's pretty cool

    Thank you so much!

About the ability to hang upside down - I think it should be possible while riding them, could be the way to increase stealth at night (to wait before ambushing a player or dino).

When not riding, it should also be the "go to sleep" animation that Megalosaurus and Shadowmanes have, they would fly up until they can reach a place to hang from (on open areas it wouldn't be possible to sleep). Maybe they'd have to sleep enough during the day to have the stamina regen bonus during the day or something?

  9. I told myself I wouldn't draw anything this time, but I couldn't resist...

I've edited my original post with the "dossier" I drew, illustrating the abilities I described there. I'm not great at drawing scary creatures, so don't see it as how I'd like the creature to look (I would like it to be like in the original dossier) but simply as an info sheet about its abilities :D

Ooh. Grappling onto other flyers mid flight sounds so dope. With the core concept of this bat there are so many cool directions it can go. And I like most of the ideas I see. I love the idea of a screech that suppresses dino abilities and maybe dosorients players. The day / night buff just makes sense. Definitely has the capillary of being a unique flyer!

Yes! And it's something we don't have yet too, I can imagine it being useful both in pvp and pve, imagine being able to bring a quetzal down with this bat - could be helpful when taming them solo. I will add this to my original post later so it stays on the first page 😊

I think the screech idea definitely has to be in, it's very iconic of a bat. I know if the bat is chosen, Wildcard can't really guarantee to put all our ideas in (if any) but the screech is very appropriate for this animal and could also be useful in pve and pvp, I think it would make total sense that it would prevent dinos from other tribes to answer to whistles for a little bit of time as their hearing would be affected by it

Huh, you know I think I'd be down for this as the next creature. We have zero rideable mammalian flyers (closest is the maewing which is both a glider and in a very weird mammalian classification as its a monotreme) and only two aerial fighters that are built for a straight up physical aerial brawl as opposed to being built for ranged combat first with physical altercations as an afterthought. Pre tek era ruining the cloak of darkness I was always a massive fan of doing night raids and always felt like the game needed a flying mount that thrived on nocturnal combat. I figure you make it especially beefy for a flyer but give it a light debuff like reapers and charge light to balance it out. That or perhaps a noise based debuff if you have a Rex or yuty roar nearby. That all being said between these and snow owls you'd have a pretty formidable pair of creatures to hit unaware players in the dark.

I agree with everything you said! Also, the idea of D. draculae being an aerial fighter plus the ability suggestion we talked about before with it being able to latch onto targets, I was wondering if it could be an idea that when trying to latch onto other flyers it would make them drop to the ground. I don't play PVP to know if this would be too OP though, I was thinking more as a way to bring a flyer down if you wanted to tame it :D

Hey we've maintained 6th place. Last time there was a remote for the top 10! Fingers crossed.

Yeah! Let's hope we keep it 🙏 it's weird that this time they didn't state in the rules when the voting ends. Also didn't say anything this time about a second vote for top 10, but I hope it happens since last time the results were different during the second vote. I created the dossier for a top 10 creature from the last vote actually (the Yi Qi), and I got an higher position on the second vote than the first. I didn't submit it again this time because I read that the devs made a prototype for all creatures on the top 10 to be ready to make the dossier of the winning one, that together with a tweet saying that there was a possibility for all creatures from the top 10 being added sooner or later, I am hoping that they don't forget the Yi Qi and add it on Ark 2 or something. This time I am rooting for this bat, didn't draw a dossier for it since there's already a pretty good one but I hope to still contribute to the submission with my ability ideas. All this to say that if we maintain top 10, there might be a possibility of the bat being added sooner or later, even if it doesn't win 👀

Hello all. Thank you for voting / supporting and adding ideas. I did not make this dossier nor the original. A friend of mine had throw this together, and I was unaware it was directed from a previous fan dossier. So shout out to the creator. I hope they see this and add to it! Let's try and add a unique new flyer to the game!

Hey! Thanks for clarifying that. I'd avise you to edit your first post with that information, just in case the creator sees the first post only and not your explanation just now. Either that or use the original dossier and post your ability ideas in text. :)

Also this is not intended to be "real life" size. The majority of arks creature are not to scale by any stretch of the imagination and the half of them are fantasy creatures. Wildcard takes creative liberties with animals usually for the better. In this case I want to fly a sick bat into battle. So if u feel the way I do vote!

Couldn't have said better, I gave many examples to the guy arguing about this of Ark creatures that don't "obey" to the animal's real size. It really doesn't matter and big yes to wanting to fly a giant bat into battle 😌

Man, i would love for it's color regions to be what i see from the doss image. As in most of the fur(?) being always this midnight black, and only really the face and highlight colors changing. Though if Ark could pull this off, i'm already hyped over a blood red/midnight black color combo

I like the idea of the base being always midnight black with only the highlights of the fur changing, I feel like a group of them with only a different highlight color each would look very aestethically pleasing flying through the sky 😌 although people love vibrant colors, so if it makes it to the game I believe the fur would be a color region. Maybe something like this  -

    Region 0: Fur

Region 1: Fur highlights (the red part in the drawing)
    Region 2: Wing membrane

    Region 3: Wing membrane highlights

    Region 4: Face and feet
Region 5: Eyes (not gonna happen, but I'd love for the eye glow to be a region)

Realistically eyes would be out and face and feet would be 2 separate regions I'd guess. Other option would be face and feet in one and leave the last region for the ears

yeah, i would say it's saddle could be available around the lvl 50 or 70 range but it also depends on just how good would it be, heck i think a fair base weight stat for it could be 300 this way you can get some mileage out of it without needing to worry about being too heavy for it

Yeah, I agree, that's more or less what I would imagine about the weight. Enough to travel without worrying too much about being heavy like you said, but not too much for Desmodus to be considered a tame to carry materials like the argy for example, if they go with the abilities we suggested so far it would already have enough utility to not need that on top of it

  16. On 11/10/2021 at 8:45 PM, Bulborb87 said:

im quite curious....IF say Desmodus has the ability to carry other creatures....what would be the max drag weight it would be allowed to lift?

cause i was thinking perhaps somewhere in the middle of a pteranodon and an argy, i don't think it would be strong enough to lift an anky off the ground, but maybe just strong enough for gigantopithecus and/or a parasaur

heck when would its saddle be unlocked at?

I agree with drag weight being in between a ptera and an argy, but leaning more towards the argy rather than an exact middle ground between those 2

About the saddle though... no idea 😅 I'd take it being on an higher level if it means it'll get some cool and useful abilities though!

U know suggesting 50 cm's does not mean it was actually that big everywhere it says max 30% larger and you just have to search it up

Im not saying that there is a limit but if you look at the sizes of things that wildcard made the biggest might be the giga if its really 30 meters idk but this compared to that is still a fantasy animal but lets go with 50 cms with 4 meters (there are even vultures near 3 meters)

This thing is allready 8 times bigger and it still cant lift shid up

Dude, please stop 😅 I don't want to flood the topic with this pointless discussion. You already gave your opinion, it's was just based on wrong data, still you have the right to still stand by what you said but it's only Wildcard who can decide if this would fit the Arks or not. But if you really wanna insist on being right here...

I provided YOU with sources about it being a 50cm wingspan. "You just have to search it up", I already did and what you said doesn't check out. I'm still giving you the benefit of the doubt but you haven't done anything to prove me wrong, send me actual sources for what you are saying if you are so sure of it. You said you read it on the wiki, but wiki says 50cm too. The wiki does say that they were 30% larger than the common vampire bat, but they either mean in size or body mass, not wingspan. And yes, those are different. (You can be sure that they don't mean wingspan though, because on the same article they state the wingspan as 50cm).

And no, real-world gigas weren't 30 meters. Longest specimen they found was around 12/13m from head to tail. So probably even less for actual height. Much less than 30m, that's for sure.

It really isn't a big stretch to make a subspecies of Desmodus draculae that is able to carry a surivivor and still be based on a real world animal. I already gave you tons of examples of this happening with other Ark creatures but you know what the most similar example? Just look at Lymantria. They created a subspecies for it for Ark to justify its bigger size, yet it's still considered a real world creature. You know what's the wingspan of an actual Lymantria? Between species, it can go from around 30 to 70mm. And even with the size they have on Ark, it's not very realistic that they could carry a survivor on their backs, the wings of Lepidoptera are very brittle. Yet here we are

Yes but much larger is like max 2x but this thing is massive and in the wiki it states that it has a 33% bigger wingspan than the common vampire bat witch is 18cms so it means that it must have had a 23,94 cm wingspan

I don't know where you saw that. Maybe you read 20 inches and not cm?

Wiki says 50cm, and so does these websites:

    http://www.sci-news.com/paleontology/desmodus-draculae-fossil-09898.html

    https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/tetrapod-zoology/what-did-giant-extinct-vampire-bats-eat/

And no rule says that "much larger" is at max 2x. Just look at the new dinos coming up, we have a Amargasaurus that shoots elemental spikes and a Sinomacrops with butterfly-like mimicry in its wing pattern. Dinos from the Ark are supposed to be genetically modified and there is no set limit to what those modifications can be
