ASE Ichthyornis carry weight and Fishing question

Question to these in the game who knows their stuff.

 

Do Ichthyornis carry weight influence how big a fish / quarry can it Retrieve?

 

For example, my Ichthy kills Medusae but leaves them there, and I suspect it fails to pick up some of the fish it kills while set on Hunt and Retrieve mode, especially if their inventory is cramped.
