The Vorombe Titian, more commonly known as the elephant bird, was the largest bird that has ever existed. Around 10 feet tall and nearly half a ton in weight, it was massive. It was native to Madagascar, an island whose very interesting fauna isn't very well represented in Ark. Unlike some species of flightless birds, both living and extinct, it preferred more vast and open shrub-like areas than dense jungle. Ark doesn't have many birds, and those that are flightless are either small or very limited in usefulness. Having the elephant bird as part of the scorched earth roster would be adding a fun, unique tame with an arsenal full of abilities.
Abilities:
-Standard peck; does damage, harvests berries and fiber, and picks up any nearby stones
-Kick that causes bleed, stuns smaller creatures, and collects items such as flint, many large ratites today use their talons as their main defense
-Slingshot ability: Large ground-dwelling birds often swallow stones to help grind up the food and leaf litter they eat. I think it would be an interesting idea to harness this ability for taming. Once mounted after placing rocks in the tames inventory the Vorombe will be able to spit out said stones at targets. Think of a mix between a dilos venom spit and a slingshot. Stones that hit the target will cause respectable amounts of torpor, making this a useful creature to have when taming at lower to mid levels. This can be manually aimed by the player in whatever direction you'd like and allows for
-Incubation: When fertilized eggs are placed near the Vorombe it will passively incubate them. The bird's puffy and course feathers give eggs the perfect temperature they need when incubating on Scorches hot days or freezing nights.
-Reduction weight on stones, flint, and metal
-High stamina and movement speed
Size: The Vorombe would be the largest avian on the Ark, nearly twice the size of the argent and dwarfing the common Scorched earth predators such as sabertooths, dire wolves, and terror birds. A height rivaling a megatherium when standing upright seems appropriate.
Taming: Can be tamed either passively or by looting nests of fertilized eggs. Wild Vorombes are not aggressive but will become hostile if attacked or if an egg is snatched. The preferred food for taming would be superior kibble and or regular kibble.
Eggs: Fitting its giant size, the elephant bird also laid some of the largest eggs of any creature. In-game these eggs have the same effects on wild carnivores that prime meat and mutton chops have, alongside being a tremendous source of nourishment for survivors while in the desert. Eggs not used directly for taming can be used as a replacement in crafting any form of kibble given their alluring taste to wild predators. Unfertilized eggs when eaten apply a hydration buff to the player which lasts a respectable amount of time.
Drops: Feathers(pelt), raw meat, raw prime meat, hide.
Other Notes: Saddle required, typically spawn in groups of 3 to 5, nests work in the same way as wyverns and deinonychus. Extra ideas are always welcome.
