Olorotitan - the sound based dinosaurus

The Olorotitan (meaning giant swan) - The sound based dinosaur/ better Parasaurus.

 

It's an Hadrosaurus like the Parasaurus. It could have sound based abilities with several different variants with a different crest, giving different sound abilities/ utilities.

I like the Idea of a sound based dinosaurus since we don't have one already and with sound/songs it's possible to give it several abilities and utilities.

It's basic attack could be either a headbutt which can cause a little bleed effect (given its axe shaped crest). And a tail attack what can push back smaller creatures.

It could have decent speed and be a good swimmer.

For the sound based abilities - 

So each crest have two sound abilities which can be diffuse (all around) or concentrated (in front of it). The trigger for each is to hold thé key for diffuse and one pouch to concentrated.

First crest: utility

First song: 

Diffuse: time for breeding and gestation/hatching time is faster

Concentrated: take care of a baby créature (for the imprint bonus etc)

Second song:

Diffuse: all plants around grow faster and need less care 

Concentrated : the targeted plants will give more harvestables

 

 

Second crest : Taming

First song:

Diffuse:  Echolocation. Scan the area to see wild dinos around and explorer notes/around (like desmodus, Wolf)

Concentrated : Can track a targeted dino.

Second song :

Diffuse: Dinos around are less likely to attack

Concentrated : Lullaby. Increase the targeted dino torpor.

 

Third Crest: Healer/Defense

To tame it it could be a new instrument, likely a flute. When you approach the Olorotitan it will look at you and emit a sound that you have to copy in order to begin the taming process. Once it's done, it will flee a little then you have to chase it and it will do another sound once your next to it again (may be a little more complex over time) and you'll have to make the same sound with the flute again until tamed.

To breed it, you have to be carefull. Since the incubation temperature will type of crest it will  settle the type of crest it will have on e hatched, so it will influence it abilities.

Time: Cretaceous

Diet: Herbivore

Temperament: Docile

Olorotitan, an ax-crested hadrosaur. It has low health, but extremely high damage. It is a glass cannon and its abilities orient around counter attacks. This creature can retaliate with its damage and any damage it received whether or not a rider is on it. This same counter attack can make it possible to send any negative status effect that it has right back to its attacker. It can also build up how much damage it can take before unleashing it in a flurry of fists at whatever the player wants it to divert the damage to. Useful for cleaning out large groups of creatures and structures. It can't damage metal and tek, but can damage turrets.

Ability 1: Counter Attack

Based on the name, the Olorotitan will go into a stance. When an Olorotitan takes damage, it can attack with its normal damage on top of any damage it was given to be sent back to any creature hit by this attack. It will have 2 options in how it wants to divert its damage.

  1. This ability can also remove any negative status effects it has and give the current timer and effects on what is hit by the ability.
  2. Damage is based on the amount of time when an enemy creature hits an Olorotitan and when the Olorotitan hits back. If almost immediately, maximum damage is done.
  3. Option 1: Ground Pound
    1. The Olorotitan will punch the ground multiple times to deal massive area of effect damage. This attack only pushes back small creatures.
  4. Option 2: Fist Fury
    1. The Olorotitan will unleash a flurry of punches so hard and fast that the air from each attack can cause damage to creatures 10 to 20 foundations away.

How it changes the ARK meta:

Combat: There has never been a creature that has counter attacking abilities and its attacks make it like an herbivorous shadowmane. Although creatures like the Kentrosaurus and Arthropleura can reflect damage passively when hit, the Olorotitan turns damage reflection into an active ability that is based on player skill. Timing is needed to use an Olorotitan at its fullest, so the use of quick time events can turn it into a deadly tame. When you do an attack against an enemy creature with an Olorotitan, the amount of time between your opponent lands an attack and when you attack determines how much extra damage an Olorotitan does against it. If it attacks just when an enemy creature hits it, its attacks are around maximum damage.
