Proposed thoughts on Duplication solution.

Suggestion

The Concerns related to Duplication.

  1. Infinite characters can be created with a unique character for every server we play on. This cannot be a good idea and is probably a root cause of character corruption issues.
  2. The transfer timer only occurs when a change in inventory occurs. The problem with this style of saving / uploading, is the items are still able to be uploaded after saving. So there is no true security in this respect. You must have some creative work around since it works for rollbacks, but clearly it's causing issues with the current method of duplication.
  3. Not fully certain, but the servers are plagued with an issue which results in your character staying connected for up to 2 minutes. I strongly believe this had something to do with the last duplication issue and could pose problems in in the current duplication method. This can be replicated by unplugging your internet and reconnecting in 30 seconds later. Your character will reconnect to the server you are on and you can continue playing as if nothing occurred.

The Resolutions!

  1. Global Character System - With this a player would only need a single character. Regardless of what server they play on they will have all their stats, engrams, and imprints. The character would no longer be saved per server, but would be saved how the Ark Data is able to save our player in the cloud we would need an alternative main server to hold all of our character data and character backups.
  2. No More Initial Transfer Timers - What I'd like is a Server Upload Inventory. This inventory would provide the same feel as the current Ark Data screen we currently use. The difference is you aren't uploading to the Ark Data, but rather moving your items and tames into a Server Inventory. These items will show in the Ark Data as ready to uploading in ~15 minutes. Essentially this system allows players to upload theirs items safely instantly with no network concerns.  They can even logout and hop onto the next server with the new Global Character system and download the items when the transfer occurs.
  3. New Save / Upload System - What occurs is this. The items will be uploaded to the Main Servers just like the Ark Data we have currently. However before uploading the items they must be deleted from the current server. The server will save at this point, then upload the items. Anything located in the servers inventory will be deleted when a save occurs. Although it shouldn't be needed it's always good to be safe and add a lock in the last 5 seconds before the saving/uploading occurs. This would prevent any changes in Server Inventory in the last 5 seconds to avoid any unforeseen concerns.
  4. Disconnect Player's Immediately on Failed Network Communication - Currently as mentioned in concerns, the player doesn't logout if a bad disconnect occurs. This issue also occurs when a player "Black Screen's" which occurs heavily on the Original Xbox One and occasional on the Xbox One X during server transfers or teleporting.  During this the player will be prompted with their character is already signed in. This should be resolved or removed which ever is the case. Your player should always disconnect if no network traffic can be created. This would also just overall make it better for players when they Black Screen they can load up the servers much quicker and not wait the 1-2 minute player already online timer.

Additional Features to Fortify the Changes.

  1. Too Many Items Uploaded To Ark Data - We can reduce network traffic on verification process, but acquiring an obelisk storage size on login. Now let's say we login to a server and we have 13 / 50 items uploaded. This means at any point we are allowed to upload 37 items to the terminal, obelisk, transmitter, drop, etc..  When the players pulls items out of the Ark Data this number will increment to allow more storage. This will safely allow us to properly square the total slots available without ping the servers every time we want to check if an item can be uploaded.
  2. Different Upload Types - We should be able to offer Upload Everything, Upload Equipment, Upload Inventory, Upload Hotbar, Upload Searched Items. These new 5 types will make for a more streamline upload process. And with the prior suggestions there wouldn't be any network traffic required.
  3. Remove Unable To Upload - Currently various items like tributes and element cause errors uploading. It's very tedious to locate these items in a large inventory making uploading a difficult process sometimes. It would be nice if instead we are offered a message prompting us that "You have items not eligible for upload they will be dropped on upload, would you like to continue?".
  4. Downloading Process  - When pulling items out just like the different upload types those same types would be offered in the download process. This would require flagging the items with a value of how they were uploaded so they can be download the same way. E.g. you uploaded your equipment so now you can download and force equip it faster. When download the items should delete from the Ark Data and when deleted then send over to the server for download to the player. I assume this is the current process and if so stick to it.
  5. More Advanced Upload/Download System - It would be nice to possibly set every item into a single slot up to 32,000 inventory available. This would allow us to reduce the slots needed for upload and bring back the large 300 slot transfers we were doing before, but now they go through the upload/download process not transfer process. Ideally you could keep adding items into an obelisk until that specific item reached 30,000 amount. Items which were not considered unique e.g. Spoil timers, durability, damage properties, etc would not follow this system and would upload into a new slot. It would also be nice if we could pull out a specific number of these items E.g. I uploaded 300 C4, but I wanted to pull out 10 for usage. Instead of current system where we need to slice up our Ark Data with stacks of 10.

What Benefits does this provide?

  • Instant Upload - Allows you to upload your items at any moment. No longer you have to wait 15 minutes to get off a server or secure your items. You also don't have to wait for individual upload process which is 2-5 seconds an item and if it fails can hold you locked up for up to 2 minutes.
  • Instant Upload - Allows you to continue uploading artifacts without having to wait 15 minutes to gather more. This might be considered "too good" of an ability and this may need nerfing, but in theory it would allow you to essentially place a transmitter and a artifact and so long as it respawns you can keep placing another into the Upload Queue.
  • Dossing Not a Problem - Although global characters won't resolve your inability to play on the server that's being dossed. It will resolve your inability to get off the server and back to another server. By having global characters you will no longer be stuck on a server you can simply logout and login to any server and start using your account. As a result it would probably result in less dossing as one of the reasons to doss a server is to prevent players from going back to their home servers.
  • Rollback Reduction? - Just like a possible reduction in dossing there would be also possibly be a reduction in rollbacks as this is used to corrupt characters or test duplication methods. If it was confirmed that a rollback couldn't do anything to characters or the duplication process players would have less incentive to perform this.
  • No Drops, Terminal, Transmitter, or Obelisk Access - Not accessible? Not a problem! As mentioned before just logout or kill your self so not to be caged and simply log in to the next server you want.

What Negatives does this provide?

  • Transfer Ability Removed - No longer can you transfer onto a spawn with a full kit, 300 slot of metal, or slot capped in loot/bps.
  • Bulk Uploading Removed - Since you cannot transfer you would be limited to current 50 slots which is only 10,000 ingots for example.
