Have the honey on your hot bar, when they begin to dig: run up to the hole and press the key with the honey. Gotta try and stay close so you don't miss them burrowing. When successful, you can see a little honey squirt out of the hole. It's pretty simple though. For longer tames, you can build a preserving bin nearby to keep the honey longer.
