Common Name: Archelon

Species: Archelon Gigantis

Time: Cretaceous

Diet: Omnivorous

Temperament: Passive

Wild:

Archelon is one of the most armored creatures in the sea. This behemoth can outsize Megalodon and even Plesiosaurus. While usually found near deep reefs and kelp forests, it can also disappear into the murky depths in search of it's favored prey: Cnidaria and young Tusoteuthis. When unable to find these, it usually resorts to eating the long strands of kelp that billow up from the ocean floor. While large and slow, Archelon is able to obtain incredible bursts of speed when in mortal danger. However, Archelon is almost never in mortal danger due to its unique defense capabilities. Archelon usually relies on its shear size and thick shell to ward off predators. If this does not work, it has another trick up it's Carapace. When under attack, Archelon can produce a foul tasting, oily substance from pores in it's skin. This distorts a predator's vision while Archelon gets away, along with leaving a repulsive taste that can last for days. The only natural predator of Archelon is the king of the seas, Mososaurus.

Known Information: While Archelon used to be a common sight in the oceans around the ARK, it is now deemed endangered by many of the ARK's scientists due to over hunting. Hunters usually hunt Archelon for it's large amounts of keratin within it's shell. The shell can also be used as an armored storage shed which can withstand grenades and C4s, but only in small quantities. While the meat of Archelon is practically inedible to humans due to it's foul taste an oil, the oil can be harvested to use in cooking recipes and chemistry, which in turn can make the flesh edible again. Archelon eggs are also highly valued, since they only come onto shore to lay eggs every month. They are extremely vulnerable to attack during this time. They quickly cover their eggs with sand, so the only way to retrieve them is to obtain them while it is laying or have a hungry, wild carnivore do your dirty work.

Domesticated:

Archelon, due to the sheer size, predator-repelling oil, and the ability to support a large base upon it's back, gives it the name used by many coastal and oceanic tribes: UWAT (Underwater Armored Transport). This beast of burden can carry incredible quantities and ward off most, but not all hungry predators with it's foul oil, however it is still recommended that it is protected by other sea creatures for maximum protection and due to it's slow speed. However, due to it's extensive diet on Cnidaria, it is immune to all forms of narcotic. The only way to domesticate this beast is a process, hated by many, of passive taming, or feeding it until it eventually shows affection toward the tamer. Archelon is most commonly found as the main storage animal in under sea convoys. many people have tried, but few have actually succeeded in cracking open the bases on Archelon and uncovering riches. A plan like this, Operation ShellBurster, was one of the main events leading to a war between two of the ARK's major tribes. Another, but not so common use of Archelon, is using it as a damage tank. Able to repel almost all firearms, but only a handful of explosives, it can be used as the ultimate siege weapon. The only major weakness is that Archelon cannot retract into it's shell, leaving major body parts like it's head vulnerable to firearms and explosives. While tamed animals might sound like the best option, Archelon's oil can cause even tamed animals to run away and even throw their riders off due to the foul taste of the oil.

Author's Notes:

This is a major revision from my original Archelon dossier, which was my first Fan-Made Dossier ever. While Archelon may sound OP, it is extremely hard to tame and comes with many benefits. It can also be taken down rather quickly if firepower is aimed toward it's small head. The only predator that is able to withstand Archelon's foul oil is the top predator, Mososaurus. So if facing an opposing Archelon, make sure you have a Mososaurus to make quick work of the giant. Just because Mososaur is the only predator able to withstand the oil, that doesn't mean extremely hungry ocean predators won't try to ignore the foul-tasting oil. This is one reason why it is recommended to have other predators protecting the Archelon, along with it's incredibly slow speed, but short-lived bursts of speed. Enjoy this Dossier revision!
