Common Name: Allodesmus Species: Allodesmus demerei (or turgidus, meaning “blubber”) Time: Miocene Diet: Piscivore Temperament: Friendly Wild I’ve seen my fair share of pinnipeds off the coast of my lovely home in Australia, but these guys are something else. If you imagine a cross between a sea lion and an elephant seal, the Allodesmus turgidus is probably the one creature you might have in mind. These blubbery sea-fairing mammals can be found all around the coasts of the ARK, though their favorite spots are where Kairuku like to hunt, their favorite prey. The males are significantly larger than the females and have an inflatable snout that signifies their leader status. And with these snouts they can vocalize loudly to rally other members of their species. They are well adapted to the chilling waters of the north and deep below the sea, as their bodies are full of insulating blubber. If harvested properly, it can be used as a fuel source or can even be padded into your armor for extra insulation, for a brief period. And the blubber can be added to an inflatable device to help you ascend to the surface quickly in dire situations. Though they have ravenous appetites, they are quite playful around Survivors, and will sometimes pick up dropped items that anyone might have dropped in the sea and bounce it back at them. I’ve also heard reports of Allodesmus saving lost souls at sea from drowning or being attacked by underwater predators and will bring them back to the shoreline or boat. Talk about being a natural lifeguard! Though one should be aware of trying to escape the land predators as the Allodesmus may bring you right back to them unknowingly. Domesticated Taming an Allodesmus is an interesting task, as you must take advantage of their playful behavior. You’ll need to pass a feeder ball between you and the Allodesmus over and over to tame it successfully, almost like a game of hot potato. As arduous as it seems, it’s the only way I’ve seen it done. Though it’s truly worth the effort as the Allodesmus is a great insulator for freezing temperatures as you dive down into the depths of the ocean, and they are incredibly fast for their size. They can make tight turns underwater with such grace one would think they were dancing! They also possess a sonar that can detect lost items left behind in the ocean and can even pick up the bags for you, so you don’t have to dismount. From what I’ve seen tribes use them for, you could say these mammals are the wolves of the sea. Details PVE Males are considerably larger than females, with a more pronounced inflatable “trunk” and furrier collar! Males lead a pack of lower-level females and rarely males! Males can rally other creatures with its roar that includes a pack buff! Blubber can be used as fuel or attachable insulation for armor (used as an ammo slot, wears down over time). Recommended for ice caverns or deep ocean exploration! Blubber can also be used to craft inflatable vests that can help you ascend quickly to the surface! Will save Survivors that are drowning or lost at sea and bring them to shore or closest raft (drawback is that they will do this even if you are fleeing from predators on shore) Tamed Allodesmus can grab Survivors and small underwater creatures with its mouth, like Mantas and fish! Much slower on land, but very fast in the water, can do tight turns and barrel-rolls! Can receive a speed boost if following the wake of another creature! Riding an Allodesmus provides insulation to Survivors! Can harvest Silica Pearls and Black Pearls and more Organic Polymer from creatures. Also has weight reduction for said resources. Can detect and pick up lost bags in the ocean with sonar! PVP Males are usually tougher for undersea battles! Males can rally other creatures with its roar that includes a pack buff! Females are excellent scouts! Provides a pack bonus when in groups! Great for hit-and-run tactics! Taming Craft a Feeder Ball. Insert food item (Raw meat or fish meat, kibble, organic polymer?) Find an Allodesmus. Drop the Feeder Ball and it will pick it up and bounce it back to you. Play a game of hot potato until it is fully tamed! Males provide a more challenging game, so be sure to practice with the females! Feeder Ball can also be used for certain passive tames such as Mesopithicus, Gigantopithicus, Diploducus, etc. Allodesmus will be similar to how wolves hunt, but in the ocean. The males, being sexually dimorphic in size and with inflatable snouts, can have an alpha status with a group of Allodesmus and give an attack/defense buff with a bellow. Only higher level males can be the leader of a group of lower level Allodesmus and are more difficult to tame. Once killed and harvested for their blubber, the resource can be used for either fuel or attachable insulation for armor (this won’t take over the skin slot but be similar to an ammo slot). The blubber has a spoil timer though, and is only recommended for long excursions in the deep ocean or ice caves. The blubber can also be used for crafting an inflatable vest that will allow you to ascend to the surface quickly if the need arises! Wild Allodesmus won’t attack Survivors unless provoked, though if they see a Survivor actively drowning or being attacked by sea life, they will drag them to the surface and then to the closest shore or boat. As good as this may be, they will still do this even if a Survivor is trying to escape from a land predator into the water. Tamed ones however can grab Survivors and smaller creatures in the water, especially Mantas and other fish! They are semi-aquatic, but are mainly found in the water unless they are hunting Kairuku on land, to which they are somewhat slower, but fast enough to catch the flightless birds. Allodesmus are passively tamed, and you’ll need a new craftable item called the feeder ball to tame them. This item is equipped with a food item inside and can be tossed at Dinos for them to play with. In the case of Allodesmus, you’ll either need to insert raw fish or kibble into the ball and play a mini game of hot potato with it. Males are more competitive and will put up more of a challenge for Survivors. Once tamed however, they can be given a saddle and can be used as extra insulation for diving into the depths. They also have a weight reduction for silica pearls, black pearls, and organic polymer, and will have decent carry weight. They can also pick up dropped items that Survivors have left behind while riding so they don’t have to be dismounted. What’s more is that the males can provide a pack buff to nearby allies with its roar/bellow! And they can receive a speed buff from following the wake of another creature! If anyone has any other thoughts, feel free to comment below! giant seal Hadrokirus, ARK’S STEAMPOWERED MEGA SEAL
Compystuff posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
Species: Hadrokirus Hydrostus Time: Late Miocene Diet: Carnivore/Piscivore Temperament: Relaxed/Predatory Any art or dossiers are welcomed. Hadrokirus should be a mid to late game tame. I think I’d be cool for it to spawn in a variety of locations. The Center is a watery map that has a lot of beach and artic places, feels like it just fits a seal. WILD Hearing barking or bellowing out on the glaciers or beaches of The Center is not uncommon, you’re around a pod of Hadrokirus. These giant seals rule the beaches and the coasts of the arctic. They can be seen in pods of 1 male and 4 females with babies scattered about. They are lumbering, a sight to behold with the males being the largest of the pod. They spend their time on land lounging, sleeping, and playing, even picking the player up before dropping them. But Hadrokirus must eat a lot to sustain their body fat. So, when entering the water, Hadrokirus becomes a super predator, attacking and eating anything within there, including humans. When encountering a pod of hunting Hadrokirus, one will go to the surface and let out a bellow that can be heard for miles, aggroing all Hadrokirus in the pod. They’ll rip you apart and pick you up (not playfully) and drown you. If the prey puts up more of a fight, the Hadrokirus will use its STEAM BREATH that melts flesh and boils whatever it’s attacking. TAMING Hadrokirus are docile on land but aggressive in water. One might think to feed it on land, but Hadrokirus isn’t hungry when on land and way too aggressive to hand feed in water. Tranqs don’t work as its blubber is too tough, however, you can use its playful and predatory behavior against it. Putting tamed Kairuku on passive flee will excite Hadrokirus as they love the chase and taste of Kairuku. Chasing, attacking and eating the Kairuku will slowly fill its taming, so you’ll need a lot of penguins. The longer the Kairuku lasts, the more taming you’ll get, so high heath Kairuku are essential. THE STEAM MACHINE Hadrokirus utilizes steam in its hunting and intimidation. Once tamed, the STEAM BREATH is a devastating weapon while also offering utility. Steam uses water, Hadrokirus must drink water to fill its bar, or you can manually give it water through water skins, jars, and canteens. The steam does a lot of damage, burning everything in front of it, and the steam can even damage the rider (if the saddle protects the player like the Andrewsarchus or Magmasaur, you’ll be fine). The steam will linger for 8 seconds and will do even more damage underwater, this takes a lot of water and stamina. STEAM ENGINE SADDLE Hadrokirus has a special saddle that acts as a fabricator but is much more expensive. Those willing to spend will be granted with a fully working steam engine that can convert water into power. Having the Hadrokirus saddle on and near electronics will power them like a generator. The water drains much slower than a generator and has much greater range. It even protects the player from the cold but not the heat. CORPSE DEBUFF When a Hadrokirus dies its body take days to weeks to decompose, and far away carnivores will sense it and make their way towards it. This might make a Hadrokirus corpse look like a hazard, but when a carnivore feeds, due to the fat, blubber, and nutrient rich meat, the carnivore will become full and turn neutral. This is Hadrokirus’ satisfaction debuff. To Rex, to Spino, to Allo, to Raptor, almost every wild carnivore will become neutral and not attack you (you can use this to trap\tame carnivores easier). If a human consumes the meat, they will gain increased health regen, weight, and fortitude. UTILITY AND COMBAT Hadrokirus are experts in digesting fish and Kairuku. Able to consume meat, bones, and skin while deposing of unwanted waste, like black pearls and blueprints. Kairuku = a small amount of black pearls. Fish = a chance of getting blueprints. Hadrokirus have decent carry weight and water speed, but horrible land speed. They are tough with thick blubber to resist bullets and bites, immune to any ice attack, and cannot be frozen. Their blubber gives insulation to everything in the area. Hadrokirus gain an excitement buff from killing penguins. The buff increases its organic polymer penguin harvesting, land speed, damage, and stamina by 30% while increasing the STEAM BREATH damage by 10%. Buff lasts for 2 minutes. ABILITIES · First button’s a basic bite that does good damage and does great damage to Kairuku. Holding the button down will pick up the target with a drag weight of 125 and lower (the titans have weirdly low drag weights so just ignore stuff like that). · Second button’s STEAM BREATH with high damage that hits through mounts and lingers, dealing more damage underwater. Any creature that takes no or reduced damage from fire takes no damage from this. · Third button’s a loud bellow that stuns small creatures and humans for 5 seconds. Larger creatures get their attack speed cut in half. It’s even louder and travels farther in the water. It’s on a 5-minute cool down but in between, Hadrokirus does an emote seal clap, *arf arf’s* and all. · Jump button’s a belly flop, dealing huge damage and knock back. VOTE FOR THE MEGA SEAL The sight of a pod of giant seals swimming across your starter base would be amazing, especially with the baby seals around. Here are some extra ideas I had but I’m unsure about and please give suggestions. · Being around the STEAM saddle will boost the speed of mechanical saddle users like Magmasaur, Andrewsarchus, Roll rat, and maybe Tek saddles. · The saddle can STEAM and boil food like an industrial cooker. -

APPERIENCE Hadrokirus is a large seal with big teeth, they can come in colors of brown, tan, white, and black. Larger than Dire Bear, shorter than a mammoth, males have a fur mane. WILD Hadrokirus can be seen in packs of 5 to 10. While on land. Hadrokirus is slow and lumbering and is only aggressive to Kairuku. While in the water, it is a super predator attacking almost anything. When it aggros to you, it will go to the surface of the water and let out a loud bellow that can be heard for miles and attack you. Hadrokirus also have a pickup attack On land they will only use this to play with you but in water they drown creatures. I think the pickup limit should be Equus and lower. TAMED Taming Hadrokirus is a little difficult to tame because it's thick blubber stop any and all tranq arrows or darts but it's to wild to be hand fed. So the only way to tame Hadrokirus is to take it to warmer climate. While on a beach or forest, Hadrokirus will passively lose torpor do to its blubber making it over heat. At 50% torpor Hadrokirus blubber will be retraced allowing you to hit it with tranq arrows and darts. But don't underestimate Hadrokirus. It's roar can stun you and it is fast thanks to it's retraced blubber. Once tamed, Hadrokirus is an amazing mount. It's fast in the water and has a fur saddle perfect for keeping you alive when traveling. They are very strong with an armor piercing attack and a tail attack that does ok damage. It can slow small creatures and with thick blubber to resist bullets and bites, immune to any ice attack, and cannot be frozen. Hadrokirus will get rage form killing Kairuku and gather more organic polymer. CORPSE DEBUFF When a Hadrokirus dies its body take days to weeks to decompose and far away carnivores will sense it and make there way towards it. This might make a Hadrokirus corpse look like a hazard but when a carnivore feeds, do to the fat, blubber, and nutrient rich meat the carnivore will become full and turn neutral. This is Hadrokirus satisfaction debuff, to rex to spino to allo to raptor almost every carnivore will become neutral and not attack you (you can use this to trap\tame carnivores easer). If a human consumes the meat they will gain increased heath regen, weight, and fortitude. IN SHORT I think Hadrokirus would be a great fit and it needs more attention. And if this dossier DOES NOT CONVINCE YOU, THIS WILL!-
