Brontoscorpio Vexator - the venomous disruptor
SmileShape posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
Introducing Brontoscorpio Vexator, the venomous disruptor Tags: scorpion, venom, debuffer, Valguero Art by Knox and SmileShape Common Name: Brontoscorpio Species: Brontoscorpio vexator Time: Late Sylurian Diet: Insectivore Temperament: Disruptive Wild: “Looking back at my past notes, I can’t believe I used to think that Pulmonoscorpius was the largest scorpion around. Brontoscorpio vexator is not only much bigger than its relatives I’ve met on other Arks, it’s also the most dangerous. Instead of tranquilizing or paralyzing venom, this creature seems to inject a toxin that simply negates most advantages and disables special abilities of the target. I’ve never seen anything like that…” Domesticated: “Earning the trust of one of those beasts is no easy feat, but it’s worth the trouble. Brontoscorpio is very precise at dissecting carcasses to collect big amounts of hide or keratin out of them. These large scorpions also need to molt their armor from time to time. This gives bold survivors a chance to harvest it and get chitin or even organic polymer out of it!” Introduction: Greetings, survivors! I introduce to you the arthropod supreme; the Brontoscorpio! The foundational ideas and selling points for this scorpion include: Role as a disruptive debuffer Specialized Collector of resources from corpses Passive income of resources in form of armor shedding Anti air/ranged support with the Tek saddle Wild: You’ll find these scorpions roaming around the Emerald Forest and Unknown regions of Valguero. They seem to be rather calm most of the time, but they’ll rush in to “third party” the very moment any fight breaks out around them, be it wild creatures fighting or survivors having some minor disagreements, Brontoscorpio will make sure this battle is miserable for all other parties involved. Suggested stats at lvl 1 for Adult and Elder (you’ll learn about this later on) Health: 650/780 Stamina: 350/420 Oxygen: 250/300 Food: 1800/2160 Weight: 400/480 Base Damage: 40/48 Torpor: 1200 Movement speed: on land comparable to Deinosuchus, swimming speed is comparable to that of a Plesiosaur Size comparison of both adult and elder Brontoscorpio next to average survivor, Sabertooth, Carno and Rex Base of the chart by Vaporvenator Taming Process: In order to tame yourself a brontoscorpio, you’ll have to use its behavior against it. Firstly, you’ll need to prepare a bunch of large bear traps and electrical prods. Next, you have to pretend to engage in combat by punching or attacking a tamed creature nearby the scorpion, that’s bound to get its attention. Once you notice it heading towards the fight, try to make sure it’s going after you and lead it into the bear trap. When it’s trapped hit it with a prod (it does 10x torpor to wild brontoscorpio). Repeat the process until it’s knocked out. When knocked out, feed it its preferred food. Going from best to worst: Superior Kibble -> chitin/keratin -> spoiled meat -> raw meat Saddles: Brontoscorpio has two saddle options: primitive (aka the bone armor saddle) and tek saddle, the latter being equipable only by elders of this species. Primitive saddle features parts of a few other creatures found on the arks and uses them for extra protection. For example, Dunkleosteus skull makes for a fierce looking helmet for any brontoscorpio. Unlocked at level 66 Base armor: 50.0 Crafting requirements: 200 hide 320 chitin/keratin 270 fiber 25 metal ingots Tek Saddle on the other hand trades off some of the defenses for a small arsenal to aid in ranged combat. Unlocked by beating the Guardians of valguero on at least beta difficulty Base armor 20.0 Base damage 100% (can get higher with better bps, up to 350%) Crafting requirements: 400 polymer 1500 metal ingots 500 crystal 50 element 120 black pearls Tamed: Passive Abilities: Null Venom: Broscorps venom negates all immunities and blocks special abilities of those affected (for example, Magmasaur losing immunity to fire, Wyverns can’t use their breath attacks etc.). This lasts for about 6 seconds. Steady Legs: This scorpion’s legs have good grip and coordination giving Broscorp great resistance to knockback, ability to scale walls as well as omni-directional movement (<-- This includes sprinting in all directions!) Adaptive Carapace: This creature's tough exoskeleton can adapt on the fly to its surroundings, granting it immunity to hazards like sandstorms or radiation as well as most venoms and toxic gasses. Dissection: Brontoscropio collects very little meat from corpses, but it harvests more of other resources found in carcasses like hide, chitin or keratin. Brawler’s Thrill: When engaged in a fight against at least 5 opponents (nearby 5 enemy players/creatures or have 5 wild creatures aggroed onto it) Brontoscorpio will get a 30% damage resistance and 20% increased damage and attack speed. This effect lasts for as long as the number of opponents doesn’t drop below 5. Armor Shedding: not unLike some real life arthropods, Brontoscorpio has to molt their old skin in order to be able to keep growing. Every time it does, it’ll leave behind a husk that can be harvested for chitin, bio toxin and organic polymer. After its fifth shedding, the scorpion will become an elder. Elders are 50% larger than regular adults and have all their stats, except for speed and torpor, increased by 20%. These specimens are also the only ones that can be mounted with the Tek saddle. Actions: Primary Attack (, , ): Basic attack dealing damage and inflicting Null Venom debuff. Wall Climbing (, , ): Toggle wall climbing. (Can enter boss arenas, but the climbing is turned off while in an arena). Works both on land and in water. Switcheroo Sting (Click C, , ): Slow hitting sting attack that negates all buffs and turns off effects of all traits of the target for about 30s and gives Brontoscorpio increased health regen, movement and attack speed for 45s. This attack can only hit one target and goes on cooldown for 300 seconds once it succeeds. Taunt (Click X): Cosmetic taunt. Toggle Tek Saddle (Click Ctrl): Toggles Tek saddle abilities on/off. (only when equipped with said saddle) Actions when Tek Saddle is in use: Tek Minigun (, , ): Mounted on the Broscorps tail, the experimental tek minigun is a powerful yet highly unstable weapon. Element infused, what seems to be, instant hit lasers with such rapid fire is a truly destructive force. Using this weapon is very costly as it burns through element shards rather quickly and can just as easily overheat, rendering the minigun useless while it’s cooling off. Shielded Aiming (, , ): When aiming, two miniature Tek forcefields will activate on the scorpion's claws, blocking incoming damage from the front. While this might sound very powerful, the force fields can quite easily overheat under pressure from enemy fire. While aiming, Brontoscorpio is focusing on its target, therefore exposing itself to attacks from close range. (receives 20% more melee damage while aiming) Rocket Barrage (Click C, , ): Two rocket launchers mounted on scorpion's claws are not as powerful as the minigun in the long run, due to long cooldown, but they still pack a punch. Upon activation you’ll have to aim at the target and wait a moment for the aiming system to lock onto it. Once it's locked, activate again to launch a dual homing missile barrage at the opponent. Utility & Scenarios: PvE: Brontoscorpio, in Pve scenario, can help survivors stock up on many useful resources needed since the very beginning of the game like hide or chitin, while also supplying them with organic polymer and biotoxin needed in late game. Immunity to hazards, ability to scale walls and omnidirectional movement can also make it a nice mount for traveling around areas where other creatures might struggle. PvP: In pvp, the ability to temporarily turn off opponents immunities or just steal their buffs could sometimes prove very beneficial and the tek saddle could prove useful during base defense, when there are many airborne threats on enemy side or you simply want to help out your tribemates with great firepower from a safe distance. Conclusion: Thank you for taking your time to read my creature concept. Hope you liked it. Feedback is appreciated If you made it this far, enjoy some propagan-... I mean promotional stuff! -
Dossier: The Glyptodon of the Arks are a close representation of their prehistoric counterpart although they seem to have adapted the size of modern day Armadillos. With the ability to curl up into a near impenetrable ball when startled the sheer force of this survival reaction shoots them a solid 5 feet into the air before they hit the ground rolling to safety! And if you think you could cut your way through these little fellas, THINK AGAIN!!! Their outer shell will dull even the sharpest of weaponry! Although, they seem quite shaken by blunt force hits! I've even seen survivors sneak up on these rodents in full ghillie then remove their helmets to send them into their ball mode and then use a club to smack them into nearby rocks and structures to knock them out! Info: Glyptodon is omnivorous and will feed on anything once knocked out and even tamed! They are skittish and will spook at the first sign of danger but if all else fails and they must attack be warry as they do carry the ever deadly mega rabies! This tame has great potential to bringing more use to the use of arks shields and even more use to using the MIGHTY CLUB!!! Tamed: Once you've tamed the Glyptodon they use their insane outer shell to the best of their abilities! Much like a shoulder pet they can join your adventures but prefer to ride rolled up in a shoulder sling pouch, napping the day away until their needed! Just pull them out the pouch and they can be used to throw at the enemies dazing them for a short time. Or you could simply roll them striking the feet of the opponent and crippling their movement. although, the Glyptodon wont attack and will quickly scurry back to their pouch to sleep of the torpor they gain from the interaction. But fear not! As if you are on the receiving end of the Glyptodon you can use a shield to block them causing severe torpidity! Oooorrr just try and slap it back at their owner with a wooden club? And with their rolling expertise do I hear the idea of a bowling Ally anyone???? When not riding along with the survivor the Glyptodon can be passively put to use at the base producing chitin through their scute that can be filed down periodically much like the Archelon's Algae.
