land and water mount Pontolis - The early water mount
helenabee posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
The Pontolis is an extinct pinniped which can be found in groups, basking on the large beaches, or swimming around the shallows. Males of the species are larger and very territorial, they will fight each other in the wild. Females are smaller, have a different pattern, no tusks, and cannot be ridden. Basically these guys would be an early game water mount. Not terribly strong, you don't really want to be fighting with these guys, but great for getting around reasonably safely. If something big attacks then you can buff your defence and stun them to flee. They can be kept on land which makes keeping them safe easier in the early game. Mid/late game their use is more for their agility and speed than strength, and the fact that you can shoot while riding them. In the Wild Can be found on the large beaches along the south and west of Ragnarok, basking in large groups. The males are larger and have two pairs of tusks. The strongest male will have an 'alpha' glow and will fight all other wild males in the area. When attacked males will fight back. Females are smaller and will flee when attacked. They can also be found swimming in the shallows. Tamed Only males can be ridden. Form a pack (harem). A pack can only have one male, who will have the 'alpha' glow, and up to 6 females. Each additional female gives a small boost to all the pack's defence. They are very clumsy on land, but extremely quick and agile in the water, able to swim in all directions similar to how a tapejara can fly. Male's melee attack is a slash that causes bleed. Female's melee attack is a headbutt which stuns creatures and causes them to lose aggro (builds stun on large creatures like a yuty's courage roar) allowing you to flee. Males can 'bellow' to buff the pack's defence and speed. Can shoot from the creatures back. Taming Method You need to fight them to reduce their hp to <10%, at which point they can be tamed by feeding similarly to a Moschops. You can only tame the alpha male when there are no other males in the area. Abilities Left Click - bite (inflicts bleed) Right Click - bellow (buffs defence and speed of pack) Pontolis has very low oxygen drain, allowing it to stay underwater for long periods. Player character oxygen drain is greatly reduced while riding the Pontolis. Appearance Similar to a modern day walrus, but much bigger and males have two pairs of tusks. Males are larger, covered in scars and have different markings. Generally they are a mixture of browns, greys and dark blues.-

Creature: Pontolis magnus Time: Miocene to Pliocene Diet: Piscivore Temperament: Female are docile and curious, males are territorial and aggressive when the survivor gets too close Why I picked this creature? Ark doesn’t have anything like it mainly. We haven’t gotten a new water creature in some time, and in terms of mammals I feel we are lacking in that department in our oceans. Wild Pontolis can be found in colder regions, like the snow area on the Island. It hunts for fish and shellfish which make up the bulk of its diet. Like modern day walrus, they have a thick blubber layer to help keep them warm and protect them from other creatures. Pontolis are social, usually being found in groups of 3-5 individuals with one male as the leader of the group. He protects his territory and females, often becoming aggressive if other creatures get too close. The females, however, tend to be more docile and sometimes even curious. Males are larger with thicker necks and longer tusks. Domesticated/Utility Pontolis makes an excellent diving companion for multiple reasons. First, it’s saddle acts as a scuba tank, providing continuous oxygen to the survivor while mounted. This tank holds more air than a standard diving tank, however, once it runs out the survivor must return to the surface for the tank to recharge. The tank’s maximum oxygen increases as the saddle rank increases, with ascendant saddles holding the most oxygen. Pontolis also benefit from a pack bonus provided there is one male in the pack. Multiple males cannot be mixed in a pack for this bonus to activate, but the number of females doesn’t matter. Your Pontolis will put those sharp tusks to work. When mounted the survivor can charge up a bite attack, once released Pontolis will give a nasty bite dealing high damage to whatever unfortunate creature comes into contact with those tusks. This attack can also be used on carcasses for large amounts of resources. The longer the bite is charged, the more stamina it drains. Taming Taming Pontolis depends on the gender and requires 2 things, a hefty amount of tasty fish and a toy! Males are aggressive and will not hesitate to attack the survivor. Taming them requires you to first remove him from his females, and then apply enough damage to render him passive. Once passive, he will allow you to feed and play with him. At random intervals, he will require you to either play, pet, or feed him. This gradually fills a trust meter, and once filled you now have a new friend! For females, you must do the same in singling one out from the group, however you do not need to fight her. They are naturally curious, and are more eager to get to know you. Just make sure she is far enough away from her fellow females, and the territorial male! After taming, you can continue to play with your Pontolis whenever you’d like, and doing so has a benefit! You can continue to grow trust with your Pontolis through play and treats, and at maximum trust you gain a permanent friendship buff when riding, basically like an imprint! This buff only applies to the Pontolis you are riding, and is not passed on to any other Pontolis in the group. Color Areas Pontolis males have 4 color areas. -The body -The underside -The neck -Spots Females have 3 color areas -The body -The underside -Spots Art done by me Links https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontolis https://prehistoric-fauna.com/Pontolis-magnus

drawings made by me and my sister. Species - Valenictus imperialensis Period - Pliocene Diet - Omnivorous Temperament - Territorial Location - more common on Icy shores, but rarely spawn in warm beach climates. Valenictus is related to the modern-day walrus, but lacked all teeth both in the lower and upper jaw, except for the two tusks. Due to this and their tusks getting in the way, Valenictus along with modern day walrus have a hard time catching and eating fish, thus they resort to eating various sea plants but Most importantly Mollusks!! Valenictus would be able to walk on land at a slow pace, but really be at home in the water. I Intend for Valenictus to be an excellent harvester of silica pearls, but with the caveat of them eating some pearls along the way. Due to mollusk meat nor seaweed not being in the game. Passive - Thick blubber Valenictus takes a 40% damage reduction from all targets due to its thick fatty hide, along with this the rider of Valenictus gets a hypothermic insulation buff. Saddle - Beer/grog keg I've looked at the roster of creatures in ark and see many saddles that are dual used as crafting stations, so I thought I would include my creature to have a BEER KEG saddle. And this is where the first "ability" comes in, GROG - a special high potency beer that is made from tree sap and citronal, this beer gives a 60% defensive buff along with a 20% DMG buff and a 50% hypothermic insulation (normal beer is 40% across the board, grog is more resistance based) the saddle can also make normal beer at a faster rate than a normal keg. I would like grog to be able to be drank by either Valenictus itself or all creatures, getting the buff in the process. Standard attacks - left click should be a tusk swipe that can gather thatch and silica pears with great quality. Right click would be a body slam that flattens anything in its path. Special abilities - Taunt - intimidate Taunt - Valenictus bellows, taunting all hostiles in the area to attack Valenictus and ignore other allies tames for a period of time. Intimidate - rearing up displaying its tusks, Valenictus intermediates attackers, causing them to loos agro on the walrus itself. (this does not fear like yuti just causing enemies to lose agro on the valenictus) Behavior - Wild and tamed Valenictus Males DO NOT like each other, if two males are in close proximity to each other they will square up and the male who loses the boasting match with be forced to wander out of range of the stronger male. Male vs Female - male Valenictus make Grog and beer in there saddle and have longer tusks and are generally bigger than females Female Valenictus being smaller make a spiked shot that works like a powerful narcotic and makes the sleeping target not lose taming efficiency when hit along with a dmg resistance. POTENTIAL ABILITIES - I'll post you guy's ideas here.
