  1. Gorgonopsids, named after the Gorgon of Greek myth, were a group of predatory stem-mammals that lived before the dinosaurs during the Permian period. Related to Purlovia, they were the top predators of their time. Also, if you did not know. This is the ONLY creature ARK has confirmed to appear that never did. Back in ARK’s early days there was a list of all the creatures they planned to add on Steam. All of the creatures on that list were added eventually, with the exception of the Gorgonopsid. The gorgonopsid used to share this title of “Forgotten Creature” with the Giant Crab, but Karkinos has been added in Aberration. In-game Name: Gorgonopsid Dossier Statistics - Species: Inostrancevia ______________ Time: Late Permian Diet: Carnivore Temperament: Aggressive It is a mid-tier tame, being a decently powerful mount similar in scale to Thylacoleo. However, the gorgonopsid also has a very specific but incredibly useful ability. This gorgonopsid would have the strongest sense of smell on the ARK, able to use its nose for a variety of different uses. Ability 1: Tracking By holding the sniffing ability, a crosshair will appear on the rider’s screen. When released onto a creature in sight, regardless of what it is, where it is, or who it belongs to, the Gorgonopsid will be able to tell its general direction, allowing the rider to track this creature across the map, regardless of its location. This can act as a more organic form of the transponder, as you could give the gorgonopsid the scent of your flyer before you travel. In the event you die but your flyer lives and buzzed off somewhere unknown, you can take out your gorgonopsid to find it. This also has utility in PvP, since this ability can identify and track enemies from a far distance without their knowledge, for the most part. Players will be completely unaware of their tames being tracked, but players will be notified if a gorgonopsid is specifically tracking their character. Another counter is that gorgonopsids lose the scent if the creature they’re tracking is put into a cryopod. Gorgonopsids will remember their last scent if they themselves are put in cryopods, however. Ability 2: High-Level Tame Finding While there are creatures like the glow pets that have the ability to detect high level creatures in the area, gorgonopsids have a similar ability that is more direct. When using this ability, the gorgonopsid will show the direction of the highest level creature within a certain radius of itself, and is highlighted to the rider upon being viewed directly. This ability can be refreshed by using the ability again, and the target will change if a higher level creature has moved within range. Ability 3: Wounding Bite With a particularly powerful bite of its saber teeth, the Gorgonopsid leaves a wound upon the creature it attacked. This does not act like the bleed status, but it does give the gorgonopsid a much stronger scent to follow, allowing the rider to track the creature with much better accuracy than merely gaining the scent from afar. On top of this, since the Gorgonopsid has a much stronger scent from the wound, it allows the rider to see the stats of the wounded creature, akin to an organic and more widespread form of the HLN-A. This would be invaluable when looking to tame certain creatures or scouting for weaknesses in the mist of a battle. Bonus Ability Proposal: Sensory Support Acting as a companion to other tames, the gorgonopsid could greatly extend the range of nearby creatures with similar sensory abilities, like those of the Fjordhawk, Parasaur, Dire Wolves, Troodon, and others. Community Suggested Abilities: -Able to sniff out explosives and other hazards. -Able to sniff out explorer notes (A suggestion by the Myotragus creator. Shoutout to Myotragus!) -High Jump to aid in exploration and tracking across rough terrain -Armor Piercing or bleed due to its saber teeth -Senses and warns of creatures in ambush (Thylacoleo/Purlovia). -A stealth ability to sneak up on or sneak past creatures and tames. -Other ways of tracking: -Using the scent of eggs/tames/dermis to be able to track specific species of creatures in the wild -Using the scent of stolen items/creatures to track down their original owners -The wounding bite was a community suggestion that was so good that I had to make it one of the main requested abilities. Thank you all! If you guys have any other ideas based around the theming, please post it down below and I'll include it in this suggestion! I think it’d be a fun way to bring this forgotten creature back to ARK!
  2. While checking the Ark wiki, I noticed that shockingly, Diplocaulus is the only amphibian in the entire game! And no one even uses it! How about we give it a larger, much more useful buddy from its time, the Permian. Introducing Prionosuchus, the biggest amphibian of all time! Dossier Name: Prionosuchus polaris Time: Early Permian Diet: Carnivorous Temperament: Territorial Wild: Prionosuchus is shockingly large compared to what I expected when I first heard of “The King of Crocodiles.” After traveling north to see this beast for myself, I discovered it to not be a crocodile at all, but rather, an abnormally large amphibian, noted by its ability to breathe underwater. Prionosuchus appears to have moved north to avoid competition from the spinosaurids and crocodylomorphs in the swamps and rivers of the warm areas, and has such grown to enormous sizes. Prionosuchus can be over fifteen meters in length, with some individuals even reaching twenty meters. Noting this size as well, Prionosuchus’s diet has moved away from its piscivorous past to hunting much larger animals. Its jaw has grown thicker and its bite force has increased to similar levels to that of even Sarcosuchus and possibly, Mosasaurus. I witnessed one of the larger Prionosuchus individuals hunting a herd of mammoths, pulling a juvenile into the depths of the river. Another note I have made is when observing the predator, its snout was covered in similar electroreceptors to that of Ultramegalodon. Prionosuchus may be able to identify its prey from much farther distances and stalk them for days by traveling the rivers! Tamed: I could not believe it when I discovered a small tribe that had tamed a Prionosuchus. But, this tribe appeared to control the waterways of the north with their Prionosuchus. Their method for taming the great beast was an interesting one. The tribe would catch or spear fish in the river, and actually feed the Prionosuchus! Eventually, the large animal actually began to protect the tribe from attacks, even attacking a particularly angry Carnotaurus! Tribes have also crafted a saddle for the Prionosuchus with massive oxygen tanks on the side, allowing them to dive deep underwater with their Prionosuchus. Their electroreception has also been weaponized by tribes, using it to find other people, animals, supply crates, artifacts, and even structures! But possibly its most useful feature was that this tribe figured out how to “overload” the electroreceptors, causing the Prionosuchus to release a massive electric shockwave, stunning nearby animals and short-circuiting electronic devices! Prionosuchus’s body mucus can also be processed into a form of cementing paste, albeit much slower than the Achatina. Also, when someone is slathered in Prionosuchus mucus, a discovery was made that the mucus protects wounds from infection and absorbs heat. Along with that, leeches seem to hate Prionosuchus mucus. This may protect their eggs and young from the small parasites. The Prionosuchus is also a very precise attacker due to its thinner snout, allowing it to dig into its prey and find its favorite parts of the animal. This ability allows many tribes to receive higher quality meat than expected, and even receive rarer resources such as the pearls! However, despite its size, I have seen riders of the Prionosuchus adamantly refuse to dive into the deep sea or go south, into Spino territory. I will have to test this for myself, to see if this amphibian can take on even the great Mosasaurus or the pairs of Plesiosaurs that travel the deep, and the great sail-backed king of the rivers. Left-click: Simple bite attack. Right-click: Lunge attack similar to the Sarco, in water it can grab small dinos and grip larger dinos, holding them in place and dealing bleed damage. C : Press to send an electrical wave that detects dinos, drops, structures, artifacts, and players. Very high range. Hold C or Press X: Electrical Overload to send a shockwave that stuns all dinos and disables electronic devices. Passive Ability: Prionosuchus Mucus Prionosuchus Mucus can now be used to create cementing paste with two Mucus items. The mucus is also used for a new item, the Heat Pack. The pack will slowly drain in your inventory, but gives you higher hypo and hyperthermal insulation. Prionosuchus Mucus can also be dragged onto armor to increase their protection from the elements and increase the spoil time of items. “Consuming” Prionosuchus Mucus increases your passive regeneration effect for 10 minutes, similar to a soup.
  3. Mei Long (寐 mèi 龍 lóng) is a duck-sized Troodontid from early Cretaceous Yixian Formation in Liaoning, China. The very first fossil ever found of Mei Long was in a sleeping position, with its head under its wing and its legs folded under its body, which proves the behavioral similarity of sleeping dinosaurs to birds. In fact, this is what led to it getting its name, and it means "Sleeping Dragon" in Chinese. Scientists believe that Mei Long have been the ancestor of later troodontids, such as Sauronithoides, Zanabazar, Sinovenator, and you guessed it, Troodon. Mei Long lived in the Early Aptian stage of the Cretaceous Era, about 125.8 million years ago. At this time, the Liaoning area was dominated by numerous volcanoes in a landscape that was covered in coniferous forest. The volcanoes erupted frequently, entombing animals in ash and suffocating others with carbon monoxide, which accounts for the high level of preservation fossils. Scientists theorized that Mei Long fed on small lizards and insects on the forest floor, as well as being an omnivore. Some people also believed that Mei Long have been an egg thief, like the oviraptor. The image below is a fossil belonged to a young juvenile Mei Long, and it's measured about 53 cm (20.87 inches) long. It was once featured in the TV series "Prehistoric Park" being described as intelligent, stealthy, as well as being a pack hunter. It is possible that Mei Long can be grown bigger when it is fully adult (possibly 1 to 2 meters long), however it is classified as a Troodontid, which means it is a very small creature, as seen in the size and height comparison image below. Possible Abilities/Utilities Built-In/Passive Abilities and Attributes Shoulder Pet: this creature is a shoulder pet Sleepy Head: this creature needs to sleep during night time, player can also make Mei Long go to sleep by interacting with the radial menu, when it sleeps it will recover their health and torpor faster Stimulated: player can prevent this creature from falling asleep with Stimulants, however too much Stimulants will cause negative effects Feathery Warmth: having the creature on your shoulder will grant player resistance against the cold, as well as any slow/freeze abilities from Ice Wyverns and Managarmrs; with this passive ability, Mei Long can also help hatch small dinosaur eggs when there's an egg near it where it sleeps High Alert: provides creature tracking, danger notifications, as well as enemy player tracking Narcotic Bite: this creature's basic biting attacks will do torpor Unsuspected Defender: Mei Long will automatically use its special ability to defend you when an enemy survivor gets close Heartwarming Nuzzles (Passive): when this creature is sleeping in a sheltered area, it will emit a small healing aura to heal all friendly survivors and creatures within the area Fortitude: Mei Long will have a Fortitude stat that you can level up, by doing do it will increase your fortitude by a percentage when the creature is on your shoulder Respect Your Ancestors: all Troodons will turn neutral when you have a Mei Long on your shoulder Pack Hunter: having multiple Mei Longs in an area will grant them the Pack bonus, which will enhance their basic abilities; High Alert will gain more range, allowing you to see wild creatures and enemy players from further away; having more Mei Longs sleeping in a small area will all contribute to egg hatching, allowing the eggs to hatch faster as well as having the ability to eventually hatch bigger dinosaur eggs Skills and Activatable Abilities The True Sleeping Dragon: while on your shoulder, the creature will act as a narcotic turret when it has narcotic in its inventory. Will use torpor vomit to help you knock out creatures that you are dealing torpor to Knockout Artist: when not on your shoulder and was told to attack a wild creature, Mei Long will do a leap and latch onto the targeted creature, then do a massive bite attack that will inflict a good amount of torpor over time Heartwarming Nuzzles (Active): you can command your Mei Long to sit, and by doing so you can pet it, which will grant you a buff in health and resistance Detailed Abilities/Utilities Shoulder Pet: due to its small and nimble size, Mei Long could easily be carried on your survivor's back or shoulder, acting like a support that can provide you with many buffs and advantages that will definitely help you survive longer than others. Sleepy Head: since Mei Long gained its name by being found in a sleeping position, it should be given a passive similar to the Megalosaurus, but instead of sleeping during the day, Mei Long would become sleepy during the night. When Mei Longs sleep, they can recover their health and torpor faster. You can also make your Mei Long sit or sleep by interacting with its menu when holding the interact key (E). Stimulated: survivors can choose to keep the Mei Long awake for longer during the night by force-feeding it Stimulant, and that will give it a buff for a few minutes that will make it become "stimulated" and not sleep during the night. You can feed it more stimulants in order to increase the timer, however you cannot feed it too much because it will start to take damage, like having a heart attack due to overdose. An idea to avoid overdosing the Mei Long is to show a counter when it sits on your shoulder, an average human can only withstand about 49 cans of Monster Energy Drink, so to calculate how much Stimulant a Mei Long can take at a time, we can possibly add about 1/4 of that to what a human can take, which is about 61.25, we can then round that to a maximum of 61 stimulant that a Mei Long can take at a time before it becomes overdosed. If the player has feed the Mei Long over 61 stimulants, it will go into an overdosed state that will reduce 20% of its maximum HP that will slowly recover over time, however it will only recover up to 90% of its original HP, and reduce the maximum of 61 stimulants it can withstand to 56. This is the aftermath of caffeine overdose, which will leave a permanent negative effect. Hopefully this will also raise awareness for what will happen when people go under a caffeine overdose, since it is not only extremely unhealthy to do in real life, it can be lethal to the human body too. Feathery Warmth: if you have a Mei Long on your shoulder, it will provide you with extra warmth that will help you survive the cold climate of ARK, and due to its feathery body it will also provide you some resistance towards certain debuffs regarding the cold, such as the breath attack from the Ice Wyervns, and the freezing attack from the Managarmrs. When it's on your shoulder while sleeping at nighttime, it will curl its body around your neck, providing extra warmth and increases your resistance towards any cold debuffs. Another ability the Mei Long can have based on this is to have the ability to incubate dinosaur eggs when its sleeping on the ground and not picked up by the survivor, so you are able to hatch small dinosaur eggs in your early play through. High Alert: scientists described Mei Long as "a stealthy pack hunter with keen senses and high intelligence", so another good ability to have would be granting you the ability to see your enemies from afar while it is on your shoulder. For example, dinosaurs will have a different outline overlay on them, that will show survivors whether they are aggressive or not, so all dinosaur will have a general white outline around them until it becomes aggressive to you, which it will turn red. This passive ability will be really helpful for new and experienced players, showing you exactly what dinosaur is attacking you, allowing you to either move to a safer location before it's too late if you aren't ready for the fight, or giving you a clear view on what target to eliminate. If you are close to another enemy survivor, the Mei Long on your shoulder will emit some clicking/chirping sounds to alert you that there are enemies nearby, and it will give you directions on where the enemy player is by turning its head towards their location, which will show the player a trail of mist or particles that will lead you to the enemy player. Other players will not be able to see the trail other than you, providing you the perfect advantage that others won't have. The True Sleeping Dragon: this ability came to mind with the help of some friends since we believed the Sleeping Dragon should have a special ability, a play on its name, and on its bird-like behavior. When Mei Long is on your shoulder, it will act as a narcotic turret as long as it has narcotic in its inventory, and it will vomit narcotic towards the dinosaur you are dealing torpor to, dealing additional torpor, helping you to knock out dinosaurs faster. If you level up Mei Long's Damage stat, it will deal more torpor with the vomit turret, much like any other creature that deals more torpor the higher Damage stat is. In order to make this seemingly overpowered ability less overpowered, I think it would be more balanced if the fire rate of the torpor vomit is lower than the longneck rifle, also making the base torpor similar to a tranquilizer arrow, making this a more viable early to mid game tame, and it cannot use its vomit ability when it's sleeping. And because this ability will allow Mei Long to deal torpor to the creature you are dealing torpor to, its normal bite attacks will also have a narcotic effect that will deal additional torpor. Simply command your Mei Long to attack the creature while it's either on your shoulder or walking on ground, it will begin to use its torpor vomit turret or its normal narcotic bite attack. Knockout Artist: when you command your Mei Long to attack a creature when it's not on your shoulder, it will run towards the creature you targeted and leap on to it, latching on to it for a while and do one massive narcotic bite attack that will build up torpor over time. This ability cannot be spammed and will have a cooldown. After the Mei Long finishes the attack, it will run back towards you, which you can either command it to attack the creature again but with normal narcotic bite attacks, or pick it back up on to your shoulder. Unsuspected Defender: when you have a Mei Long following you, it will attempt to defend you when there's an enemy survivor getting too close into your comfort zone. Mei Long will use Knockout Artist to knock out the enemy survivor with the torpor that it will inflict. Heartwarming Nuzzles: when the Mei Long is sleeping in a sheltered area (when you get the home icon on your survivor's status bar), it will release a small healing aura that will heal all friendly players and creatures within the area. When you command your Mei Long to sit, you can pet it. By doing so it will provide you with a massive health boost and damage resistance for a period of time, as petting the Mei Long can improve your emotions as well as relieving stress. Kind of like petting a cat! Pack Hunter: being described as pack hunter, Mei Long will have a pack bonus when there are multiple of them within a short radius. The benefits of having a pack hunter bonus with the Mei Longs is that it can provide you with enhanced abilities based on their already existing ones. For example, the High Alert ability will be enhanced if you have a tribemate that also has a Mei Long on their shoulder, granting you both more view radius to see the creatures around you, and having the ability to track enemy players at a further distance; if you have more Mei Longs sleeping together on the floor, they can all contribute to hatching eggs, potentially having the ability to hatch bigger dinosaur eggs, and hatch them at a faster rate. Fortitude: due to its Feathery Warmth that will help survivors against the cold, it will only be appropriate if Mei Long has a Fortitude stat that you can level up, and by doing so it will also increase your Fortitude by a percentage. Respect Your Ancestors: because Mei Long is the ancestor of Troodontids, like the Troodon, wild Troodons will avoid attacking the Mei Long, acting like they are respecting their elders. If you have a Mei Long on your shoulder, the Troodons will completely ignore you and be passive towards you unless you provoke them. However if you have the Mei Long following you and not on your shoulder, the Troodons will instead ignore the Mei Long, and remain aggressive to you. Acrocanthosaurus was a bipedal predator. As the name suggests, it is best known for the high neural spines on many of its vertebrae, which most likely supported a ridge of muscle over the animal's neck, back, and hips. Acrocanthosaurus was one of the largest theropods, with the largest known specimen reaching 11–11.5 meters (36–38 ft) in length and weighing approximately 4.4–6.6 metric tons
