The Octo Friend! Octavius Socrates [Proteroctopus ribeti]
FlashGuard posted a suggestion in Creature submission archive
Proteroctopus ribeti Is from the Jurassic period. So after the last vote i have decided to make my own creature. The idea behind it is that is that i would like to create something that will be useful as well as fun! While this dino may have a few more features than most it is a well needed water dino. As the biome needs more attention and this will make people want to DIVE IN! Please leave any comments or suggestions below and please make them constructive! Size: Like most Cephalopods Females are larger than their male counterparts. The Female will be ridable and a bit larger than the Megalodon. While the male will be around a 3rd of that size. Males will be ridable but not able to grapple most sea creatures due to size. MOVES: Attack: Left click will allow you to do a normal attack using all of the tentacles. Harvest: Right click will allow you to harvest nodes. Grab Attack: By pressing C you will be able to grab and immobilize creatures underwater. Perhaps by using stamina and/or playing a short minigame to succeed. This will allow you to tame creatures underwater in a passive way. However this will be ineffective for taming larger dino's like a Tusoteuthis or a Mosasaur. While grappled you can safely dismount and tranq the dino! Dash: By pressing X you can dash in the water allowing the tentacles to slam together behind you. creating a small amount of bubbles as well as forcing you forward at a greater speed! Ink Jet: By pressing Ctrl + C you can shoot a jet of ink temporarily stunning a creature and allowing you to escape! ABILITIES: Gathering: Females only After killing and eating a crustacean (The Octavius treat of choice) you can activate its gathering bonus. This will last for 10 Minutes at which time you will need to find a new treat. The first main benefit for the Octavius is its ability to harvest underwater. While using a saddle it adds small linked chains or metal strips along the tentacles. This allows the Octavius to squeeze underwater nodes harder making them crumble and easier to gather. Granting a %20 boost to resources gathered in this way. Resourses that can be gathered this way are Oil, Metal, Stone and Obsidian. The second main ability of the Octavius is the ability to gather Pearls. Due to its many arms it allows it to take great care when gathering pearls and faster at that. This allows a 20% Boost to the amount of pearls gathered gathered. As well as gathering Chitin from underwater crustaceans. This However does not effect black pearls found naturally. Passives: Paternal Instincts The female Octavius is able to nurture its young in the water and usually dies when does so in the wild. However when domesticated the paternal side of the Octavius helps it to be a great mother. Allowing it to feed and imprint on all underwater dinos in its area. I does require more food to do this as it takes a lot of effort to keep the babies happy. While in this state the Octavius will also use its ink attack to deter and fend off predators. To activate this you will need to have the Octavius Near at least one baby and select "Nurture" option in its spin wheel. Once active the Octavius will not allow you to ride it and will be fully focused on its duties. Deep Sea Oil: The Octavius has a really handy ability. It creates "Deep Sea Oil" This oil when placed with pearls in its inventory will allow the oil to seep into the pearls. This will turn them into "Black Sea Pearls" and will allow you to use them in place of Black pearls. However you will need to create two times the normal amount of Black Sea Pearls as needed by normal black pearls. This can be done with the Male or Female Octavius. Usually this is the preferred job of the male Octavius though because if moved this will halt the production of the Deep Sea Pearls. Octavius are immune to eels and jellyfish. However this comes at a cost. If the Octavius is hit by either it will excite the nerves controlling its Chromatophores. This will cause the Octavius to become a bright blue color which for a short time will cause it to attract other sea creatures. During this time it is recommended that you flee with the ink ability. TAMING: Taming the Octavius is fairly straight forward. It is a passive tame. You will need to tame a Trilobite and find an Wild Octavius (usually on the sea floor imitating a rock) You will then have to provide the Octavius its most favorite treat! It will come out of hiding and feed! Once it has been fed enough it will tame. This process is the same for both male and female. During this time you will need to protect it from wild dinos. BREEDING: Breeding the Octavius is a bit more complicated. Underwater you will need to activate breeding. After activating the event the Octavius will cuddle and interweave their tentacles. Then after the female will take on the appearance of a stone while it nurses its younglings. However due to the size of the Octavius they do not have many babies like they would in the wild. During this time the mother will not move and will need to be fed by a person to keep its food stable. It will eat more than normal and will not gather food itself. If its food reaches zero the mother will start to turn a white color and loose health. This will be your warning to feed it fast. If you fail to do so it will die along with the babies. You can feed the mother with trough. But it will only do so at half the rate. slowing down the food loss but not stopping it. WILD: Octavius are passive in the wild and will not attack unless provoked. usually they will ink and run.-

Origin: Originating from the Greek term "ὀκτώπους", Octopi are 8-legged sea creatures who have a rich history of unique abilities which allowed them to survive for millions of years. Species: Cephalopod Time Period: Late Cambrian Diet: Carnivores Wild: Octopus are known as elite hunters. Able to completely disguise themselves, and master escape artists, being able to fit through anything that their beak can fit in. They tend to wander the sea floor in full disguise, waiting for their prey to come close enough for an opportunity. Even species of this creature in small size, have been known to fight off the likes of creatures like whales and sharks. Domesticated: With its body being 90% muscle, this creature is able to manage multiple different situations without distraction. Octopi are known to be able to recognizes faces outside of its own species. Being able to build a companionship with humans. Being one of the smartest creatures in the ocean, the Octopus is capable of protecting others, while being able to hold its own. Abilities: Primary Attack - A ranged tentacle lash that's capable of knocking back enemies. Secondary Attack - Grabs the enemy with one of its main "two" tentacles. The largest sized creature it can grab is a megalodon. C Key / Third Ability - Camouflages the rider and itself, becoming invisible in the ocean. While grabbed, Primary Attack - Constricts the enemy, taking damage constantly. Secondary Attack - Releases the grabbed enemy. This dino has a 360 maneuverability, allowing it to spin in a 360-degree direction rather than needing a turning mechanic, allowing it to use its tentacles more proficiently. This dino would also have the ability to move up and down with the Space Key and X Key. Giant Pacific octopus - Wikipedia

Common name: Keuppia Levante Period: Cretaceous Diet: Fish Temperament: Aggresive I feel lucky to have come across Keuppia Levante and have lived to tell about it. I´m not sure if it´s bigger than Tusoteuthis, but it knows how to blend in with surroundings, managing to attack us anawares. When I saw it Icouldn´t stop thinking about the legend of the Kraken. Wild: Once it grabs hold of its prey, it carries it to its powerful beak, which is capable of piercing even the best of armor. Although its habitat is the depths, some have seen it crawling along the beaches al night. It is hard to beat, as its soft body makes it absorb a lot of damage. If Keuppia Levante is losing a fight, he sprays a cloud of ink into the water around him, blinding his attacker to cover a sneaky escape. Domesticated: It seems that honey pacifies this creature, allowing access to feed it living creatures and thus gain its trust. Those who have tamed it affirm that its is a good collector of pearls, of all kinds. Thanks to his diving suit, which protects his rider, he can walk longer out of the water, albeit more slowly. It is not uncommon to hear that the kraken has been seen even in the desert. Its soft tissue allows it to absorb great damage, in addition to accesing places where other creatures are not able to enter, so the tribes prefer this mount to access small entrance caves where there is an enemy base Saddle Camouflage Moving on the beach

Ark is in a late stage in its development where we have highly efficient methods of travel, DPS, resource harvesting, etc, so I felt like there was no need to create something that already fills these niches, as it will either outperform or be outperformed by existing creatures. The idea behind this tame is to significantly enhance dinos that already have their niches and spice up otherwise mundane activities, while posing a risk anytime they're used. Wild Found deep inside underwater caves (or general deep sea areas on maps without these caves), the Pohlsepia is an intelligent albeit highly venomous mollusk. It's skittish and will swim away from approaching players, but if a player/tame stays close to it for too long, it'll bite. The venom doesn't directly harm its target; instead it consists of a stimulant that buffs the melee damage of the target while increasing the damage it takes by the same factor. Resembles a cross between its prehistoric concept and a modern blue ringed octopus, while also glowing in the dark. Domesticated When tamed, it can sit on a player's shoulder and last for a long time out of water (can be hydrated with water containers). Players can either coax it into applying its venom to their tames or extract it for external use. They also make great pets with their striking, adorable appearance and bioluminescence as they peacefully swim around their underwater pens. Abilities When prompted, the Pohlsepia will detach from your shoulder and latch onto your mounted tame like a Noglin, and inject it with one of two types of venom: a stimulant or a relaxant. The color of its rings indicate which "mode" it's currently in. The stimulant has the aforementioned affects in that it increases damage dealt, damage taken, and movement speed, while the relaxant does the exact opposite: slowing the creature and reducing the damage dealt and taken. However, the player can complete a minigame to constantly inject their mounted tame and multiply these values even further! Fail the minigame and your tame will take heavy damage over time as you maladminister the toxins. Armor piercing damage is not altered by the venom. You can also extract both types of venom to apply to unmounted tames, as well as yourself! For players, this will also affect reload speed, allowing them to shoot faster when affected by the stimulant venom (soloable Genesis alpha gauntlets?). Maybe be able to manually control it to latch onto other tames that would benefit from damage resistance/damage dealing multipliers? The idea behind these features is to create a high risk/high reward tame that speeds up PvE dino-to-dino combat, spices up land traversal, as well as playing a role in PvP tanking/DPS. One might think the damage dealt/taken multipliers will cancel each other out. However, this isn't the case as skilled players can generally avoid getting hit too often and bring fights to a conclusion with the damage boost. Also, this is an alternative to having to tame different dinos for specific roles, now you can have one dino species serving as both tanks and damage dealers, by strategically applying venom doses! Its ineffectiveness against armor piercing damage might prevent tanks from being too strong in PvP, where therizinos and mantises with clubs can counter the relaxant's effects. The increased movement speed will simplify land traversal, should players succeed the risky minigame, simultaneously providing players with something interesting to do during otherwise mundane map traversal. Taming Swim up to it and feed it an Ammonite Bile while its swimming away, before it bites you. It will bite you anyway, but its curiosity is piqued and it will follow you. While envenomed, kill as many creatures as you can and feed/pet it throughout. This method is similar to an Amargasaurus but without the tediousness of it aggro-ing onto other creatures and getting itself killed. During the process, you may kill creatures with a mount as well. In fact, while mounted, the wild Pohlsepia will automatically latch onto your mount like a Noglin and you're free to kill things without waiting for it to catch up! Of course, you still have to interact with it occasionally, at which point it will automatically detach when you dismount.
