(The art and dossier above was done by Sav!) (WILDCARD AND GARUGA…. KEEP THE PATTERN AND COLOR SCHEME PLEASE!!! THANKS - XOXO KATANA THE NAUTILUS) Introducing the Palaeoctopus! You may recognize him from Aberration, as I also submitted that version! This large (Megatherium sized) land cephalopod is found in the bog, and rarely the ocean of Genesis. A curious and crafty creature, the unique properties of its ink allow it to make special potions that aid you in all 5 of the genesis biomes, against the elements or any foe! For example, do you want to get rid of a horde of dire wolves? Throw down a Space Brew potion and make a mini black hole to trap them in one place! Or do you need to go down to the depths of the ocean but your scuba gear is broken? Simply drink an Ocean Potion and you’ll be able to dive deeper and see clearer! (And stay to the very end for some other cool submissions you should check out!!!) Ability and actions summary: (The ability concept sheet was done by DjayMasi!) Mobile Apothecary: The main feature of Palaeoctopus, it has 11 total potion options, 5 that benefit you and your allies, 5 that are for offense against enemies and 1 special brew! Respectively named the beneficial and volatile branches, each of the 5 potions on either side correspond with a genesis biome. Mimicry: Palaeoctopus are able to camouflage with their surroundings, this reduces your speed by 20% but makes you invisible to aggressive creatures and other things like turrets (For turrets this only works up to 2 foundations away and TEK ones are exempt). If you are attacked when camouflaged however, you will become vulnerable and take 10% more damage while still moving slowly. Coating: Using the same ink that is used for potions, it can coat itself to give its attacks affixes that relate to the biome specific ink. Volcano ink will make its attacks do fire damage, similar to if a fire wyvern were to attack you with its breath, for example. Moreover, these coatings add special attacks and features as well. Creature holding: With 8 strong arms and plenty of suction cups, it's no surprise that Palaeoctopus is able to grab and hold creatures similar to, say, Megalosaurus. This can be used to transport allies (and throw em) or suffocate your enemies by draining their oxygen, eventually killing them, or slamming them. Climbing: Again, 8 strong arms with suction cups make it possible for Palaeoctopus to climb steep surfaces, even being able to hang upside down. This is useful for sneaking around when camouflaged or getting up those ocean pillars. (Still not as useful as a bloodstalkers sheer maneuverability but it gets the job done) Potion making in-depth: Potion brewing is done with a unique saddle, the “brew-master” with the process being like this: 1: Let it produce ink passively, the properties of this ink change depending on what biome you are in. - Note: (Palaeoctopus must first acclimate to biomes before producing the special ink, having it mimic the surroundings and wander around will speed up the acclimation process, for reference if you were to mimic the environment 5 times, you would nearly be at 80% acclimation! A quick process. If a baby Palaeoctopus grows up in a biome however, it will automatically be able to produce ink related to that region. You can also use items like ambergris and shell fragments on it in order to acclimate instantly if on a different map or find similar biomes on other maps, a swamp acts as a replacement for bog acclimation for example) 2: Jars are used to bottle the potions, so place them in its inventory. 3: Choose to craft either a beneficial potion or a volatile one, having a different section for either. And that's it! Players or Palaeoctopus itself can throw the potions. As for potion details: Beneficial branch: (These can also be used on creatures!) - Bog brew: This potion will make it so insect swarms will no longer target you, you will also be more hidden from creatures overall, reducing their aggro towards you. - Volcano brew: This potion gives you heat resistance and also fire attack resistance from creatures such as Magmasaurs or weapons like torches. - Ocean brew: This potion increases your swim speed and reduces oxygen consumption. You are also able to see clearer underwater. - Snow brew: This potion gives you cold resistance and immunity to being stunned. - Space brew: This potion allows you to jump higher and have resistance to radiation. Volatile branch: - Brew of Continuous Defecation (bog): Throwing this potion at enemies drains their stamina, increases their torpor and makes them defecate. - Brew of Raging Inferno (volcano): Throwing this potion causes a patch of fire to form where it is thrown, any creature or player that steps into this fire is set on fire. And anything that is near the creature/player on fire will also be set on fire (including fire immune creatures such as fire Wyverns for example). - Brew of Abyssal Rage (ocean): Throwing this potion at enemies blinds them and causes them to attack anything around them, including their allies (both tamed and wild). - Brew of Eternal Frost (snow): Throwing this potion at enemies freezes them in place to stun them momentarily, if a player is hit then they will instantly be freezing to death. - Brew of Cosmic Bending (space): Throwing this potion causes a small black hole to form, dragging in anything caught within its radius for 10 seconds (which makes them unable to move or jump, stuck in the same position). Special: - Witches brew: By acclimating in all 5 biomes, this potion can be made. It gives a 5% buff to your crafting speed, EXP gain and movement speed. You may feel a bit trippy afterwards however….. (Also unlocks a bowler hat cosmetic, this cephalopod is truly breaking bad). Coatings: Coatings work similarly to the potions, your cephalopod friend must first become acclimated to the different biomes in order to use them. Once you have enough specialized ink, you can use the coatings in relation to the ink it is from. (again the acclimation can be done in the Genesis biomes or similar biomes from other maps such as swamps replacing bog acclimation or deserts replacing volcano acclimation!) Bog coating: Causes your attacks to ignore some armor and also break down armor durability faster! Can release a toxic cloud that inflicts torpor and drains stamina as well! Volcano coating: Your attacks will do fire damage over time, similar to a fire wyverns breath! This also unlocks a special attack allowing you to spew a ranged fire attack from the siphon! Ocean coating: A defensive coating, if any enemy attacks you physically they will receive electrical recoil! (which is just recoil but with fancy electricity effects). Additionally, when an enemy hits you too many times it will stun/paralyze them for 10 seconds! Snow coating: Your attacks will do ice element damage over time, like a managarmr of sorts! This also adds an ice armor around the octopus that increases health regeneration! Space coating: A unique defensive coating, you will be able to flashbang enemies to stun them for a small amount of time, this also afflicts some radiation on them. Another effect is that you and the Palaeoctopus have greater resistance to radiation. After using any of these coatings, you are locked into them for 10 minutes, 6 minutes for active usage and 4 minutes for a cooldown period. Moveset: Primary attack (LMB, RT, R2): Punch (Base 30 dmg) Secondary attack (RMB, LT, L2): Grab and hold creature (If you press the primary attack button/key it’ll start slamming the creature for base 40 dmg. If you hold RMB/LT/L2 it’ll start suffocating the creature, and if you simply let go of the button it’ll throw the creature or player.) Third attack/ability (C, R, R): Apply coating or throw potion (Holding Space,A,X will let you choose which action to do). Once the coating is applied, this button will convert into usage of the specialized attack or ability the coating has (fire spew, ice armor, etc). Climbing (Space, A, X): When near steep or vertical terrain, it will start climbing. (This consumes stamina of course) Taunt (Left ctrl, LB, LT): This is just aesthetic, similar to an aesthetic roar. (Ragebaiting) Taming method and behavior: Palaeoctopus are naturally curious creatures, and in the wild they are able to camouflage. So, if you are in the bog and suddenly grabbed, don’t be alarmed, it's simply curious and will let go (eventually). If you don’t have time for that however, hitting it with a torch will make it skedaddle. However, if you have narcotics, stimulants, medical brews or bug repellent on hand, it’ll initiate the taming process. Simply, you just have to place them in your hotbar and show them off, more complex recipes will give higher taming. You can also show it dishes like broth of enlightenment, which effectively act as a kibble (with enlightenment giving the most taming). Just simply keep showing your drug collection and it'll be impressed enough to be your new cephalopod friend! End (And credits/shoutouts/fanart): And that’s all, I hope the concepts and ideas I have outlined have interested you enough to toss a vote! Thanks for reading the submission! Big thanks to ZCI5250, Sav, DjayMasi, RRG, Ashgcy, SappyDaisy, and Hatcheri for providing either feedback or art for this fella! I couldn’t have made this concept as good without their help!
